It's taken awhile!
As you know, I took a voluntarily 6 months away from this blog!
When I returned, I began where I'd left off, with the meets that came after the Prefontaine meet in August!
It took a bit of work, but I finished reporting on the 2021 OUTdoor season, even doing my normal Athletes of the Year awards!
Invigorated, I wanted to do the same for the now past INdoor season!
But first I had to gather the Records and Marks I wanted to report!
And now, that's finished--all 95 pages of notes--and I'm raring to share it all with you!
So herein begins my recount of the ENTIRE 2021-2022 INdoor season!!
I'll present it in as chronological a fashion as is possible, writing it (the old stuff) as if it were happening today!
Thus, when I report a Record being broken in December or January---that was broken AGAIN later in the season--I will be telling you about each breaking of a record as they happen!!
Enjoy, and thanks for your patience!!
Let's begin!
As has become the norm in recent years, Boston University held some distance races in early December that rocketed the season off its launchpad with pizzazz!!
Ollie Hoare broke open a fast paced 5000 race, ending his 25 laps in 13:09.96, handing himself the Australia National Record!
Nice way to open up!
But a fairly substantial crowd followed, including his New Zealand neighbor, Gordie Beamish!
His 13:12.53 was a New Zealand NR!!
Wesley Kiptoo took 3rd in 13:14.74, making him 3rd A-T Collegiate, and making him the Junior Class Record holder!!
In 4th came Abdi Nur, whose 13:22.24 made him 11th A-T Collegiate, and 17th A-T US!!
Nico Young nabbed the Frosh Class Record with his 13:22.59!
He wound up ranked 12th A-T Collegiate, and 18th A-T US!!
Sam Gilman was 7th, his 13:25.17 making him 15th A-T Collegiate, and 22nd A-T US!!
Drew Bailey took 9th, his 13:26.19 making him 17th A-T Collegiate, and 23rd A-T US!!
In 10th was Andrew Jordan, his 13:28.10 making him 18th A-T Collegiate!!
The Women ran quite well also!
Annie Rodenfels led the way with a big PR of 15:08.80!
This makes her 12th A-T US!
Whittni Orton took 2nd in 15:09.47!
This makes her 13th A-T US!
A few seconds back came Courtney Wayment's 15:15.46!
This made her 7th A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!
In 4th was Kelsey Chmiel, her 15:27.36 making her 22nd A-T Collegiate!
Chmiel's North Carolina State Frosh teammate, Katelyn Tuohy, took 4th in the 3000 race, her time of 8:54.18 making her 12th A-T Collegiate!
In 1st was Carli McCabe's 8:52.52!
It's the Frosh Class Record, and rates her 7th A-T Collegiate!
In 5th was Samantha Bush's 8:54.37, which made her 14th A-T Collegiate!
Believe it or not, the first good marks of the season came as early as November 6th!!
Michael Pinckney opened his season with a Weight Throw of 79-7!!
This made him 14th A-T High School!
His next meet gave him a whirl of 79-9.25, but that left him in 14th place on my list!
I love the INdoor season for many reasons, one of them being its frequent inclusion of odd distances, like the 300 and 600 meter races!
Cameron Rose's 32.90 over the 300 at Clemson made him 10th A-T Collegiate!
In Arkansas, Leila Owens ran a quick 300 also, her 37.06 making her 9th A-T Collegiate!
But the biggie came thanks to Brandon Miller!
His 1:15.49 over 3 laps gave him the Age 19 Record!
He got on 3 lists--6th A-T Collegiate, 9th A-T US, and 15th A-T World!!
The fast 300's continued in Kentucky, where home girl Abby Steiner astonished viewers with a fierce final 100, ending in a Collegiate Record 35.80!!
She broke the venerable record of Merlene Ottey, a time run 41 years earlier!!!
Steiner's mark was also a Junior Class Record!
It made her 6th A-T World, and 3rd A-T US!!
Not bad for a rust buster!
In the same meet, Dwight St Hilaire's 32.70 made him 4th A-T Collegiate!
In 2nd came Lance Lang's 33.04, making him 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Close behind came Kennedy Lightner's 33.07, which made him 18th A-T Collegiate!
Zach McWhorter Pole Vaulted 19-1 in Utah, making him 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
A pair of early HS marks dribbled in--
Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan had a WT of 79-1.50!
Rachel Homoly PV'ed 14-0, making her 10th A-T HS, tid with 2 others!
But the OUTdoor season has no end, so we have a few OUTdoor marks from this period to report!
The Men's winner of the USATF Cross Country champs was Shadrack Kipchirchir, his time being 30:32!
Close behind was Dillon Maggard, time of 30:34!
Matching that time in 3rd was Sam Chelanga.
Len Korir ran 30:37 in 4th!
The Women's winner was Alicia Monson's 34:01.
However, the course was longer than intended (??), it being listed as 10100 meters!
But times in XC don't mean a lot, as courses vary in several ways!
Weini Kelati took 2nd in 34:18!
Then came a pair of Emily's--Infeld in 34:36, and Durgin in 34:50!
Also running 34:50 was 5th placer Stephanie Bruce, who had announced that she'd be retiring after the season!
A 10000 track race in Japan on December 11th found Seina Frawa (sp??) running 30:45.21.
I think she's just 19 years old!
On the roads in Madrid, Degatu Azimeraw timed 30:26 in winning a 10K!
But Happy New Year's Eve, friends!!
On December 31st, Berihu Arigawi broke the road World Record with his time of 12:49!!
Not to be outclassed, Eijgayehi Taye also ran a WR time--14:19!!
Break out the champagne!!
Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan kept busy!
He upped his WT best to 81-1, moving him up to 12th A-T HS!
Kaila Jackson sprinted a 60 in 7.26, making her 9th A-T HS, tied with 5 others!
Gavin Sherry ran a Mile in 4:06.72, making him 16th A-T HS!
Closing out the early HS marks, do you recall the "Weeks" twins, Tori and Lexi??
In college, they married (just a short time apart!), becoming Tori Hoggard and Lexi Jacobus!
After a brilliant career (Lexi going to the Rio Olympics!!), they both decided on an early retirement, with both becoming pharmacists!!
Well, we seem to be having a repeat performance in the world of twin sisters!!
Amanda and Hana Moll, out of my state of Washington, have arrived!
In an early meet, Amanda soared over 14-7.25, making her 2nd A-T HS!
While Hana ended with "only" 13-7.25 in 2nd, she'd jumped 14-0 in another meet!
Add the Moll twins heights, and you get a total of 28-7.25!!
The Weeks girls INdoor marks of 14-4 for Lexi, and 14-3.25 for Tori (while in HS) adds to the same 28-7.25!!
Since the Moll's are still 11th Graders, I think they'll surpass Tori and Lexi to become the best ever HS twin girl Vaulters!!
Stay tuned!
The Collegiates and others weren't too quiet!
In fact, Jacory Patterson sped a Collegiate Record over 300 meters, his 31.99 giving him the Junior Class Record as well!
His rankings on my 3 lists are 1st A-T Collegiate, 6th A-T US, and 7th A-T World!!
Almost a full second back was Ryan Willie, his 32.91 making him 11th A-T Collegiate!
I'll close this initial report with some 5 Star marks from a Clemson meet!
Cameron Jones ran the 600 in 1:15.27!!
This makes him 7th A-T US, and 11th A-T World!
Jonathon Jones (no relation!) was 2nd in 1:15.61, giving him the National Record of Barbados!
This makes him 8th A-T Collegiate, and 18th A-T World!!
Sam Austin ran 1:15.96 in 3rd, making him 13th A-T Collegiate, and 17th A-T US!
Matt Boling--who is spoken of with the highest regards for his potential on the T&FN Message Board--LJ'ed 27-0.75!
This makes him 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Talitha Diggs (daughter of Joetta Clark-Diggs!), led the way in a 300, her 36.37 making her 4th A-T Collegiate, 12th A-T US, and 18th A-T World!
Ending 2nd was Rhasident (sp??) Adeleke, her 36.87 making her 10th A-T Collegiate!
Stacey Ann Williams's 36.95 makes her 12th A-T Collegiate, while the 37.22 by Kennedy Simon makes her 20th A-T Collegiate!!
Sarah Hendricks ran a 600 in 1:28.49, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!
Veteran Pro Kendra (Keni) Harrison opened 2022 with a 60H time of 7.81.
But a Collegiate stayed close, Grace Stark finishing 2nd in 7.86!
This makes her 3rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
She's also 22nd A-T US, tied with 2 others!
A Woman with the last name of Salmon ran 7.91 in 3rd, making her 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!!
Oh heck, let's continue for a bit, shall we?!
In South Carolina, Alina McDonald cleared the PV height of 15-0!
In Alabama, Steven Gardiner's 300 time of 32.26 was generous, giving him Bahamas National Record, as well as the Age 26 Record!!
It also makes him 8th A-T World!
Not sure about this, but I believe the 36.63 run by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn is the NR of Puerto Rico!!
Bobby Colontonio scored a Weight Throw of 79-2.75!
This made him 6th A-T Collegiate, 15th A-T US, and 19th A-T World!
In Chicago, Tyler Johnson sped a 300 in 32.55!
This makes him 3rd A-T Collegiate, 12th A-T US, and 22nd A-T World!
Adelaide Aquilla had a Shot Put mark of 62-7.25!
This makes her 5th A-T Collegiate, and 13th A-T US!!
The Pole Vault Summit in Reno produced some good marks--
KC Lightfoot cleared 19-4.75 for the win!
In 2nd and 3rd were Chris Nilsen and Jacob Wooten, both with heights of 19-0.75!
Katie Nageotte cleared 15-1 to beat the 14-9 by Olivia Gruver!
Now I'll close this post for real with a couple of speedy 60's--one legal, and one not so much!!
The good one was the 6.48 by Micah Williams, run in the new arena in Spokane!
It's the Frosh Class Record, and ranks him 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
It also makes him 6th A-T US, tied with half a dozen others!!
And it SHOULD be leading the seasonal list, BUT....!!
Terrence Jones was credited with a time of 6.45 in a Texas meet!
However, several observers said he got a "flying" start, or at least a questionable one!!
And these are experienced observers, so I'm prone to accept their opinions!
Thus, while some places include his mark as valid, I don't!
, so won't put it on my lists!!
See you soon, with more from the recently ended INdoor season!!
