PV & 10000 Charge Relays Weekend

Jenn Suhr topped the Texas Relays Pole Vault, shattering her own Age 37 Record by 7.75 inches!!
But that was NOT the big news on the PV front!!

No, that honor belongs to new Washington Husky Olivia Gruver!
In a meet mostly known for its distance results---and that side of the Stanford Invitational did not disappoint!!---we now have a new Record holder in the Women's Collegiate PV!!
Gruver--a transfer from Kentucky for her Senior year--cleared 15-1.50 on 2nd attempt!
She then cleared the Record breaker of 15-6.25, also on 2nd try!

She'd been a highly rated vaulter for awhile now, but to "rust-bust" a Collegiate Record is unprecedented!!
She also gets the Meet Record and the Senior Class Record!
She is now 5th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
But she misses the World list by a mere 0.75 inches!!

The previous holder of the Record--Lexi Jacobus--didn't do so well!
The former Weeks twins competed at Texas, but gave Suhr no competition!
Jenn--in addition to the Age 37 Record--breaks her own Texas Relays Meet Record!
But it was Tori Hoggard who took the Silver, clearing a decent 14-9!
Jacobus couldn't even top 14 feet!!

As for that 10000, Emily Sisson and Molly Huddle had a wing-ding battle---until the final lap or so!!
They hit the halfway point in an average time around 15:40.
Not a jog, but nothing that would indicate what they would do for the final 5000!!
As Huddle died on that last lap, Sisson charged ahead, breaking the tape in 30:49.57, the fastest ever time run anywhere in the World prior to April!!

Sisson gets the Stanford Invite Meet Record, and moves from 15th A-T US to 3rd!!
Only Huddle and Shalane Flanagan are ahead of her!!

Huddle ended in 30:58.46!!
Behind her--by over a minute--came an army of Collegiates surprisingly (for this early in the season!) greatly revising the A-T Collegiate list!!

Allie Ostrander's 32:06.71 is 10th A-T Collegiate!!
In 4th came Syracuse's Paige Stoner, whose 32:07.46 ranks her 12th A-T Collegiate!
The battle of the Kurgat's was won by Caroline--out of University of Alaska-Anchorage!
Her time of 32:08.09 rates her 13th A-T Collegiate!
Ednah finished in 7th--separated from her namesake by a Japanese runner!--timed in 32:14.27, which makes her 20th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!!

Cut OFF this list was the final Woman whose time was run in the 20th Century--Christine McMiken's 32:17.1 from 1986!!

But Sisson was the class of the field, and her 5000 splits of 15:40 and 15:09 are simply incredible, and show much promise for much faster times!!

There were other good marks from this weekend, but none that really stand out from the others!
But if I had to  choose one, I'd give my vote to Anderson Peters, who PR'ed in the Javelin Throw by more than 10 feet!
His 282-4 at the Florida  Relays gave him the Grenada National Record, and the Senior Class Record!
He moves from 7th A-T Collegiate to 3rd!!

I'll list the remaining marks by event group!!

Sprints & Hurdles
Brianna Williams sped the 200 in 23.29, wind of 1.3.
Also in FL, Tamara Davis ran the 100 heats in 11.32, then improved to 11.27 in the final!
Sharrika Barnett got the World Leader in the 400, time of 50.96!

Maybe the most surprising result from this grouping came in the Women's 400H!
Tia-Adana Belle--a 22 year old from Barbados--ran the World-Leading time of 54.18!
She broke the FL Meet Record by a whopping 0.70 seconds!
But even more incredible was that her previous best was just 55.52--so her improvement there was 1,34 seconds!!
All of a sudden, the World has a new star for the one lap Hurdles!!

Distances
In addition to that Stanford 10K, other Distance marks of note--
Jessica Hull took the Stanford 5000 in 15:34.93!!
Note that Sisson's SECOND 5K was 15:09!!
The Stanford Men's 10K was dominated by BYU athletes!
Winning was Connor Mantz, time of 28:18.16.
In 2nd came teammate Clayton Young's 28:18.50!

The World XC Championships took place on a REAL Cross Country course in Denmark!!
By "real", I mean it wasn't run over a flat or rolling hills golf course,!!
The times indicate the nature of the course terrain!!

Geoff Kamworor just can't win this event!
In his 3rd try, he came in third!!
The race was taken by Joshua Cheptegei, time of 31:40!
Jacob Kiplimo took Silver in 31:44.
Kamworor's time was 31:55!
Not even close!

The Women's race belonged to Helen Obiri!
The Kanyan Policewoman took charge early, and never let anyone pass her!
Her time was a ridiculous 36:14!
(No wonder I don't really care for XC--times are entirely meaningless!!)
Diro Dida's time of 36:16 does not mean it was a competitive race!
It belonged entirely to Obiri!
In 3rd came Letesenbet Gidey's 36:21.
The first American was the Vet Stephanie Bruce, who ran 39:09 in 53rd place!!

The U20 Women's race went to Beatrice Chebet's 20:59!
The Men's  U20 race had Jakob Ingebrigtsen in it!
But he was a non-factor, finishing just 12th in 24:37!
The race was won by Mihasa Mengeha (sp?) in 23:52!

Most of the best marks came in the field events!
So I'll divide those up into sub-groups!!

Horizontal Jumps
Brooke Stratton of Australia LJ'ed 22-1.50!
A HS Frosh--Carlyn Harris--LJ'ed 20-2.50!
I list this because the Frosh Class Record is 21-0, giving her a shot at it later in the season!!
Thea LaFond TJ'ed 47-2.50 at the Florida Meet!
She gets that Meet Record!!
But the most-talked about LJ was done by HS sprint leader Matthew Boling!
He now is a 26-3.50 LJ'er also!!
This makes him 7th A-T HS!!

Vertical Jumps
HS'er Shelby Tyler HJ'ed 6-0.50!
Gennifer Hirata became the latest 14 foot Pole Vaulter--and she beat the new INdoor HSR holder in getting that mark!
Hirata's 14-0 jump makes her 7th A-T HS, tied with 7 others!
Chloe Cunliffe cleared just 13-6 in 3rd place!
At the Raleigh Relays, Morgan Smalls missed the A-T HS list by one half inch, clearing 6-0.75!!
Vashti Cunningham cleared 6-4.25 at the Stanford meet!
And Chris Nilsen topped 19-0.25 in the TX meet!

Shot Put
Turner Washington, competing unattached, threw the ball 68-3.25!
In New Zealand, Konrad Bukowiecki beat Home favorite Tom Walsh--69-11/50 to 68-4.50!
Chase Ealey continues her rise in the Women's US Shot Put ranks!
Also in New Zealand, she threw  the ball 62-2.25, making her 16th A-T US!!
Payton Otterdahl opened his OUTdoor season in pretty good fashion!
His 69-8.25 moves him up one spot on the A-T Collegiate list, from 19th to 18th!

Discus Throw
Shamier Love tossed the disc 201-11, making her 17th A-T Collegiate!
Brian Williams won the FL Discus Throw with his 207-10!
But significant in 2nd was SP stud Payton Otterdahl, adding a 201-4 here to his SP mark!
See above!

Javelin Throw
Kylee Carter threw the spear 188-6, making her 19th A-T on both the Collegiate and US lists!
Before his huge  PR in FL, Anderson Peters threw 271-1.
Tatiana Khaladovich reached 216-2 at the European Throwers meet!!
Mackenzie Little chucked the spear 192-1 at Stanford!

\Hammer Throw
Most of the Throws marks came in this event!
Alyssa Wilson threw the implement 223-5, making her 23rd A-T Collegiate!
Gwen Berry reached 237-8.
Mahiwa Malychuk threw 245-10 in the Euros Throws meet!

But Beatrice Llanos and Brooke Anderson made inroads of a better nature!
Llanos's 234-4 gets her the Soph Class Record!!
And it makes her 7th A-T Collegiate!
She's a Soph (Sic!) at my sister's alma mater--Arizona State University!

Anderson reached 243-4, missing her 2018 PR by a measly inch!
But she got the consolation prize of the Texas Relays Meet Record!!

One good Heptathlon score to report--
Ashtin Zamzow scored 6148 points in the TX meet!
This makes her 11th A-T Collegiate!
BTW, I believe I made a big deal of her first name in a previous post, thinking it was spelled ASHTON--as in Mr Eaton!
But it's Ashtin!!
LOL

The Men's event went to her Texas A&M teammate, Nathan Hite, who scored 7774 points!!

In other news--
Valerie Adams gave birth to her 2nd child a few weeks early!
But child and mom are fine!!
(Will she be ready for Doha??)

And Sally Pearson shocked more than a few people by announcing she's abandoning the 100H as a separate event, and will now be a Heptathlete!
She didn't mention Doha, but said she's aiming to be in Tokyo in 2020!!
She should score MASSIVE points in the Hurdles event!!
LOL

Next up is my final OUTdoor Preview for this season--my World, US, Collegiate, and HS Records predictions!!

Considering Olivia Gruver beat me to the punch,,,,!!!

See you soon!!

2019 OUTdoor Previews (24th Placers)

This is actually my most important Preview--IMHO!
Because it tells athletes (coaches & fans) exactly what marks are necessary to make my Top 24 All-Time Performers lists--what I call my DDD's, or Double Dandy Dozen!!
If an athlete in any of my 4 core groups reach even just 24th place, they are in truly elite territory!!

This post will list  the 24th place marks on my World, US, Collegiate, and HS lists for OUTdoors!
These marks were copied onto paper on March 21st!
Any marks that came after that date are NOT included!!
I wanted these lists to indicate where we're at PRIOR to the TX & FL Relays weekend!
The symbol (*****) indicates an event not held regularly in a core group, such as the Two Mile not held for Collegiates!
Also, I simply chose to not have lists for certain events, such as the Relays for the HS set!
As always, the HS 1 & 2 Mile lists do NOT include any 1600 or 3200 times, or times converted from them!
Also, the HS Men's Throws (except the JT) are all for HS weighted implements!!
Onward!!

The lists go (from left to right) for the World, US, Collegiate, with the HS numbers being on the far right!

As you know, I added DDD's for the NXN, Footlocker, and NCAA XC Championships!!
Here they are---
NXN                    15:10.75
Footlocker           14:53.6
NCAA                 28:56.9

I think it's sad that the US Men are so far behind the World in the longest 3  events---about 52 seconds slower in the 10K, almost 3 minutes behind in the Half, and about 6 minutes off in the Marathon!!
We need to improve there!!
You'll notice that in a few lists, the Collegiate mark is fairly close to the US mark, as in the HJ!
That's mainly because the US Collegiate system has many foreigners competing here!!
That ups the quality quite a bit!!
(I don't have lists for American Collegiates separate from the overall list!)
Onto the Women!

Added to the Women's repertoire this past season (2018)---with the great promotional and logistical assistance of Becca Peter (PoleVaultPower)---was the Women's Decathlon!
While this event started several decades ago, it only became a significant factor in recent years, with it finally coming to prominence in 2018!!
Following are the current 24th placers---
DEC          5676          5384          *****          *****

Obviously, we should look for rapid improvements as the elite Multi's Women begin to compete!!

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I really wish the HS Women would run the 10000 more often!
That list is CRYING out for MASSIVE revision!!
Ditto with the US Two Mile list!!
It's really pathetic--with all due respect to those great HS Women who are on the US list!!--that there remain a few HS'ers on the US list!!
We NEED more and greater Deuce races!
And RUN them, Ladies, don't jog & kick!!
(Same with the US Men!!)

Okay, athletes & coaches, do what you can do to gain a place for yourself (or your athlete) on these lists!!
You HAVE the talent!
USE it!!

See you soon with my final Previews---my predictions of which core group Records might fall this season!!
Also, a post FILLED with this weekend's results---and some older ones!!

BTW, several of the above lists have already been changed!!
All the details in my next results post!!

See you soon!

Anna Hall would have to PR in the Heptathlon by over 600 points, but her target of 6415 seems somewhat feasible!
Are Athing Mu and Katelyn Tuohy over-rated??
Maybe!
But I still believe Mu can run the 800 in 1:57.18, and the 1000 in 2:36.9!
BTW, that 800 time was run by a Chinese girl in 1993!!
Tuohy's targets would be her own Mile PR of 4:33.87, plus the Two Mile time of 9:54.22!
Yes, I know she ran the 3200 in 9:47 and change, but you know I do NOT recognize those times!!

And that, my friends, is the Age Records Preview--completed!!

Stay tuned for a couple more Previews--but not for a day or three!!

See you soon!!

2019 OUTdoor Previews (Age Records)

Here is the first part of my Age Records Preview!

For those not familiar with my method for determining Age Records, here's my rules---
I ignore the grouped Age Records---such as Youth, Junior, and Masters!
My Age Records are determined by one's EXACT birthdate!
One day you're a certain Age, and you can break the Record for that Age!
The very next day, you can break the older Age Record!

I will list my Ages in inverse order, beginning with my "40 & over" Age!
Then the next one will be 39, then 38, and so on down to my "0-17" Age category!
(The oldest and the youngest can be ANY Age up to 17, or ANY Age from 40 on up!!
Every other Age is just for that particular Age!!)
I will also list athletes who might break one of those Age Records!
Anyway, let's get started!!

Age 40, 39, and 38 have NO candidates for Record breaking!!

Age 37
Justin Gatlin has not retired!
So he has a chance to get the 9.97 mark for the 100!
But he has a much easier shot at the 200 mark of 20.56!!
Mary Keitany has a chance at two Records, the Half & Full Marathon!
I don't have an Age 37 Record for the Half, so all she needs to do is finish one!
The Marathon Record is 2:21:29!
A stroll in the park for Queen Mary!
Anna Chicherove ((from July 22nd on) can get the HJ mark of 6-6.25!
Kathryn Mitchell can challenge the JT mark  of  220-9, but she must wait until July 10th!
Jenn Suhr already broke Stacy Dragila's Age 37 Record, Vaulting 15=5/50 recently!
She's about 100% SUHR (Sic!) to do it again!
Sorry, couldn't resist!
LOL

Age 36
Chicherova has until July 21st to get the HJ mark of 6-7!
Olga Saladukha has an easy mark in the TJ--47-6.25--but she needs to wait until June 4th!
Ms Mitchell has the JT Record of 224-2, but she has only until July 9th to get it!
Gladys Cherono has the Half Marathon and the 26.2 marks of 64:55 and 2:19:19 to shoot for!
She needs to wait until May 12th!

Age 35
Caterine Ibarguen has a fairly easy TJ mark to target--48-2.25!
And Molly Huddle  has a 10000 mark to chase---from August 31st on---31:07.58!
Can she find such a race?

Age 34
Huddle has until August 30th to run a much faster time--30:23.07!!
YIKES!!
Anita Wlodarczyk has a "child's play" HT mark to shoot for---246-9!--but she has to wait until August 9th!
Mike Rodgers needs to run a 100 in 9.80--but not until April 24th!
Luckily for Isaac Makwela, this season is extended a few weeks!
His target in the 400 is 44.72, but only from September 24th on!
As for Eliud Kipchoge, he has a couple of tempo-paced marks to aim at--59:15 and 2:03:03 in the two longest races!

Age 33
Wlodarczyk has through August 7th to put the HT out 259-0.
Tirunesh Dibaba has until the last day of September to run the 10K in 30:48.51, the Half in 66:02, or the Marathon in 2:18:11!
Renaud Lavillenie must PV 19-8.50, but only from September 18th!
The Greek Vaulter--Nikoleta Kiriakopoulou has a clearance of 15-10 to aim at!
Sally Pearson has to race the 100H in 12.39!, but only from September 19th!
Mr Makwela has until September 23rd to run the 400 in 43.84!
Arthur Abele has an easy Decathlon score to get--8390--but must wait till July 30th!
As for Jenny Simpson, she has a slough of marks to go for--3:57.22, 4:18.15, 8:27.12, 9:38.39 for the Two Mile, and the 5000 in 14:38.09!
She has to wait until August 23rd, however!!

Age 32
The former Miss Barringer has through August 22nd to run the following--3:56.65, 4:17.44, 8:22.62, , and 14:26.17!
She also has an empty slot at the Two Mile distance!!
Pearson has through September 18th to run the 100H in 12.37!
Lavillenie has until September 17th to PV 19-10.50!
And Alexis Copello needs to run the 400H in 47.37.

No candidates for Age 31 Records!!

Age 30
It's a real toughie (Can you say WR??), but put Pawel Wojciakowski on this list--but from June 6th!!
The mark he's chasing is Sergey Bubka's 20-1.75!!
Marie Josee Ta Lou has times of 10.75 and 21.66 to chase!
Will Evan Jager finally break the 8:00 barrier in the SC?
His target is 7:54.31!
Alina Talay must run the 100H in 12.44 to match that Age Record, but only from May 14th!
Gwen Berry must PR by several feet to reach the 265-3 HT Record, but only from June 29th!

Age 29
Ekaterina Stefanidi must reach 16-1.25 to get the PV Age Record!
Christian Taylor has to wait until June 18th to go for the WR in the TJ--60-0.25!!
Simon Kiptum has times of 58:18 (the WR!) and 2:03:02 to run after!
Helen Obiri has a series of targets--4:19.58, 8:23.26, 9:20.25, 14:26.10, and 30:08.06!!
Damien Warner has to score 8902 points in the Decathlon!
Sandra Perkovic has from June 21st to throw the Discus 229-0!
And there's a trio of Women who will chase the time of 52.74 in the 400H---Delilah Muhammed, Georgeanne Moline, and Lea Sprunger!!

OK, folks, that's it for Part 1 of the Age Records!
Not enough room to finish it here!!

Watch for Ages 28 down to my "0-17" category---soon!!

2019 OUTdoor Previews (Collegiate Class Records)

Here is my Preview for the Collegiate Class Records!
See my HS Preview for all the guidelines!
Of course, one thing not mentioned earlier---Class Records for HS'ers can be broken through August 31st, while Collegiate Class Records can be broken only through the NCAA Championship meet!!

Frosh Class--MEN
9.97, 19.87, 44.52, 1:43.55, 3:36.50, 3:53.2, (No Mark for the 3000), 8:25.2 (Jim Ryun's time is the sole Two Mile mark I have for Collegiates!  They don't have that event!!  Ryun's race was GREAT--I saw it in person!!  He basically tied winner Jim Grelle--same time, with negative splits of 4:15 & 4:10, closing with a 440 yard lap of 56.4!!  He was then 19 years old!!) 13:18.71, 27:38.6, 8:28.95, 13.16, 48.69, 7-6, 27-2.75, 56-4.75, 18-10.25, 71-9.50, 207-5, 268-7, 248-9, 8223

Best chance to be broken are in the 100, 400, 1500, Mile, 3000, 10000, SC, 400H, HJ, LJ, PV, DT, HT, and the Decathlon!
Anthony Schwartz has a fair chance at the sprint records!
Mondo Duplantis has a fair to middling chance at the PV mark!  LOL
Actually, so do Sondre Guttormsen and KC Lightfoot!
(Watch your back, Mondo!!)
Jamal Walton has a chance in the 400.
Martin LaMou seems okay in the TJ!
And Karel Talya has a shot at the Decathlon Record!

Frosh Class--WOMEN
10.99, 22,21, 49.80, 1:59.71, 4:11.53, (No Mark for the Mile!!), 8:57.5, 15:22.71, 32:11.81, 9:40.98, 12.65, 52.75, 6-4.25, 22-1, 46-5.25, 15-3.75, 60-2.50, 213-6, 186-4, 225-9, 6021

Easiest targets are the 100, 200, 800, 1500, Mile (!!), 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, HJ, LJ, PV, JT, and the Heptathlon!
BTW, when I say marks are the "easiest" to get, I am NOT saying these Records WILL be broken!
I'm only saying that they're weak enough that they SHOULD be broken, circumstances being perfect!
A few athletes with chances to get these marks include Caitlin Collier in the 800, 1500, and the Mile!
But I didn't see any INdoor results from her!!  Anyone know her status??
Lanae Tava Thomas might be good for the LJ Record!
She's also a sprinter, but probably not ready for any Class Records!
And then there's Madison Wiltrout, still the HSR holder in the JT, but still maybe recovering from the surgery she had awhile back!!

Soph Class--MEN
9.90, 19.86, 43.61, 1:43.25, 3:35.99, (No Marks for the Mile or 3000!), 13:08.4, 27:28.98, 8:05.4, 13.00, 47.56, 7-7.75, 27-9.50, 55-8.50, 19-4.75, 69-7.50, 219-6, 268-7, 256-0, 8095

Easiest marks should be the 100, 200, 1500, Mile, 3000, 10000, TJ, SP, JT, and the Decathlon!!
Hakim Sani Brown seems a likely candidate for the short sprint Records!
Tejaswin Shankar is a good HJ'er!
Jordan Geist and Tripp Piperi are solid in the SP!
Anderson Peters got off a good early season JT!
And Georgia's Johannes Erm is a good Decathlete!

Soph Class--WOMEN
10.99, 22.24, 50.03, 2:00.85, 4:06.19, 4:30.16, 8:54.41, 15:19.22, 31:56.72, 9:38.23, 12.57, 53.74, 6-6, 22-5.25, 47-8, 15-0, 63-5, 221-5, 192-5, 231-3, 6223

Best bets to fall are the 100, 200, 800, Mile, 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, 400H, PV, JT, HT, and the Heptathlon!
Lots of names here!!
Twanisha Terry and Tamara Clark are solid in the 100 and 200.
Lynna Irby didn't have the greatest INdoor season, but watch for her in the 200 and 400 anyway!
Weini Kelati seems best at distances from the 3K to the 10K!
Adva Cohen is probably best in the 3000, 5000, and SC!
Chanel Brissett is solid in the 100H!
Kelachi Nwanaga is a good JT'er!
Lisa Gunnarsson--if she's healthy--is almost a sure bet for the PV Record!
Beatrice Llano is oood for the HT!
And Tyra Gittens might challenge the Heptathlon Record!

Junior Class--MEN
9.82, 19.69, 44.10, 1:44.75, 3:35.01, (No Msrk for the Mile and 3000!), 13:20.55, 27"08/39, 8:22.34, 13.21, 47.02, 7-9.75, 28-0, 57-6.50, 19-0.25, 72-1. 223-7, 292-4, 268-10, 8446

Good chance to be broken is in the 400, 800, 1500, Mile, 5000, SC, 110H, and the PV!
Divine Oduduru had a GREAT INdoor season!
But can he have a great OUTdoor season also?
Ditto for Oliver Hoere!
Can he get the 1500, Mile, and maybe the 3000 Records?
Then there's Grant Holloway!
He seems a sure bet for the Class Record in the 110H!
But can he add the LJ Record also??
Chris Nilsen is a goodie in the PV, while Gleb Dudarev will challenge the HT Record---maybe!!

Junior Class--WOMEN
10.85, 22.09, 50.15, 1:59.10, 4:06.67, 4:31.01, 8:47.35, 15:11.13, 31:25.45, 9:29.20, 12.39, 53.21, 6-4.25, 22-10.50, 46-11.50, 15-3, 61-7.50, 216-8, 198-0, 240-7, 6390

Easiest targets are the 400, 800, 1500, Mile, 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, 400H, HJ, PV, JT, and the Heptathlon!
Candidates for some of these Records include Oregon Duck Mackenzie Dunsmore in the 400, and Jessica Hull and Danae Rivers in the 800, 1500, and Mile!
Allie Ostrander might be good for everything from the 3000 to the 10000, including the 3000SC!!
Anna Rohrer is best at the two longest distances!
Lucy Bryan is a solid in the PV!

Senior Class--MEN
9.92, 19.87, 43.70, 1:44.50, 3:35.30, 3:52.44, 7:37.70 in the only 3000 Record I have, 13:15.77, 27:41.05, 8:21.48, 13.18, 47.67, 7-8.50, 28-8.25, 57-6.50, 19-7.50, 72-2.25, 221-3, 273-3, 265-3, 8539

Best bets for the chopping block are the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, Mile 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, 110H, 400H, SP, and the JT!!
Doing the courting might be Andre Ewers in the shortest sprints, Wil London in the 400, Morgan McDonald and Grant Fisher in the 5000, but add the 10K for the Australian!
Daniel Roberts is a solid in the 110H!
Matt Ludwig might have a shot at the PV mark!
And Payton Otterdahl seems a sure bet for the SP---and maybe even one other Throw!!

Senior Class--WOMEN
10.78, 22.02, 49.71, 1:59.11, 3:59.90, 4:29.04, 8:59.15, 15:07.64, 31:18.07, 9:24.41, 12.48, 53.54, 6-6.25, 22-11.25, 47-11.75, 15-5.75, 63-10.25, 215-3, 204-0, 244-6, 6527

Records that seem the easiest to get are the 800, Mile, 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, 100H, 400H, PV, and the JT!
Some of the athletes vying for them include Kayla White in the 100 and 200!
Ednah Kurgat should be best from the 3000 through the 10000, excepting the SC!!
The battle for supremacy in the Women's PV should be between Lexi Jacobus, Olivia Gruver, and Tori Hoggard!
Hang on to your hats!!
Mackenzie Little seems the best in the JT!

And that's it for the Class Records---HS and Collegiate!
Next up will be the Age Records Preview--probably done over two posts!
However, I want to follow the T&F action today, so might not get to those before tonight, or early tomorrow morning!!

See you soon!

2019 OUTdoor Previews (HS Class Records)

This--and the next few posts--will be devoted to Previewing the 2019 OUTdoor season!
This is my Class Records Preview--for High School!
Next up will be my Class Records for Collegiates. followed by my Age Records Previews!
Then I'll close with my "4 core group" Preview---predicting which World, US, Collegiate, and HSR's have the best (or worst!!) chance of being broken!!

What I will NOT be doing is a Schedule of meets and Road races!!
More on that later!!
For now, let's get to the Class Records!!

Beginning with the 9th Grade, I'll list all the Class Records I have for each Grade!
I will NOT list which mark goes with each event, but these are generally known and recognized!
Then I will name a few athletes who might break some of these records!
However, this names list will be brief, with just the most likely to get the Records listed!

While the OUTdoor season Worldwide opens on January 1st, the focus here is on the domestic US season, beginning with the Texas Relays!
(The TX Relays first day is done, but it was just the first day of each Multi!!

The Records listed are the latest known, as of today!

9th Grade--MEN
10.35, 20.62, 45.23, 1:49.87, 3:53.9, 4:12.21, 8:20.15, 8:53.98, 14:54.87, 32:48.0, 9:16.43, 14.05 (39), 14.71 (42), 37.22, 52.61, 7-1.50, 24-6.75, 49-3.25, 17-4.50, 67-10.25 (12), 49-11.25 (16), 191-8 (HS), 145-4 (Pro), 207-5, 218-8 (HS), 160-2 (Pro), 5982 (Pro)

The Frosh Class HS'ers are the most difficult for me to predict, because I don't follow the Middle Schoolers too closely, and many such athletes make humongous improvements from the 8th to the 9th Grade!!
They almost literally come out of nowhere!!
Thus, for the Men, I don't have any names to offer!
However, the easiest marks--IMHO--are the 5000, 10000, 400H, LJ, TJ, the Pro SP, DT, HT, and the Pro Decathlon!
(NOTE--I list the Pro Decathlon Records only for the Men, meaning they use the Pro weighted implements, and the 110H is for the 42 inch hurdles!)

9th Grade--WOMEN
11.13, 22.48, 52.15, 2:02.40, 4:17.84, 4:41.80, 9:26.32, 10:04.73, 16:34.0, 34:59.38, 10:50.92, 12.84, 40.28, 55.63, 6-0.50, 21-0, 42-1.75, 13-4.25, 49-5.25, 168-1, 167-11, 173-4, 4934, 5279 (Dec)
(NOTE--This should be known to my loyal readers, but a reminder--The 1600 & 3200, or marks converted from them--are NOT included here--just the One and Two Mile!!  Also, the Men generally throw HS weighted implements, while the Women throw Pro weighted implements from the 9th Grade on!)

Easiest marks are the Mile, 5000, 10000, SC, PV, SP, JT, and the Heptathlon!
As always, there are generally more names to list for the Women's underclasses, as they seem to improve more rapidly than the Men!
In the 100 & 200, watch for Moforehan Abirusawa!
Kayla Davis is great over the 200 & 400!
Roisin Willis might break the 800, 1500 & Mile Records!
And Alyssa Jones is good in the LJ!

10th Grade--MEN
10.23, 20.51, 45.14, 1:48.98, 3:46.55, 4:03.29, 8:13.85, 8:49.46, 14:02.33, 29:27.4, 9:00 .11, 13.63 (39), 14.36 (42), 35.90, 50.10, 7-3.25, 25-2.25, 51-3.25, 18-1, 72-8 (12) 56-7.50 (16), 201-6 (HS), 161-1 (Pro), 221-2, 243-11 (HS), 192-9 (Pro), 6581

Easiest marks are the  LJ, TJ, and all the Pro weighted Throws!
Watch for Katrin Jackson in the LJ!

10th Grade--WOMEN
10.98, 22.43, 51.70, 2:02.29, 4:11.01, 4:33.87, 9:09.71, 9:55.05, 16:24.83, 34:01.1, 10:27.44, 13.01, 40.10, 55.28, 6-3, 21-4.50, 43-7.25, 13-8, 52-4.50, 179-7, 185-8, 192-5, 5170, 5379

Surprisingly, just one name to offer here, but she's a biggie!!
Name is Tamara Davis, and look for the 100 & 200 Records to be challenged!

11th Grade--MEN
10.14, 20.18, 44.99, 1:47.68, 3:39.0, 3:59.0, 8:08.86, 8:29.46, 14:11.2, 29:06.8, 9:03.8, 13.32 (39), 13.74 (42), 35.25, 49.56, 7-6, 26-8.50, 54-10.25, 19-4.25, 74-4.50 (HS), 61-5.50 (16), 222-1 (HS), 192-2 (Pro), 241-11, 260-0 (HS), 210-11 (Pro), 7131

Best bets to go down are the 3000, 5000, 10000, SC, and the HT's
Marcellus Moore and Micah Williams are good bets for the 100, and maybe the 200, but doubtful there!
Brandon Miller might be good for the 800 Record, but I think he skipped INdoors!!  Injured??
Cole Sprout is the best Distancer in the 11th Grade, but put him down for the 3000 only!
Then there's Trey Knight!
He's good for BOTH Hammer Throws!!

11th Grade--WOMEN
11,13, 22.58, 50.74, 1:59.51, 4:04.62, 4:37.91, 9:10.51, 10:00.44, 16:24.83, 33:26.63, 10:15.26, 12.89, 40.13, 54.15, 6-5, 21-11, 44-11.75, 14-3, 55-9.25, 185-4, 181-2, 214-4, 5798, 5640

Watch for the 100, 200, Mile, 3000, Two Mile, 5000, 10000, SC, and the PV to fall!
BTW, I haven't been predicting the Decathlon Records to be broken--mainly because they might  not even hold the event!!  But if they do, watch for all four Class Records to fall, it's such a new event!!
I have LOTS of names here!!
Brianna Williams is VERY good in the short sprints!!
Athing Mu could get the  400, 800, 1500, and the Mile--if she runs the longer distances!
For everything from the 3000 to the 5000 (add the 10000 if they run it!!), watch for Katelyn Tuohy, Katelynn Hart, and Marlee Starliper!
Taylor Ewert might be good for the SC--maybe both distances, but I don't keep Records for the 2000SC!
Then we have Morgan Smalls, who could get the HJ Record!
She's also a good TJ'er, but not yet good enough for this Class Record!
Finally, Monique Hardy is a good Hammer Thrower!
(Other Throwing events??)

12th Grade--MEN
10.00, 20.09, 44.69, 1:46.45, 3:38.26, 3:53.43, 7:59.83, 8:34.40, 13:37.91, 28:32.8, 8:47.04, 13.08  (39), 13.76 (42), 35.02, 49.38, 7-7, 26-10, 53-11.25, 19-10.25, 81-3.50 (12), 67-9 (16), 237-6 (HS), 201-4 (Pro), 255-4, 260-0.50 (HS), 219-7 (Pro), 7524

Best bets to fall come in the 400, Two Mile, and the 110H (Pro)!
Very sorry, but I can't see any Senior Class man now capable of breaking these Records!!
Shock me, Boys!!

12th Grade--WOMEN
11.11, 22.11, 50.69, 2:00.07, 4:08.71, 4:35.24, 9:00.62, 9:51.35, 15:45.46, 32:52.5, 10:00.72, 12.92, 38.90, 53.82, 6-4.25, 22-5, 44-11, 14-7.50, 58-1, 198-8, 180-10, 211-1, 5577, 5676

Kelsey Chmiel looks good for Records from the 3000 through the 5000--with the 10K added if she runs it seriously!
Chloe Cunliffe and Erica Ellis could get the PV mark, while Jasmine Moore is going to chase the TJ Record!
Anna Hall has the best chance for the Heptathlon mark, but don't overlook Sterling Lester!!

I'd wanted to do the Collegiate Class Records here also, but this is too long already!!
So watch for those soon---a few hours!

2019 INdoor Wrap-Up--the Numbers

John Lennon sang--Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans!
Well, in this particular case, it's not a hospital visit that delayed this post, planned for a few days ago!
No, it was a new HSR in the Women's Pole Vault!
Normally, the INdoor season goes from about December 1st through March 15th!
But Chloe Cunliffe used a Tacoma All-Comers meet to push that date back a bit!
On March 17th, she first broke the INdoor HSR with a clearance of 14-5.25, breaking Tori Weeks (Hoggard) mark of 14-4!
Then she broke her own mark with an incredible push over the bar set at 4.50, or 14-9!!
But she wasn't finished!
She took a pair of attempts at 4.60, or 15-1!!
She missed those, but even a 14-9 coming from a girl whose previous best, INdoors or OUTdoors, was 14-0, it's a shock!
That's a nine inch PR!!
In addition to the HSR, she gets the Senior Class Record, and moves from 7th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to the Top!

I have a few other marks to report, and will do so at the bottom of this post!!
But now to the Numbers that evolved from this "past" INdoor season!!

How many Records were broken in my 4 core groups?
There were 4 WR's, ALL from the Men!!
They were the 600, 1500, Mile, and the 4 X Mile Relay!
Five American Records fell, 3 for the  Men, and a pair from the Women!
They were the 600, 800, and 60H from the Men, and the 600 and 800 from the Women!
The Collegiate crowd produced 4 CR's!
The Men got the 60H, PV, and SP!
The Women's sole CR came in the 1000!
The HSR number is a big NINE
The Men's came mostly in the Relays!
Overall, they got the HSR in the Pro weighted WT,and in the 4X200, 4X400, the 4 X Mile, and the DMR!
The Women's quartet came in the 600, 3000, PV (!!), and the Pentathlon!

I put a lot of emphasis on Meet Records!
So which meets produced the most MR's??
As per normal, the NBIN led the way with 8 of those babies!
The USATF meet was a surprise 2nd, with 6 going down!
The SEC nabbed 4
None got 3, but several broke a pair of MR's!
They were Millrose, Boston, Glasgow, the Big 12 Conference, and the European Championships!!

What about Class Records?
The Men got 9, while the Women broke 13!!
The 9th Grade Men struck out, while the Women broke 4!
The Men got ZERO from their 10th Graders, with the Women getting a pair!
The Men did get an 11th Grade mark, but the Women again outnumbered them , breaking four!!
The sole Senior Class Record for HS'ers went to the Women!!
So the HS'ers were dominated by the Woemen--11 to just one!!
But the Collegiates Gold went to the Men!
The Frosh Class Men got a pair, while the women got NONE!
The Soph Women got one, while the Men struck out!
Junior Men got four, with the Women getting just one!
Senior Men nabbed a pair, with Women getting ZERO!

Age Records?/
As usual, not many!!
The Men nabbed 13, while the Women got 11, for a total of 24!!
The Men's 1500 and Mile led with 4 apiece!
Getting one each were the Men's 200, 300, 600, 800, and the PV!
All others got NONE!!
The HJ was first for the Women, with 3 Age Records broken!
Getting a pair apiece were the 600 and Pentathlon!
One each was taken down in the 1500, Mile, PV, and WT!!

Then there are my DDD's, or Double Dandy Dozen lists of the Top 24 A-T Performers in each event!!
The World Men got 38 marks on my lists, while the World Women got 32.
The US Women led the Men, 56 to 51!
The Men also took the Collegiate set, leading with 42, to 39 for the Women!
And the HS Women CRUSHED the Men, 54 to 34!!
Totals for the Men were 165, while the Women got on my lists 181 times!!
Grand Total was 346--down a ways from last year!!

Here's the breakdown, per event---
The World Men's 600 led the way with 6 marks!
Five got a listing in the Mile, with the 400 getting 4.
With a trio were the 200, 300, and 800!
The 1500, 5000, 60H,  SP, and WT got a pair each!
The 60, LJ, TJ, PV, and 4 X 400 Relay got one each!
Getting NONE were the 1000, 2000, 3000, Two Mile, and the Heptathlon!

The World Women got 5 each in the PV and WT!
The Mile got four!
There were none with 3, but the 300, 600, 1500, Two Mile, and the TJ got a pair each!
Nabbing one spot on my list were the 60, 800, 1000, , 3000, 5000, HJ, LJ, and the 4 X 400 Relay!
Striking out were the 200, 400, 2000, 60H, SP. and Pentathlon!!

The US numbers were---
7 in the 1500!!
The 600,800, and Mile got 6 apiece!
The 400 got 5 marks, while the 5000 got 4!
There were no three's, but 2 each were listed in the 200, 300, 60H, PV, SP, and WT!
One each were listed in the 60, 3000, Two Mile, and Heptathlon!
With ZERO were the 1000, 2000, HJ, LJ, and TJ!

The US Women's busiest event was the 1000, with 7!
None got 6, but with 5 each were the 1500, Mile, and WT!
The 600, Two Mile, and 5000 were listed 4 times each!
With a trio were the 300, 800, and PV!
With 2 apiece were the 3000, TJ, SP, and the Pentathlon!
One each were listed in the 60, 200, and 400!
Getting NONE were the 2000, HJ, and LJ!

The Collegiate Men's 400 led the way with 6.
The PV got 5 marks, while none attained 4!
Three apiece were listed in the 60, 200, 600, 800, 60H, and the 4 X 400 Relay!
A pair were listed in the 3000, SP, and WT!
One each went to the 300, 1500, Mile, HJ, TJ, Heptathlon, and the DMR!
The 1000, 5000, and LJ  were EMPTY!

The Collegiate Women's best event was the WT with five!
The PV got four!
The 60, 300, 1000, , 60H , and the Pentathlon got 3 each!
With a pair were the 600, 800, Mile, 3000, SP, and the DMR!
With one each were the 200, 400, 1500, 5000,  TJ, and 4 X 400 Relay!
Getting ZERO were the HJ and LJ!

The HS Men's busiest event was the 1000, with 6 marks listed!
None got 5, while the 1500 listed four!
With 3 apiece were the 60, 200, and the Mile!
With two each were the 400, 800, 5000, 60H, TJ, and PV!
With 1 each were the 600, 3000, and WT!
NONE got listed in the 300, Two Mile, HJ, LJ, SP, and the Pentathlon!

Women HS'ers were led by the HJ, getting 6 marks listed!
The 800, 1500, Mile, and the Pentathlon got 5 each!
The 400, 600, 3000, and the Two Mile got 4 apiece!
The 60H and LJ got a trio listed!
Two each were listed in the 60, 300, PV, and WT!
(NOTE--Chloe Cunliffe was already on the list with her early season 14-0, so her recent 14-9 just improved her place!!)
Two apiece were listed in the 200, 1000, and TJ!
The 5000 (!!) and SP got ZERO!

I'll close this post with all the latest marks I have (all OUTdoors!!), plus some additional information on a few older marks from INdoors!
On the INdoors side, Tyrell Richard's 44.82 gets him the Senior Class Record!
Micah Williams's 6.60 is the Junior Class Record!!

Jasmine Moore's TJ mark was actually 44-2.50, NOT thr 44-2 I reported!!
It's the NBIN Meet Record, but with no ties!!
Also, she gets 2nd A-T HS, but with no ties there either!!
And Nathan Stone PV'ed 17-6, making him 15th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!!

Now on to the OUTdoor season!!
Jenn Suhr PV'ed 15-5.50, nabbing the Age 37 Record away from Stacy Dragila--by one half inch!!

Akeem Bloomfield opened up in the 200, timing 20.24 with a wind of 0.9!

KC Lightfoot had a good OUTdoor rust-buster, PV'ing 18-5.25!

The HS'er opened up early with decent marks!
Matthew Boling doubled in the 100 and 200, timing 10.22 and 20.58!
The 100 (1.3 wind) makes him 19th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!!

Alex Meier ran 14:26.95 over 5000 meters, but he doesn't make my list!
Also in the 5000, Brynn Brown timed 16:25.47, making her 17th A-T HS!!

Getting slashed FROM my list was a Golden Oldie--Julia Stamps's 16:31.4 from 1995!!
Finally, the Lisbon Half was taken by Mesenet Geremew for the Men, time of 59:37!
The Women's race was won by Vivian Cheruiyot's 66:34!!
The latter was a Course Record!!

And that finally wraps up the 2019 INdoor season!1
(Unless, like Ms Cunliffe, someone produces a worthy mark in an event moved INdoors later in the OUTdoor season!!

See you soon with some OUTdoor Previews!!

2019 INdoor AOY's

I both love & hate doing this post every year!
Reason--it marks the end of the INdoor season!
But with OUTdoors already upon us, it's time to wrap up INdoors!
(Another reason being the difficulty of naming my AOY's. and deciding what made the season so fascinating!)
I'll be presenting my choices for Athlete of the Year, Performance of the Year, and Personality of the Year in all four of my core groups--World, US, Collegiate, and High School!
In each category and group, Men are listed first, then Women!
BTW, "HM" stands for Honorable Mention!
All choices are mine, and mine alone!!

WORLD Athlete of the Year--MEN
Simple.
The Mile is the honorary Event of All-Time, and YOMIF KEJELCHA gets my AOY for taking out Hicham El Guerrouj's WR, aged 22 years!!
His near miss (by 0.01 of a second would NOT have gotten him this award, but when he smashed the WR by 1.44 seconds, my decision was made!
HM's---Sam Tefera, Grant Holloway, Donavan Brazier, Divine Oduduru, Tyrell Richard, Piotr Lisek, Ryan Crouser, and Michael Saruni

WORLD Athlete of the Year--WOMEN
No WR's were broken, which made my choice more difficult!
Not so shockingly, but Athing Mu came the closest to snaring the Golden Egg!
But her other marks, while good for a 16 year old HS'er, plus her loss at NBIN, killed her chances!
Overall, LAURA MUIR had the greatest collection of marks--and victories!
Katerina Johnson-Thompson lost out because of her poor LJ in the Euros Pentathlon!
HM's---Ms Mu, KJT, Marie Josee Ta Lou, Ajee Wilson, Mariya Lasitskene, Anzhelika Sidorova Gabrielle Stafford, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Holly Bradshaw, Ivana Spanovic, and Ana Peleteiro

US Athlete of the Year--MEN
This one presented a problem,
Do I go with Grant Holloway's 7.35, the best 60H time in many years?
Or to DONAVAN BRAZIER, who got the WR in the often-run-INdoors 600, plus the American Record in the 800??
Obviously, because I put  Brazier's name in ALL CAPS, you know who I chose!!
HM's---Holloway gets the strongest HM here, with others going to Tyrell Richard, Daniel Roberts, John Gregorek, Ryan Crouser, and Andrew Irwin

US Athlete of the Year--WOMEN
ATHING MU, still a braces-wearing teenager, but one who ran the greatest 600 race ever--not just for the time (2nd A-T World there!), but for who she beat!!
A brilliant athlete NOW, and an even more thrilling PROSPECT!!
HM's---Ms Wilson gets my strongest vote here,  If she'd gotten the AR in the 1000 also, she'd have beaten Mu for my AOY!!
Add Colleen Quigley, Keturah Orji, Katie Nageotte, Janeah Stewart, and Michelle Atherley

COLLEGIATE Athlete of the Year--MEN
Guess!!
GRANT HOLLOWAY
His 60H time is a classic, but he added a 6.50 in the 60, a decent LJ, and fast Relay legs!
You might ask why Mondo Duplantis didn't win, since he nabbed the CR in the PV!
Not by enough!  Less than an inch PR!
Also, turning his back on the Euros hurt him, IMHO!!
HM's--Mondo, Payton Otterdahl, Richard, Roberts, Oduduru, Devin Dixon, Oliver Hoere, Shelby McEwen, and Harrison Williams

COLLEGIATE Athlete of the Year--WOMEN
Sad to say, but there were no really outstanding Female athletes in the Collegiate ranks in 2019!
But DANAE RIVERS had the sole sub-4:30 Mile, broke the CR in the 1000, and had a good 800 time!
HM's--Kaelin Roberts, Jessica Hull, Alicia Monson, Chanel Brissett, Lexi Jacobus, Ms Atherley, and Stamatia Scarvelis

HIGH SCHOOL Athlete of the year--MEN
Another easy choice!
Who else but TREY KNIGHT???
His HS-WT didn't get the Junior Class Record, but it was close!
And he came within 7 feet of a previously unimaginable matching or breaking of Conor McCullough's HSR!!
Plus, he showed great consistency--and oh yeah, he SHATTERED the HSR for the Professional WT!!
HM's--Lance Lang, Micah Williams, Matthew Payamps, Luis Peralta, Mario Heslop, Kurt Powdar, and Matt Rizzo

HIGH SCHOOL Athlete of the Year--WOMEN!!
Sit yourself in a corner with a Dunce cap on if you didn't think I'd choose ATHING MU as my HS AOY!!
While Katelyn Tuohy had another outstanding season, she "failed" in two ways--not getting the HSR in the Two Mile, and failing to break 9:00 in the 3000!
Mu's choice need not be explained, but for starters, the AR & HSR in the 600, fastest 400 and 800, plus the fastest 1000!
And one memorable loss!!
Ouch!!
HM's--Tamari Davis & Kayla Davis (NOT related!), Marlee Starliper, Katelynn Hart, Taryn Parks, Ms Tuohy, S Ballard, Anna Hall, Morgan Smalls Jasmine Moore, and Monique Hardy

Give a Special Mention to Roisin Willis, who got the Frosh Class 800 Record--while beating our AOY!!

WORLD Performance of the Year--MEN
Easy!
Kejelcha's Mile WR!!
HM's--Tefera's WR in the 1500, Brazier's 600 WR, Oduduru's 20.08, Crouser's
big SP, Michael Saruni's 800, the Brooks Beasts team in the 4 X Mile Relay, and Holloway's 60H

WORLD Performance of the Year--WOMEN
This was a bit tough, but I finally went with KJT's 4983 in the Pentathlon!!
Not quite the WR, and 17 points shy of the magical 5000 barrier, she gets it mainly because no other mark quite matched her's!
HM's--Ta Lou's 7.02, Mu's 600, Muir's Mile, 3000 & 5000, Wilson't 800 and 1000, KK's Mile & 3000, Lasitskene's PR in the HJ, Peleteiro's TJ, Spanovic's LJ,, Nageotte's PV, Stewart's WT, and Orji's 47-8 in the TJ, and Sidorova's 16+ PV

US Performance of the Year--MEN
Another 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle!
I'm still intellectually undecided, but my GUT tells me it has to be Donavan Brazier's AR in the 800, breaking a 37 year old mark!!
Holloway's 7.35 was GREAT, but the AR he broke was a lot younger!!
John Gregorek's Mile, Crouser's SP, and Irwin's big PR in the PV!!

US Performance of the Year--WOMEN
Yes, that tall gangly TEENie gets this prize!!
You know, Athing Mu!!
Her 600 was that good!!
HM's--Wilson't pair, Quigley's Mile times, English Gardner's big return, Kaelin Roberts's 400, Nageotte's PV, Stewart's WT, and Orji's TJ

COLLEGIATE Performance of the Year--MEN
Grant Holloway's 60H time--no contest!!
HM's--Payton Otterdahl leads the way here!
Add Tyrell Richard's 400, McEwen's 7-7 HJ, Roberts's 7.41, Hoere's Mile, Morgan McDonald's series of good times (and all his wins!!), Dixon, and some kid called MONDO

COLLEGIATE Performance  of the Year--WOMEN
Hmmmm, interesting question!
In the end, this one goes to Alicia Monson's 3000 at Millrose, because of who she beat--a field of Pro's!
HM's--Weini Kelati & Ednah Kurgat (for their December 1st 5K's), Rivers's Mile & 1000, Roberts's 400, Atherley, Scarvelis, Brissett, Yanis David, and MRS Jacobus

HIGH SCHOOL Performance of the Year--MEN
Trey Knight easily gets this one, but I can't decide if he gets it more for his HS Weight Throw mark, or his WT, Professional weighted impliment!
Let's call it a tie!
HM's--Micah Williams and Lance Lang for their speedy 60's Matthew Payamps 2nd A-T 1000, Peralta's 600, and Heslop's fast 200

HIGH SCHOOL Performance of the Year--WOMEN
The young lady whose name is spelled MU, but pronounced as MO!
First name, Athing!
HM's--This list is LONG!!
Begin with Ms Tuohy, then add Starliper, Hart, K & T Davis, Taryn Parks, Moore, Ballard, Morgan Smalls, Anna Hall, and /Hardy

Once again, a Special Mention goes to Roisin Willis!

Just one award is given for Personality of the Year for each sex!
Call it my WORLD Personality of the Year award!
In other words, ANYone is eligible, whether a HS kid, or a grizzled Pro!!
This award does not necessarily go to the greatest athlete!
In fact, they don't even need to BE an athlete!!
He and She must have a certain flair, panache, chutzpah, and maybe has done something, or acted in a controversial headline-making manner!

WORLD Personality of the Year--MEN
Mondo Duplantis was TALKED about the most, if you go by the number of comments he got on the T&FN Message Board!
But that alone doesn't win this award!
Neither do you get it if you broke a World Record in the Mile!
So scratch off Yomif Kejelcha from the list!
Grant Holloway?
Charming & confident, and talented up the gazoo!
But nope, not him either!
That leaves my greatest candidate for the role of the Anti-Christ in our sport as the winner here!
Sebastian Coe??
Nah, not him, despite his recent edict that might DESTROY T&F as we know and love it!
Sooooo, I grant this prestigious award to the Man I DESPISE the most in T&F--ALBERTO SALAZAR, Coach of the Oregon Project (formerly NIKE OP)!
Why??
Because he had the guts--and the most insane chutzpah to even suggest that Mr Kejelcha--one of his athletes--WOULD attempt to break TWO WR's in ONE race--those WR's being the Mile and 1500!
And he came close!!
He got the WR, and came within 0.21 seconds of getting the 1500 mark also!
Give it to AlSal, he's got some pair of cajones!!

WORLD Personality of the Year--WOMEN
Ms Mu has a whale of a personality!
She's a real charmer, and will go far in whatever she chooses to do in life!
I love her!
BUT she doesn't get this award!!
Neither does Laura Muir, who became a certified Animal Doc in 2018, and ran herself into the ground (or flat out on the track!!) in all her races.
I LOVE KK (aka KoKo, aka Konstanze Klosterhalfen!
Heck, I'd give it to her for her beauty, and her NAME!!
But no, she's out also!
That leaves my choice as ANA PELETEIRO, winner of the Euros TJ with a mark of 48-4!
But it wasn't for her vast talent!
She gets it for her STUNNING beauty (i.e sexiness!!)!
And her--yes, her PERSONALITY!!
If you watched her at the Euros, you know what I'm talking about!!
She razzed up the crowd with her HYPER energy, her rousing spirit--not to mention showing the most REAR END, which the cameras seemed to follow--from BEHIND her!!--as she walked away from the sand pit!
She's another who will rise to the top in whatever she does!
Hope to SEE a lot more of her!
Heh.

Well, I have a lot of numbers left to present, but this post is long enough!
So look for Part 2 later today!!

See you soon!

The Future of the DL's

In 2015, I wrote a post highly critical of the entire Diamond League concept, while offering a few solutions!
Well, it seems no one was listening!
But the recent decision by the IAAF to cut the time of each meet, and some of the events, makes it urgent that we fight this legislative mangling of some of the most important meets of each year, including years holding WC's or OG's!!

What ARE DL's?
They're meets devised to determine the greatest athlete of the OUTdoor season, based on the number of points they get!
Seven of the 14 meets have one set of events, the other 7 having a different set, so that most athletes get a chance to compete for the prizes--i,e CASH!!

But now the IAAF wants to change all that!
They want to cut the number of meets from 14 to 12!
They want to cut EIGHT events from the schedule of each meet!
They want to cut each meet's overall time from 2 hours to 90 minutes--for TV!!
Let's not forget that a former WR holder on the track is leading this set of changes!!
Sebastan Coe!

The change that's gotten some loud (and defiant) replies is the elimination of the track 10000 from the schedule of events!
Of course, that distance has been so rarely run (on the track) in recent years that it almost killed itself!

But look at the percentages of participation in some event categories!
I don't have the exact numbers, but my guess is that distance races--5000 on up--has the highest degree of participation!
Sure, a vast majority is NON-elite, but there are enough elites who DO run distances on the track!
Look at meets like Payton Jordan, or the Friday Night distance programs at the Eugene (Pre) DL!!
(That might be changed this year, as the meet will be held at Stanford, due to Hayward's renovation project!)
I think it's great that TV is wanting to televise every DL meet!
I can even accept its shortening of the "TV window"!
But why must T&F limit THEMSELVES to that window?
Why must ANY limits be devised that can only imperil the continuing growth of our sport??

The Prefontaine meet had the best answer!
Have a night of distance events that the window can't open itself to!
Name me one person--or specifically the athletes who have competed there these past many years--and tell me THEY don't like competing OUTSIDE the window TV offers!
My best memory of that Friday Night session was when they held a 10000 AND a THIRTY THOUSAND meter race---back to back--on the track!
And it was all FREE!!
FORTY thousand meters of World Class racing!!
(Plus other events!!)

The Bislett Games (Oslo's DL) held a 10K every year--BEFORE they tied themselves to the DL system!
The Van Damme meet in Brussels also had a 10K race!
(BTW, another part of Coe's "solution" is to make the "Finals" duo of meets (Brussels and Zurich) a ONE meet affair from here on!!  And actually, I LIKE that idea!!)

I'm not sure about the HT, but I LOVE that event!
Anita Wlodarczyk has been one of the sport's favorite athletes for maybe 10 years or more!!
It's such an exciting event!
I'm happy the Challenge set of HT meets were conceived, but  let's not force them into a foster system,!
Let's make that event, and the 10K, part of the DL family again!!

Is the money there?
Is THAT the problem?

If it is, then what's changed from the days of Bislett's and Van Damme's 10K's?
If the money was there then, why not now?
Other than MEGA-stars such as Usain Bolt--who maybe commanded a much higher price than the rest of the athletes, I don't see why the money---now that Bolt is retired!--can't be more evenly spread around!
Distance runners are--and will--be turning to the Roads (as Paul Chelimo recently stated), but can't a space be made on the track for that group also??

In fact, I want to see a track 10K for BOTH sexes offered!!
Sure, not every athlete would run the 10K in every DL, but I could see them competing in 3 or 4!
Or alternating their schedule with the 5000---which, BTW, is ALSO being eliminated!!
Yes, Coe wants to make the longest track race the 3000!
If that's to be the final outcome, why not lengthen that event to the Two Mile--and time the runners enroute at 3k??

One person commented that practically every other sport's events (games, meets, whatever) last far longer than 2 hours--and especially 90 minutes!!
Baseball and football games regularly go past the three hour mark!!
With overtime or extra innings sometimes extending the time to FOUR hours or more!!

Why must T&F limit their meets to less than TWO hours??

Even if a "Friday Night" session can't be added---because of hotel rooms being needed, or transportation needs being made more difficult---surely the added events can be scheduled for the hour or two BEFORE the day's meet begins---or after it's over!!

Look at England's Highgate Harriers  track 10K!
It's like a tailgate party--with races added!
They have tents set up over the track---extending maybe 40 or 50 meters--under which the fans stand behind ropes in the 4th lane on out!
They can drink beer or whatever while watching thrilling elite races!!
Most British stars compete there, such as Andy Vernon and Jo Pavey in past races!!
Seems like it's loads of fun--and a way to popularize distance races on the track!!
I'd love to see Payton Jordan try that!

So just extend the meet---outside the TV window!

I can understand the long Walks (20K & 50K) not being held in these meets!
Or the Multi's!
But if the facilities are able to hold EVERY field event---including the longest throws (DT, HT, JT), then why try to eliminate any of them??
Even at Hayward, there's an area outside the stadium where the HT used to be held?
I saw Lance Deal throw there, among many others!!
While I'm speaking of field events, return to the SIX throw set-up for the Throws!
(As well as the Horizontals getting 6 attempts, not four!!)

There are meets for individual events held every year!
You have the INdoor PV meets in Akron, Ohio, and Reno, Nevada!
You have Europe's All Star Perche meet for the Vault, and the Eberstadt HJ meet!
The Jordan meet can easily be considered a Distances meet, even though they have shorter track races, and some field events!

But the DL's CAN be important!
Of course, for me, times and marks are much more important than points scored or medals won!!
One way to have athletes run faster in every meet is to offer cash for Records!
For WR's, Meet Records, or even National Records!
Time trialing may be boring to some, but not to this blogger!!
Watching an athlete try to hold onto a Record pace AFTER the rabbit has left the track is as thrilling to watch as anything else track has to offer!!

But PR's are Records also--just by a different name!
PR stands for PERSONAL Record---so it's a Record whichever way you look at it!
(Even WORLD Records are PR's--for the athlete setting the WR!!)
So one need not try for a WR, or a National Record---they can just try for Personal Records!

Please--athletes, coaches, fans---speak out LOUDLY against Sebastian Coe's idea for a new DL set-up!!

Ask yourself---WHICH events will be eliminated to fulfill Coe's goals?
How MANY athlete's livelihoods will be short changed?
How many FANS will be lost--even to watching the TV coverage, let alone ATTENDING the meet in person---and helping hotels, restaurants, transportation systems, shops and movie theaters show a greater profit?

For me, the BEST idea would be to drop the DL concept entirely!
Go back to the meets being Invitationals, as they used to be!
Bislett, Rome, Oslo, Zurich, Pre, Stockholm, and all the others which were uplifted from Invites to DL status---should return to what they were before!!

I'll close this by quoting my HERO, Bob Dylan!
This is a verse from his song "Maggie's Farm"---which was a metaphor for the US government!
Let it stand now as a metaphor for the IAAF's idiotic idea for changing the DL's!!

I try my best to be just like I am
But everybody wants you to be just like them
They say "Sing while you slave!"
But I just get bored
No, I ain't gonna work on Maggie's Farm no more!!

BE ANGRY!!
Scream your displeasure at Coe and his COhorts (Sic!) at the IAAF!!

Thank you for reading this!
Please send it forward!!

Next post will be my choices for Athlete's of the Year, etc etc for my four core groups--World, US, Collegiate, and HS--for the INdoor season just past!!

See you soon!

NBIN Shakes Things Up A Bit

To say the least!!
I mean, who woulda thunk Athing Mu could lose--to a freaking Freshman, no less??
And who woulda believed that 2:09 girl Katelyn Tuohy would go out in 63.7 on her DMR leg??
And what about the LARGE presence of Morgan SMALLS??
I mean, JEEZ, these High Schoolers just don't mess around!

In a meet I opine was FAR better and definitely filled with more thrills than the NCAA's, we saw 7 Meet Records fall, with one of them a tie!!

The American Record holding (in the 600) Athing Mu was considered a shoo-in for the 800 title, and a serious threat to Ajee Wilson's American Record!
She was going to run this alone, with no Professional elites to charge her engine, but who needs the Pro's when you have such a massive talent ready to get it on??!!
Hitting the first 200 in 28 high, she gave hints that this was NOT going to be her day--snoring through the 400 in the 61's!
Okay, so any chance at a HSR, or an AR were gone, but she'd still win, right??
Right???
Tell that to FRESHMAN Roisin Willis, who used a startling kick over the final straight to pass Mu at the line,!!
Getting the Frosh Class Record with her 2:05.70, she is now 9th A-T HS!!
Mu's 2:05.86 was disappointing to her, but her post-race statement showed what a class act she is!!
It will be interesting to see them re-matched--OUTdoors!!

Bailey Googins also came close to beating Mu, as her 2:06.10 makes her 13th A-T HS!
Michaela Rose ran 2:06.90 in 4th, making her 21st A-T HS!

Cut FROM my HS list was one Mary Cain, her 2:07.26 from 2012 now GONE!!

The other expectant Record breaker--Katelyn Tuohy--had a interesting lead-up to her Two Mile race on Sunday!
A couple of days earlier, she took the anchor leg of North Rockland's DMR squad to new heights.
But NOT with her final split time of 4:41.9!
No, it was her opening 400 of 63.7 that made me bug-eyed!
And when she hit the 800 point in 2:13, I thought we'd see a sub-4:30 leg!
But she erred in going so fast so early, and faded to 74's the rest of the way!
Admitting after her Deuce that she had "lactic acid" from her DMR leg, Record expectations waned a bit!
Nonetheless, running much more even splits, she hit the first Mile in 4:51.
While she could have negative split the race to beat Mary Cain's 9:38.68, Tuohy isn't known for negative split races!
But she powered on--lactic acid notwithstanding, and finished in 9:51.05--just 4 or 5 seconds faster than she split in her 15:37.12 5000 in 2018!

Tuohy moves from 6th A-T HS to 2nd, and gets the NBIN Meet Record!
Let me clarify something about that MR!
The announcer said the MR was 9:56.06!
My Record Book carries the Record as Melody Fairchild's 9:55.92 from 1991!
The reason being that in 1991, the meet had a different name!
But it was the same meet as today, just a different sponsor and name!
Just as Footlocker XC was known as the Kinney XC many years ago!!
But Tuohy didn't care about which Record she broke!
Enroute, she split 9:10.78 at 3000, nabbing Fairchild's other MR of 9:17.4!

Second was Katelynn Hart, who dipped into the 9's with her 9:58.42!
This makes her 6th A-T HS!
Her 9:17.83 at 3K makes her 5th A-T HS!
In 3rd came Sydney Thorvildson's 10:01.52, making her 8th A-T HS!
Her 9:21.76 split makes her 12th A-T HS!

Morgan Smalls was almost as ubiquitous as Grant Holloway was at the NCAA's!
But it was her HJ that made heads turn!
While the Women's HJ has seen an excellent resurgence this year--with 4 over 6 feet, no one saw Smalls's 6-3.25 coming!!
She initially PR'ed at 6-0.75, then at 6:2.25, and finally at 6-3.25!
This makes her 2nd only to the legendary Vashti Cunningham, and gives great promise to the future of US Women's HJ'ing!
She gets the NBIN Meet Record, and the Junior Class Record!
She moves from 4th A-T HS, tied with 2 others, to 2nd!
And misses the US list by a mere quarter inch!!

A pair of Relay Records fell!
Both by the same team--the Jungle TC!
They kicked things off by cutting 1.77 seconds off the DMR mark, using a 4:06 anchor by Sam Affolder to run 9:54.41!
Using yet another 4:06 in the 4 X Mile (NOT 4 X 1600!!), they cut it VERY close, but cut it indeed, their 17:01.81 nailing their own Record by one hundredth of a second!!
Both marks of course set new NBIN Meet Records as well!!

The Women's Mile saw a squeaker--to say the least!
Separated by a hair or two, Taryn Parks produced a slight upset by nipping favored Marlee Starliper at the line, both timed in 4:39.05!
Parks is now 6th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
That "other" is Stsrliper, who moves from 12th A-T HS to 6th, but tied with Parks!

Victoria Starcher was a quick 3rd, her 4:40.63 making her 12th A-T HS!
Even 4th placer Zofia Dudek got onto my list, her 4:44.88 making her the caboose on my list!
Their 1500 splits also produced some list changers!
Starliper led at the 1500, her 4:20.55 moving her from 8th to 6th on my HS DDD!
Parks was at 4:21.34 at the 1500, making her 7th A-T HS!
Starcher's 4:21.91 makes her 8th A-T HS!
And Dudek's 4:25.47 makes her 22nd A-T HS!!

Jasmine Moore had an outstanding meet, winning both of the Horizontals!
Her LJ win took just 20-9.25, but it moves her from 13th A-T HS to 10th!
Taking 2nd was Synthia Savage, her 20-5 making her 19th A-T HS, tied with 4 others!
A Ms Seaman--first name unknown at this time, also hit 20-5, thus making her also 19th A-T HS, tied with 4 others!

But it was in her signature event--the TJ--that she really shone!
Her 44-2 tied the Meet Record, and moved her from 6th A-T HS to 2nd, where she's tied with---(Trumpets, please!!) Keturah Orji!
Classy company!!

And it was Morgan Smalls in 2nd, her 41-9.50 missing the HS list by one quarter inch!
She ALSO LJ'ed 19-11.50!
Is a Pentathlon in her future--and a Heptathlon OUTdoors??

While not a HSR, Anna Hall's winning Pentathlon mark of 4209 did make her the NBIN Meet Record holder!
And while she won by 469 (!!!) points, this event produced quite a deep set of quality marks!
Chloe Rice's 3740 makes her 7th A-T HS!
Jade Johnson scored 3735 points to make her 9th A-T HS!
Alaina Brady's 3682 makes her 15th A-T HS!
And Brianna Smith's 3667 makes her 19th A-T HS!!

The shorter races produced a few good times, and a surprise or two!
In the Men's 60H, the favored Kurt Powdar False-Started, and was out!
But Sincere (!!) Rhea sped a 7.69, to show how sincere (Sic!) his effort was!!
This makes him 17th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Sincerely so!
LOL

Brianna Williams made her presence known, but her winning 60 time of 7.28 wasn't as fast as I thought possible!
Of course, she's new to INdoor track, and is much better at the OUTdoor distances!
Her time makes her 13th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
Thelma Davies gave Williams a race, hitting the line in 7.30, making her 17th A-T HS, tied with 6 others!

Another big name--Tamari Davis--won the 200 in 23.24, tying her PR, and thus remaining 6th A-T HS!!

The Women's 60H had a good set of marks!
Shadajah Ballard ran 8.11 for the W, and is now 5th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Jasmin Jones was 2nd in 8.22, but it's not a PR!
Aasia Laurencia ran faster in the heats--her 8.25 there making her 19th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Jasmin Tilman ran 8:28 in the heats, making her 22nd A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Alia Armstrong ran 8:32 in the final, making her 23rd A-T HS!!

Just as I said was possible in my blog's Preview, WT specialist Monique Hardy added a  couple of feet to her PR, her 64-7.50 winner moving her from 6th A-T HS to 4th!

Micah Williams came through the tape first in the 60, his 6.60 moving him from 9th A-T HS, tied with 6 others, to 3rd!
Mario Heslop took the 200 in 20.90, the season's first (and only!) sub-21!
He moves from 12th A-T HS, tied with 3 others, to 4th!!
Justin Robinson took the Men's 400 in 46.55, moving from 9th A-T HS to 5th!
In 2nd came Ashton Allen's 46.99, making him 15th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

The Women's 400 was a good one also!
Kimberly Harris sped the two laps in 52.62, moving her from 23rd to 6th on the A-T HS list!
Britton Wilson's 52.72 moves her from 11th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 7th!

The Men's TJ produced some unexpected list changes!
Justin Forde improved to 51-3, moving him from 18th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 17th, also tied with 1 other!
Christin Alexon's 50-10 makes him 22nd A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

The Men's Mile was a goody!
Jake Renfree's 4:06.39 makes him 9th A-T HS!
Cole Sprout ended 2nd in 4:06.68, making him 13th A-T HS!
And Nick Foster's 4:07.18 makes him 18th A-T HS!
As the Armory always does in Mile races, they provide official splits at 1500 meters!
Renfree's 3:50.49 makes him 10th A-T HS!
Sprout's 3:50.75 makes him 12th A-T HS!
And Foster's 3:51.72 makes him 23rd A-T HS!

Other key NBIN results---
Max Hanson's 17-5.50 in the Men's PV makes him 17th A-T HS!
In the Women's event, Karli Thompson's 13-6.25 makes her 23rd A-T HS, tied with 2 others!!

Aiden Felty's 66-8.75 in the Men's SP beat Tripp Piperi's brother Pat's 66-3.75!!
Trey Knight threw far enough for an easy win, his WT measuring 80 feet even!

In the Men's Two Mile, Devin Hart's 3K split of 8:25.45 makes him the caboose on that list!

The 5000's---especially the Women's--were FAR below NBIN's high standards of excellence!
After all, the Women broke the HSR there 7 years running--pardon the pun--from 2011 to 2017!!
This year??
The winning time of 17:11.47 was the slowest in too many years to remember!!
(Forever??)
Her name was Noelle Adrioens!
So this time the Men prevailed, getting a couple of new names on my list!
Carter Cheeseman's 14:40.01 makes him 13th A-T HS!
He was followed closely by Corey Corgas's 14:40.75, which makes him 14th A-T
HS!!

Overall, enough elite HS level Records and Marks to satisfy even this most jaded fan!

And guess what??
It's time this blog switches to the OUTdoor season!!
But first I'll do my usual AOY picks for INdoors!
Hopefully, I'll do all that in the net week or two!!

Before I close, just in is a report of a 29-3 LJ OUTdoors in Cuba by Juan Echevarias!!
It'had a wind of 3.3, but it was the first 29 footer under any conditions in many years!!
A HUGE improvement over his INdoor marks this season!!

See you soon!

NCAA---Sparks of Glory

The fans and cameras might have come for Mondo, but eyes were turned around by The Grant Holloway Show!

Sure, Mondo Duplantis won the PV, but it seemed Holloway won everything else!
And none of his four events was more spectacular than the 60H!

When he broke the Meet Record in his heats--a 7.44--we could see better things ahead!
But never did we see an American Record!
Despite hitting a hurdle hard, Holloway recovered and ran a perfect race to the tape, the clock stopping at 7.35!
Even though Daniel Roberts also ran faster than the Collegiate  Record, Holloway had some space to breathe!
Besides the AR, he also got the NCAA Meet Record, the Collegiate Record, and the Junior Class Record!
He moved from 10th A-T US to 1st, and from 18th A-T World, tied with 1 other, to 3rd!!

Roberts's 7.41 continued his amazing improvement this season!
He moved fom 4th A-T Collegiate to 2nd!
From 20th A-T US, tied with 2 others, to 10th, tied with 1 other!
And he becomes 14th A-T World, tied with 5 others!!

As for Mondo, he fell short of the Collegiate Record, but his 19-1.50 easily prevailed over a quality field!
Chris Nilsen and Jake Wooten finished 2nd and 3rd, both clearing 18-9.50!
Wooten moves from 14th A-T Collegiate to 13th, tied with 1 other!

Payton Otterdahl PR'ed slightly in the WT, hitting 79-1.25 for the win!
He remains 4th A-T Collegiate. and 13th A-T US
But he moves from 15th A-T World to 14th!
Adam Kelly threw the ball and chain 76-8.25, becoming 22nd A-T Collegiate!

Otterdahl misses the MR in the SP by a bit more than an inch, but his 71-2.25 prevailed over a big PR by Adrian (Tripp) Piperi!
He reached 68-10, making him 21st A-T Collegiate!

The Men's 400 was both a blazer up front, and had some depth!
But the winner's name was a bit of a shock!
Tyrell Richard upset the pre-meet favorites, blasting the 2 laps in 44.82!
He moves from 23rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others, to 4th!
He becomes 4th A-T US, and 5th A-T World!

Kahmari Montgomery took 2nd in 45.03, which was an 0.01 seconds improvement!
He moves from 10th A-T Collegiate to 8th, tied with 2 others!
He moves from 9th A-T US to 8th, tied with 1 other!
And moves from 13th A-T World to 11th, tied with 2 others!
Wil London ran 45.18 for 3rd, making him 12th A-T Collegiate!
He moves from 13th A-T US to 10th, tied with 1 other!
And from 21st A-T World to 20th, tied with 1 other!
Quincy Hall's 45.25 in 4th makes him 14th A-T Collegiate, and 16th A-T US!!

The distances were frustrating!
While a few marks changed my lists, the main theme of the races from 800 to 5000 was strategize, strategize, and strategize!!

The best race was the Women's 5000!
Alicia Monson kicked to victory in 15:31.26!
She moves from 24th A-T Collegiate to 19th!
Weini Kelati took 2nd in 15:32.96, with Fiona O'Keefe in 3rd, timed in 15:37.81.

Morgan McDonald didn't set the track on fire, timewise, but he won the 3000 and 5000 with a deceptively easy looking kick!
Times were about 7:52 and 13:41.

The Distance Medley Relays were good also, but the times showed the way teams had it easier qualifying on various Oversize Tracks, than they had it in Alabama!

The Women's race went to Oregon, with Jessica Hull bringing the Ducks to the line in 10:53.43!
BYU was a bit of a surprise in 2nd, their time being 10:54.14!
They move from 11th A-T School to 7th!

Even more surprising was Oklahoma State!
Their 10:55.04 moves them from 24th A-T School all the way to 10th!!
Villanova was 4th in 10:56.04, while Arkansas took 5th in 10:56.85!

The Men's race saw Notre Dame's 9:31.55 edging Stanford's 9:31,70, despite Grant Fisher's 3:54 anchor!

In the Men's 800, Devin Dixon led through 400 in the 51's, following through on his intention to try to break the Collegiate Record!
But he faded, leaving it to Bryce Hoppel to take the W in 1:46.46!
This makes him 20th A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!

Danae Rivers took the Women's 800 in a slow 2:03.69!
Jessica Hull sprinted to a 9:01.14 W in the 3000!
The other distance times are too embarrassing to even mention!

The Multi's were good, with Michelle Atherley improving by 49 points, her 4547 score moving her from 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, to 7th!
Jordan Gray surprised in 2nd, her 4412 points making her 15th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Harrison Williams took the Men's Heptathlon with 6042 points!
He becomes 17th A-T Collegiate, and 22nd A-T US!!

The Women's PV winner was no shock, as Lexi Jacobus made 15-1.50, the only 15 footer!
But Bonnie Draxler closed in on that barrier, her 14-11.50 moving her from 10th A-T Collegiate to 8th!
Tori Hoggard and Desiree Freier were 3rd and 4th, both clearing 14-7.50!
But it was a slight PR for Freier, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!

Sade Olatoye is the latest Woman to reach 80 feet in the WT!
Her 80-3 moves her from 8th A-T Collegiate to 3rd!!
And she moves from 12th A-T World to 7th!

In 2nd, though far back with a 73-11.50, Makenna Forrest becomes 19th A-T Collegiate,and 22nd A-T US!
Third went to Taylor Scaife's 73-10!
She becomes 22nd A-T Collegiate, and 23rd A-T US, tied with 1 other!

Samantha Noening took the Women's SP with a lob of 58-9.25, making her 22nd A-T Collegiate!
She edged Nena Geiger's 58-8.50, making her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Other NCAA marks of note---
In the Women's 60H heats, Payton Chadwick won in 7.93, tying her PR!
Kayla White sped a 7.94, making her 17th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!
However, Chanel Brissett took the final in 7.90.
White improved to 7.92, moving her from 17th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others, to 11th, tied with 1 other!
Speaking of Ms White, she shocked some by taking the 200 in 22.66, the fastest Collegiate tome of the season!
This makes her 21st A-T Collegiate, and 20th A-T US!

Kaelin Roberts finally got the 1st sub-52 time in the 400 for Collegiates, her 51.50 making her 20th A-T Collegiate, and 24th A-T US!
Twanisha Terry took the 60, her 7.14 making her 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 4 others!
Yanis David took the women's TJ with 46-0.50, but it was 2nd placer Chaquinn Cook's 45-4.50 that made her 16th A-T Collegiate!!

The HJ's were taken by Zarria Willow's 6-1.50, and Shelby McEwen's 7-6!
Jasmin Steely and Deborah Ailah both LJ'ed 21-2.50, with Steely winning!
South Carolina won the Women's 4X400 Relay in 3:30.76!!
Georgia showed they're gaining track power, taking 4th in 3:31.05, moving them from 19th A-T School to 16th!

But it was truly the Grant Holloway Show!
Besides his fantastic 60H, he also took the flat 60 in a 6.50 PR!
He moves from 10th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others, to 8th, tied with 2 others!
And he becomes 24th A-T US, tied with 4 others!
The LJ saw him leap 26-1, but he placed just 3rd to Rayvon Gray's 26-1.75!!
He had to leave after 3 jumps to get ready for another of his 4 events!

All in all, not the greatest NCAA meet, but Holloway and Mondo made it a bit more entertaining!!

Two non-Collegiate items to report!
The Gate River 15K Road race served as the USATF Championship!
Shadrack Kipchirchir won it in 43:41, but had a real battle with 2nd placer Stan Kebenai, who got the same time, and Len Korir, who ended a second back!
Erica Kemp had it much easier on the Women's side, running 50:54  for the win!!

And we have a WORLD Record!!
China's Liu Hong took the Women's 50000 meter Walk under the 4 hour barrier!
Her 3:59:15 is the new World Record, and China's National Record!!
Just to compare, it's been a long time (15 years??) since a US Man broke 4 hours!!

See you soon with my NBIN report!
