Historic Times at Valentine

The title refers to the Valentine Invitational in Boston!
The "historic times"??
Let's just say that when the "B" 5000 race produces times we expect from the "A" race, and makes a mass invasion of the A-T list, then we have to think--What will the main race give us??

Woody Kincaid returned to form, winning the "B" race in 13:05.56!
This puts him 4th A-T US, and 16th A-T World!!
Ageless Lopez Lomong took 2nd with 13:07.40!
A bit back in 4th was Sean McGorty's 13:09.21.
This makes him 11th A-T US!
Adriaan Wildschutt came 5th in 13:09.36!
That's the Junior Class Record, and makes him 2nd on the A-T Collegiate list!

Steepler Evan Jager ran 13:13.23, making him 16th A-T US!
Dylan Jacobs was close behind, his 13:14.04 making him 4th A-T Collegiate, and 18th A-T US!
Willy Fink (13:16.97) and Brian Barraza (13:17.11) were 8th and 9th, respectively!
Fink is now 20th A-T US, while Barraza is 21st A-T US!!
(We're not done yet!!)
Bernard Keter's 13:21.28 makes him 24th A-T US!
A Muhammed ran 13:26.40, which makes him 20th A-T Collegiate!
And Matthew Carmody ran 13:27.34, making him 21st A-T Collegiate!

Now let's look at the "fast" race results!!

Grant Fisher cut about 9 seconds from his PR, his 12:53.73 slashing over 7 seconds from Galen Rupp's old American Record!!
He did it with a last 1600 of just under 4 minutes!!
He is also 5th A-T World!
And he gets the Age 24 Record!!
Canada's Mo Ahmed ran 12:56.87--over 3 seconds behind--but breaks his own National Record, plus getting the Age 31 Record!
He is 7th A-T World!
Marc Scott finished right behind, his 12:57.08 gaining him the Age 28 Record, and making the Brit 8th A-T World!
BTW, he also breaks his own British NR!!

Emmanuel Bor ran 13:00.48 (also faster than Rupp!!) in 4th.!
He gets the Age 33 Record!
And he's now 2nd A-T US, and 10th A-T World!
Sam Atkin's 13:03.64 makes him 13th A-T World!
Jonas Raess (sp??) was 6th, his 13:07.95 making him 24th A-T World!
Conner Mantz ended in 13:10.24, making him 11th A-T US!
Hilary Bor's 13:10.98 was 9th, and makes him 12th A-T US!
Dillon Maggard ran 13:13.62, making him 15th A-T US!

Guess who is now OFF the US list??
Yep, the child abuser and drug dispatcher himself--Alberto Salazar!
His 13:22.6 from 1981 is GONE!!
Good riddance!!

Yared Nuguse also got in on the record breaking action!
He gets the Collegiate Record, the Senior Class Record, and 7th A-T US with his 3000 winning time of 7:38.13!!
Finishing off the Men's portion, Neil Gourley's 3:35.32 gets him the World Leader in the 1500!!

But don't think the fast times and records were all from the Men!!
No way!!

A High School girl WON the 800 against Professionals and Collegiates!!
Roisin Willis's 2:00.06 slashed about 1.7 seconds off Sammy Watson's HSR!!
She also gets the Senior Class Record, and is now 17th A-T US!!
But she wasn't the only HS kid in the race!
Sophia Gorriaran ended in 4th, but her 2:00.58 nabs her the Junior Class Record, and the Age 17 Record!
She is 2nd A-T HS, and 24th A-T US!!

Lucia Stafford (Gabby's sister) took the Mile in 4:24.42!
Back in 6th was Emily Mackay, her 4:30.94 making her 19th A-T Collegiate!!
In 8th was Julia Heymach, her 4:31.35 making her 24th A-T Collegiate!!
Lauren Ryan ended 2nd in the 3000, but her 8:47.88 got her the Junior Class Record, and makes her 4th A-T Collegiate!!

Then we have the 5000!!
What a race!!
Gabby DeBues Stafford had the lead, when Elise Cranny sprinted past her with less than 200 to go!
But Stafford had something left, and she retook the lead, winning in 14:31.38!!
This breaks her own National Record of Canada by a LOT, and makes her 5th A-T World!
Cranny didn't lose much ground, and her 14:33.17 shatters Shalane Flanagan's 13 year old AR by about 14 seconds!!
She now ranks 6th A-T World!!

Courtney Frerichs was far behind in 3rd, but her 14:48.75 makes her 4th A-T US, and 13th A-T World!
Millie Paladino's 15:02.63 gave her 4th place, and makes her 9th A-T US!
Elly Henes was right behind, her 15:03.27 making her 10th A-T US!!
WHEW!!!!

The Razorback Invitational was also a solid meet!
Trey Cunningham improved to 7.42 over the 60H!
He gets the Senior Class Record!
And he makes a trio of lists--3rd A-T Collegiate, 12th A-T US, and 20th A-T World, tied with 2 others!!
Favour Ashe won the 60 flat in 6.52, making him 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with a measly 7 others!!

Florida's 4 X 400 team won in 3:02.09, but it was the 2nd & 3rd placers which rose on the A-T list!
Iowa's 3:02.40 makes them A-T School number 4!!
Arkansas's 3:03.18 makes them 6th A-T School!

Sondre Guttormsen PV'ed 19-1, making him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Marybeth Sant-Price sprinted her 60 heat in 7.06!
She improved to 7.04 in the final, making her 10th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Alia Armstrong took the 60H in 7.81, giving her the Soph Class Record!
This makes her 2nd A-T Collegiate, and 8th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Grace Stark ran 7.86 in a heat!

Shafiqua Maloney took the 800 in 2:01.74.
Tara Davis won the Long Jump with 22-5.25!
Jasmine Moore took the TJ with 46-6.75!

An announced attempt on the American Record in the Mile by Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker was fast, but fell short of their goal!
The Chicago race went to Teare's 3:50.17.
That makes him 3rd A-T US, and 7th A-T World!
Hocker was close, his 3:50.35 giving him the Age 20 Record!
It also makes him 4th A-T US, and 8th A-T World!
A surprising Morgan Beadlescomb was 3rd in 3:52.03!
He is 4th A-T Collegiate, 11th A-T US, and 21st A-T World!

There were other events at this Windy City Invite!
In a 3000, Ben Veatch's 2nd place time of 7:45.36 makes him 14th A-T Collegiate!
A 600 produced some fast times for the Women!
Aurora Rynda won it in 1:27.05, making her 3rd A-T Collegiate!
Shannon Melsberger was 2nd in 1:28.19, which ranks her 17th A-T Collegiate!
And Ella Clayton's 1:28.61 makes her 24th A-T Collegiate!

Alina McDonald PV'ed 15-1, making her 19th A-T US, tied with 5 others!!
Maggie Ewen's 62-5.75 won the SP!
Joe Ellis took the Weight Throw with 78-11.75!
Natosha Rogers took the 5000 in 15:20.42!

In a meet somewhere in the world (!!), Konrad Bulowiecki got the World Leader with his 70-1.50 in the SP!
Auriol Dongmo took the Women's SP with 64-4.
Ivana Vuleta (the former Spanovic!) took the LJ with 22-5.75!
A VERY close Pentathlon battle took place between Adrianna Sulek and Holly Mills!
Sulek's 4598 was ONE point ahead of Mills's 4597!!
Wow!

In Iceland, Chase Ealey's 63-0.25 SP makes her 9th A-T US!
A Russian meet saw Anzhelika Sidorova win the Pole Vault by clearing 15-9!
Paulina Knoroz was 2nd with 15-3!
Mondo Duplantis (Who else?!) broke his own Age 22 Record with his height of 19-9.75!!
Chris Nilsen and KC Lightfoot both cleared 19-5, with Nilsen getting the nod for 2nd!
Emmanuel Karalis topped 19-0.75, as did JP Lillefosse, but it was the latter who nabbed the National Record of Norway!

In Poland, Ewe Swoboda began with a heat time of 7.04!
Then, in the final, she zipped a 7.00, which makes her 10th A-T World, tied with 4 others!!
In France, Abel Kipsang won the 1500 in 3:36.23!
The 3000 went to Sam Tefera's 7:37.45!
That just beat the 7:37.86 by Daniel Simiyu!
Chris Nilsen had another good Vault--19.4.75!
Femke Bol doubled with her 400 of 50.72, and a 200 in 23.37, her PR!

I'll close with some marks from the American Track League meet!
It's only in its 2nd year, so Meet Records were fairly easy to come by!

Kahmari Montgomery's 32.42 over 300 meters got one of them!
It also makes him 10th A-T US, and 17th A-T World!
Shane Streich did him one better, his 1000 of 2:16.16 not only nabbing him the MR, but the American Record also!!
He gets the Age 25 Record, and it makes him 7th A-T World!!
Abraham Alvarado was 2nd, his 2:17.43 making him 5th A-T US!!

Rory Linkletter's 3000 in 7:49.13 was yet another Meet Record!
Emma Hurley's 9:08.95 in the Women's race also got her an MR!
Brittany Anderson won the 60H in the Meet Record time of 7.82!
Kiara Parker "only" tied the Meet Record with her 7.10 in the flat 60!
She is 23rd A-T US, tied with 3 others!

Josh Awotunde's SP of 70-7.75 won, but no MR!
Same with Jasmine Camacho-Quinn's 200 in 22.54!
Ditto with Sandi Morris's PV of 15-5.50!
And last but not least, Vashti Cunningham won the HJ with 6-6, but again, no Meet Record!
However, Jelena Rowe's 2nd place mark of 6-4.75 gets her 14th A-T US, tied with 4 others!!

One last thing--
I want to make a statement here, by making note of some marks run on Oversize Tracks--in Seattle and Nashville!
I wish to again emphasize the uselessness of running such fast times when they DON'T COUNT for anything but bragging rights!!
I won't even give exact times, since they're totally meaningless!
Abdi Nur ran the 3000 in 7:40 in Seattle, followed by the 7:42 of Eduardo Herrera.
Ky Robinson took the 5000 in 13:21, followed by the 13:24's of Brian Fay and Cole Sprout!
Carrie Verdon ran 5000 in 15:33, with Emily Covert ending in 15:35!
In Nashville, Mario Romo ran an illegal Mile in 3:53!
Who cares??!!

See you soon with more from the INdoor season!!
