More of Lightning Strikes

A bit of truth-telling.
The MAIN reason I chose to end the first part when I did was due to a health scare.
I was feeling a bit light-headed, and when it didn't go away, I decided to try sleeping it away.
Thus, I ended the report on Pre when I did.
My apologies.
But now I'm feeling good, so here's the rest of my report.

Keturah Orji had a windy 47-11 Triple Jump at the SEC meet.
Her best legal jump then had been over 16 inches less.
Well, she's taken care of that discrepancy a bit.
This rarity--an American TJ'er who just might become World Class--has moved into even more rare territory--that of holder of the Collegiate Record!!

Orji leaped an outstanding 46-10.75 at the East "Regionals" or "Prelims" or whatever, to become the very best Collegiate TJ'er in history!
It's also the Collegiate Soph Class record.
She moved from 4th A-T Collegiate to the top rung!
She also moved from 7th to 5th A-T US!!

Another Collegiate Soph Class record came unexpectedly from Maggie Ewen in the Hammer Throw, as she threw it out to 231-3!!
Just when I thought DeAnna Price would have that event all to herself at the NCAA's, here comes Ewen with her huge improvement!
She suddenly becomes 6th A-T Collegiate!
She's also 15th A-T US, tied with 1 other!

Ebony Morrison had never broken 13 seconds in the 100H.
She has now!
Her 12.76 (1.3 wind) makes her 23rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Oh, it does something else too.
It takes OFF my Collegiate DDD one Ms Lolo Jones, her 12.77 dating from 2004!!

"Prelim" distance races aren't normally fast.
(In fact, neither are Championship distance races, but that's a whole other story!)
Well, tell that to Marta Freitos.
She led the 1500 field with her 4:09.80, which makes her 16th A-T Collegiate!!

There were lots of other solid performances at those "whatchamacallits".
Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake ran a windy (3.6) 19.96 in the 200.
In another heat, but also windy (4.3), Brendon Rodney ran 19.97!
Brandon McBride sped a non-PR 800 time of 1:44.89.
Donovan Brazier had run the same distance in 1:46.53.
Devon Allen was fastest at 110H, time of 13.37.
Jamiel Trimble's surprising 20.12 in the 200 leaves him just 0.03 from my Collegiate DDD list!
He beat Jarrion Lawson's 20.17.
Deajah Stevens also came within 0.03 of the Collegiate list with her 22.48 in the 200.
Felicia Brown also ran 22.48.
Autumne Franklin ran the 400H in 55.12.
She's just 0.13 shy of the Collegiate list!
Hannah Cunliffe led the 100 with her 11.13, but it had an aiding wind of 3.0.
Courtney Okolo's 51.06 took the 400 over Chrisann Gordon's 51.39.
The Women's 4X400 Relay produced some good times!
Arkansas ran 3:25.48, moving them from 8th A-T School to 4th!
Texas was next with a 3:25.59.
Then came USC, their 3:26.73 moving them from 14th A-T School to 9th!
Stephen F Austin, of all schools, saw their Men run a School record time of 3:03.56.

A couple of distance Women had good doubles.
Not so much with their times, but just in making it to NCAA's!
The best Freshman woman at Boise State was supposed to be Allie Ostrander, but she's been injured.
That left it to Brenna Peloquin to lead the Bison team.
She goes to Eugene in 2 weeks, thanks to her 34:25.45 and 16:09.14 in the 10000 and 5000.
Also going there will be Lauren LaRocco of Portland.
If you remember, she made vast improvements at the Payton Jordan and Hoka One One meets.
Her times of 34:25.40 and 16:21.09 send her to Eugene as well.

Courtney Frerichs cruised her 3000SC in 9:51.48.
Elinor Purrier ran 9:53.22, leading another 8 women under 10 minutes in the East race!
Mason Ferlic's 8:29.77 wasn't a PR, but easily led the men!
Nick Miller threw the Hammer 252-4.
(As noted in my first Pre meet report, he threw there too!!)
BTW, that mark moves him from 13th A-T Collegiate to 7th, tied with 1 other.
Nikki Okwelogu led the East Women in the Shot Put (Raven Saunders was 3rd!), throwing 58-9.25.
This makes her 23rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
I mentioned a Ms Orji earlier!
Well, she also led the LJ, leaping 21-8.75 INTO a wind of 0.4!!
Anima Banks and Hanna Green ran good 800's, times of 2:02.49 and 2:02.69.
Shakima Wimbley ran the 400 in 51.26.

These Collegiate whatever's are almost as interesting for who FAILS to qualify for NCAA's as it is for those who do!
The list is long!
Here's the most prominent, IMHO.

From the East, you will NOT see (in Eugene)---
Liv Westphal (13th in 5000)
Sarah Collins (19th in the 10K)
Ryan Clark (13th in 200)
Megan Moye (DNF in 1500)
Robby Creese (24th in 1500)
Andres Arroyo (1:48.61 in the 800 didn't make it!)
But maybe the most shocking in the running events was Kyra Jefferson's 23.18 in 19th not making it in the 200!!
In Field events, Raven Saunders made it in the SP, but not in the Discus Throw, her 170-10 in 13th falling a bit short!
Leontia Kallenou's 5-7.25 in the HJ--nope!
Neither did Nicole Green make it with her 13th in the HJ.
Shelby Ashe had 3 fouls in the Hammer Throw!
Jessie Johnson reached 13-5.25 in the PV, but failed to qualify!

The West meet had its share of "name" non-qualifiers too!
Audie Wyatt no-heighted in the PV!
Paulo Benavides and Mackenzie Shell were two other Vaulters who didn't make it, reaching only 16-10 and 13-6.25, respectively!

Brianna Nerud's 10:40.44 fell well short in the 3000SC.
Molly Grabill was 13th in the 10000, and 21st in the 5000.
John Dressel was 13th in the 5K, as was Bethan Knights in her 5000.
Ashley Maton (Matthew's sister) didn't make it in the 1500.
Neither did Nikki Hiltz or Maddie Meyers.
Meyers also didn't make it in the 5000!
Collins Kibet was a shocker non-Q man in the 800.
Aldrich Bailey failed to Q in the 400.
Teahna Daniels, winner of the NCAA INdoor 60, was 13th in the 100.
But once again, the "honors" for BIGGEST name to fail belongs to Hannah Cunliffe, whose 23.30 in the 200 was just 16th!!
(She did make it in the 100, however!  See above!)

Now back to the Profeshes at the Prefontaine Classic.

Boris Berian, proudly displaying his New Balance jersey on enemy Nike's home turf, took the 800 with his 1:44.20!
Three others--Ferguson Rotich, Mo Aman, and Adam Kszczot--all finished at sub-1:45.

Kirani James and LaShawn Merritt had another "CLASSIC" duel, with James again edging out his main foe, 44.22 to 44.39.

Vashti Cunningham couldn't quite get it together, her 6-3.50 in the HJ taking just 5th, with 3-time Mom Chaunte Lowe taking the win with her 6-4.75..

Egypt's Ihab Abdelrahman threw the Javelin 286-7 to set a new Meet Record!

Christian Taylor also got a Pre Meet Record, his TJ measuring 58-3.25.

Renaud Lavillenie was able to beat Shawn Barber (and Sam Kendricks), but his & Barber's 19-0.75 failed to impress.

Omar McLeod took the 110H in 13.06.
Michael Tinsley took the 400H in 48.74.

Shaunae Miller beat Fran McCorory in the 400, 50.15 to 50.23.
In 7th was Sanya Richards-Ross's 52.39!

Field event wins went to--
Joe Kovacs in the SP--72-7.25
Pawel Fajdek's 263-5 in the HT, with Collegian Nick Miller taking 6th!
Sandra Perkovic in the DT--an "average" 224-11
Brittney Reese's first LJ measured 22-8.50, enough to hold off Ivana Spanovic's 22-7.

In the HS 400's Sammy Watson took the Women's race in 53.21.
The Men's race saw Keshun Reed run  46.71, while Freshman Brian Herron ran 47.24 in 3rd!

Alysia Montano won her 800 battle, her 2:00.78 outlasting Kate Grace's 2:01.15.
Laura Roesler finished 7th in 2:02.27.

In other news---some of it from a week or so ago---some good HS marks.

Jordan Geist is moving ever closer to a HSR most experts--and most anyone who follows the sport---feel will NEVER be broken--namely Michael Carter's other-worldly 81-3.50 SP with the 12 pound ball.
His latest attack landed 74-3 from the ring.
It breaks his own Junior Class record.
And it moves him one spot on the All Time HS list, from 7th to 6th!
And please key in on those 2 words---Junior Class!
Yes, he has the rest of this year, and all of next, to make Mr Carter a bit jittery!

Kathleen Young's 51-9 SP mark misses my HS DDD list by less than 2 inches!
Joy McArthur is suddenly a good Hammer Thrower.
Her 193-3 is good for 9th A-T HS.
Marcus Krah's 13.32 in the 110H makes him 4th A-T HS, tied with 1 other.

Then there's young Ewe Zwoboda (She turns 19 on July 26th!).
Her latest 100 PR of 11.18 had a legal wind of 1.2.

From some earlier European meets come these marks---
Anita Wlodarczyk threw the Hammer 260-9.
Julia Fischer PR'ed in the Discus Throw with a pretty fair 224-9!
Lijao Gong had a SP mark of 67-0.50.
In the Rabat DL, Ekaterina Stefanidi's PV measure of 15-7 moves her from 21st A-T World, tied with 1 other, to 19th, tied with 2 others.
And from Hengelo, Elroy Gelant ran the 5000 in 13:04.98 for the National Record of South Africa!
He was 4th in that race.

From the Russian Team Championships come these marks--
Anzhelika Sidorova PV'ed 15-3
She missed 3 attempts at 15-9!
Sergey Shubenkov ran 110H in 13.24.

Also, Yelena Isinbayeva announced that if the ban on Russia is lifted, she will take part in a couple of meets before the Russian Olympic Trials!

As my readers know, I unabashedly support the lifting of the ban.
Ban the CRIMINALS, not the INNOCENT!!
No nation, no matter the size of its list of guilty, should be banned, taking with it its innocent, even if it's just a few handfuls!!

Kim Collins won a 100 race today in 9.93, breaking his Age 40 record by a massive 0.16 seconds!
This makes him not only the first man Age 40 or over to break 10 seconds, but it's the fastest by anyone over Age 34!!

Katerina Johnson-Thompson, aka KJT, just can't seem to join together her potential with her final Heptathlon point total!
If she did, she'd surely (IMO) score 7000 or more points!
As it was in the Gotzis Multis, she was 9 points ahead of her pace when she hit her PR (in the 2014 Gotzis!) of 6682.
Then came the LJ!
We all know of her disastrous LJ in the Beijing WC's!
Well, here she had 2 measured jumps, but the furthest was just 6.17.
She's capable of going 7 meters!
So her score of 6304 gave her just 6th place, after she was a close 2nd to eventual winner Brianne Thiesen-Eaton after the 1st day.
BTE's winning total was a non-PR--but solid--6765.
Laura Ikauniece-Admidina scored 6622 in 2nd, breaking her own National Record of Latvia!
Carolin Schafer's 6557 took 3rd!
In the Decathlon, Damian Warner opened with an incredible 100 time of 10.15!!
Legal wind!
But while he couldn't sustain that pace, he did win, point total of 8523 enough to defeat Kevin Mayer's 8446.
The 1st day leader was American Jeremy Taiwo, but he too couldn't finish at that level, ending in 4th with a non-PR total of 8203.

One last item of note!
Jasmine Todd has left the University of Oregon team!!
(But maybe not the UO itself!)
She was a DNS in the West qualifier.
Then she tweeted that "due to unforeseen circumstances", she was ending her UO T&F career!
She said it was NOT injury related!
There's a thread on this woman's decision on the T&FN Message Board!
BTW, does this mean Todd is turning Pro---like tomorrow??
Another Oregon sprinter who MIGHT turn Pro--after the NCAA meet!--is Hannah Cunliffe!!
You heard it here first!
LOL

And that is that!!
See you soon!

Lightning Strikes Across USA--Part 1

Oh, how I love punning!
I also love Running (& jumping & throwing things).
Lucky for you (?), you're getting a dose of both!
For all across these great United States of America, lightning did indeed strike!
It struck--literally!!--in Kansas, causing several delays, postponements, and cancellations at the West version of the NCAA whatchamacallits.
But it also struck--on the Tracks and Fields of Jacksonville, Florida (at the East version of those whatchamacallits), and in Eugene, Oregon at the Records-smashing Prefontaine Classic!

Emma Coburn broke her own---Yes, I said Emma Coburn broke HER OWN---American Record in the 3000 meter Steeplechase!
You know the story.
In 2014, summer of, Emma broke Jenny Simpson's AR of 9:12.50 with a great and powerful time of 9:11.42.
She was so thrilled that she left the stadium without having been tested for drugs.
The DIS-organization known as USATF had installed a rule stating that any AR breaker needed to be drug tested for their record to be ratified.
The IAAF, meanwhile, had a rule that only the winner (Emma placed 2nd!) and another athlete from the event would get tested.
She wasn't selected, so left the stadium to celebrate her new record!
Then, a few months later, USATF says it wouldn't ratify her time as the AR because she hadn't been tested!
Sides were taken, with myself (and this blog) siding with Coburn, saying she'd broken Simpson's record, and would be honored and respected as the holder of the 3000SC American Record for Women!

Thus, when Emma sprinted across the line (in 3rd place), and the clock stopped at 9:10.76, Emma Coburn broke HER OWN American Record--pure and simple, USATF be damned!!

She remains 13th A-T World.

But what a battle for first!
Hyvin Kiyeng had run 9:07 recently, while teenager Ruth Jebet ran the Age 19 record time of 9:15.
With a lap to go, Jebet had moved ahead, and kept widening the gap approaching the final curve.
Then Kiyeng sprinted, and you could see the gap closing, until, coming out of the last water pit, there was just a step between them!
Into the straight, over the final hurdle, Kiyeng was at Jebet's side, and the sprint was on!
At the tape, Jebet's 8:59.97 had edged Kiyeng's 9:00.01 for the greatest ever finish to a Women's SC--or maybe any race!!

Jebet broke her own Age 19 record (by almost 16 seconds!!).
It's the Prefontaine Meet Record.
It breaks her own National Record of Bahrain.
She moves from 21st A-T World to 2nd!

Kiyeng gets the best-ever 2nd Place record!
She broke her own Age 24 record.
It's the National Record of Kenya.
She moves from 9th A-T World to 3rd.

Beatrice Chepkoech's 9:17.41 in 4th misses my World DDD by 0.47 seconds!
Sofia Assefa was 5th in 9:18.16.
Then came American Leah O'Connor, who ran 9:18.85, moving her from 14th A-T US all the way to 3rd!!
Just Coburn and Simpson are faster!
Back in 10th place, Genevieve LaLonde's 9:32.13 became Canada's new National Record!
Ashley Higginson's 9:33.08 finished ahead of Virginia Nyambura's 9:36.09!

Also over hurdles--ten of them, of the thinner 33 inch variety, and no water pit--sped Kendra Harrison!
It took her just 12.24 seconds to speed down the Hayward Field track, setting a new American Record in the 100H, ending Brianna Rollins's brief 3 year reign!
And coming within 0.03 of the now-questionable 12.21 World Record of Yordanka Donkova, set in 1988.
With no one really close--Rollins was 2nd in 12.53--Harrison (and the sold out crowd) was stunned when she saw the time--and was told it was wind-legal!!
Besides the AR, it also gives her the Age 23 record, and the Meet Record!
She moves from 5th A-T US to the top rung.
And she moves from 9th A-T World all the way to 2nd!!
Jasmin Stowers finished in 12.55 behind Rollins, with super-vet Dawn Harper-Nelson ending up last in 13.01.

The Women's 1500 also saw a Prefontaine Meet Record fall!
Faith Kipyegon--who had already run a 3:56 this year--broke her own National Record of Kenya with her 3:56.41, in addition to the MR.
She's now 21st A-T World.
And she improves her standing on two of my Combined Events lists!
On the Combined Events 1500 & 3000 list, her total time of 12:19.96 (3:56.41 plus 8:23.55) moves her from 9th place to 8th.
On the Combined Events 1500 & 5000 list, her total time of 18:28.36 (3:56.41 plus 14:31.95) moves her up one spot, from 8th to 7th!

Dawit Seyaum finished in a solid 3:58.10, two seconds in front of Gudaf Tsegay's 4:00.18.
Jenny Simpson played it safe, moving up at the end to a 4:01.57, which just beat Australian Linden Hall, who ran a PR of 4:01.78!
Brenda Martinez finished in 8th, time of 4:03.57, two places ahead of AR holder Shannon Rowbury's 4:04.85.
Treniere Moser and Alexa Efraimson ended in 11th & 12th, a few seconds slower, but still under 4:09!
But the real American story of the race was Shelby Houlihan's spectacular 6 second PR time of 4:03.39 in 7th!
She becomes 18th A-T US, tied with 1 other--who just happens to be Ms Efraimson!!

The 3 Pre sprint races were--er, lightning quick!

Tori Bowie had the Beijing WC 1-2 of Dafne Schippers and Elaine Thompson to deal with.
And deal with them she did!!
When the curve straightened out, Bowie had a small lead, with the muscular Schippers pounding out her lengthy strides, with Thompson on her other side also in contention.
Then Bowie used her 10.80 afterburners to help her disappear, with her 21.99 beating the WC pair by almost two tenths, Times of 22.11 and 22.16 for the Dutch and Jamaican!
For Bowie, it was a big PR, and makes her 23rd A-T US, tied with 3 others!
Jenna Prandini finished well back in 4th, time of 22.61.
The HS PRO Kaylin Whitney found out what racing against adults was all about, her 23.17 in 6th still finishing ahead of Kim Duncan and Candyce McGrone!!

English Gardner came home--again!
The former Duck darling is STILL a darling of the Duck faithful, who cheered vociferously when Gardner sped across the line in 10.81, just 0.02 from her PR!
It was really no contest, even though Tianna Bartoletta ran 10.94 in 2nd.
Murielle Ahoure ran 11.01, with 36 year old Carmelita Jeter's 11.16 beating the wounded toe'd Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce's 11.18.

In the Men's 100, wind took away the legality of Justin Gatlin's 9.88.
As well as Asefa Powell's 9.94 in 2nd, Tyson Gay's 9.98 in 3rd, and Andre De Grasse's 10.05 back in 8th--and last!!

As I'd suggested in my massive Pre meet Preview post, High Schoolers stole the thunder from the more-renowned (and a whole bunch faster) Professionals in the two Mile races, the National and the Bowerman!
Michael Slagowski tried, but failed to PR, yet still broke 4 minutes in the National race, his 3:59.78 finishing ahead of Leo Manzano's 4:00.27 back in 4th & 5th!
In 6th came Austin Tamagno, who couldn't quite get there, his 4:01.04 still a two second PR.
Tamagno is now 12th A-T HS.
Charlie Grice of Great Britain won this race in 3:52.64!
He's just 22 years old!

In the Bowerman race, Drew Hunter never was close to Alan Webb's HSR, and ended up last, yet still got an OUTdoor sub-4 time of 3:58.86!
He moves from 20th A-T HS to 3rd!
Ahead of him came the winner, Asbel Kiprop, said to look bored as he crossed the line in 3:51.54.
Abdelaati Iguider's 3:51.96 ended 2nd, while in 7th & 8th came American's Ben Blankenship and Evan Jager, BB's 3:53.83 an OUTdoor PR!

The 3 longest races produced deep finishes & fast times.
Leading off was the Women's 5000, where Helen Obiri tore apart her PR.
Her winning time was 14:32.02, which makes her 23rd A-T World!
Also, she takes over 10th place on my Combined Events list for the 1500 and 5000.
Her times of 3:57.05 added to the 14:32.02 gives her a total time of 18:29.07.

The V-chips were next, Viola Kibiwot ending 2nd in 14:35.13, ahead of Vivian Cheruiyot's 14:35.68.
Mercy Cherono continued the Kenyan dominance, her 14:37.08 taking 4th.
Molly Huddle ran a solid 14:48.14, never really close to American record pace!
She ended in 11th, with Betsy Saina in 8th and Sally Kipyego in 7th in 14:44 territory!

Mo Farah took the 10000 in 26:53.91, again failing to take control and move the pace along at a desired PR tempo after the rabbits took him through 5000 in 13:23.
He did get the Age 33 record, however!
But he had lots of company!
Unknown William Sitonik gave Mo some battle, but lost despite running 26:54.66.
Tammat Tola (26:57.33), Stephen Sambu (26:58.25), and Ibrahim Jelan (26:58.75) all broke 27 minutes, with Zerzenay Tadese just missing at 27:00.66.
Eric Jenkins was top American, with a Trials qualifying time of 27:48.92.

The 5000 was also deep and fairly fast.
Muktar Edris beat Geoff Kamworor, 12:59.43 to 12:59.98.

Mo Ahmed destroyed his own National Record of Canada, his 13:01.74 taking 3rd.
Hassan Mead was top American, his 13:04.17 in 6th not a PR.
Ben True finished 11th, while Bernard Lagat, in his final track race at Hayward Field, was a DNF, due to a cold!

There's lots more to tell--from Pre, and from Kansas and Florida (and elsewhere)--but due to length, I'll end this here, and continue my tale in another post!
I may wait a day---or most of a day---as I want to include the results from Gotzis, which will begin its 2nd day of the Multi's in a few hours!

See you then!

My Prefontaine Classic Preview

In its 44th edition (It started in 1973, going by another name!), the Prefontaine Classic just seems to get better and better.
Of course, much depends on what this Olympian field of runners, jumpers, and throwers actually DO in their events, to determine the entire meet's place on the podium of G.E.M's (Greatest Ever Meets).
And in Eugene (where I lived for 11 years, attending many Pre meets), weather--specifically its winds--can affect the sprints and horizontal jumps in both positive and negative ways!
That said, following is Aaron K's Track and Field Record Book's Preview.

Events will be listed in the order of their starting times.
Included for each will be the time the event begins, the Meet Record, key names to watch, as well as some commentary. (All times are Pacific Time.)

Friday, May 27th

Hammer Throw-Men (6:55 p.m.) (271-2, or 82.06)
As with last year, the words "LOADED" or "CLASSIC" became monotonous, but deadly accurate!
Well, with Pawel Fajdek vs Krisztian Pars going head to head, either adjective works!
Fajdek is already the World Leader, and could threaten the Meet Record.
Pars is always dangerous.
Nick Miller is listed as an entry, but he just threw a PR of 252-4 in the NCAA "Regional", so would have to travel just a day after to get here!
Watch also for Gilshod Nazarov and Marcel Lomnicky.
The lone American, Kibwe Johnson, is here as window dressing only.

Long Jump-Women (8:11 p.m.) (23-11.75, or 7.31)
The trio of Americans--Brittney Reese, Janay DeLoach, and Tianna Bartoletta--will have to turn back Ivana Spanovic, Blessing Okagbare, Lorraine Ugen, and Shara Proctor, to make this an All-Star Spangled podium!
And that won't be easy, especially with Spanovic!
Both Okagbare & Bartoletta will be in later track races!
The MR is fairly safe, but with the explosively hit-or-miss Reese, not THAT safe!

Discus Throw-Women (8:15 p.m.) (227-5, or 69.33)
Perky is here!
aka Sandra Perkovic, who already has thrown close to 70 meters--as she often does!
She says she intends to throw long.
Believe her!
The Meet Record is on life support wherever Perky shows up!
Watch for Julia Fischer of Germany, who opened with a huge toss not long ago!
Whitley Ashley has been the best American of late.
Also beware of Nadine Muller and Jade Lally.

Shot Put-Men (8:18 p.m.) (73-6.25, or 22.41)
Joe Kovacs threw the iron ball over 74 feet in 2015.
But that was 2015.
The MR COULD go, but likely won't.
New Zealander Tom Walsh, Jamaican O'Dayne Richards, Poland's Tomasz Majewski, and Canada's Tim Nedow could surprise.
The top Americans--besides Kovacs--are Kurt Roberts, Ryan Crouser, and Jordan Clarke.
Reese Hoffa could better his recently set Age 38 record!

High School 400's-Women & Men (8:23 & 8:30 p.m) (No MR's!)
Last year, the HS Miles--especially the Women's--were pretty near THE best event of the entire meet!!
Why they chose to do the 400's is beyond me.
Especially when the best runners are NOT here!!
No Noah Lyles or Michael Norman--No Sydney McLaughlin!
But what we DO have is Sammy Watson--probably better in the 800!
One thing to keep in mind--if she can run a sub-52 (or even low 52's), that puts her 800 potential at SUB-2:00!!
For the Men, watch for Keshun Reed and Brian Herron.
If you remember, Herron was breaking Frosh Class records INdoors early on, before Tyrese Cooper came along to break them!
A sub-46 would be nice!

USATF High Performance 800-Women (8:37 p.m.) (1:56.72)
The MR is almost 100% safe, but the USA roster of entrants will more than make up for it!
It's Alysia Montano vs Laura Roesler--the front-runner vs the kicker.
Then you have Chanelle Price (aka Genzebe Dibaba's personal rabbit) vs Kate Grace, who is on FIRE!!
Throw in Molly Ludlow, Chrishuna Williams, McKayla Fricker & Charlene Lipsey for seasoning!

5000-Women (8:52 p.m.) (14:19.76)
Genzebe's MR from last year won't go--most likely!
But with the two V's--Viola Kibiwot & Vivian Cheruiyot here--and with a hot pace...??
Other Africans to watch include Mercy Cherono, Sally Kipyego, Helen Obiri, Alemitu Haroye, and Gelete Burka.
But it might be Molly Huddle who steals the show (but not the race!).
Her own American Record is in dire jeopardy!
Other Americans--all of whom could go sub-15:00 for the first time--include Marielle Hall, Nicole Tully, and Kim Conley.
Alexi Pappas, the soon-to-be Greek Olympian in the 10000 & star film-maker of the much-praised TrackTown, is also here!
Belaynesh Oljira, Betsy Saina, Buze Diriba, and Mimi Belete are others to key on!
Pace for the AR is about 70.5 per 400!

10000-Men (9:18.p.m.) (26:25.97)  (BTW, this event was switched with the Women's 5000, thus ending the Friday session!)
Apparently, Mo (Mr Run for Medals) Farah is here to run fast.
Define "fast", MoBot!
If he's talking the MR--or even an attempt on the WR--that's FAST!
If he just seeks to PR--around 26:45--not so fast!
Putting him to the task will be Zerzenay Tadese, Albert Rop, Augustine Choge, Imane Merga, Tarike Bekele, Joseph Bett, Ibrahim Jelan, and Emmanuel Bett.
An interesting trio of Americans are also here--German Fernandez, Eric Jenkins, and Chris Derrick.
Watch also for Stephen Sambu.

Saturday, May 28th

Triple Jump-Men (12:15 p.m.) (57-11.75, or 17.67)
Why isn't PPPP, aka Pablo Pedro etc Pichardo, here?
In fact, why hasn't he competed all season?
Injured?
That said, Christian Taylor and former STUD Teddy Tamgho ARE here!
If Taylor's on, the MR can be ERASED!!
With emphasis!!
But watch for Tamgho, who has been in Pichardo-Taylor territory before!!
Marquis Dendy and China's Bin Dong are also dangerous.
Will Claye and Omar Craddock are other key Americans.

Pole Vault-Men (12:18 p.m.) (19-10.25, or 6.05)
Renaud Lavillenie is ALWAYS a MR (and World Record!!) threat!
The Eugene weather could affect this event, however!
Sam Kendricks is by FAR the best American of this decade--and maybe soon, of All-Time!!
In a year (INdoors & OUTdoors) already filled with PR's he could be Renaud's main foe.
Shawn Barber has run hot and cold in 2016--mostly cold of late!
But he's capable of 6 meters or higher if he's "hot".
But don't ignore Pawel Wojcichowski, Konstantinos Filippidis, Piotr Lisek & China's Changriu Xue.

110H-Men (12:33 p.m.) (12.90)
Aries Merritt recently ran his best post-kidney transplant time--a 13.24!
But Omar McLeod, David Oliver, Pascal Martinot-Legarde, Hansle Parchment will contend.
The MR will almost certainly be the same in 2017.
Jarrett Eaton (No relation!) ran 13.25 recently.
Jon Cabral and Jeff Porter are scenery.

National Mile-Men (12:42 p.m.) (3:47.32, and 3:32.72 for 1500)
Two High Schoolers make this field as much fun to watch as the later Bowerman Mile--which ALSO has a HS'er in it!!  (See below!)
Michael Slagowski has broken 4:00 already.
Austin Tamagno hasn't, but he's foregoing the rest of his HS season to race against the Pro's, seeking that magic number!
Assisting in the pacing (errr, racing??) will be Jordan McNamara, Leo Manzano, Mac Fleet, and Pat Casey.
Watch also for Jonathan Sawe, Charlie Grice, and Dawit Wolde.
Oh Hell, forget those dudes!
Key on those "kids"!!

100-Women  (12:53 p.m.) (10.70)
The reason I'm so late getting this post out is because the organizers (IAAF, Nike) decided to hold off releasing the entry list until almost a whole DAY after all the other entry lists had been posted!!
But the wait is worth it!!
SAFP, aka Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, with her cute face bedecked with always-colorful hairdo's, is HERE!!
Already perhaps the Greatest-ever female sprinter, she is THE one to watch here!
But don't blink, because you might miss Barbara Pierre, English Gardner, the aforementioned Tianna Bartoletta & Blessing Okagbare (See LJ preview above!), as well as the evergreen Carmelita Jeter, aka JET!!
But she'll have to be of the SuperSonic variety to beat Shelly Ann!!

400H-Men (1:03 p.m.) (47.91)
Only Nicholas Bett of Kenya seems capable of challenging the MR, but feel safe to bet your last $5 he won't!
One of the weaker events here, and overall, watch for the usual crew--Javier Culson, Mike Tinsley, Bershawn Jackson to possibly challenge Bett.
Jeff Gibson is also listed.

High Jump-Women (1:09 p.m.) (6-7.50, or 2.02)
This is Mommy's vs Daughter!
Okay, not literally, but thinking of their disparity in age, definitely!
Vashti Cunningham, the newbie Pro who just graduated High School, and who is the reigning INdoor World Champion, faces the same "ancient" rivals she faced in March just 100 miles north of here!
37 year old Ruth Beitia and 30 year old Kamila Licwinko will face Cunningham in a titanic Battle of the Ages!!
But do NOT overlook another "Mom"--literally, as she gave birth a year or 2 ago!--32 year old (but RED HOT recently!!) Chaunte Lowe!!
She seems to be BACKKK!! to her old American Record form!
Isabel Pooley, Alessia Trost, Lavern Spencer, and Marie-Laurence Jungfleisch are also here!
This is definitely one of the highlight events in this year's Pre Classic!!
BTW, the HS PRO record is in mortal danger, and maybe even the Meet Record!
The American Record too?
No--too much to ask in late May!

3000SC-Women (1:12 p.m.) (9:11.39)
Based on the pace, this MR could fall.
Emma Coburn is Steepling for the first time in the Olympic year, but ran a good 1500 recently!
Ashley Higginson, Leah O'Connor, and Shalaya Kipp are the other Americans.
But they'll all have to contend with  Ruth Jebet, Sofia Assefa, Virginia Nyambura, Purity Kirui, Hyvia Kiyang, and maybe German star Gesa Krause for MR honors!
If Coburn (or..?) runs 9:11.39 or faster, she will have broken her own AR of 9:11.42.
If they reach 2K in 6:15 or faster, the MR would be doable!

800-Men (1:26 p.m.) (1:43.63)
David Rudisha is NOT here!
That leaves Mohammed Aman, Nijel Amos, Adam Kszczot, Amal Tuha to duel the top American, Boris Berian!
Unless you've been in a cave recently, you probably know that nice little Nike PUBLICLY SERVED former McDonald's hamburger flipper Berian at the Hoka One One (an IRONIC act if ever there was one!!!) meet--at which Berian was there as OBSERVER ONLY!!!
Okay, breathing (somewhat) back to normal, let's just say I FULLY SUPPORT Boris in his "duel" with Nike!!
I hope he becomes Olympic Champion, then PUBLICLY displays HIS shoe brand in front of Nike's ugly face!!!

Javelin Throw-Men (277-8, or 84.64)
Thomas Rohler recently threw the spear over 286 feet!
Thus, the MR could fall!!
While Julius Yego and Keshorn Walcott are both here, their recent showings have been nowhere near their best.
The best American--and that's not saying much!--has been Cy Hostetler in 2016.
He's been out in 275 territory--feet, that is!

400-Men (1:35 p.m.) (43.92)
Kirani James vs LaShawn Merritt!
The story of this event SHOULD begin and end right there!
But there's 3 other sub-44 guys in this field--albeit ones who have run that fast rarely--and even shockingly so!
Abdelelah Haroun, Yousef Masrahi, Rusheen McDonald, Isaac Makwela.
Under or close to 44 flat, all!!
But it's James vs Merritt, and that's all, folks!!

5000-Men (1:43 p.m.) (12:56.98)
I've heard rumors the pace will be FAST!
If so, and if they CONTINUE to run fast AFTER the rabbit leaves, the MR will go down!
Ageless (as in 41 & a half years old!!) Bernard Lagat is here, probably as speed-work for his attempt to make the Rio 10K team!
So instead watch Tom Longisiwa, Hagos Gebrhiwet, Edwin Soi, Geoff Kamworor, Isiah Koech, Paul Tanui, Yomif Kejelcha, and well, you get the picture, a host of other Africans!!
BUT there's a few Americans who could make things a bit interesting!
Ben True, who seems ready to challenge the American Record, is one of them.
But Sam Chelanga and Hassan Mead--as well as Canadian Mo Ahmed--might challenge for North American superiority!!

200-Women (2:04 p.m.) (21.81)
Even more than the 100 (See above!), this could be THE Women's event of the meet---even of the YEAR--outside of the OG itself!!
Dafne Schippers!!!  (Recently ran 22.02!!)
Tori Bowie (Has 10.80 100 speed!)
Elaine Thompson (Finished 0.03 behind Schippers in Beijing's WC's!!)
Jenna Prandini (The new Pro, who might be ready for a HUGE breakthrough!)
Candyce McGrone, who ran 22.01 last year!
Add Teen HS Pro Kaylin Whitney, and Kim Duncan, and you have yourself an OLYMPIC field!!!
MR can fall!!
(If the Eugene winds stay calmer than usual during the race!!)

100-Men (2:13 p.m.) (9.80)
Three controversial fellows--for different reasons!--vs the New Kid On the Block!
Formerly banned for drugs Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay are here, as is the Jamaican vet Asefa Powell.
They'll face the young Canadian--Andre De Grasse--whose best times were wind-aided!
But they were oh-so-FAST!!
If the wind Gods are WITH them, a SUB-9.80 is possible!
Ameer Webb, who might be better in the 200, will challenge, as will Femi Ogunode, Mike Rodgers, and China's Bingtian Su.

1500-Women (2:22 p.m.) (3:57.05)
While the World maybe focuses on the Africans--Faith Kipyegon, Dawit Seyaum, Axumawit Embaye, and Gudaf Tsegay, the US crowd will instead be watching their own set of studs!
We have the American Record holder--Shannon Rowbury.
We have the once-almost certain AR holder--Jenny Simpson.
We have 800 Bronze Medalist (in the Moscow WC!)--Brenda Martinez.
And we have Teenage Pro--Alexa Efraimson, who PR'ed in the 800 at the Hoka meet!!
But don't forget Treniere Moser, Canadian Sweetheart Sheila Reid, Laura Weightman, and Linden Hall!
If the pace is solid, the MR will be on soft sand!

100H-Women (2:33 p.m.) (12.45)
The Olympic final?
Not quite!
Comebacking (from a broken wrist!!) Sally Pearson isn't here.
Neither is Lolo Jones, who should be in the mix at the Trials, as always!
But that leaves a field that DOES have Sharika Nelvis, Nia Ali, Dawn Harper-Nelson, Jasmin Stowers, Brianna Rollins, Tiffany Porter, and Kendra Harrison!
(If the track were a dozen or so lanes, we could throw in Pearson, Jones, Queen Harrison and...!!!)
And Alina Talay ain't too slow either!

400-Women (2:42 p.m.) (49.34)
There's a Changing of the Guard in the works here!
The once-and-forever Queens--Allyson Felix and Sanya Richards-Ross--are either injured (Felix) or coming back from injury (SRR).
The Americans do have Fran McCorory here, as well as Ashley Spencer.
But they'll have to beat the Rising Stars of the event--Shaunae Miller and maybe Quanera Hayes!
Natasha Hastings is another American vet possibly on the downslope!
Stephanie McPherson and Shericka Jackson are also ones to watch.

Bowerman Mile-Men (2:51 p.m.) (3:47.32, and 3:32.72 in the 1500)
As with the earlier Mile (See above!), a High Schooler could be the most interesting figure here!
Drew Hunter, who shattered Alan Webb's 1500 & Mile HSR's INdoors (TWICE!!), will take on Webb's OUTdoor HSR's!!
But that would entail a drop of over 4 seconds under his INdoor PR's!
He'll have the Big Guns (as Webb did in 2001's Pre, in the name of Hicham El Guerrouj!!) to assist him!
But if the pace is on for sub-3:50 (as it was in 2001), he could find himself in some trouble.
Up front, you'll probably see Ayanleh Souleiman, Silas Kiplagat, Asbel Kiprop, Taoufik Makhloufi, Abdelaati Iguider, and Elijah Manangoi.
The challenging Americans (I don't include Hunter in this class--yet!!) should be Ben Blankenship and Evan Jager--who isn't JUST a fast Steeplechaser!!
Have you noticed I haven't mentioned Matthew Centrowitz, always a Hayward Field crowd favorite?
He's apparently resting a niggle!
Oh, and another name missing--from either the 5000 or 10000--is Galen Rupp, another NOP/Alberto Salazar-coached stud!
He's apparently in great shape, but will wait for the Trials to unload!!
(Not to mention NOP/Salazar people Jordan Hasay & Mary Cain--also MIA here!!)

Enjoy the meet!
USATF-TV will livestream the Friday session--but NOT for free, as they did last year!
NBC will have an hour's worth on Saturday!

Then, for ALL the details, come back to this blog a few hours after the Bowerman Mile ends!!

T&F Kettle is BOILING!

Hey, T&F Gods, I thought this week would be (maybe!) a good Rabat DL and not much else!
Ha!
Just wait till you see the MEGA-tons of material I have for you!

Yes, Rabat--the replacement DL for the NY meet--was a good meet.
Before I get into it, a few Aaron K Track and Field Record Book Announcements!

1. This blog will NOT honor or accept any times run by Caster Semenya as fully legit.  I will note them, but I will not list them as a Meet Record, National Record, Age Record, or any other kind of record!  Semenya's times will NOT be on any of my lists!  "She" does not belong on a Women's list!!  And I hope the IAAF and other governing bodies will follow suit!
2. The Rabat DL Meet Records listed below are for the entire history of the Rabat T&F meet, which has been held for several years.  Just as with other old meets (Weltklasse, Bislett, Van Damme, etc), which later became Diamond League meets, I look to a meet's entire history for MR's, not just since gaining DL status!

Now, on to the stats!

Almaz Ayana was on World Record pace for the 5000 through 3000 meters, hitting that mark all alone at 8:32.3.  She slowed some to a 2:54 4th K, and just couldn't pick it up enough all by herself, finishing in a Rabat MR of 14:16.31.
Viola Kibiwot got the Age 32 record with her PR of 14:29.50 in 2nd.
She also became the oldest woman to run a sub-14:30!!
Senbere Teferi was next in 14:35.09, with 4 others under 14:50, including Sweden's Meref Bahta, whose 14:49.95 breaks her own NR by almost 10 seconds!

In the Hengelo meet, Dejen Gebremeskel ran a solid 13:00.99 to handle Abrar Adem's 13:04.12, Bethwell Birgen's 13:04.66, and Yigrom Demalash's 13:06.60.
In Rabat, Abdelaati Iguider got the MR by default, as it was the first time the 3000 was run there, his time being 7:36.85!
Hengelo's Women's 5K was won by Letesenbet Gidey's 14:58.44.
Back a few places, Jen Rhines's 16:14.41 might be the US Over 40 record, though I'm not sure!
Pierre Ambroise-Bosse beat Taoufik Makhloufi in the Rabat 800, 1:44.51 to 1:44.91.
Tim Cheruiyot's 3:33.01 took care of Silas Kiplagat's 3:33.68, and Ryan Gregson's 3:34.43.
The Hengelo Women's 1500 was taken by Besu Sado in 4:05.30.
Sub-4 runner Maureen Koster finished 2nd in 4:05.48.

The two Rabat 3000SC's produced some fast times!
Elenesh Diro Neda missed the MR by 0.73 seconds, her winning time being 9:16.87.
In 4th, with a slight PR, came Australian hopeful Genevieve LaCaze, time of 9:32.67.
But the Men's winner--Consesius Kipruto--got the Meet Record with his World-leading 8:02.77!
Jairus Birech was 2nd in 8:03.90.
Paul Koech was 3rd in 8:12.33.

I'll report other distance marks a bit later.
Let's continue with the Hengelo & Rabat report!

David Oliver nabbed the Rabat MR in the 110H with his 13.12.
Orlando Ortega was right behind him, time of 13.13!
Janieve Russell of Jamaica got a PR in winning the 400H, time of 54.16.
Cassandra Tate ran a good 54.69 in 2nd.
Javon Francis won the Hengelo 400 in 45.35.
Back in 3rd came Jeremy Wariner's 46.33!
Alonzo Edward took a very windy (3.8!) Rabat 200 in 20.07.
Dafne Schippers, however, had a minimal 0.3 wind to go up against on her way to a Hengelo Meet Record time of 22.02!!
Second place was a full 1.04 seconds behind!!  (23.06!)
It's her 2nd fastest time ever!!
In Rabat, LaShawn Merritt won easily in the Meet Record time of 44.66.
Back in 4th came Age Record-smashing vet Chris Brown, who broke his own Age 37 record with his 45.75!!
Elaine Thompson fought a tough wind of 1.3 to take the Rabat 100 in the Meet Record time of 11.02!
Blessing Okagbare took 2nd in 11.11, with Carmelita Jeter back in 5th with her 11.32!

The Rabat Women's 800 saw Caster Semenya cross the finish line ahead of everyone else in the time of 1:56.64.
But the Meet Record goes to the REAL winner--Francine Niyonsaba, her time being 1:57.74.
It was a fast race, with Niyonsaba being followed by Renelle Lamote of France (1:58.84), Eunice Sum (1:59.32), Lynsey Sharp (1:59.51), and Habitam Alemu, in 1:59.70.

In Field events, Ekaterina Stefanidi won the Rabat Pole Vault with a height of 15-7.
She took 3 tries at 15-9.
Second was Nicole Buchler's 15-5.
Out after clearing 14-9 was Yarisley Silva!
Bogdan Bondarenko won the Rabat HJ with his best of the year--7-7.
Madera Palameika got the Rabat MR in the Discus Throw with his 212-5.
The Hengelo TJ was taken by Chris Carter's PR of 56-2.
He misses the A-T US list by 2.75 inches!
The Rabat Women's TJ was won by---who else??--Caterine Ibarguen, her winner measuring 47-7.25!
We should note that Collegian Keturah Orji's windy 47-11 TJ at the SEC meet would have BEATEN Ibarguen today!!!
Rushwal Samaal tied the Rabat Meet Record in the LJ with his winner of 27-6.
Right behind him came Fabrice LaPierre's 27-5.25!
Piotr Malachowski got the Rabat MR with his Discus toss of 221-3!
And Valerie Adams keeps moving closer to her "normal" Valerie Adams form---her 64-6.75 missing her own Rabat MR by just one-half inch!!

High Schoolers attacked their Record Book like it was---well, State meet time!!
But their onslaught wasn't limited to State meets!!

In a meet at Swarthmore (!!), Marielle Hall's 4:14.29 in the 1500 was overtaken by a hard-charging (from 4th to 1st on the final straight!!) Kate Murphy, whose 4:14.26 moves her from 12th A-T HS to 6th!
She becomes the 4th HS'er to run 4:15.28 or faster this OUTdoor season!!
(Someone, set up a RABBITED Mile race, PLEASE!!!)

In the Hoka One One (Oxy) meet's 1500, Austin Tamagno finished well back, but his 3:44.14 makes him 12th A-T HS!
(More on that meet later!)

Chris Nilsen has suddenly become the best HS Pole Vaulter of All-Time!!
Starting the year with a 17-6 PR, he upped that to 18-0 recently!
Well, forget those measly figures!!
His 18-4.75 is the new HSR!!
It's also the Senior Class record!
He moves from 7th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to the top spot!
BTW, he's 18, so falls well short of Maksim  Tarasov's Age 18 record of 19-0.25.
If he'd been 17, he would have broken the World Age 17 record!!
(I tweeted him about his age!  He said he's 18!)

Alyssa Wilson continues to climb the ladder, her 55-1.25 SP moving her from 10th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 2nd.
Only Raven Saunders is ahead of her!
And Wilson's just an 11th Grader, so has the rest of this year and all of 2017 to attack that rung!!
Oh yes, it's the Junior Class record, obviously!
(Wilson had an earlier mark--from a few days ago--of 53-8.50, which had moved her from 10th A-T HS to 7th!
Also in the SP, Tripp Piperi got another PR, hitting 71-11.
It moves him from 21st to 12th on the A-T HS list!
It also broke one Michael Carter's Texas State record for 11th Graders!!

A couple of doubles are well worth talking about, even though no records were broken!
Sydney McLaughlin took the 400H and 400 flat races in 56.99 and 52.97, the best HS times in both this year!
Lauren Rain Williams's 100 of 11.17 and 200 of 22.44 were lost to over-the-allowable winds!
But what a pair of times!!
Both McLaughlin and Williams are Juniors!!
(Will either---or both--turn Pro before they graduate??)

Other HS news included--
Vernon Turner HJ'ed 7-4.50, moving him from 16th A-T HS, tied with 6 others, to 8th, where he's tied with 4 others!
Darryl Sullivan's 7-4 made him 17th A-T HS, tied with 6 others!
Terrell Adams had a DT mark of 213-9, which makes him 15th A-T HS!
Even better---in a way!---was the 198-9 DT of Kyle Carrillo!
Why is that mark "better" than Adams's?
It's the new Frosh Class record.
And it broke the old record by 7 feet, 1 inch!!
As with the Women's 1500, the Men's SP is a HOT item this year!
Another 70+ mark was hit by Dan Guiliani, his 71-1.50 making him 19th A-T HS, tied with one other!
Bobby Colantonio improved a few inches in the Hammer Throw, his 251-2 not enough to move him from his 5th A-T HS position!
Kamryn Brinson's HT of 187-0 moves her from 24th A-T HS to 15th!
Margaret Ollinger upped her PV best to 13-8.25, moving her from 23rd A-T HS to 19th, tied with 1 other!
And Madison Wiltrout continues her return from surgery, her 158-0 JT being her longest--so far!!

The Hoka One One/Oxy meet was productive, besides that 1500 by Austin Tamagno!
Hassan Mead took the Men's 1500 in 3:37.65.
Jordan McNamara ran 3:38.26 in 2nd.
Back in 6th, but kicking hard, was Andrew Wheating's 3:38.60.
The Women's 1500 was won by Kate Grace in a PR 4:05.65.
She beat the "winking" Sheila Reid's 4:05.74.
(Much was made on Twitter about the attractive Reid winking at the starting line as the camera passed by her!  She winked again while crossing the line!!)
Katie Mackey, Shannon Rowbury (doubling back from a slow 800!), and Emma Coburn followed, all sub-4:07!
Morgan Uceny ran in a "slow" heat, but won it with her strong-looking 4:09.27!!

Charlie Grice took the Men's 800 in 1:46.95 over Robby Andrews's 1:47.22.
The Women's race was a thriller!
Hitting a high-58 the first go-round, Brenda Martinez and Laura Roesler opened a gap over the field by the back-straight.
They ran side-by-side for almost the entire last 300, with Martinez slightly ahead, but just by inches!
Roesler's 400 speed (and maybe old HS sprinters speed!!) was JUST enough to pass Brenda at the tape, winning in 2:00.15 to Martinez's 2:00.18.
Phoebe Wright had her best race in awhile, her 2:01.02 taking the 3rd spot over Molly Ludlow's 2:01.11.

The 5000's were fairly slow, but saw different names at the front.
Eric Jenkins won the Men's race in 13:24.67, his last lap being 55!
Canadian Andrea Seccafien took 13 seconds off her PR, her winning time being 15:17.81.
Jessica Tebo and Marathoner Kellyn Taylor came next in 15:21.88 & 15:22.10.
Another "Marathoner" was 4th, Sara Hall running 15:26.25.
I was happy to see Natosha Rogers running her best race since 2012 (!!), her 15:28.56 showing she might be back in the game!
Jordan Hasay faded badly in the last few laps, running just 15:50.12 in 16th!

The only Meet Records came in the 3000SC's!
Jamie Cheever just got engaged (the announcers stated!), and she ran a celebratory time (and MR) of 9:37.12.
Shalaya Kipp was with her half the way, before falling back to a 9:42.21.
Marisa Howard ran 9:42.94 in 3rd, with Mel Lawrence next in 9:43.90.
In the Men's race, Evan Jager jogged behind the pacers for a few laps, then closed with a spectacular 57 second final lap---with all the hurdles & water pit!!!---his MR time being 8:15.26!
57 frigging seconds!!
How many runners run that---but WITHOUT any barriers in their way??
Amazing!!
Dan Huling was first among the humans--his 8:18.58 beating Cory Leslie's PR of 8:19.12.
That makes him 20th A-T US!
Matt Hughes ran his usual strong race--in 8:20.62!

Yes, there's more!!
Take a break, and come back for the rest!

Mason Ferlic is best known as a Steepler!
But he PR'ed in the 1500, his 3:36.65 making him 11th A-T Collegiate!
Pushed OFF my Collegiate DDD were two guys you might have heard about!
Gabe Jennings had run 3:37.33 in 2000.
And Don Paige ran the same time in 1979!
Both are GONE!!

In that Swarthmore meet, David Torrence won a fast 1500 in 3:36.06.
In 5th was Thomas Awad in 3:37.75, with Nate Brannen 8th (3:38.04), Will Leer 9th (3:39.09), and Garrett O'Toole 11th in 3:39.34.
Ajee Wilson took the 800 there in 2:02.60.
Helen Obiri took the Beijing IWC 1500 in 4:02.11, with Lauren Johnson getting her OT qualifier in 5th with her 4:05.29.

Also in Beijing, Sam Kendricks raised his PV bar to 19-5, cleared it, but missed the World DDD by one-half inch!
He does move from 12th A-T US to 8th, tied with 1 other.
Fabiana Murer got the Age 35 record with her 15-1.
That was in the Rio Test meet!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Chaunte Lowe started a Heptathlon in Rio, completing the 1st day.
Her marks were 13.96, 6-4, 30-11.75, and 24.47.
Her point total was 3558!!
Not bad for, as she said, "messing up"!!
She also won the open HJ with 6-5!
Three National Records fell there.
Yancarlos Martinez's 20.19 in the 200 nabbed the NR of the Dominican Republic.
Another DR NR (sic!) came in the Men's 4X100 Relay, their time being 38.52.
It misses my World DDD by 0.05 seconds!
And Colombia's 4X400 Men's Relay team got their NR with their 3:01.88.
It misses my World list by 0.76 seconds!

Some Field event marks (besides the ones already mentioned!) included--
At the ACC conference, Bria Matthews TJ'ed 45-0.50 to make her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 4 others!
Majed El Ghazel HJ'ed 7-8.75 for Syria's National Record!
In Ostrava, Thomas Roehler threw the Javelin 286-7 for the World leader!
Konrad Bukowiecki got the Age 19 record in the SP, hitting 68-11.25!!
He also holds the Age 18 record!
In the Ostrava Women's PV, Yarisley Silva returned to action with a good 15-1, better than she did a few days later.  (See above!)
But she lost there to Jirina Ptacnikova's 15-1 by having more misses!
Logan Cunningham PR'ed with 18-8.75.
Emanouil Karalis reached 18-2.50.
Oh, BTW, that's the World Age 16 record!!
Kylie Hutson continues a strong spring of PV'ing, her 15-3.50 being the latest!
Katie Nageotte reached 14-9 at the Manchester City Games street meet!

A "Throwers" meet produced more than just "good" marks!
Would you believe an American Record??
Gwen Berry has been on fire this year, but she outdid herself with the new US record of 250-4 (76.31), the first US woman to reach 250 feet!!
She moves from 2nd to 1st on the US list.
She also moves from 21st A-T World to 15th!!

Reese Hoffa improved his own Age 38 record by quite a bit, reaching 68-4.25!
Cyrus Hostetler PR'ed in the JT to 275-0, moving him from 10th to 8th A-T US!
Ben Woodruff threw the spear 265-3, making him 21st A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Tavis Bailey threw the Discus 213-1.
Jill Camarena-Williams had a solid SP of 62-3.75 to show SHE ain't done yet!!

The lone running event at this Throwers meet was a Women's 400H, and it was FAST!!
Georgeanne Moline ran her fastest time in awhile, a 53.98, to take over the World lead!!
Second was Delilah Muhammed's 54.64.
Arizona Collegian Sage Watson was 3rd in 54.82.
But her time makes her 19th A-T Collegiate!
Now OFF my list is the venerable Kim Batten, her 55.04 dating from 1992!
It now takes a 54.99 to tie for 24th on the Collegiate list!
A 55+ won't do!!

At that Manchester street meet, Dafne Schippers took a windy (2.7) 100 in 10.94.
Kim Collins also had a good wind (3.2) to help him to a 10.08.
Schippers beat Tiana Bartoletta's 11.19, while the 40 year old Collins took care of  a guy HALF his age, 20 year old Trayvon Bromell, who ran 10.14.

Sally Pearson returned from a broken wrist with a solid 12.75 in the 100H.
It was a small Australian meet!
In Ostrava, Jarrett Eaton took the 110H in 13.25.
In that Beijing IWC meet, Aries Merritt ran his fastest post-kidney transplant time of 13.24!!

Veronica Campbell-Brown took the 200 in Beijing in 22.29.
Murielle Ahoure's 11.06 took the 100 there.
Kaylin Whitney was a far back 7th in 11.45.
Justin Gatlin ran another 9.94 to win in Beijing, beating the 9.97 by Mike Rodgers!
And MISTER USAIN BOLT---trumpets, a parade, a sold-out crowd---won the Ostrava 100 in 9.98!

And last, but certainly NOT least, the return of Tirunesh Dibaba after a two year absence for childbirth and whatever else!!!
She won the Great Manchester Road 10000 in 31:16!!
Edna Kiplagat took 2nd in 31:25, with Diane Nukuri in 3rd with 31:49.
She's BAAACCKKK!!!!

And the Men's race?
How about Ken Bekele's 28:08 beating Marathoner Wilson Kipsang's 28:15 and Australia's David McNeill's 28:39??
What a match-up!!

Thank YOU for hanging in there!!
Not bad for a supposedly "quiet" week!!

Those DDD's---the Women

The same format applies here.
Event-by-event, with 24th place mark listed (minimum needed to make list), with some names added who might make a list this year or next, and a bit of commentary!

100
World (10.82)  Five got their marks since London OG, with Tori Bowie tying her 2014 PR this year!  Marlies Gohr's 10.81 from 1983 the oldest mark.  Evelyn Ashford's mark is from 1984.
US (10.92)  This list is 27 deep, with 4 tied at 10.92.  Jenna Prandini is one of those at the bottom!  Watch for Hannah Cunliffe & the 2 Pro HS'er's, Kaylin Whitney & Candace Hill.  (Unless Cunliffe moves to Pasta-land, aka Italy!!)
Collegiate (11.08) 26 listed, with 3 tied at 11.08.  Cunliffe's here from 2016 already, and watch for Felicia Brown to follow!  Leader Dawn Sowell's mark is 27 years old!
HS (11.29)  Margaret Bailes's 23rd place mark dates from 1968!!  Chandra Cheeseborough's is from 1976.  Pro's Hill, Whitney, and Khalifa St Fort on this list, but with their AMATEUR marks!!  Allyson Felix is at bottom, tied with Bailes!!

200
World (21.99) 25 on list, with 3 tied at 21.99, including Cheeseborough from 1983!  Ashford's mark is from 1979.  Just 5 from this century, but 2 from last year!!
US (22.23)  Expect Felicia Brown & Cunliffe to make this list--if the latter remains an American!  Hill & Whitney could make this list.  Also Kyra Jefferson!  Ashford again has oldest mark, from 1979!  Six marks total from 2014 & 2015.
Collegiate (22.45)  Cunliffe falls just short of this list!  She'll get on it!  So might Taylor Ellis-Watson, except word is she'll run only the 400 (& Relay) at NCAA's!  7 marks from 2014-2016 period--so far!
HS (23.02)  Whitney & Hill (NOT St Fort!!) on this list with Amateur marks!  Cheeseborough's 22.77 dates from 1975!  But Bailes does her one better, as her 22.95 is from ;68!!  She's still 16th on list!!

400
World (49.32)  Sixteen marks from 20th century!  Only Felix's 49.26 from '15 since London OG!!  Expect Shaunae Miller to make the list!  Maybe Fran McCorory.  Courtney Okolo & Quinera Hayes others to watch for!
US (50.17)  The four 50+'s date from 2000 & earlier!  Shakima Wimbley & Ellis-Watson are possibles this year or next!
Collegiate (50.86)  Seven marks date from 2013 forward!  Lillie Leatherwood has oldest mark, from 1987!  Okolo's CR 0.39 seconds ahead of 2nd on list!
HS (52.19)  Sydney McLaughlin's missing from this list!  So is Sammy Watson!  Seven date from 1972-1982 period!

800
World (1:55.96)  25 on list, with 2 tied at bottom rung!  Caster Semenya's 13th place mark might yet be removed, if IAAF gets some balls!!  She does NOT belong on this list!!  Four marks are from 1976!  Can Genzebe Dibaba get on this list?  What about Ajee Wilson?
US (1:59.00)  Eight of the sub-1:58's date from 20th century!  Kate Grace & Alexa Efraimson ran fast recently, and could make this list.  So might Mary Cain, if she "comes back"!!  Watch for Laura Roesler & Raevyn Rogers too!
Collegiate (2:01.37)  Six marks date since London OG, including Olivia Baker from this year!  A few are close enough to make it, if they don't dawdle at the NCAA's!
HS (2:04.55)  Charlotte Cooke's 2:03.8 dates from 50 years ago!!  Seven other marks date from the '70's!  Efraimson's & Cain's marks date from when they were Amateurs!  Only Christine Aragon (of the fastest 1500 Women--See 1500/Mile!!) has an 800 mark here!

1500 & 1 Mile (NO 1600 marks, or times converted from them!!)
World (3:56.62 & 4:21.13)  Three made the 1500 list last year, with Faith Kipyegon getting close this year!  I include all the Chinese times from 1997 & 1993!!  Except for Dibaba's WR, all of the sub-3:55's date from the last century!  Jenny Simpson, Kipyegon, and Dawit Seyaum could make the 1500 list!  Hoping Ms Dibaba has lots of company when she guns for WR Mile next month!  That list needs MAJOR revision!!
US (4:04.17 & 4:27.68)  Same goes for this Mile list!  Drastic rewrite needed!!  Anyone who can break 4:11 for 1500 could get on this Mile list!!  As late as 2014, Cain's HSR was 24th placer!!  Minimum mark could drop below 4:04 soon!  Jan Merrill's 4:02.61 is from 1976!
Collegiate (4:10.72 & 4:39.89)  The Mile list is embarrassing!!  4:10's worth about 4:28 or faster, so massive Mile revision called for!  Will NCAA rule (See Men's report!) do it next year??  EIGHTEEN Mile marks date from 1979 to 1990!!
HS (4:20.64 & 4:41.31) This could be the "Year of the 1500/Mile", as 4 Women (so far!!) have made Top 8 list!!  (That's right--4 of the Top 8!!)  And watch for Destiny Collins, Sammy Watson, and Stephanie Jenks as strong candidates to join them!!  The Brooks PR and/or NBN races could be DYNO-MITE!!!

3000 & 2 Mile (NO 3200 times, or times converted from them!!)
World (8:26.48 & 9:33.47)  Two Mile list had HUGE revision in 2014, as FOURTEEN of 24 marks date from then---from just 2 races!!  But it's still WAY off what it should be, vis a vis the 3K list!  Dibaba will race a 3K in Monaco!  Hold on to your hats!  Shannon Rowbury & Simpson could make 3000 list!  GD's just 23rd now--but not for long!!  Mary Slaney's AR is 21st!
US (8:43.32 & 10:03.05)  The Deuce list is so piss poor that it includes six HS marks!!  Yet 9 marks date from 2014 & 2015!!  Merrill's 3K mark is from 1978.  Francie Larrieu's 2 Mile is from 1972!  Anyone who can run a 4:45 Mile could probably make the 2 Mile list right now!!  (How many DOZENS of Americans can run that??)
Collegiate (9:07.46)  Collegians don't run the Deuce, and the ENTIRE 3K list dates from 2000 & earlier!!  Should I close down this list??  They race this distance INdoors--Why not OUTdoors??
HS (9:22.68 & 10:12.48)  Lynn Bjorklund's 9:08.6 from 1975 is oldest 3K mark--and the HSR!!  (Cain's mark was as a Pro!)  Julie & Mary Shea make 3000 list!  Bjorklund ran a 10:11.1 Two Mile in 1974!!  Nine Deuces date from 2014 & 2015--again, NO 3200 crap!!

5000 & 10000
World (14:32.74 & 30:26.50)  A Wham-Bam 5000 field is coming to Pre---with visions of HUGE list revisions dancing in my head!!  One can dream, eh?!  I can see Molly Huddle, Rowbury & Simpson as capable of making this list!  Will Pre (or??) set up a similar field for a 10K??  Huddle has a chance to make the 10K list too!
US (15:06.45 & 31:38.71)  Both lists likely to see big revision, although several candidates already on lists!  Eight 5K marks date from 2013 forward, while just 4 10K's date from 2014 forward!  Could be a whole lot more--if they didn't just go for Q times!!
Collegiate (15:29.0 & 32:31.65)  Patti Sue Plumer's is the 5K caboose, dating from 1984.  Only other 20th century mark is Kathy Hayes's 15:23.03 from 1985!  Fourteen 5K's date from this decade!  And 16 of the 25 lappers!  Kara (Wheeler!) Goucher is 23rd on the 5K list, from 2000!!  Three 10K's are from 2016!!
HS (16:33.32 & 36:19.84)  That 10K list is ridiculous!!  It SHOULD be ALL sub-35's!!  Mary Shea's 16:13.7 dates from 1979!  (Same year she ran HSR 32:52.5--TWO 5K's of 16:26 back to back!!)  Twenty of 24 10K's date from 1971 to 1996!

Marathon (World & US only!)
World (2:20:48)  Oldest marks are from 2001.  Fourteen date from 2011 forward!  Deena Kastor's AR still 10th!!  Could see several more changes in the fall!
US (2:28:53)  Unlike World list, US list has TEN marks from 20th century!  Oldest is Patti Catalano's 2:27:51 from 1981.  Huddle will make this list!  Others could--if they run the distance!

3000SC
World (9:16.94)  Fourteen marks from this decade!  Two from 2016--so far!  Oldest from 2002, with next oldest from 2007!
US (9:40.83)  No mark older than 2004!!  Nine date from 2014-2016 period!  Aisha Praught's mark from before her change to Jamaican citizenship!   What MIGHT have been with Jenny Simpson!!
Collegiate (9:48.16)  THREE marks from 2016--so far!!  Five more date from 2015!  Should see more changes at NCAA's!
HS (10:52.92)  This list has just 12 marks!  HS'ers run mostly 2K Steeples--if they run them at all!!  But 6 of those dozen date from 2012 forward!  All it would take is ONE race, with 15 of the HS studs at 1500-5000, and BOOM!, a brand new list!!

100H
World (12.44)  25 on list, with 4 tied at 12.44.   Two marks from 1980.  Just 7 marks date from 2011 forward, with 6 of those by Americans.
US (12.63)  Oldest mark is by Heptathlon WR holder Jackie Joyner-Kersee--her 12.61 from 1988!  Only other mark from last century is one of those 12.63's--from 1998.  Dior Hall should make this list next year!
Collegiate (12.77)  25 on list, with two at 12.77.  Eleven date from 2012 forward!  Jasmine Camacho-Quinn an exciting newcomer!
HS (13.30)  FIVE 2016 marks (so far!!) make this the "Year of the 100H" for HS Women!!  They destroyed the INdoor 60H list, and they're doing the same to the OUTdoor 100H list!  And they ain't finished yet!!  Oh yes, besides those 5 from 2016, there's still 4 from 2015 on this list!!  Tonea Marshall could get the HSR!!

400H
World (53.24)  In a bit of a slump, as newest marks are from 2013.  Shamier Little could make this list.  And in the next 2 years, so can Sydney McLaughlin!!  Oldest mark is from 1986!
US (54.32)  Three made this list in 2015.  HS'er McLaughlin has a real shot THIS year!!  Watch for Jaide Stepter to, um, step up!!  (Pun very much intended!!)
Collegiate (55.04)  That slowest mark is by Kim Batten, from 1992!  Stepter might step in (LOL) here too!!
HS (57.80)  Four made this list last year, and all 4 are at it again this year!!  Debbie Esser's 1975 mark of 57.3 is the oldest!

HJ
World (6-7.50, or 2.02)  There's 28 on this list, with 5 tied at the bottom rung!  As with the Men, this event has gone downhill the past 2 years, as the newest mark is Brigetta Barrett's 6-8.25 from 2013!  (And she's nowhere to be found!!)  But Vashti Cunningham is exciting new blood, and MIGHT make this list THIS year--but surely next year!!  Stefka Kostadinova's WR is now 29 years old!!
US (6-4.25, or 1.94)  The 2 bottom marks are from 1985 & 1990!  But the oldest is Colleen Sommer's 6-6 from 1982.  Cunningham's already on this list, while still in HS.  Her mark came while still an Amateur--though that doesn't matter on this list!!  Liz Patterson is THIS close to making this list!
Collegiate  (6-2.75, or 1.90))  There's a 7 way tie at 23rd, making this list 30 deep!  Three of those marks are from the '80's!  Akela Jones's mark is from 2016!  Three of the top 4 marks are from the '90's!
HS (6-1.25, or 1.86)  Sixteen marks date from the previous century!  26 names fill out this list, with a 4 way tie at the bottom!  Since Cunningham's a Pro, there's NO Women at 6 feet or more!!

LJ
World (23-5.25, or 7.14) Only 2 Americans--Tianna Bartoletta & Brittney Reese--have made this list in this decade!  Eighteen marks date from 1982 to 1998!  But 7.14 is a VERY tough mark!  Watch for Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and maybe Christabel Nettey to make this list!
US (22-5.75, or 6.85)  Interesting to note that 10.80 sprinter Tori Bowie's 22-8 is 16th A-T!!  Kate Hall's HSR from 2015--22-5--misses this list by less than 1 inch!!  But she can make it--as a Georgia Bulldog!  Chaunte Lowe--HJ'er Supreme--is also on this list--just a quarter inch below Bowie!
Collegiate  (22-0.75, or 6.72)  Top 3 marks are from the '80's!  Bowie's on this list too--from 2012!  Hall will make this list!  So should TJ'er Deluxe Keturah Orji, who often doubles!  Bottom 3 marks are from the '90's!!  (Like an Oreo cookie--sort of!!)
HS  (20-10, or 6.35)  This list has 25 names!  The 2 tied at the bottom are from the '80's!  Courtney Corrin's 21-0 from 2013 remains the Frosh Class record!  She hasn't improved on it!

TJ
World (49-2.25, or 14.99)  The WR, and 7 other marks date from the 1990's!  Rising Star Yolimar Rojas should make this list!  The US is pathetic--even (or especially) when considering Orji's recent windy 47-11--which still leaves her over 15 inches short of this list!!
US  (45-5, or 13.84)  Orji's LEGAL mark of 46-6.75 puts her in the Top 10 here!  If that 47-11 hadn't been windy, she would have broken the AR by 6 inches!  Andrea Geubelle is moving up the list after a couple of off years!  But the US is still weak in this event!
Collegiate (45-0.50, or 13.73)  This list has 28 names, with 5 of them tied at the bottom!  Two of those bottom-feeders are from 2016, so that tie could be broken VERY soon!!  Two interesting names here are Blessing Okagbare, better known as a sprinter and LJ'er, and Ineta Radevica, who posed nude for Playboy in 2004!  The latter is 12th A-T, while the former is tied for 20th with 1 other!
HS  (42-7.50, or 12.99)  11th Grader Tara Davis made the list this year.  Titiana Marsh and recent Frosh Class record setter Jasmine Moore are ones to watch!  Better known as a sprinter in her day, Carlette Guidry's 1986 mark is the caboose here!  Wendy Brown, however, has the oldest mark, from 1984!

PV
World  (15-5.75, or 4.72)  FIVE marks from 2016--and 4 more from 2015!  And at least 3 more are lurking just around the bend (of their poles!, ha ha!!)--Wilma Murto, Megan Clark & Lexi Weeks!  Not to mention injured Demi Payne, one of the few 16 footers--albeit INdoors (so far) for her!  And Kylie Hutson--with a 15-5 PR from 2011--has been hitting some 15-plus heights recently!  Add her to the list!!
US (14-10, or 4.52)  Another revolution happening here!  Five from 2016, plus another 3 from 2015!  And a few not far from making it!  Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see this list comprised of ALL 15 footers by year's end!!  The two 14-10's are from 2016, as well as a 14-11 from 2015!  All 3 could be over 15 shortly!
Collegiate (14-6.75, or 4.44)  I'm a broken record in this event!!  Again, 9 from this year & last, with 6 more from 2013 & 2014!!  Somehow, 4 marks from the previous DECADE slipped in there!  And once again, there's several JUST off this list, waiting to pounce!!  However, newest HS 14 footer Rachel Baxter won't be in College until 2018--unless she turns Pro before that!!
HS  (13-7.25, or 4.15)  Here too, there's 13 marks dating from 2013 through this year, with 4 of those from 2016!  Tori & Lexi Weeks combined for 28-8.50 of PV'ing as twin HS'ers!  (Adding only their OUTdoor marks!!)

SP
World (69-7.50, or 21.22)  An extremely catatonic list, as only Valerie Adams is on here since 2000!!  And then, she's at a lowly 23rd position!!  Unless Christina Schwanitz hits a bomb, or Michelle Carter does the same, this list will REMAIN static!!  It may take 2 to 4 more years, but I believe Raven Saunders has a shot to reach these heights!
US (60-6.75, or 18.46)  While not hitting the distances needed for the World list, this list has seen LOTS more activity than the World list has!!  Three marks are from 2016, with 4 more dating from 2015!!  But Maren Seidler remains in the Top 10 from 1979!
Collegiate (58-8.75, or 17.90)  Saunders and Kelsey Card have made the list this year.  Meg Ritchie's 1983 CR might not be long for this world!!  That's this list's oldest mark--by 11 years!
HS (51-10.75, or 15.81)  Ten marks date from 2012 through 2016!  The Women here throw the same weight as the Pro's, which bodes well for the Collegiate scene next year!

DT
World (230-9, or 70.34)  Another inert list!  But Sandra Perkovic and Denia Caballero have made a couple of dents!  But the other 22 marks date from 1976 to 1992!!
US  (200-9, or 61.19)  Very different from the World list, as 2 Women's marks date from 2016, with 4 more from 2014 and 2015!  Lorna Griffin's 207-5 from 1980 is the oldest!!  If the bottom pair can be eliminated, the 24th place mark would shoot up to 203-2!!
Collegiate  (197-5, or 60.18)  Kelsey Card, Hannah Carson, and Tera Novy all have 2016 marks!!  A couple of others are in range!  But all 5 marks over 212-0 are from the 20th century!
HS  (175-8, or 53.55)  Leslie Deniz's mark dates from 1980!  But Elena Bruckner's is from this year!  Just 6 marks from this decade!

JT
World  (215-7, or 65.72)  With the new implement, this is an all-21st century event!  That said, of the Top 5 marks, the newest of those dates from 2011.  Three marks date from 2015.  If Carson continues on her upward spiral, she might make this list in 2017!!  Same with Card!
US (185-8, or 56.60)  The 24th place mark is Madison Wiltrout's HSR from 2015!!  Eleven marks date from the last 3 years--2014-2016!  Maggie Malone & Carson are 2 feet or less from becoming the 5th & 6th 200 footers on the US list!!
Collegiate  (183-8, or 55.99)  FOUR marks from 2016--so far!!  But Wiltrout is still 2 years away from becoming a Collegian--if she can regain her form!!
HS  (162-4, or 49.48)  Sophia Rivera, a multi-implement thrower, has the lone 2016 mark thus far!  (And it's 3rd on the list!!)  The 2 Montgomery's on the list are NOT related!  But Katelyn Gochenour's older sister is up-and-coming Collegiate Heptathlete Alex!!

HT
World  (245-3, or 74.76)  A fairly progressive event, from WR holder Anita Wlodarczyk down to new list entrant Gwen Berry's 2016 PR of 246-5 in 21st place!  Only 1 mark remains from the previous century!  Depth, however, was missing last year, and thus far in 2016!  Maybe Rio will push things forward again!
US  (225-10, or 68.84)  Berry & DeAnna Price make the list this year!  Oldest mark is Dawn Ellerbe's 2001 mark of 231-8.
Collegiate  (220-6, or 67.21)  Price is number 2 now, but the only one from 2016!  Fourteen others join her on the list from this decade!!
HS  (182-0, or 55.48)  Another hot event, the list welcomed 3 so far this year!  Hammer marks from HS'ers don't usually show up strong until season's end, so we may see 1 or 2 more enter the list!

Heptathlon
World   (6702)  KJT should get on the list soon--perhaps at Gotzis!!  Don't be too shocked to see mega-talented Brit Morgan Lake tally up a list-making score!!  That said, the newest mark here is from Brianne Thiesen-Eaton from 2015, and the newest before that was Jessica Ennis-Hill's from 2012!  Ramona Neubert's 6935 score ffom 1983 is the oldest!  Watch for Akela Jones!
US  (6188)  Four marks date from 2015.  And 2 of those still compete Collegiately!!  Barbara Nwaba had the top score in '15 at 6500, but she may not be the best!!  Chaunte Lowe just tried the Hept, but quit after the 1st day, saying she "messed up".  Well, if scoring 3558 points on your 1st day is "messed up", I wonder what a GOOD day is for her!!
Collegiate  (6011)  Eight from 2015, and 1 added this year!  A truly dynamic event for the College gang!!  This year's NCAA should be a doozy!!
HS  (5198)  Eleven from this decade, with the oldest 2 (from 1982 & 1988) heading out the back door in the next couple of years!  Diana & Julie Pickler are sisters, and rank 7th & 10th A-T, respectively, their marks dating from 2001 & 2002!

Relays
World  (43.04 & 3:27.08)  As with the Men, list is Nations only!!
Collegiate  (43.60 & 3:29.41 & 11:09.50 for the DMR)

WHEW!!!!
I'm done????
Yes, wiped out!!
Enjoy!

Those DDD's---the Men

What are "DDD"'s?
They are my "Double Dandy Dozen" (DDD) lists of the Top 24 All-Time Performers in 4 categories--World, US, Collegiate, and HS.
I have completely separate DDD's for INdoor Top 24's, but this (& the next post) is all about the OUTdoor DDD's.
I will go event-by-event, listing the 24th place mark (minimum needed to make the list!), list some names who MIGHT make the list this year or next, and add any needed commentary.
I'm doing Men and Women in separate posts, due to length!

100
World (9.87)  9 marks left from 20th century!  Andre De Grasse & Femi Ogunode likely to make it soon!
US (9.94)  9 marks from past century here too!  Ameer Webb strong candidate!
Collegiate (10.01)  Tevin Hester & Ronnie Baker!
HS (10.25)Two athletes from 1976 still on list!!  Watch for Tyrese Cooper, but not till 2017??

200
World (19.85)  Again, De Grasse & Ogunode!  Long shot might be HS'er Noah Lyles!!  Webb's tied with 3 others at bottom of list!  400 man LaShawn Merritt just made the list!!  Tommie Smith still on list in 21st from 1968!!
US (19.97) Again, watch for Lyles here too!  Will Bromell run the 200 soon?  Smith on this list too, from '68!  Here, he's 12th A-T!!
Collegiate (20.10)  Hester.  Since they're not going Pro, both Lyles brothers can make it in 2017.
HS (20.58)  If he wasn't injured, I'd put Josephus Lyles as a candidate!  Ty Cooper for sure!!  Dwayne Evans still on list from 1976!

400
World (44.17)  Mark was 44.24 just 2 years ago!  7 athletes from '14 & '15 on list--none yet dated 2016!  David Verburg & Bralon Taplin strong candidates.  If only Usain Bolt liked the 400!!!  Might be TWO years away, but young Mr Cooper can get there!  Lee Evans & Larry James on here from '68!
US (44.34)  Besides Evans & James, Wayne Collett & Fred Newhouse from '72 on this list!!  Cooper should make it, but maybe not until 2018!  Both Lyles brothers!  Verburg & Taplin.
Collegiate (44.62)  Still believe Michael Cherry has WORLD Class potential!  Next year, watch for both the Lyles!
HS (45.71) Noah's not on here yet!  Neither is Cooper.  Oldest mark is from 1979, with 7 more from the 80's!

800
World (1:42.82)  Four of these marks still date from London OG race!!  IAAF Prez Coe high on list from '81!  If Nick Symmonds can reach his '12 form, has a chance!  Duane Solomon is 24th!
US (1:44.54)  Donovan Brazier & Shaquille Walker!  Jim Ryun on here from 1966!  Dave Wottle from '72!  Also Rick Wohlhuter from '74!!
Collegiate (1:45.3)  Last place is Byron Dyce from 1969!!  But Ryun's 1:44.2 leads the list from '66!!  This is a strong 800 year in this category, so watch for probable changes to come!  Hector Hernandez?
HS (1:48.52)  Four sub-1:49's this year so far, but just Mike Slagowski's 1:48.36 makes the list!  Will Drew Hunter and the other 2 make it also?  Two left from the '70's!

1500 & 1 Mile (NO 1600's, or times converted from them!!)
World (3:29.66 & 3:48.50)  Nick Willis is the caboose in the 1500.  Matthew Centrowitz should make both lists!  9 marks date from '13, '14 & '15 on 1500 list.  Asbel Kiprop is 24th on Mile list & should move up!  (To 1st??)
US (3:34.15 & 3:52.42)  Galen Rupp is 24th & Garrett Heath is 23rd on 1500 list!  Will former (Grant Fisher & Matthew Maton) & present (Slagowski & Hunter) HS'ers make this list by end of 2017?  Christian Soratos?
Collegiate (3:37.33 & 3:57.6)  With NCAA due to race Mile more next year, 24th could get a LOT tougher in '17!  Fisher & Maton still to make lists!  Hunter & Slagowski in '17??  5 marks on 1500 list from '70's!  MUCH worse on Mile list--FIVE from '60's, with EIGHT more from '70's!!
HS (3:45.74 & 4:02.70)  If HS'ers were timed enroute during fast Mile races, the 1500 list would be much tougher to make!!  But only some do!  Ryun & Gerry Lindgren on 1500 list from 1964, Lindgren on Mile list from '64, while Ryun's best dates from '65.  Marty Liquori & Tim Danielson also on Mile list from '60's!  9 Mile marks from this decade!

3000 & 2 Mile (No Collegiate lists, and NO 3200's, or times converted from them!)
World (7:29.00 & 8:13.47) That 7:29 is equal to about 8:02 for the Deuce, so latter list needs drastic revision!  Newest 3K marks are from 2011.  Nothing since!!  Only Mo Farah's 8:07.85 from '14 from this decade!!
US (7:40.78 & 8:24.14)  7:40 equal to about 8:13!  Again, drastic revision possible!  When Ed Cheserek becomes a US citizen...!!  Centro can make both lists!
HS (8:13.27 & 8:46.99)  Obviously, if I included 1600 & 3200 conversions, Deuce list might be LOTS different!  Slagowski & Austin Tamagno might make the lists!  A few others close!  Watch the Brooks PR & NBN races!

5000 & 10000
World (12:51.35 & 26:49.90)  Six athletes got their marks here from Paris DL race of 2012!  But newest mark is Edwin Soi's 24th placer from 2013!!  Farah SHOULD be on 5K list, but isn't!  Latest marks are 2 years old on 10K list!  Geoff Kamworor?  Maybe even Ben True??
US (13:13.49 & 27:41.54)  Two from 1982 on 5K list--Centro's Dad & Alberto Salazar!!  Bruce Bickford, from '85, brings up the rear in the shorter race!  Craig Virgin's 1980 10K still 11th on list!!  Again, when King Ches becomes a US citizen....!!  Add some young Collegians, like Fisher & Maton, as well as Colby Gilbert!!
Collegiate (13:25.38 & 27:58.3)  Henry Rono's Soph Class record (when he was 26!!) heads the 5K list (& is 16th on 10K DDD!).  A few Collegians close to 5K list, but I doubt they'll run fast at Regionals or NCAA's!  Ches NOT on 10K list!!  One from 2016 on each list!
HS (14:16.2 & 30:30.2)  PLEASE---someone bring top HS'ers together for Time Trial races!!  13 athletes have marks on 5K list from 1980 or earlier!!  MUCH worse on 10K list--19 marks from 1985 or earlier!!

Marathon (Only World & US lists!!)
World (2:04:50)  Amazing transformation!!  OLDEST mark is from 2008!! 21 date from 2011 to 2016!!
Berlin, Chicago, NY & Fukuoka still to come!!  (Rio probably slow--comparatively!!)  Will Rupp make this list??  Farah?
US (2:10:26)  ELEVEN marks date from 1979-1983 period!  And that's with Boston included!!  Puskedra's 2015 Chicago race is 23rd on list!  Again, Rupp should make it!  Other track guys can do it--IF they run the distance!!

3000SC
World (8:04.95)  Simon Vroeman's Age 36 record is 24th on list!  Five marks date from 1997--only ones from 20th century!
US (8:19.98)  That slowest mark is from 1986, but Doug Brown's 8:19.29 is from 1978!  Will the Trials race produce some changes?
Collegiate (8:26.83)  Over half the list dates from '70's & '80's!!  Again, Rono's SOPH Class record (at Age 26!!!) heads this list!!  Mason Ferlic less than 2 seconds from 24th!
HS (9:11.24) Still amazing, to me, that Cheserek holds Soph Class record with his 9:00.11 from 2011.  What could he have done if he'd pursued this event the next 2 years of HS??  Frosh Class record just fell, but it's just 9:38.00, so long way to this list!!

110H (HS list is for 39 inch hurdles!)
World (13.02)  Six on list from 2014-2015.  Twenty marks are sub-13!  Renaldo Nehemiah's 12.93 from '81 still 9th A-T!!
US (13.16)  Devon Allen is that 13.16 mark!  He should improve!  Nehemiah & Greg Foster date from '81!
Collegiate (13.36)  Nehemiah's leader from 1979 & Foster's 7th placer from '78!  2nd, 3rd & 4th placers all from 2014!
HS (13.46)  25 on list, with final 4 at 13.46!  Why isn't Grant Holloway on this list yet??

400H
World (47.72)  Nicholas Bett should make this list!  But top 6 marks date from previous century!  This event in a slump!  But some young ones running fast times!  (Jaheel Hyde?)
US (48.24) Drought here too!  Newest mark from 2013!  Norman Grimes still in HS, but maybe in 2017 or 2018?
Collegiate (48.61)  Four on list from 1982 & earlier!  Just 3 from this decade!
HS (50.61)  Bob Bornkessel's 49.8 from 1968 still 7th place!!  Taylor McLaughlin (Sydney's older brother) is 16th on list!!  Will Holloway make this list?

HJ
World (7-9.75, or 2.38)  25 on list, with last 10 at 2.38!!  Five date from 2014, "Year of the HJ"!!  Erik Kynard can make this list!  But 2015 (& 2016??) slump may slow list revision!!  Oldest mark is from 1984!
US (7-7.75, or 2.33)  As with World DDD, 25 on this list, with 7 tied at 2.33!  Two HS'ers at 7-4 or higher this year.  Promising!!
Collegiate (7-7, or 2.31)  27 on this list, with final 7 at 7-7 (Lucky numbers??!!).  Dwight Stones, from 1976, one of those at 7-7!!  Franklin Jacobs also on list, from 1978!  Those 2 HS'ers--next year??
HS (7-3.50, or 2.22)  As already noted, 2 additions from 2016 here!  However, next "newest" is from 2010!!  16 are from last century!

LJ
World (27-10.25, or 8.49)  Only one 28 footer from this decade!  Last 29 footer was in 1991.  However, a slight comeback seems near, as 3 marks date from last 2 years!  25 on this list also, with 4 tied at bottom!
US (27-6.25, or 8.39)  Some movement here too, as 4 marks are from 2014-2016!  Bob Beamon's 1968 leap will be on this list forever!!
Collegiate (26-11.75, or 8.22)  Ralph Boston was born in 1939!!  His 1961 mark still ranks 18th, tied with 3 others!  The 24th placer is from this year!  He'd better add a few inches if he wants to remain here awhile!
HS (25-8.75, or 7.84)  Holloway's on the list, but just at the tail end (tied with 1 other).  Two marks from the late '60's!!

TJ
World (58-3, or 17.75)  Will Claye is one of 3 at 58-3 at the bottom!  But Christian Taylor, Pablo Pichardo, and Teddy Tamgho are 3 of 5 at 59 feet or farther!  Joao De Oliveira's 58-8.25 is from 1975!
US (56-4.75, or 17.19)  Four athletes share the lowest mark, with 25 on list!  All of those are from the 20th century!!  Five marks are from 2013 onward.  No one not already on list seem to have potential to make 56-5!
Collegiate (55-8.25, or 16.97)  Ron Livers, Willie Banks, and Nate Cooper are from the late '70's!  Leading 2016 mark is 8 inches shy of list!!
HS (52-5.75, or 15.99)  Except for Ja Mari Ward's 53-7.50 this year, the newest mark is from 2010, with 3 dating from the '70's, with 18 from 2000 and before!!

PV
World (19-5.50, or 5.93)  Sam Kendricks just reached 19-5, so he's a prime candidate for this list!!  Shawn Barber's one of 3 at the bottom rung, and needs to break out of his slump to remain here!  When will Renaud Lavillenie break Sergey Bubka's OUTdoor WR??  He's still 3.50 inches short!!  How many years before Adam Hague & Mondo Duplantis make this list??
US (19-0.25, or 5.80)  There are 32 on this list, with NINE tied at 19-0.25!!  Devin King is climbing the ladder, but still 4 inches short!  Audie Wyatt's another one to watch!  Seven of those 9 at 19-0.25 date from 2000 & earlier!!
Collegiate (18-8.25, or 5.70)  Just 24 on this Top 24 list, but final 7 are tied at the 5.70 figure, with King being one of them!  Just 8 have reached 19 feet or higher!  Wyatt next to join??
HS (17-6.50, or 5.35)  Ten on list from this decade, with 2 of those 2016 marks!  So far!!  Duplantis still 2.50 inches short of his INdoor best!  Two Duplantis's, two Dial's, and 2 Bray's make this list as Father & Son acts!!

SP (HS list is for 12 pounder!)
World (72-0.75, or 21.96)  Much more "modern" than the Women's list, but 13 still remain from previous century!  Six are from this decade!  Ryan Crouser should make this list soon!  Maybe Kurt Roberts & O'Dayne Richards too!
US (70-10.50, or 21.60)  Randy Matson remains here from 1967!!  And he was in College then!!  Crouser & Roberts are soon to join!
Collegiate (67-7, or 20.60)  Matson's mark still ranks 8th A-T!!  Seven from this decade, but none from 2016 so far!
HS (70-6, or 21.49)  Before 2016 began, you could still make this list with a Put of less than 70-0!!  Not now!!  FOUR guys made it in 2016!!  So far!  For the Men, this is the "Year of the SP" for HS'ers!!  Not only that, but Jordan Geist has gotten closer than any other 11th Grader to Michael Carter's iconic HSR of 81-3.50!!  Can he??  Really--can he (in 2017)??

DT (Again, HS weight Discus!)
World (229-4, or 69-90)  Eleven are from 1980 to 1988 period!  Piotr Malachowski's 235-8 from 2013  more an anomaly than a trend!
US (218-11, or 66.73)  Half of this list are from the '70's & '80's!! Sam Mattis hasn't approached his early season 221-3, but he's the first to make this list since 2011.
Collegiate (211-9, or 64.55)  Matson makes this list, also from 1967!!    The 2 tied at 211-9 are from 1982 and 1995!
HS (211-5, or 64.45)  One from 2016 already!  Might be more.  Tripp Piperi, one of those 70+ SP guys, has reached 204!

JT  (HS list is with Pro implement!)
World (289-11, or 88.37)  Seven marks date from 2013 forward!  None dated this year--yet!  No current American is close to making this list!  Once the bottom mark is eliminated, list jumps to 291-2!!
US (263-1, or 80.19)  Six marks are from 2013 forward!  Two Crousers make this list!!
Collegiate (258-6, or 78-80)  Two from 2016!!  Another 2 from 2015!  Five of bottom 6 are from the 20th century!
HS (222-3, or 67-75)  Eleven date from 2010 onward!  Could add to total by August 31st!

HT (HS list is for HS implement!)
World (270-11, or 82.59)  Just above 24th are 3 tied at 271-1.  Only Krisztian Pars & Pawel Fajdek date from this decade!  Lance Deal's US record isn't on this list!!
US (243-11, or  74.35)  There's 26 on this list, with 3 tied at the lowest mark, including Ed Burke from 1984!  Rudy Winkler finally made this list!!
Collegiate (241-4, or 73.57)  Three guys have marks from this year!!  Balasz Kiss's 268-10 CR is a full ELEVEN FEET ahead of 2nd best!!  Winkler has this year and next to close the gap!
HS (230-1, or 70.13)  Manny Silverio's mark dates from 40 years ago!  Nine marks date from 2013 onward!  The 2 bottom marks are from the '90's!

Decathlon (HS list is with Pro implements, hurdle heights, etc!)
World (8654)  Damian Warner made this list in 2015.  Besides Ashton Eaton's WR improvement, Warner's was the only mark added last year!  Can Grenada's Lindon Victor add 208 more points to his last 1000 (!!) point improvement he made recently??  Wouldn't bet against it!
US (8268)  Bill Toomey's 8309 score dates from 1969, while BRUCE Jenner's mark is from 1976!!  Two unrelated Williams's--Harrison & Devon--might be the next to join this list!
Collegiate  (8116)  Speaking of Devon, he's in 24th place here!!
HS (6860W)  I normally depend on Jack Shepard's HS Track book to separate the "adult" Dec from the HS Dec, so this list MIGHT not be entirely accurate!!  That said, there doesn't seem to be much progress here!  Most of the list has marks with a year beginning with 19!!

I'll just list the 24th place marks for the Relays--no commentary!

World (38.47 & 3:01.12)  (For Nations only!  No club, All-Star, or College teams!)
Collegiate (39.12 & 3:02.47 & 9:40.12 for the DMR)

Sorry for the length, but I didn't want to make this a 3 or 4 post monster!!
Women's DDD's are next---a few hours from now!!

The Conferences--All That Matters

For most fans of Collegiate T&F, it's "Rah Rah Rah for the Home Team!".
All the individual athletes do is score points for their team, to help make them Conference Champion, and maybe later, National Champion!
Not here, not me!
In this blog, my ONLY interest is how fast an athlete runs, how far they throw things, and how high or far they jump!
Points?  Blah!
Team winners?  Sorry!
As the following will show, there's more than enough news of Top 24 A-T Marks and all sorts of Records broken to keep me--and my millions of readers (Snicker!)--busy!

And none were more remarkable---or least shocking (To me, at least!)--than Keturah Orji's MASSIVE leap forward in the Triple Jump!
Yes, it was wind-aided, but this is SERIOUS, folks!!
The startlingly talented Georgia Soph TJ'ed 47-11 to win the SEC title!
It had a 2.9 wind, but if legal, would have broken the American Record by 6 inches!
As it turned out, her earlier jump of 46-6.75 was legal, and an OUTdoor PR!
(That was more than a foot and a half ahead of the 2nd placer!!  The 47-11 was almost 3 feet ahead!!)
It;s the SEC Meet Record.
It moves her from 4th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others, to 4th, but with no ties!!
She also moves from 9th to 7th A-T US!
Watch this woman fly!
A LEGAL 47-11 isn't out of reach!

BTW, that 2nd placer was Simone Charley, whose 45-0.50 gave her 24th place on the A-T Collegiate list, tied with 3 others!

Once again, Field events were strong across the board.
Kelsey Card continued to rack up street cred.
She nabbed TWO Big 10 Meet Records.
Her DT mark of 204-2 was a PR, and moves her up one spot on the Collegiate list, from 11th to 10th.
She remains 18th on the US list!
While not a PR, her SP mark of 59-9.50 got the MR.

The SEC Women's JT winner was Maggie Malone, her 195-2 the new Meet Record.
Behind her, Marija Kucenovic's 189-8 moves her from 20th A-T Collegiate to 18th.
Malone's mark wasn't a PR.

Raven Saunders totally dominated the SEC Shot Put, her winning mark of 60-11.50 another Meet Record!

In the Big 12 meet, Avione Allgood upset favored Hannah Carson, her JT mark of 192-11 good for the MR!
She moves from 15th to 11th on TWO different lists---the US and Collegiate DDD's!
Carson wasn't able to get past 186 feet!

While not a MR, or any record my T&F Record Book is normally concerned with, I must mention the Men's PV results at the ACC meet!
Virginia Tech's Men took the first SEVEN places!!
Their marks ranged from the winning 17-7.25 down to 7th placer 16-7.50!!
On the normal scoring system, that means they scored 38 points for VT!!!

Lexi Weeks zoomed over the PV bar set at 15-0---a non-PR, but enough to win the SEC.
She missed her 3 tries at 15-6.25!
The ACC saw a mild upset in their Women's PV, as Alysha Newman's clearance at 14-7.50 beat Duke's Megan Clark's best of 14-3.50!
In one of the lesser known Conferences, Morgann LeLeux continued her strong 2016 season, PR'ing slightly to 14-10.
She remains 9th A-T Collegiate, but becomes 24th A-T US, tied with 1 other!!
She missed her 3 attempts at 15-1.
Annie Rhodes won the Big 12 meet with a non-PR Vault of 14-5.50.
Finally (in the PV, that is!), Sydney Clute PR'ed at 14-6 to win the Big 10 meet, and get its Meet Record!!
She misses my Collegiate DDD by just 0.75 inches!!

Akela Jones's non-PR LJ of 22-1.75 gave her the Meet Record at the Big 12.
Der-Reme Freeman's 21-5.50 LJ gave her the ACC Meet Record.
Tierra Williams got the Big 10 MR with her TJ of 44-6.
Kellion Knibb nabbed the ACC Meet Record in the DT with her non-PR distance of 198-11.
Nick Miller, a British Hammer Thrower, got the Big 12 MR with his 245-5.
He moves from 17th to 13th on the A-T Collegiate list!
Stefan Brits---who I assume is NOT a Brit!! (pun intended!!)--LJ'ed 26-11.75 for the Meet Record of the ACC.
It also makes him 24th A-T Collegiate!
Nick Scarvelis's SP mark of 67-4.75 won the PAC 12, but fell 2.25 inches short of the Collegiate Top 24 Performers list--my DDD thingy!!
Finally--in the field events!--Avion Jones HJ'ed a US and Collegiate leading 7-7.
He's an East Carolina athlete.
This makes him 21st A-T Collegiate, tied with 6 others!!

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn is having HER year in the 100H.
Her SEC heat time of 12.80 missed the Collegiate Frosh Class record of Dior Hall by just 0.06 seconds, and missed the Collegiate DDD by 0.03!!
But not to worry!
She proceeded to win the final in a Frosh Class record time of 12.69, helped not much by a wind of 0.7.
It also got her the Age 19 record, as she won't turn 20 until August 21st!
It makes her 12th A-T Collegiate!
But she falls 0.06 short of the US list!!

Devon Allen ran a PAC 12 Meet Record--in his HEAT!!
His 110H time of 13.32 makes him 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!

In the 400H, Shamier Little's non-PR time of 54.72 easily took the SEC title, but not the MR!!
Eric Futch ran 49.24, but can't remember where!
Alexis Franklin got the Big 10 MR by winning in 55.66.

In other sprint action, Felicia Brown won her SEC 200 heat in a speedy 22.19.
Too bad it had a 2.6 wind attached to it!!
Then, in the final---AGAINST a wind of 1.3!!--she ran 22.26!!
This makes her 8th A-T Collegiate!
She misses the US list by a mere 0.03 seconds!!
(It shows the strength of the SEC that it's NOT a Meet Record!!)
Taylor Ellis-Watson moved down in distance to finish 2nd in 22.48.
She misses the Collegiate DDD by that self-same 0.03 seconds!!
Jada Martin's 22.60 was 3rd!
But Ellis-Watson won the SEC 400 in a non-PR 50.81.
Felicia Majors was 2nd in 51.29.

Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake blazed a 19.95 in his 200 race, wind of 0.4.
This makes him 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other.
It also places him 2nd on the A-T list of Great Britain, according to a source!
Renard Howell was 2nd in 20.15.
Howell misses the Collegiate DDD by 0.05 seconds!

Hannah Cunliffe had a solid meet at the PAC 12.
She won the 100 and 200, her fastest 100 coming in the heats--11.08.
Her 200 was a PR, her 22.49 being run INTO a wind of 1.1.
The longer distance is the PAC 12 Meet Record!
She misses the Collegiate DDD by 0.04!!
She also ran on UO's 4X100 Relay winner of 42.71.
That was another Meet Record!!
BTW, Jasmine Todd didn't qualify for the final, finishing 10th overall in the 100 heats, time of 11.59.

As an aside, I'm willing to lay 75-25 odds that Ms Cunliffe follows the path set by Jenna Prandini last year, when, after a super successful year of sprinting for the Ducks, she signed a Pro contract immediately following the NCAA meet!!
I'm getting the sense that Cunliffe is thinking along the same lines!
She's already stated she's trying to compete for Italy in Rio, claiming some Great-Great-something or other had Italian roots!!
I've followed her on Twitter since her HS days, and I must say, she's a strange beautiful woman!!

Shakima Wimbley missed both of HER ACC Meet Records (!!), but won the 200 and 400 with times of 22.56 and 50.90.
Margaret Bamghose took 2nd in the 400 with her 51.11.
Courtney Okolo breezed to an easy Big 12 win in the 400 with her 50.76.
Tevin Hester's 20.13 in the ACC 200 gave him the MR.
But he misses the Collegiate Top 24 Performers list by 0.03 seconds!!
While NOT a Collegian anymore, I should mention here that Fran McCorory took the Guadeloupe 400 in 50.73.
(For more on the Guadeloupe meet, see my previous post!!)

Some 4X400 Relays were good for Record Book consideration!
Miami's Women took the ACC Meet Record with their 3:30.61 winner.
LSU's Men got the SEC Meet Record with their 3:00.48 winner.
The Men of Nebraska ran 3:03.74 for the Big 10 MR!
Iowa's Women's team ran 3:31.22 for the Meet Record at the Big 10.
In the 4X100 Relay, LSU got the SEC Meet Record with their 38.33.

As per normal in Conference meets, the middle and long distance events didn't produce much in the Records and Marks departments!
But there were some interesting developments.

Ed Cheserek won the PAC 12 10000 in a tortoise-speed 28:58 and change.
Then something akin to UFO sightings in New Mexico in the 1940's developed in the 5000.
I checked the results, and I SWEAR I saw Ches's name in about 35th place (!!) with a time of about 14:41 in the 5K.
Then I looked again a couple of minutes later.
His name was GONE!!
Later, I saw a thread on this on the Let's Run Forum, most of the comments saying the same thing I just said---that his name WAS there, then it wasn't!!
Now, I know that UFO sightings are a very, um, personal thing---read up on ANY tale of their sightings!!--but when several L-R folks say the EXACT same thing, the "evidence" demands some answers!
Ken Goe doesn't mention it in his Oregonian column!
Several others INSIST he didn't even start the 5K!!
Anywayyyyy, it looks as though Cheserek may have his foot BACK in the door for the NCAA!
That said, his Washington foe Colby Gilbert (Remember, he defeated Ches awhile back in a 5K!!) won that PAC 12 5000 in a good 13:35.20, about a 9 second PR!

Katie Knight took the Women's 10K in Eugene in a MR time of 33:20.02!!
Colorado's Erin Clark took the PAC 12 3000SC in the MR time of 9:48.72.
It's a PR for her, but she misses the Collegiate DDD by 0.56 seconds!!
The SEC also saw its 3000SC MR fall.
Jessica Kamilos ran 9:48.16.
She's now 24th A-T collegiate!
Cornelia Griesche was 2nd in 9:51.66, while Devin Clark was 3rd in 9:54.83.
Megan Moye ran the fastest Collegiate 1500 of 2016, her 4:11.91 nabbing the ACC Meet Record!
BTW, that record belonged to one Shalane Flanagan, her record set in 2003!!

Sam Affolder--brother of Noah--ran 9:38.00 in the 3000SC for the HS Frosh Class record!!
The PAC 12 1500's were won by Elise Cranny (4:17.72) and Izaic Yorks (3:39.14).
But it was 2nd placer (in the Men's race) Matthew Maton who gave the race some juice!
His 3:39.97 in 2nd was a PR by a couple of seconds, maybe 3!!
The SEC Men's 800 was a good race, if not spectacularly fast!
Brandon McBride took the Gold with 1:45.68, while Hector Hernandez's 1:46.15 nipped Donovan Brazier's 1:46.19 for 2nd!
The ACC Women's 800 was also a good race.
Hanna Green ran 2:02.45, edging Anima Banks, who ran 2:02.50!

In a race of Professionals in the Portland Twilight meet, Kate Grace ran her first 800 in 2 years, winning in 2:00.05.
Second--in the PR time of 2:00.99--was Alexa Efraimson!!
Shelby Houlihan's 2:01.56 took 3rd, with Justine Fedronic's 2:01.99 in 4th!!
In a separate race, Jordan Hasay finished in 5th place with a sluggish 2:11.18.

I should mention here that Molly Seidel is out of the NCAA (and most likely, the Olympic Trials as well) with a sacral stress fracture!

The Multi's produced some good marks.
The best of those was Lindon Victor's AMAZING 1000 point PR (!!!!) in the Decathlon at the SEC!!
His point total of 8446 saw him PR in 7 or 8 of the 10 events, to also nab Kurt Felix's National Record of Grenada!!!
It makes him 4th A-T Collegiate!!
And his competition wasn't exactly a group of ragdolls!!
Maicel Uibo scored 8316, but wasn't a match for this out-of-nowhere attack!!
Devon Williams PR'ed in 3rd, his 8116 making him 24th A-T Collegiate!!

Erica Bougard scored 6170 to take SEC's Heptathlon.
Annie Kunz's PR of 5976 in 2nd misses my DDD by 35 points!
Next in line came Payton Stumbaugh's 5955, followed by Taliyah Brooks's 5855 and Alex Gochenour's 5804.
Amelie Iuel took the PAC 12 Hept--held a week ago--with 6011 points, for 24th place on the A-T Collegiate list!

And FINALLY, I should mention Chaunte Lowe's experience, as revealed to me in a Tweet!
She said she paid her own way to Rio to compete in an Olympic test event there!!
She HJ'ed 6-5 for the World leading mark!
But she also apparently started a Heptathlon!!!
She Tweeted that she "blew the 1st day, so I will have to try again another time"!!!
Could Ms Lowe be America's next great Heptathlete, even at Age 32???
(I Tweeted back that she should consider doing Talence after the Olympics.  Haven't heard back from her on that---yet!!)

Had enough for one post---or one WEEK??
Well, sorry, but I want to give you some more numbers!!
Hang in there!!

After all the above Marks were entered on my various DDD's, I counted the 2016 totals for my 4 categories (World, US, Collegiate, HS) to see where the season stood.
As you know, I normally get a final count of between 300 and 400 marks each year.
With all the major meets yet to occur, the numbers are as follows.

World Men have 7 marks dating from 2016.
World Women have 12.

US Men total 8.
US Women have 24 so far!

Collegiate Men have 18 marks dated 2016.
Collegiate Women double that with 36.

And HS Men have 12.
HS Women have 22.

Men's total 45.
Women's total 94.

The Grand Total is 139!!

See you later this week, as there's a couple of significant European meets coming up!
