High Schoolers Rip It Up

As promised in my previous post, I have a HUGE mark to reveal to you!
It is, of course, the World Record by MONDO!!
Yet another in a long line, Mondo Duplantis broke his own WR, National Record of Sweden, and Age 22 Record when he cleared the bar set at 20-3.75!
Fans--and Mondo himself--had been counting the hours before he'd top 6.19!!
He has done it!!

Some other good marks before I get around to my title subject---
Ivana Vuleta LJ'ed 22-7!
Nick Ponzio got the National Record of Italy with his SP of 70-10.75!
That meet was INdoors--but in an OUTdoor meet in Portugal, Ponzio lost to Zane Weir, 72-1.75 to Ponzio's 71-7.50!!
Also in Portugal, Auriol Dongmo hit 64-6.75!
In New Zealand, Olivia McTaggart PV'ed 15-3!

Joshua Cheptegei won a 10K Road race in 26:49!
Ruth Chepngetich won the Nagoya Marathon in 2:17:18!
Lonah Salpeter's 2:18:45 took second!!

All well and good, but what are we really here for?
HIGH SCHOOL, that's what!
And what a tour de force the THREE so called "championship" meets were!
Hint: This blog still recognizes the New Balance INdoor Nationals as THE INdoor HS Championship meet!
Anything else is just imitation and fantasy dreams!
YET, those other 2 meets did produce some good marks!
This post will mingle the 3 in a startling record-breaking stew!
Enjoy!

The Armory (NBIN) saw Newbury Park (CA) utterly DESTROY the HSR for the 4 X Mile Relay!
Their 16:29.31 averaged 4:07.23 per mile--but the really scary thing is--they can run much faster!!
The old mark was beaten by about 32 seconds!!
It was also a Meet Record!
Colin Sahlman anchored in 4:03.74 (for a full Mile!).

The Men's NB Mile was won by Gary Martin, time of 4:02.34!
It's the NB Meet Record, and ranks 10th A-T HS!
His 3:46.23 at 1500 is also the MR, and ranks 7th A-T HS!
Zane Begin's 4:02.64 was 2nd, and ranks him 11th A-T HS!
His 1500 of 3:46.37 ranks 8th A-T HS!
James Donahue and Gavin Sherry followed in 4:02.66 and 4:02.69, respectively!
They rank 12th and 13th A-T HS!!
Their 1500 times of 3:46.60 and 3:46.74 rank 11th and 12th A-T HS!!
The deep finish continued with Marco Langan's 4:04.60!
He ranks 16th A-T HS!
CJ Singleton ran 4:04.89 to rank 17th A-T HS!
But Singleton was ahead at 1500, his 3:47.97 ranking him 13th A-T HS!
Langan's 1500 was 3:48.67, and ranks him 15th A-T HS!
Connor Burro's Mile time was 4:04.91, ranking him 18th A-T HS, while his 3:48.15 at 1500 ranks him 14th A-T HS!!
Whew!!

The Women's NB Mile was just as productive!
Juliet Whittaker won in 4:37.23, while passing 1500 in 4:18.31!
Both times rate her 4th A-T HS!
In 2nd was the amazing Frosh, Sadie Englehardt!
Her time of 4:37.40 smashed the old Frosh Class Record by 2.6 seconds!
That record was held by the then Mary Decker, later Slaney!
Her 4:40.1 dated from 1973, 49 years ago!!
It ranks her 5th A-T HS, while her 4:18.97 at 1500 ranks her 6th A-T HS!
Riley Stewart took 3rd in 4:40.93, ranking her 16th A-T HS!
Her 1500 of 4:22.58 rates her 14th A-T HS!
Ellie Shea has a better time, but her Mile & 1500 times were 4:41.00 and 4:22.92.
In 5th came Mia Cochran's 4:42.49!
It ranks her 16th A-T HS!
Karrie Baloga's 4:24.46 at the 1500 point ranks her 22nd A-T HS!
Her Mile time doesn't make my list!!

The Women's 4 X Mile Relay went through a double dip into the Record Book!
At the Ocean Breeze meet (Nike), Saratoga Springs broke the HSR with their 19:49.10!
Great time, right?
Well, the very next day at the Armory, Flower Mound (TX) cut another 11-plus seconds off the HSR, their 19:37.78 also being a Meet Record!
Natalie Cook anchored their team with a full Mile of 4:43.72!
Cuthbertson of North Carolina ran a solid 20:01.48, but ended about 24 seconds behind!!

That anchor by Cook wasn't her only time of the meet!
She began with an astounding Two Mile of 9:44.44!
Only Mary Cain's 9:38.68 HSR is faster INdoors!
Cook gets the NBIN Meet Record, the Senior Class Record, and ranks, as noted, 2nd A-T HS!
Her time at 3000--9:08.22--rates her 4th A-T HS!
She wasn't that far ahead of phenom Ellie Shea!
Shea's 9:52.35 is the Soph Class Record, and rates her 6th A-T HS!
She passed 3000 in 9:13.31!
Angelina Perez was 3rd in 9:56.96!
That ranks her 10th A-T HS, while her 3000 time of 9:15.25 also rates her 10th A-T HS!!

Shea blasted 25 laps of the Armory track in 15:49.47, 2nd only behind Katelyn Tuohy's HSR!!
Far back in 2nd, Jenna Mulhern ran 16:31.29, which ranks 14th A-T HS!
Mulhern (and Angelina Perez) also ran the Two Mile at the Ocean Breeze meet!
Mulhern won in 10:03.86, ranking her 16th A-T HS!
Perez's time in 2nd was 10:07.43!

Pioneer of Michigan won the 4 X 800 Relay in the HSR time of 8:51.93!
They also nabbed the NB Meet Record!
Union Catholic (NJ) was 2nd in 8:53.69!
The NB DMR was won by Pioneer also, their 11:32.68 getting them the High School Record and the NBIN Meet Record!
The Men's DMR went to Ridge of New Jersey in the HSR time of 9:53.40!!
Union Catholic was 2nd in a very good 9:55.12!

Pardon my emphasis on the distances, but they were quite good, collectively and individually!!
( I will get to the other events soon!!)
The Men's Two Mile at the Armory was won by Gavin Sherry's 8:48.59!
This ranks him 11th A-T HS!
He passed 3000 meters in 8:15.93!
Brother Callum Sherry took 2nd in 8:50.60!
This ranks him 18th A-T HS!
He passed 3000 in 8:18.38!
James Donahue's 8:17.61 was ahead of Callum at 3K, but he finished behind him in 8:51.87.
That ranks him 21st A-T HS!
Aiden Puffer was 4th in 8:52.33!

In the Men's 5000, there was no real standout time, but a trio made my HS list!
Ethan Coleman won it in 14:31.03, ranking him 8th A-T HS!
Second was Zack Munson's 14:35.39, which rates him 9th A-T HS!
First name is missing, but a Mr Burgess was 3rd in 14:41.49, ranking him 19th A-T HS!
Krishna Therunavukharasu (Wow!) was 4th, his 14:42.83 ranking him 23rd A-T HS!!
And Zariel Macchia ran the Two Mile at the Ocean Breeze in 10:17.09!
Not bad?
Quite good, actually, as it nabs her the Frosh Class Record!!

Running events are featured at the NBIN!
But there were a few solid field event marks among the 3 venues!

Not bad--especially since it's the Frosh Class Record!!

This makes her 9th A-T HS!

His WT of 81-11.50 took the NB meet!
