Roads & Tracks (Paths to Perfection)

This post has loads of roads (Road Races, silly! LOL), so let's start there!!

A triple dip in Road distances happened in France!
The 5K for Men was won by Telehun Haile in 13:10, while the Women's race went to Fantu Worku's 14:47!
The Men's 10K was won by Kenneth Renju, his 26:57 beating the 27:00 by Yasir Haji!
Faith Cherono took the Women's race in 31:06!
They had the same time--59:37--but Andrew Rotich was given the Half win over Kibiwot Kandie!
Zenebu Fikadu took the Women's race in 66:57!

A trio of Spring Marathons---
Daegu's Men's race was won by Shifera Tamru's 2:06:31!
Naznet Weldu won the Women's division in 2:21:56!
That's the National Record for Eritrea!
The Milan Marathon went to the 2:05:05 by Titrus Kibiego!
Second was Daniel Kibet's 2:05:20!
Vivian Kiplagat took the Women's race in 2:20:18!

The Paris Marathon was taken by Chulu Deso's 2:05:07!
It was close, as 2nd went to the 2:05:10 by Seifu Tura!
Morhad Amdouni was 3rd in 2:05:22, but it got him the NR of France!!
Judith Korir took the Women's race in 2:19:48!
Back in 10th was Lindsey Flanagan, whose 2:26:54 misses the US list by one second!!

One more Marathon note, and it's rare!
A High Schooler (Tim Synowiec) ran 2:22:50 in the Maryland Marathon!
His time is the HSR, breaking the record set by Clancy Devery in 1977--2:23:05!!

I've always said my blog would cover ALL of T&F, including XC and the Walks!
However, as you know, I give fairly small attention to Cross Country, as the times don't fit my criteria of accuracy, due to the differing course terrains!
As for Walks, I've also pretty much ignored them over the years!
That has changed!
I've begun A-T lists for the 20K, the 35K, and the 50K--for Men and Women, and for the World and US!
They're just Top 10's for now, but at least it's a beginning!
To that end, some great marks came from the Podebrady, Czech Republic 20K's, especially for the United States!
The Men's race was won by Caio Bonfim (sp??), time of 1:18:54!
Nick Christie finished just 19th, but his big PR of 1:22:44 makes him 6th A-T US!
In 23rd came Dan Nenevaj, his PR of 1:23:10 making him 7th A-T US!!

The Women's race went to Valeria Ortuno's 1:29:25!
But in 12th came American Robyn Stevens, with yet another huge PR!
Her 1:32:15 makes her 4th A-T US!

There were some good marks on the various tracks and fields of the world also!
In Kenya, Ferdidand Omurwa sprinted a 100 in 10.00!
The Florida Relays offered some solid sprint times!
In separate races, Joseph Fahnbullah ran the 200 in 20.22, while Jacory Patterson ran 20.20!
Also in separate races, Abby Steiner timed 11.10 for her Century, while Aleia Hobbs's time was 11.06!
Kentucky's Men and Women took the 4 x 400's, respective times of 3:02.21 and 3:26.99!

Jenn SUHR did it!
She shattered the Age 40 Record in the Pole Vault, going over 14-9!!
But she lost to the 14-9 by Ekaterina Stefanidi!
Brittany Brown sped a 100 in 10.99 in this Baylor meet!

The dual meet between Texas and Texas A&M broke several Dual Meet Records!!
Texas's 4 X 400 in 3:02.33 was one of them!
Julien Alfred's 11.07 tied the Dual Meet Record!
Another DMR (not the Distance Medley Relay!  LOL) went to Laila Owens's 200 of 22.57!
Tyra Gittens's winning HJ of 6-4.75 was another!
She beat the 6-4 by Lamara Distin!
Finally (for Dual Meet Records), we have the fast improving Charokee Young!
Her one lapper in 50.00 is also the Soph Class Record, and ranks her 5th A-T Collegiate!!

No records, but other good marks from the same meet--
Seasons Usual won the DT with her 195-2!
Devin Achane's 20.20 won the 200!
Tripp Piperi won the Shot Put with 70-7.75!
Jonathan Jones sped a lap in 45.07!
Kylah Robinson won the 100H in 12.80!
And Deborah Acquah LJ'ed 22-7.25, making her 7th A-T Collegiate!!

A meet at Stanford saw a bunch of good distance times--as usual!
The best--by far!!--was in a losing position!!
While Molly Grabill won the Women's 5000 in 15:22.97, it was the 3rd place mark that got the headlines!
Natalie Cook continued her amazing season by SMASHING the OUTdoor HSR with her 15:25.93!
It's also the Senior Class Record!
That's about 4:56 per mile for 3.1 miles!!

Ky Robinson took the Men's race in 13:23.61.
It beat the 13:24.68 by Charles Hicks, and the 13:27.02 by Cole Sprout!
Lauren Gregory won the 10000 in 32:34.21.
HS'er Rheinhardt Harrison timed 1:49.25 over 800 meters!
Frosh Sadie Englehardt PR'ed at 800 in 2:05.66.
And in the Hammer Throw, Camryn Rogers reached 243-4!

Jasmine Camacho Quinn's 12.67 in the USATF Bermuda Games was a solid mark!
But what if I told you it was run INTO a wind of 2.5??!!
Wow!

A Chula Vista meet (Where else?) saw Daniel Stahl and Rachel Dincoff win the DT's, respective marks of 226-9 and 201-3!
In a Mississippi meet, Cade Flatt finished in 2nd, but his 800 of 1:47.04 blew away his PR, and makes him 3rd A-T HS!!

A Louisiana meet had a gaggle of solid marks--
Tyler Johnson ran a 400 in 44.95!
Christian Coleman won the 200 in 20.25!
Masai Russell ran 12.75 over the 100H!
Kentucky's Women won the 4 X 100 in 42.46, beating LSU's 42.69!
And Abby Steiner won a 100 in 10.92!
It's the Junior Class Record, and makes her 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
In 2nd came Favour Ofili, her 11.00 making her 21st A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Steiner also ran 22.38 over half a lap!

In Tennessee, Estonia's Janek Oiglane scored 8405 points in the Decathlon, easily beating the 8133 by Kyle Garland!
Athing Mu jogged her 400 in 51.75!
Darrell Hill sent his SP out 69-8.75!
Jorinde Van Klinken did the same with her DT, her measurement being 204-8!
Brooke Anderson got the World Leader with her Hammer Throw of 253-6!

A bit more, so stay with me, my friends!

In Arizona, Iowa won the 4 X 400 Relay in 3:02.39!
TCU took the 4 X 100 in 38.95!
And Jenoah McKiver ran his 400 in 44.74!

In California, Daniel Stahl won the DT with 224-6!
Then we have the Dancing Discus Queen--Valarie Allman!
All she did was add a full foot to her own American Record--hitting the ground at 234-5!!
Not only is it the AR, but it's the farthest DT by a Woman in this Century!!
No one has thrown farther since 1992!!
She now ranks 16th A-T World!!

Mykolas Alekna continued his fine season with a DT measuring 213-2!
Camryn Rogers reached 245-5 with the Hammer Throw!
In 2nd was Anna Purchase's 231-8!
It makes her 13th A-T Collegiate!

We now move to Australia, where Cedric Dubler scored 8393 points in the Decathlon!
Jessica Hull ran the 5000 in 15:06.13!
Nicola McDermott HJ'ed 6-4.25!
And Liz Clay won the 100H in 12.72!
In 3rd came a once-familiar name in Australian--and world--lore!
Michelle Jenneke--she of the infamous starting line dance at the 2012 World Junior Championships that went viral--ran a pretty fair time of 13.05!
We haven't heard from her in awhile!
A bit surprised she's still at it!
But good to know she's back!!

Finally, in Japan, Tabitha Kamau won a 5000 in 15:03.51!

Like Ms Jenneke, I'll be back with another OUTdoor season round-up--soon!!

From Texas Relays to Eugene--The Drive Begins

It may not be a direct route, and some will take a different direction, but the traditional OUTdoor season opener in the United States--the Texas Relays--is always a good road map to follow if you're heading to Eugene for the World Championship Trials (aka USATF Championships) in just 3 months time!
Sadly,  this year's edition was again subject to the usual strong winds that often spoil the fast sprints that abound there!
First, however, a few other early season marks!

On March 18th, also in Texas, Valarie Allman let fly her Discus 223-6 to open her season!
In Arizona, Athing Mu also flew--around 600 meters of track--in 1:24.13!!
Another 200 at the same pace would bring her in under the 800 World Record!!
Avi Wilson-Perteete came 2nd in 1:28.02!
Fred Kerley ran one of his three "specialties"--hitting the line in 20.04 over half a lap!
The Texas A&M Men's 4 X 400 team ran their OUTdoor opener in 3:01.51!
The Women's team hit the line in 3:28.79!

If Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker were bicycle racers, they'd be riding tandem!!
At Stanford, Teare won the 5000 in 13:06.73, making him 19th A-T US!
Hocker wasn't far behind, his 13:08.55 making him 22nd A-T US!!

A pair of Caribbean nations had good marks to offer!
Ryan Sanchez got the Puerto Rico National Record with his 1:13.99 over 600 meters!
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, normally a hurdler, sprinted a 200 in 22.27 for the win!
Marileidy Paulino was 2nd in 22.70, but she got the National Record of the Dominican Republic!
Steven Gardiner took the 200 in a good 20.28!
In Cuba, Rose Almanza won the 800 in 1:58.60, not bad for March!!

On the Road, Rhonex Kipruto won the NYC Half in 60:30, beating the 60:37 by Ed Cheserek!
Shadrack Kipchirchir was first American, his 4th place 61:16 making him 19th A-T US!
The Women were led by Senbere Teferi's 67:35!
Irene Cheptai was 2nd in 67:37.
Back in 5th came Lindsay Flanagan, whose 69:50 makes her 22nd A-T US!!

A trio of strong HS marks also preceded the Texas Relays!
Rheinhardt Harrison opened with an 800 in 1:50.12 in California!
Also in California, but in that abomination they call the 3200, Sadie Englehardt timed 10:00.60 to transition from INdoors to OUTdoors!
Too bad it counts for nothing re records or lists!!
And Jordan Anthony sped over 200 meters in 20.52!
That was in Georgia!

The Texas Relays got an early 100 mark that gave indication the wind might not be a factor!
Ben Azamati sprinted his 100 heat in 9.90!!
It's the Texas Relays Meet Record, and makes him 4th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!!

Another Meet Record--in the Men's 4 X 400 Relay--went to the Tiger Olympians, time of 2:59.73!
Leo Neugebauer won the Decathlon with 8131 points!
Tripp Piperi's opening Shot (in the SP, of course!) was 70-8, giving him the Meet Record!
It makes him 13th A-T Collegiate!
Sondre Guttormsen picked up where he left off INdoors, flying over 18-10.25 in the PV!
This makes him 15th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
Vernon Turner HJ'ed 7-6.50!
Curtis Thompson took the JT with 263-11, but it was 2nd placer Zach Holland who got the Junior College Record with his 258-6!

I don't normally report wind-aided times, but these cry out for attention!
Gabby Thomas flew over 200 meters in 21.69--with the assistance of a 3.1 wind!
Tamara Clark was right behind with 21.72!!
The Women's USA Red team got a 50.26 anchor from Athing Mu to time out in 3:24.60!
Celera Barnes got a friendly wind of 2.8 to push her to a 10.82 in her 100 heat!
She took the final in 11.07!
Alia Armstrong also got an illegal wind to win the 100H in 12.33--still a great time despite the 2.5 breeze!

Britton Wilson wasn't a known factor in the 400H prior to her heat time of 54.65!!
Then she went and improved on that with her final of 54.37!
This makes her suddenly 10th A-T Collegiate!!

The Women's Pole Vault had good depth!
Bridget Williams (formerly Guy) won it with 15-5!
Also over that height was Emily Grove, whose 15-5 makes her 9th A-T US, tied with 5 others!
In 3rd was Kat Stefanidi's 15-3!
Lisa Gunnarsson also topped 15-3, making her 4th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
A newcomer (at least to me!) named Gabriela Leon took 5th, her 14-11 clearance making her 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

In the heats of the Women's 4 X 100 Relay, Texas's 42.42 made them 6th A-T School!
Behind them came Texas Tech's 43.11 in 3rd, making them 16th A-T School!
Texas won the final in 42.83!
Texas also won the 4 X 200, their 1:29.03 nabbing the Meet Record!

Yet another Texas team got yet another Relay Meet Record, their 3:22.94 making them 2nd A-T School in the 4 X 400!
Texas A&M was 2nd in 3:23.30!
Charokee Young's 3rd leg was timed in a fantastic 48.97!!
Arkansas was far behind, but their 3:26.40 was also worth noting!

The Texas Relays bring out the best from Texas-located teams, and this edition was no exception!
The Women's Sprint Medley Relay saw an exciting finish lead to a crash landing for A&M's anchor!
She was behind coming onto the last straight, but literally dove past Texas's anchor to win, and get the Collegiate Record, their time of 3:28.93 nipping Texas's 3:28.95!!
It served also as the Meet Record!

Another MR went to Texas's DMR team, their 10:59.91 making them 14th A-T School!
LSU took 2nd, their 11:02.45 making them 20th A-T School!
Lamara Distin--coming off a strong INdoor season--took the HJ with her 6-5, also a Meet Record!
She now ranks 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!

Anna Hall showed she'll be a factor in Eugene's USATF meet (assuming she tries for the team!!), scoring 6412 points in the Heptathlon!
It's the Meet Record and the Soph Class Record!!
She ranks 4th A-T Collegiate, and 14th A-T US!!

The Collegiate section of the Women's PV went to Olivia Leuking's 14-7.25!
But the High School event was extra special!!
Amanda Moll--she of the amazing Moll twins--soared over 14-9.50 for a new High School Record!!
It's also the Junior Class Record!
In their "battle" for dominance in the Twins PV War, Amanda's 14-9.50 combined with twin Hana Moll's previous 14-4 to get them to a total of 29-1.50!
The former Weeks twins total is 28-8.50!!
Lexi Jacobus went over 14-7.50, while twin Tori Hoggard cleared 14-1!
Those marks were and are all in-season OUTdoor marks!
However, Hana No Heighted at the Texas Relays!!
Taking 2nd was Molly Haywood, her 14-0 clearance making her 16th A-T HS, tied with a whopping 8 others!
But she also fills my Top 24 A-T Performers list with nothing but 14 footers!!
That's right--you need to clear 14-0 or higher to make the HS OUTdoor list now!!

Several other great marks dotted the opening of the OUTdoor season!
Fred Kerley won a Florida 100 in 9.99!
In a separate race, Matthew Boling timed 10.03!
Anderson Peters let his Javelin fly out 276-5, also in Florida!
In Texas, Alyssa Wilson's HT of 234-1 makes her 9th A-T Collegiate!!

Virgilius Alekna's son--Mykolas--is following his father's path to greatness in the Discus Throw, his 218-10 in California giving him the Frosh Class Record, and making him 5th A-T Collegiate!!

I'll close with some fast HS middle distance marks from Azuza, California!!
The Newbury Park boys were busy, as Colin Sahlman's 1:48.84 edged brother Aaron (sic!) Sahlman, who ran 1:48.91 over 800 meters!
The other brother combo from Newbury Park saw Leo Young beat brother Lex Young over the mile distance, 4:00.77 to 4:04.68!
For Leo, it makes him 16th A-T HS!!

Finally, we get a fantastic race in a Girl's One Mile race, also in Azuza!
Dalia Frias, a previously unknown to me entity, ran 4:35.06, making her 2nd A-T HS behind only Katelyn Tuohy's HSR of 4:33.87!!
It's also the Senior Class Record!
But watch out, Dalia, for not far behind her came Freshman Sadie Englehardt!
Her amazing 4:36.63 breaks her own Frosh Class Record!
And it makes her 4th A-T HS!!

See you soon, my dear readers, with a lot more from this bursting OUTdoor season!!

ROISIN WILLIS--While Natalie Cook won my AOY, Willis's 2:00.06 was amazing, in that she WON the race against older Women!!
HM's go to Gorriaran's 2:00.58, Shea's 15:49.67, Jackson's 7.18, Amanda Moll's 14-9, Cook's 9:44.44, her Flower Mound team's 19:37.78, Pioneer's 8:51.93 and 11:32.60, and Whittaker's 2:39.41

World Personality of the Year--MEN
MONDO DUPLANTIS--For his amazing endurance in all his tries at 6.19, and his entertaining and outgoing nature, as well as his ongoing love affair with his fans!!
World Personality of the Year--WOMEN
I wanted to give this one to Mahuchukh, but while she deserved all the attention and love she received, I felt YULIMAR ROJAS's flair and colorful ways (her hair being just one!) gives her this award!
But a STRONG HM to the Ukranian!
US Personality of the Year--MEN
RYAN CROUSER for his humble acceptance of his loss at World's and for his HUGE command of his territory wherever he goes!!
US Personality of the Year--WOMEN
ABBY STEINER--While her personality was friendly and smiley and all of that, I gave her this award for the commanding nature of her talent at work!  She gave no quarter!!
Collegiate Personality of the Year--MEN
JARED NUGUSE--The nature of distance races (except at advertised time trials) is to win, whatever time it takes!  Jared ignored that and brought Collegiate distance running back to where it should be!
Collegiate Personality of the Year--WOMEN
ABBY STEINER ("the operator said it was 3 o'clock for over an hour, and I hung up!" Bob Dylan)
Self-explanatory!!
HS Personality of the Year--MEN
NEWBURY PARK--This team (and giving full credit to their coach!) made distance relays interesting again!!
HS Personality of the Year--WOMEN
Oh boy! This one is hard to explain, but let's just say there are DOUBLE double winners here!!
For ROISIN WILLIS might not have done so well without having friend and rival SOPHIA GORRIARAN to push her all season!!
That said, neither could either of the Moll twins have risen as high as they did without their twin sibling's love and support, so make AMANDA MOLL and HANA MOLL co-winners of this award!!

2022 INdoor World Championships

Taking place in Belgrade, Serbia, in a year when there will be an OUTdoor version of the WC's, a number of top athletes elected to bypass these WC's in favor of the OUTdoor!
You know what?
It's THEIR loss!!
In fact, I'll go one step further--NO OUTdoor WC if you ignore the INdoor WC!!
I'm fed up with top athletes NOT competing at major meets, from the Olympics to the WC's to their Nationals!!
No excuses (except for doctor verified injury or illness)!!

That said, this edition of the World's was absolutely FILLED with incredible performances!
Few missed the no-shows!!

Grant Holloway tied his WR in the 60H--in his semi!!
His 7.29 was also a Meet Record, and broke his own Age 24 Record!
His heat was 7.40, while he won Gold with 7.39!

Mondo Duplantis performed like--Mondo Duplantis!!
He AGAIN broke his own World Record with a PV of 20-4, or 6.20!
Here's the litany of Records he gets--WR, Sweden National Record, Meet Record, and Age 22 Record---all breaking his own!!
Thiago Braz got Brazil's NR with his 19-6.25 in 2nd!
He is 17th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Chris Nilson was a good 3rd, reaching 19-4.25--almost a full foot behind Mondo!!

The other World Record went to Yulimar Rojas, who destroyed the WR and MR, and broke her own Venezuela National Record and Age 26 Record!!
Her 51-7.75 was more than a full meter ahead of Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk's 48-4.50!!
Kim Williams took Bronze with her 47-11.75!
Back in 7th came Keturah Orji, who jumped 47-3.75!

The Men's 400--like several other events--had depth!
It took 45.00 for Jereem Richards to race 2 laps, getting the MR and Trinidad's NR in the process!
He ranks 12th A-T World!
Trevor Bassitt surprised in 2nd, finishing in 45.05!
He's 13th A-T US, tied with 1 other, and 18th A-T World, tied with 3 others!!
Carl Bengstrom's 45.33 in 3rd nabbed him the NR of Sweden!
And Ben Vechel's 45.67 is the new NR of Denmark!!

Out in 8th lane, Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji shocked a stud field of sprinters in the 60, winning in 6.96, and making it look easy--after the fact!
For the rest of the field, many replays didn't alter the outcome!
She'd been having a great season, but so had others!
She's ranked 4th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
She broke her own NR, and gets the Age 29 Record!!
Mikiah Brisco also got in under the 7.00 barrier, her 6.99 making her 3rd A-T US, and 11th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
She'd run 7.03's in both her heat and semi!!

Marybeth Sant-Price sprinted 7.04 tying her PR in 3rd!
Long time season leader Ewe Swoboda ended 4th, also timed in 7.04!
AND--the same 7.04 was given to 5th placer Shericka Jackson!!
Oh yeah--can't forget ANOTHER 7.04 for 6th placer Brianna Williams!!
And she gets the Age 19 Record!!

Damian Warner broke his own National Record of Canada by winning the Heptathlon with 6489 points!!
He also gets the Age 32 Record, and is ranked 2nd A-T World!!
Simon Ehammer's 6363 in 2nd ranks him 14th A-T World!!
He broke his own NR of Switzerland!
Ash Maloney scored 6344 points in 3rd, getting Australia's National Record!
He's ranked 18th A-T World!
In 6th was American Steve Bastien, whose 6074 makes him 23rd A-T US!

The Women's Pentathlon was pretty competitive also, but Noor Vidts still seemed the dominant force here!
She scored 4929 points to win it, making her 6th A-T World!
She gets Belgium's National Record, and the Age 25 Record!
Adrianna Sulek's 4851 took Silver, and gave her the NR of Poland!
She's ranked 14th A-T World!
Kendell Williams's 4680 just edged the fast-rising Brit Holly Mills, who scored 4673 points!

Besides great marks, this meet also had some upsets, those ranging from mild to not so much!!
While given the most air-time in pre-race trash talk and post-race analysis, it didn't seem so shocking that Lamont Jacobs beat Christian Coleman!!
It was tight, as both men were timed in 6.41!
After a semi in 6.45, Jacobs showed the world he's not a one & done player!
He now ranks 4th A-T World, breaking his own National Record of Italy!
Coleman's 6.41 was great, but let's not forget he's the WR holder, and was recently returned from a drug ban!!
Marvin Bracy was 3rd, his 6.44 making him 6th A-T US, and 9th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Bracy's heat was in 6.46!

Another upset came in the Men's 1500, when Samuel Tefera--who was the WR holder before Jacob Ingebrigtsen broke it!--upset the latter when Inge couldn't respond to Tefera's final move!
Tefera ran a Meet Record time of 3:32.77, while the youngster finished in 3:33.02!
(And so good to see a distance race with some speed AND great competition!!)
Abel Kipsang's 3:33.36 in 3rd makes him 16th A-T World!
Taddese Lemi (sp??) timed 3:33.59 in 4th, making him 17th A-T World!

Then we have the whopper of shocks, with all due respect to the winning Darlan Romani!!
Yes, Romani is great!
But then we have Ryan Crouser, who is as dominating a figure in T&F as ever was, or is!!
Considered unbeatable as Mondo, the WR holder wasn't supposed to lose!
But he did, not being able to heave the Big One when needed, as he'd done so many times in recent years!
Romani was definitely no slouch, as his 73-11 breaks his own National Record of Brazil, is the Meet Record, and gets him the Age 30 Record!
He's ranked 4th A-T World!

Crouser's 73-7.50 wasn't bad--if his name wasn't Ryan Crouser!
He gets the Age 29 Record!
Tom Walsh's 73-2.50 tied his own NR of New Zealand!
In 4th came Filip Mihaljevic's 71-7.50!
Fifth went to the 71-2.50 by Josh Awotunde!
In 6th was Italy's Zane Weir, whose 71-1.25 got him his National Record!

Despite the heat times being about 3 seconds slower than the final, the heats were where the list changes came in the Women's 4 X 400 Relay!
The final went to Jamaica's 3:28.40, with the Netherlands following in 3:28.57, then by Poland's 3:28.59, and finally the USA in 4th, time of 3:28.63!
(The United States didn't have their strongest team--See my opening paragraph!!)
The heats were slower, but Belgium's 3:30.58 makes them 17th A-T Nation!
Ireland's 3:30.97 makes them 18th A-T Nation!
And the 3:31.45 by Canada makes them 19th A-T Nation!!
Slovenia gets the caboose position on my list--their 3:37.08 making them 24th A-T Nation!!

The Women's Shot Put had a ding-dong finish!!
In a really bad pun-ishing way!!
LOL
For it was Auriol Dongmo (Sic!) who pulled off a last throw upset, winning with 67-0.50!
Just before Dongmo's 6th round came Chase Ealey's 6th round!
Her massive PR to 66-3.75 made her--seemingly--the upset winner over the steady Dongmo!
But then came Dongmo's response, and it was game over!
Dongmo misses the World list by just 5 and three-fourths inches!!
She does break her own National Record of Portugal!
Ealey's mark ties the American Record!
Jessica Schulder was 3rd with 63-11, while Fanny Roos's 63-0.75 was 4th, with 5th going to the 62-10 by Maggie Ewen!

Another much-hyped showdown came in the Women's 400!
It was Shaunae Miller-Uibo vs Femke Bol, with Bol having been much more active this season than SMU!
But her 50.57 wasn't enough to hold off Miller-Uibo's 50.31!
She gets the Age 27 Record!
Stephanie McPherson played the veteran's role quite well, her 50.79 in 3rd giving her the Age 33 Record, as well as the National Record of Jamaica!

A couple got the victory they were expected to get!
Ajee Wilson took the 800 in 1:59.09!
And Gudef Tsegay took the 1500 in a Meet Record 3:57.19--another fast distance race!

Cyrena Samba-Mayela won the 60H in 7.78, unexpected by yours truly!
It's the NR of France, and ranks her 18th A-T World, tied with 3 others!
Devynne Charleton ran 7.81 in 2nd, breaking her own NR of the Bahamas!

Sandi Morris cleared a winning height of 15-9 in the PV!
Marks of 15-7 went to Katie Nageotte in 2nd, and Tina Sutej in 3rd!

The Men's LJ went to Milt Tentoglou's 28-0.75!
This breaks his own National Record of Greece, and ranks him 6th A-T World!
Thomas Montler jumped 27-6 for Sweden's NR!
He ranks 21st A-T World, tied with 1 other!

Sang Woo took the HJ with 7-8!
He's becoming a really popular, and entertaining, fellow!!
Hamish Kerr was runner-up with his 7-7 New Zealand National Record!
Thiago Moura also jumped 7-7 in 3rd, getting him Brazil's NR!

Lazaro Martinez beat PPPP (aka Pablo Pichardo) in the TJ, 57-10.50 to 57-3.50!
For the winner, he now ranks 15th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
For Pichardo, he gets Portugal's National Record!

Other events--
Lemlem Hailu held off the fast-closing Elle Purrier St Pierre over 3000 meters, 8:41.82 to 8:42.04!
Belgium's 3:06.52 beat the 3:06.82 by Spain in the Men's 4 X 400 Relay!
In the heats, Ireland's 3:06.83 makes them 24th A-T Nation!!
Selemon Barega jogged his 3000 in 7:41.38 for the W!
Another strategic race went to the 1:46.20 by Mariano Garcia in the 800!

You want to cry--tears of joy??
For different reasons?
Try the following closing stories!

Home nation woman Ivana Vuleta (formerly Spanovic) came through with a Long Jump measuring 23-2 to easily beat the 22-5.75 by Ese Brume!
This got the Serb the Age 31 Record, proving yet again that experience--and a cheering home crowd--are two tickets to Gold worth having!

Then you had the shadow of a horrible war that followed Yaroslava Mahuchukh on her long drive from war-torn Ukraine to Belgrade!
Yes, she drove, as air travel was impossible for her!
In the dark of night!
She'd seen all the horrors of this horrible and tragic war, but she had a destiny to fulfill, and a message of hope to send to her suffering neighbors!
It took stamina, inner strength, a focused mind, and a totally supportive crowd, but Machuhukh pulled it off, her face stoic, her eyes on the verge of falling tears!
It was so heartwarming to see her raise her nation's flag at the end, and take a well-deserved lap of victory, every eye and everyone's heart following her!

She cleared 6-7.50.
That was enough to beat the 6-6.75 by Eleanor Patterson, whose mark breaks her own National Record of Australia!
Nadezhda Dubovitskaya was 3rd with the NR of Kazakhstan--6-6!

Yes, several stayed away, but not Yaroslava Mahuchukh--who had every reason to!

See you soon!

High Schoolers Rip It Up

As promised in my previous post, I have a HUGE mark to reveal to you!
It is, of course, the World Record by MONDO!!
Yet another in a long line, Mondo Duplantis broke his own WR, National Record of Sweden, and Age 22 Record when he cleared the bar set at 20-3.75!
Fans--and Mondo himself--had been counting the hours before he'd top 6.19!!
He has done it!!

Some other good marks before I get around to my title subject---
Ivana Vuleta LJ'ed 22-7!
Nick Ponzio got the National Record of Italy with his SP of 70-10.75!
That meet was INdoors--but in an OUTdoor meet in Portugal, Ponzio lost to Zane Weir, 72-1.75 to Ponzio's 71-7.50!!
Also in Portugal, Auriol Dongmo hit 64-6.75!
In New Zealand, Olivia McTaggart PV'ed 15-3!

Joshua Cheptegei won a 10K Road race in 26:49!
Ruth Chepngetich won the Nagoya Marathon in 2:17:18!
Lonah Salpeter's 2:18:45 took second!!

All well and good, but what are we really here for?
HIGH SCHOOL, that's what!
And what a tour de force the THREE so called "championship" meets were!
Hint: This blog still recognizes the New Balance INdoor Nationals as THE INdoor HS Championship meet!
Anything else is just imitation and fantasy dreams!
YET, those other 2 meets did produce some good marks!
This post will mingle the 3 in a startling record-breaking stew!
Enjoy!

The Armory (NBIN) saw Newbury Park (CA) utterly DESTROY the HSR for the 4 X Mile Relay!
Their 16:29.31 averaged 4:07.23 per mile--but the really scary thing is--they can run much faster!!
The old mark was beaten by about 32 seconds!!
It was also a Meet Record!
Colin Sahlman anchored in 4:03.74 (for a full Mile!).

The Men's NB Mile was won by Gary Martin, time of 4:02.34!
It's the NB Meet Record, and ranks 10th A-T HS!
His 3:46.23 at 1500 is also the MR, and ranks 7th A-T HS!
Zane Begin's 4:02.64 was 2nd, and ranks him 11th A-T HS!
His 1500 of 3:46.37 ranks 8th A-T HS!
James Donahue and Gavin Sherry followed in 4:02.66 and 4:02.69, respectively!
They rank 12th and 13th A-T HS!!
Their 1500 times of 3:46.60 and 3:46.74 rank 11th and 12th A-T HS!!
The deep finish continued with Marco Langan's 4:04.60!
He ranks 16th A-T HS!
CJ Singleton ran 4:04.89 to rank 17th A-T HS!
But Singleton was ahead at 1500, his 3:47.97 ranking him 13th A-T HS!
Langan's 1500 was 3:48.67, and ranks him 15th A-T HS!
Connor Burro's Mile time was 4:04.91, ranking him 18th A-T HS, while his 3:48.15 at 1500 ranks him 14th A-T HS!!
Whew!!

The Women's NB Mile was just as productive!
Juliet Whittaker won in 4:37.23, while passing 1500 in 4:18.31!
Both times rate her 4th A-T HS!
In 2nd was the amazing Frosh, Sadie Englehardt!
Her time of 4:37.40 smashed the old Frosh Class Record by 2.6 seconds!
That record was held by the then Mary Decker, later Slaney!
Her 4:40.1 dated from 1973, 49 years ago!!
It ranks her 5th A-T HS, while her 4:18.97 at 1500 ranks her 6th A-T HS!
Riley Stewart took 3rd in 4:40.93, ranking her 16th A-T HS!
Her 1500 of 4:22.58 rates her 14th A-T HS!
Ellie Shea has a better time, but her Mile & 1500 times were 4:41.00 and 4:22.92.
In 5th came Mia Cochran's 4:42.49!
It ranks her 16th A-T HS!
Karrie Baloga's 4:24.46 at the 1500 point ranks her 22nd A-T HS!
Her Mile time doesn't make my list!!

The Women's 4 X Mile Relay went through a double dip into the Record Book!
At the Ocean Breeze meet (Nike), Saratoga Springs broke the HSR with their 19:49.10!
Great time, right?
Well, the very next day at the Armory, Flower Mound (TX) cut another 11-plus seconds off the HSR, their 19:37.78 also being a Meet Record!
Natalie Cook anchored their team with a full Mile of 4:43.72!
Cuthbertson of North Carolina ran a solid 20:01.48, but ended about 24 seconds behind!!

That anchor by Cook wasn't her only time of the meet!
She began with an astounding Two Mile of 9:44.44!
Only Mary Cain's 9:38.68 HSR is faster INdoors!
Cook gets the NBIN Meet Record, the Senior Class Record, and ranks, as noted, 2nd A-T HS!
Her time at 3000--9:08.22--rates her 4th A-T HS!
She wasn't that far ahead of phenom Ellie Shea!
Shea's 9:52.35 is the Soph Class Record, and rates her 6th A-T HS!
She passed 3000 in 9:13.31!
Angelina Perez was 3rd in 9:56.96!
That ranks her 10th A-T HS, while her 3000 time of 9:15.25 also rates her 10th A-T HS!!

Shea blasted 25 laps of the Armory track in 15:49.47, 2nd only behind Katelyn Tuohy's HSR!!
Far back in 2nd, Jenna Mulhern ran 16:31.29, which ranks 14th A-T HS!
Mulhern (and Angelina Perez) also ran the Two Mile at the Ocean Breeze meet!
Mulhern won in 10:03.86, ranking her 16th A-T HS!
Perez's time in 2nd was 10:07.43!

Pioneer of Michigan won the 4 X 800 Relay in the HSR time of 8:51.93!
They also nabbed the NB Meet Record!
Union Catholic (NJ) was 2nd in 8:53.69!
The NB DMR was won by Pioneer also, their 11:32.68 getting them the High School Record and the NBIN Meet Record!
The Men's DMR went to Ridge of New Jersey in the HSR time of 9:53.40!!
Union Catholic was 2nd in a very good 9:55.12!

Pardon my emphasis on the distances, but they were quite good, collectively and individually!!
( I will get to the other events soon!!)
The Men's Two Mile at the Armory was won by Gavin Sherry's 8:48.59!
This ranks him 11th A-T HS!
He passed 3000 meters in 8:15.93!
Brother Callum Sherry took 2nd in 8:50.60!
This ranks him 18th A-T HS!
He passed 3000 in 8:18.38!
James Donahue's 8:17.61 was ahead of Callum at 3K, but he finished behind him in 8:51.87.
That ranks him 21st A-T HS!
Aiden Puffer was 4th in 8:52.33!

In the Men's 5000, there was no real standout time, but a trio made my HS list!
Ethan Coleman won it in 14:31.03, ranking him 8th A-T HS!
Second was Zack Munson's 14:35.39, which rates him 9th A-T HS!
First name is missing, but a Mr Burgess was 3rd in 14:41.49, ranking him 19th A-T HS!
Krishna Therunavukharasu (Wow!) was 4th, his 14:42.83 ranking him 23rd A-T HS!!
And Zariel Macchia ran the Two Mile at the Ocean Breeze in 10:17.09!
Not bad?
Quite good, actually, as it nabs her the Frosh Class Record!!

Let's group the other events!
Track
In the Ocean Breeze, Mia Brahe-Pederson won the 200 in 23.44, making her 10th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Autumn Wilson took 2nd in 23.53, ranking her 18th A-T HS!
Zaya Akins won the Nike 400 in 53.26, ranking her 16th A-T HS!
Ramiah Elliott took the NB 200 in 23.34, ranking her 8th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Shawnti Jackson's 23.50 was 2nd!
Avery Lewis took the 60 in 7.27!

Zyaire Nuriddan sprinted the Adidas 400 in 46.04!
This makes him 3rd A-T HS!
Judson Lincoln took 2nd in 46.56, making him 8th A-T HS!
The Mile Walks were pretty good!
Madison Morgan double dipped at the two NYC sites!
She won at Ocean Breeze in 7:34.20, then improved to 7:23.77 at the NB meet!
Clayton Stoll took the Men's race at Ocean Breeze in 7:14.47!
But Ryan Allen was faster at the Armory, time of 7:12.00!

Hunter Jones took the Nike 5000 in 14:20.71!
This rates him 4th A-T HS!
Jordan Anthony took the O.B. 200 in 20.64, which ranks him 3rd A-T HS!
Will Sumner's 46.63 over 400 meters makes him 10th A-T HS!
Nick Plant ranks 17th A-T HS off his 800 in 1:50.70!

Justin Braun took two events!
He won the 60 in 6.65!
And won the 400 in 46.21!
It's the NBIN Meet record, and ranks him 4th A-T HS!
William Jones's 46.76 was 2nd, and ranks him 11th A-T HS!
Also getting an NB Meet Record was Cade Flatt, his 1:48.86 ranking him 3rd A-T HS!
Colin Sahlman timed 1:50.90 in 2nd, making him 20th A-T HS!
Shamali Whittle's 21.08 took the 200, making him 17th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
And Andre Korbmacher won the 60H in 7.70, making him 19th A-T HS!

Field
Running events are featured at the NBIN!
But there were a few solid field event marks among the 3 venues!
Veronica Vacca (a nice alliteration there!) took the Ocean Breeze Pole Vault with a clearance of 13-6.50!
Not bad--especially since it's the Frosh Class Record!!
Menzi Stiff took the SP with her 52-8.75!
This makes her 9th A-T HS!
Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan was another who doubled!
His WT of 81-11.50 took the NB meet!
But he let his WT fly 85-0.50 at the Nike meet!
Michael Pinckney was a top tier 2nd with 81-6.75!
This makes him 12th A-T HS!

Greg Foster took the LJ at Nike with 25-4.50, making him 14th A-T HS!
Madison McConico TJ'ed 43-6.50 at the Adidas meet, making her 5th A-T HS!!

Jada Foreman had a TJ of 41-11.50, making her 24th A-T HS!
Trinity Franklin threw the SP 50-4!
Last but not least, the Pentathlon victor was Bryanna Craig, who scored 3780 points!
This makes her 6th A-T HS!

And that, dear readers, is a wrap!!!
See you soon with my coverage of the World INdoor Championships!!

2022 NCAA INdoor Championships

Welcome to my blog's report on the 2022 NCAA INdoor Championships!
This is a combined Men's and Women's post!
Two Collegiate Records were broken, while another was tied!
Many Class Records went down, and there were tons of marks making my Collegiate lists, as well as many improving on marks already listed!

Julien Alfred--a relative newcomer--ran a Collegiate Record 7.04 in her 60 HEAT!!
It's also the Meet Record, the Junior Class Record, as well as the National Record of Saint Lucia!
Also in heats, Jadyn Mays timed 7.09!
It's the Frosh Class Record, and makes her 18th A-T Collegiate, tied with 4 others!
Better known as a hurdler, Grace Stark's 7.10 makes her 23rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!
The final went to Melissa Jefferson's 7.09!
It's the Soph Class Record, and makes her 18th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!
Abby Steiner ran 7.10 for 2nd, making her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Alfred ran just 7.15, ending 5th!!

Jasmine Moore doubled, Triple Jumping a Collegiate Record 47-9.75!
She also gets the Meet Record and the Soph Class Record!
It makes her 3rd A-T US!
Natricia Hooper's 45-10.75 took 2nd, while Charisma Taylor took 3rd with 45-9.75!
This makes Taylor 17th A-T Collegiate!
Moore and Monae Nichols both LJ'ed 21-6.75, with Jasmine getting the win!

Grace Stark tied the Collegiate Record with her 60H of 7.78!
She gets the Meet Record also!
She's 6th A-T US, and 18th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
She'd run 7.83 in her heat!
Alia Armstrong ran her heat in 7.86, but was DQ'ed in the final!

Shey Taiwo came within a quarter inch of the Collegiate Record with her WT measuring 83-10!!
It's 2nd A-T Collegiate, and 3rd A-T on both the US and World lists!!
And it breaks her own Age 22 Record!!
Jasmine Mitchell finished exactly 2 feet behind her, but her 81-10 ranks her 3rd A-T Collegiate, and 5th A-T on both the US and World lists!!
Camryn Rogers got the NR of Canada with her 78-11.25!
She is 10th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other.
And she ranks 18th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Rachel Tanczos reached 75-8 in 4th!

Trey Cunningham sprinted 7.38 over the 60H, getting the Senior Class Record!
This ranks him 2nd A-T Collegiate, 7th A-T US, tied with 2 others, and 10th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
Abby Steiner couldn't quite match her CR run at the SEC's, but her 200 of 22.16 was more than enough to put down the 22.50 by Favour Ofili!
Anania Battle's 22.63 took the 3rd podium spot!

In the Men's 60 heats, Favour Ashe ran 6.51!
This made him 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!
But the final was taken by Davonte Burnett's 6.50!
This made him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
Rikkoi (sp??) Brathwaite ran 6.52 for 2nd, making him 19th A-T Collegiate, tied with 8 others!!

Both DMR's had depth and speed!
Texas took the Men's race with 9:25.20!
Notre Dame was 2nd in 9:25.77, making them 9th A-T School!
(And they didn't need their 352 yard OT to do that!!)
Wisconsin finished just one tick of the watch behind ND, their 9:25.78 making them 10th A-T School!
Princeton ended 4th in 9:26.01, making them 12th A-T School!!

Arkansas won the Women's race in a quick 10:51.37, making them 3rd A-T School!
Stanford's 10:53.37 was 2nd, with 3rd going to Oregon's 10:55.52!
The Ducks Corvallis neighbors--Oregon State--ran 10:58.76 in 4th, making them 19th A-T School!

The Men's 5000 was won by Abdi Nur, his 13:19.01 ranking him 8th A-T Collegiate!
Ky Robinson surprised a bit in 2nd, his 13:20.17 grabbing the Frosh Class Record!
He's now 12th A-T Collegiate!
Nico Young's 13:21.23 gave him 3rd!
He ranks 14th A-T Collegiate, and 23rd A-T US!
Adriaan Wildschutt had the same time as Young, but he was given 4th!
Cole Sprout was 5th in 13:25.67, making him 22nd A-T Collegiate!

Randolph Ross sprinted 2 laps in 44.62, getting him the Junior Class Record!
He ranks 3rd A-T on all the lists--Collegiate, US, and the World!!
Talitha Diggs ran her 2 lapper in 50.98, making her 18th A-T Collegiate, and 19th A-T US!

Rachel Baxter's PV of 15-1.75 topped the Women's event!
She's ranked 5th A-T Collegiate, and 16th A-T US!
Sydney Horn's 14-7.50 in 2nd ranks her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Sondre Guttormsen's 18-10.25 won the Men's PV!

Jorinde Van Klinken won the Women's SP with 62-7.25, making her 6th A-T Collegiate!
Turner Washington's SP of 71-0.50 turned back (Sic!) Tripp Piperi's 70-9.75!!
And Vernon Turner (Sic again!!) won the HJ with 7-7.25!
Corvell Todd's 7-6 was 2nd!
Lamara Distin HJ'ed 6-3.50 nabbed the Women's HJ, followed by the 6-2.25 by Tyra Gittens!

Katelyn Tuohy was catching Courtney Wayment in the 5000, but fell short, Wayment winning in 15:30.17!
Tuohy's 15:30.63 took 2nd over the 15:31.06 by Mercy Chelangat!
Lindsey Butler's 2:01.37 won the 800!
In 2nd came Claire Seymour's 2:01.96, which ranks her 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Tuohy also took 2nd in the 3000, her 8:59.20 falling short of Taylor Roe's 8:58.95!
The 4 X 400 Relays were okay!
Texas's 3:04.55 won for the Men, making them 17th A-T School!
The Women's race went to the 3:27.23 by Arkansas!
Texas was 2nd in 3:28.60!
Kentucky's 3:28.77 was 3rd!

Finally, both Multi's were high quality!
Anna Hall scored 4586 points to win by over 200 points over Duke's Erin Marsh!
Marsh's 4383 ranks her 23rd A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!!
Lexie Keller's 4321 took the Bronze!

Ayden Owens's 6211 just beat the 6200 of Kyle Garland!
In 3rd came Leo Neugebauer's 6148!
This makes him 13th A-T Collegiate!
Andrea Iosivas scored 6069 points in 4th, making him 19th A-T Collegiate!!

Next post covers all 3 of the HS "Championships", with the New Balance INdoor Nationals being far superior to the Nike and Adidas meets!!

And I'll have a HUGE mark to report outside the HS sector!
See you soon!

The TEN Rates an ELEVEN!

 Such a tease!
But before we get to The TEN--and the astounding times run there--let's cruise the various venues and see what else was going on!

Like maybe Josh Kerr blasting a Mile in 3:48.87 in Boston!!
His time returned British Miling to the heady days of Steve Cram, Steve Ovett, and Sebastian Coe!
Not only a GB INdoor Record, but the Age 24 Record as well!
He ranks 3rd A-T World!
Enroute, his 1500 time of 3:32.86 also is a British NR, and rates him 8th A-T World!!

Cameron Preceviat took 2nd in a far back 3:52.54!
Another 2 seconds back came Jack Yearian's 3:54.54!
This ranks him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
His 1500 time of 3:38.56 ranks him 10th A-T Collegiate!
In 4th was Reed Brown's 3:54.77!
He is 13th A-T Collegiate!
His enroute time was 3:38.68, ranking him also 13th A-T Collegiate!!

Both Netherlands 400 National Records went down!
Femke Bol's 50.30 ranks her 11th A-T World!
The Men's NR goes to the 45.48 by Liemarvin Bonevacia!

The 800 NR of Belgium goes to Elliott Creston's 1:46.11.
The Pentathlon went to Sveva Gerivian (sp??), who got 4451 points!
It's the National Record of Italy!
The Men's 5000 was won by Aaron Bienenfeld, time of 13:21.99!
This rates him 12th A-T Collegiate!
Second went to Ehab El-Sandeli's 13:25.01, which ranks him 18th A-T Collegiate!

Allie Buchalski won the 3000 in 8:58.35!
But in 2nd was HS'er Ellie Shea, her 9:08.54 ranking her 5th A-T HS!
Menno Vloon PV'ed 19-4.75!

Auriol Dongmo threw the SP 65-3.50, nabbing Portugal's National Record!
Spain's NR in the Pentathlon goes to Maria Vicente's 4582!!
And Mujinga Kambundji sprinted a 60 in 7.05!

Madrid gave us some quality marks!
Yulimar Rojas TJ'ed 50-6.75 for the Age 26 Record!
Gudef Tsegay ran another speedy 1500, time of 3:57.38!
Konrad Bukowiecki's 71-10.75 was enough to beat the 71-7.50 by Filip Mihaljevic in the SP!
Elliott Giles's 1:45.43 took the 800!
In the 3000, Selemon Barega's 7:34.03 just beat the 7:34.09 of Lemecha Girma!

OUTdoors, we have a few Road race results to report!
The Tokyo Marathon was a brilliant display of longevity in the event, and sheer dominance!!
Eliud Kipchoge won again!
While his 2:02:40 is almost average for The Master, it was more than enough to beat the 2:03:13 by Amos Kipruto!
Kipruto now ranks 11th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
Tamirat Tola took 3rd in 2:04:14!
Kengo Suzuku was 4th in a distant 2:05:28!

The Women's race went to WR holder Brigid Kosgei!
Her 2:16:02 gave her the Age 28 Record!
Asheta Bekele took 2nd in 2:17:58!
It gives her the Age 33 Record, and ranks her 11th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Goytatom Gebresellassie was 3rd in 2:18:18, good for the best 3rd Place mark!
It also ranks her 14th A-T World!
Angela Tanui's 2:18:42 was 5th!
Hiwot Gebrekidan's 2:19:10 ranks her 23rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Back in 8th came Sara Hall, who ran 2:22:56!

Yelenzerf Yehualaw took over the Road 10K World Record with her 29:14 in Spain!
Ronald Kwemoi took the Men's race in 27:16!

In Italy, a Half Marathon was won by Sabatini Kimaru in 58:02.
This rates him 6th A-T World!
Kenya's Irene Kimais won the Women's race in 66:03!
In 4th was Allie Kieffer's 69:17, which ranks her 13th A-T US!

The USATF 15K saw Emily Sisson put on a one-woman show!
Her 47:28 beat 2nd placer Emily Durgin's 49:17 by 1:49!!
And interestingly enough, 3rd went to another Emily--Ms Infeld's time being 49:46!
Being they're all Americans, I wonder if having a trio of Emily's on the podium will become a common occurrence!!
Sarah Pagano's 49:51 was 4th, while Nell Rojas was 5th in 49:58!

The Men's race went to Nicolas Montanez, a relatively new name on the Road racing circuit--at least to me!!
His time of 43:10 beat the 43:14's by Len Korir and Hillary Bor--Korir taking 2nd!
Galen Rupp ended 7th in 43:31.

In a 35K Walk, fast times came from Perseus Karlstrom and Alvaro Martin in 1st & 2nd, respectively!
Karlstrom walked 2:36:14, beating Martin's 2:36:54!
For the Women, Glenda Moreja (sp??) won in 2:48:33!

I was planning on waiting till the end of this post to cover The TEN, but I've been enough of a tease!

The TEN was held OUTdoors, but during the INdoor season!
Just prior to the Championship (NCAA, NBIN, WC) portion of the season!!
And what an amazing show they put on!
(The organizers, but mainly the athletes!!)

Grant Fisher had run some super times at various distances--in HS, at Stanford, and as a Professional!
But nothing surpassed his incredible run at The TEN!
His 26:33.84 broke Galen Rupp's American Record by close to 10 seconds!
And he negative split!!
His 5's were in 13:23 and 13:10!!
He ranks 7th A-T World!
For the first time in awhile, we have an American who can hold his own with the Africans!!

Canada's Mo Ahmed tied himself to Fisher for most of the race, but narrowly got beat at the end!
His time of 26:34.14 breaks his own National Record, and gets him the Age 31 Record!
He ranks 9th A-T World!
Australia's NR went to Jack Rayner's 27:15.35!
While Rayner didn't break Ron Clarke's NR directly, consider that it took almost 57 years for an Aussie to run 24 seconds faster than Clarke did in 1965!!
Sean McGorty's 27:18.15 was 4th, and makes him 10th A-T US!
In 8th was Conner Mantz, whose 27:25.23 rates him 18th A-T US!!

Elise Cranny JUST missed the American Record of Molly Huddle!!
Her 30:14.66 fell 1.29 seconds short!
The fault seemed to lay with the new "wavelights" used to "pace" runners!
For some reason, they were set at 3 seconds SLOWER than Huddle's time!
I'm not sure if Cranny was aware of this, as she stayed with the lights until less than a lap to go, when it was too late to make up the difference!!

YET....her time is 2nd A-T US, and misses the World list by only 0.90 seconds!!
Her splits were 15:04 and 15:10!
In 2nd--but far back--was Dominique Scott's 31:00.10, A PR for the South African!
For Americans, 5th and 6th produced good times!
Millie Paladino ran 31:19.92 in 2nd, making her 21st A-T US!
And in 6th, Sarah Lancaster's 31:21.75 makes her 23rd A-T US!!

This is already a long post, but I have more results, so let's move on!
Back to INdoors, and to France!
Chris Nilsen got the American Record with his clearance of 19-10.25!!
It's also the Age 24 Record, and ranks him 5th A-T World!
Breaking his own Philippines National Record, Ernest Obiene topped 19-4.75!
He ranks 24th A-T World, tied with 3 others!
In 3rd, with the same height, came Thiago Braz!

The Women's PV went to Tina Sutej's 15-9.
It breaks her own NR of Slovenia!
She ranks 17th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
In 2nd was Angelica Moser's 15-3.50!

Also in France, but in a different venue, Chris Nilsen got over 19-3.50!
Mujinga Kambundji sped her 60 in 7.06!
But in Poland, Ewe Swoboda just got in under 7.00 over 60 meters, her 6.99 following a heat of 7.09!
It breaks her own National Record of Poland, and ranks her 10th A-T World!!
Justyna Swiety-Ersetic ran the 400 in 51.04!
In the Pentathlon, Adrianna Sulek scored 4756 points, missing the World list by a mere 24 points!
Paulina Ligarska scored 4593 in 2nd!

I'll close with some HS marks, all of which made my HS lists!!
Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan let fly his WT 85-2.50!
This makes him 5th A-T HS!
Justin Braun's 60 in 6.62 also gets him 5th A-T HS, but it's tied with 2 others!
James Donahue's 4:02.25 Mile ranks him 9th A-T HS!
Marcus Reilly ran a Mile in 4:07.04, which nets him the 24th position on my HS list!
Oh, BTW, it's also the Soph Class Record!!

Finally, we have Kenna Stimmel topping 14-2 in the PV!
She ranks 9th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
She also becomes the 14th HS'er to clear 14-0 or higher INdoors!!

Next is the NCAA Championships!!
See you soon!

USATF & Collegiate Conferences

The new INdoor arena in Spokane WA was the site of the 2022 USATF Championships!
With the World Championships (INdoors AND OUTdoors) looming, decisions were made as to whether to compete in both, or aim for Eugene only, thus determining which Americans would show in Spokane!
This has always been a factor in who took on the US Champs--and who passed!
In my opinion, the INdoor USATF is just as important as the OUTdoor version, and should be shown as much respect!
That said, enough top tier athletes presented themselves to conclude this year's edition was a meet of some genuine quality and even a bit of depth!

That showed in both Pole Vaults!
Once again, Sandi Morris ruled the day for the Women, taking Gold with 15-9!
Katie Nageotte also showed her steadiness, taking 2nd with 15-7.
Bronze went to Bridget Williams (formerly Guy), she reaching 15-5!
Not often you see HS'ers in the USATF PV, but Amanda and Hana Moll aren't your typical HS'ers!
Amanda flew over 14-9, tying for 4th place, with Hana ending 7th with a 14-5.25 clearance!
The Men were led by Chris Nilsen's 19-4.75, his standard height of late!
KC Lightfoot also did good, his 19-2.75 taking 2nd!

The Throws were all top tier!
Ryan Crouser threw his 16 pounder 73-10.25 for a big win!
But Josh Awotunde's 71-4 in 2nd makes him 13th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Maggie Ewen exploded out to 64-11.25 to make her 4th A-T US!
This put Chase Ealey over 2 feet behind, but Ealey's 62-8 was still good!
In 3rd was Jessica Woodard's 61-4.25!
This makes her 19th A-T US!
Close was another Jessica--Ramsey--with 61-2.75!

The Ball and Chain crews let loose also--so to speak!
Janae Kassanavoid let her WT fly out 79-8!
This makes her 10th A-T US, and 11th A-T World!!
Erin Reese reached 77-10 in 2nd, while Lara Boman's 77-4.75 makes her 17th A-T US, and 23rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Alex Young let fly his B&C 81-6, sending him up to 7th A-T US, and 8th A-T World!!
Daniel Haugh's 81-4 made things exciting!
Rudy Winkler's 78-0 took the Bronze!

Mikiah Brisco's 7.07 just edged Marybeth Sant-Price's 7.08 in the 60!
Kayla White's 7.10 in 3rd made her 22nd A-T US, tied with 4 others!
Christian Coleman sped 6.45 in his 60 to beat Marvin Bracy's 6.48 in a race TV decided to feature!

After a 7.43 in his heat, Grant Holloway tied the Meet Record with his 60H final of 7.37!
Gabbi Cunningham took the Women's 60H with 7.82, making her 11th A-T US, tied with 2 others!
Both Multi's were solid and high scoring!
Chari Hawkins took the Pentathlon with 4492 points!
This makes her 15th A-T US!
And it beat the still young veteran Kendell Williams, who scored 4399 points!
But Garrett Scantling's Heptathlon total of 6382 points gave him the Meet Record!
It also makes him 3rd A-T US, and 9th A-T World!!

The distances were fairly mundane, especially if you're like me--more into fast times rather than strategic races determining the winners!
Cole Hocker doubled as expected, taking the 3000 in 7:47.50, and the 1500 in 3:39.09--the latter being a Meet Record, believe it or not!!
Bryce Hoppel ran a quick 1:45.30 to take the 4 lapper!
Ajee Wilson is as steady as she goes, running her heat and final of the 800 just one tick of the watch apart!!
Her times were 2:01.73, then 2:01.72!!
Like Hocker, Elle Purrier St Pierre also Double Dipped!
BUT...her quest met the proverbial wall when her sprint to the finish in a tactical 1500 was outdone by Josette Norris and Heather MacLean!!
Norris was right with her, but while both leaned at the line, it was MacLean that sprinted the hardest, JUST breaking the tape first!
Times were 4:06.09, 4:06.13, and PSP's 4:06.14!!
Slow as slugs, but exciting in replays!
In 5th place was Dani Jones's 4:08.14!
This made her 22nd A-T US!!

Then Purrier decided to go for "A" win, and got it!
She sprinted determinedly to cross the line in the 3000 with 8:41.53!

In other events--
Keturah Orji won the TJ with 46-10.25!
And Jarrion Lawson took the LJ with 26-10.50!

As has become the norm for some of the Collegiate Conferences--mainly the Big 10 and Big 12--they went to Oversize Track arenas, thus making EVERY race over 60 meters in length ineligible for Record and List purposes--including Meet Records, Class Records, and such!!
It pisses me off no end that the NCAA (and/or the Conference schedulers) would set up these important meets in venues where they KNOW that any and all marks run on the ovals would be null and void!!
It's unfair to the hundreds of athletes who run those events, and surprises me that THEY haven't demanded these meets be held on 200 meter tracks!!

Anyway, as per the norm, the ACC and SEC gave us most of the best marks, and many records!
Trey Cunningham won his 60H heat in a Meet Record 7.40 at the ACC!
His finals time was 7.42!
Daniel McArthur broke his own ACC Meet Record with his Shot Put of 70-7!
It makes him 16th A-T Collegiate!
Lindsey Butler was another to break her own ACC Meet Record, her 2:01.23 in the 800 making her 9th A-T Collegiate!
Dylan Jacobs won the 3000 in a MR 7:49.79!

Rachel Baxter continued her fine season with a PV win, clearing 15-1.50!
It's the ACC Meet Record!
And it makes her 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, and 16th A-T US, tied with 2 others!
Gabriela Leon topped 14-7.50 to take 2nd!
Not an MR, but Rebecca Mammel's WT of 75-8.75 was good enough to rank her 17th A-T Collegiate!

The last ACC Meet Record goes to the DMR squad from Virginia Tech in the Women's race!
Their time was 10:53.75!
Virginia was 2nd in 10:56.84, making them 13th A-T School!
North Carolina State's team ran 10:58.10, making them 15th A-T School!!

A few marks worthy of note came from other Conferences!
Even though I generally ignore marks made on OT's I must mention Anavia Battle's 200 time of 22.39 at the Big 10.
Thankfully, field events held in venues with OT's still count as legal!
Adelaide Aquilla's SP of 61-4.75 thus set the Big 10 Meet Record!
Olivia Lueking's Big 12 PV of 14-6 also set a Meet Record!
While the Pentathlon includes the 800, I count scores that come from OT venues!
So Kristine Blazevica's 4308 score is the Big 12 Meet Record!

Other Conference marks (other than ACC and SEC)--
At the American Conference, Rayniah Jones took the 60H in 7.90!
This ranks her 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Deemia (sp??) Miller's WT--also at the American Conference--of 79-0 makes her 14th A-T US, and 16th A-T World!
Tripp Piperi took the Big 12 SP with his 70-2.50!
Lucy Corbett HJ'ed 6-2.25 to win at Big Sky!
The Big South Women's PV went to Sydney Horn's 14-6!
And in the Heps Heptathlon (Sic!), Andrei Iosiva scored 6036 points, making him 22nd A-T Collegiate!

Then we come to the NC---oops!  I meant the SEC--Conference!
Yes, they DO kind of resemble each other in their quality and depth of marks!!

The Talk of the Season has been Abby Steiner, beginning with her initial race over 300 meters (See earlier post!).
The talk got a lot louder after she DESTROYED the Collegiate Record over 200 meters with her brilliant solo run of 22.09!!
It also got her the American Record, the Senior Class Record, and the Age 22 Record!!
It makes her 2nd on the A-T World list!!
In fact, she ran faster in her heat (22.44) than did Favour Ofili in the final!
Ofili's 2nd place time was 22.46!
This makes her 9th A-T Collegiate, and 19th A-T World!!

The Women's 4 X 400 Relay was rather fast!
As in Collegiate Record and SEC Meet Record fast!!
Those honors went to Arkansas's 3:24.09!!
They needed most of it to beat Texas A&M's 3:25.43!
This makes them 2nd A-T School!
Getting 3rd A-T School was Kentucky, with their time of 3:25.89!!

The Women's open 400 went to Alexis Holmes's 50.77!
This makes her 8th A-T Collegiate, and 11th A-T US!
In 2nd came Britton Wilson's 50.88!
It makes her 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, and 17th A-T US!!

Kyle Garland added 5 points to his Heptathlon PR, but it was enough for the win, and to give him the Meet Record!
It also makes him 5th A-T Collegiate, and 10th A-T US!

Alia Armstrong's 60 time of 7.11 makes her 10th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Lamara Distin grabbed a share of the Meet Record with her HJ of 6-3.25!
Rachel Glenn's 6-2 took 2nd!
Grace Stark won the 60H in 7.91, but it was enough to beat the 7.93 of Charisma Taylor!
(Guess Ms Taylor's "charisma" wasn't enough to tackle Stark!!)
LOL

Jasmine Moore handily doubled in the horizontal jumps!
Her TJ measured 46-3.50, but her LJ of 22-1.75 makes her 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Mississippi won the Women's DMR in 10:56.39, making them 12th A-T School!
Arkansas's 10:57.26 was 2nd.
Kentucky's 11:00.18 just missed making the Collegiate list!

Champion (Apt name!!) Allison got on 3 lists with his winning 400 time of 45.04@
He is 12th A-T Collegiate, 12th A-T US, and 16th A-T World!
The Meet Record in the 800 goes to Brandon Miller's 1:45.24!

Florida was right on their shoulder, ending 2nd in 3:02.61!!
Finally, Anna Hall upped her Pentathlon PR by 28 points!
Her 4618 points is an SEC Meet Record!
It makes her 4th A-T Collegiate, and 8th A-T US!

Next stop---the Big Three!
(NCAA, NBIN, WC)
One at a time!

Not forgetting The TEN!!
See you soon!

B'ham & Torun, Roads & HS

I live in Bellingham WA, and we abbreviate our town as B'ham!
But I'm speaking of that city in England where big-time T&F meets are held!

It's where Keely Hodgkinson set a National Record (Great Britain), an Age 19 Record, and a Meet Record by running the 800 in a great time of 1:57.20!!
Catriona Bisset got Australia's NR in 2nd with her 1:59.46!
Natoya Goule was 3rd in 1:59.85!

It's also where Mondo Duplantis got a MR with his PV of 19-10.25, which once again broke his own Age 22 Record!
Where Grant Holloway easily won the 60H in 7.41.
Other good marks from B'ham---
Collins Kipruto's 1:45.39 beat Elliot Giles's 1:45.42 over 4 laps!
Abel Kipsang's 3:34.57 defeated Adel Mechaal's 3:35.30 in the 1500.
Kipsang is now ranked 24th A-T World!
Elaine Thompson-Herah sped the 60 in 7.08!
And Stephanie McPherson PR'ed over 400 meters in 51.39!

Torun's top mark was probably Gudef Tsegay's 3:54.77 over 1500 meters!
It gives her the Age 25 Record!
Lemlem Hailu was a distant 2nd in 4:02.25!
Winnie Nanyando finished 6th, but her 4:03.54 beat her own National Record of Uganda!
And Sara Kuivista, in 7th, got Finland's NR with her 4:06.14!

Ewe Swoboda and Elaine Thompson-Herah had a tight 60 race--Swoboda winning 7.03 to 7.04!
A good Men's SP saw Filip Miheljevic winning with 71-8, Croatia's National Record!
It's also 17th A-T World!
Konrad Bukowiecki was right behind at 71-7.50!
In 3rd was Nick Ponzio's PR of 70-7.75!
Another best was had by Zane Weir, measuring 70-6.50!

The Men's 3000 went to Lemecha Girma's 7:31.09!
Selemon Barega was close in 7:31.39, with Jacob Krop finishing in 7:31.90!
Krop is now 17th A-T World!

Ending 5th was Elzin Bibic, his 7:39.96 getting him the National Record of Serbia!

Femke Bol's 50.64 easily won over the 51.15 by Natalie Kaczmarek!
Damian Czykier's 7.48 won the 60H, tying his own National Record of Poland!
Elliot Giles won the 800 in 1:45.42!
A solid Women's 800 saw Catriona Bisset winning in 2:00.16 over Halimah Nakaayi's 2:00.19, with the same time given to 3rd placer Tigist Girma!

I've railed against OT's since this blog began!
But here's some proof that you DON'T need an OT to run fast times!!
Notre Dame is often used by DMR teams to qualify for the NCAA Champs!
Lots of teams have gained Q's on their 352 yard track!
At the Wilson Invite, ND, Mississippi, Indiana, Princeton, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Texas all ran between 9:21.73 and 9:23.99--all excellent times--all NOT eligible for records or lists!!
Now let's see what Arkansas's 200 meter track gave us at a meet there!

Washington led the way with a brilliant 9:21.10!
This makes the Seattle team 3rd A-T School!
Alabama's 9:22.43 makes them 4th A-T School!
Oklahoma State's 9:22.70 makes them 5th A-T School!
Iowa State ran 9:24.07, making them 7th A-T School!
Arkansas followed in 9:24.56, making them 8th A-T School!
(I hope the schools from the ND race look at my list, and regret NOT seeing their team listed--at least not from the Wilson Invite race!!)

Zouhair Talbi (sp??) won the 3000 in 7:40.39!
Amon Kemboi took 2nd, his 7:42.29 making him 4th A-T Collegiate!
In 3rd came Wesley Kiptoo's 7:43.61, making him 9th A-T Collegiate!

Polina Knoroz cleared 15-9.25, making her 13th A-T World, tied with 3 others!
In 3rd came Tina Sutej's 15-7, making her 24th A-T World, tied with 5 others!
It also breaks her own National Record of Slovenia!
On the Men's side, Menna Vloon topped 19-3 to win!

A pair of Road races caught our attention!
The always speedy RAK Half Marathon had depth and fast times!
Jacob Kiplimo got to the line first with his 57:56!
Rodgers Kwemoi took 2nd in 58:30, making him 12th A-T World!
Kenneth Renju was close behind in 58:35!
This makes him 15th A-T World!
Seifa (sp??) Tura was next in 58:36, which made him 16th A-T World!
Andewerk Walelegn's 58:40 makes him 17th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
And Daniel Kibet ended 6th in 58:45!

Girmawit Gebrzihair took the RAK Women's race in 64:14, making her 4th A-T World!
She also gets the Age 20 Record!!
Age TWENTY, folks!!!!
She beat the veteran Helen Obiri, whose 64:22 makes her 5th A-T World, and adds the Age 32 Record to her list of honors!
Sheila Kiprotich was  3rd in 64:36.
That's the best 3rd Place mark!
It's also 7th A-T World!
Judith Jeptum's 65:28 makes her 24th A-T World!

The Seville Marathon in Spain had some quality marks!
Aman Abderahman (sp??) won the Men's race in 2:04:43.
He beat Ayad Lamdasson's 2:06:25 (in 6th place)!
The latter breaks his own National Record of Spain!
Maru Tafiri got Israel's NR with his 2:06:58 in 7th!

Alemu Megertu won the Women's race in 2:18:51.!
This makes her 20th A-T World!
Meseret Gola took 2nd in 2:20:50!
M Maayouf finished 8th, but her 2:24:09 got her the National Record of Morocco!

Some miscellaneous marks from around the world--
Darlan Romani broke his own NR of Brazil with his SP of 71-2.75!
In Germany, Malaika Mihambo got the World Leader in the LJ with her 22-10!
And here's one for us "oldies"--
AG Kruger--who "retired" awhile back!--got a WT mark of 70-3.75!
At age 43!!

I'll close with a slough of HS marks!!

Ellie Shea's enroute time in her 4:40.01 mile (See previous post!) was 4:21.42!
This gets her the Soph Class Record, and makes her 9th A-T HS!
Sadie Englehardt's enroute time was 4:25.44, making her 22nd A-T HS!

Jenna Mulhern ran 3000 meters in 9:20.43, making her 13th A-T HS!
Madison Whyte's 300 time of 37.73 makes her 10th A-T HS!
Jordan Anthony doubled his pleasure!
His 60 time of 6.65 makes him 16th A-T HS, tied with 5 others!
And his 200 time of 21.05 makes him 14th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!

Brandon Green Triple Jumped 51-6, making him 15th A-T HS!
Better known for her 800 skills, Roisin Willis ran a 400 in 53.87!!
Rheinhardt Harrison ran the mile in 4:03.15!
He beat Connor Burns's 4:04.91.
Burns is ranked 11th A-T HS!
Juliette Whittaker's 2:01.69 over 4 laps makes her 3rd A-T HS!

Whittaker also got the High School Record in the 1000, her 2:39.41 also giving her the Senior Class Record!
Kate Putnam ran 2:47.42 in 2nd, making her 16th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

Jaicionna Gero-Holt HJ'ed 5-10.75!
Impressed?
Well, you will be when you learn that's the new Frosh Class Record!!
Elise Cooper ran a 300 in 37.60!
This makes her 9th A-T HS!
The Moll Pole Vaulting twins are at it again!!
Amanda went over 14-9, tying the HSR by Chloe Cunliffe, a fellow Washingtonian!!
It's also the Junior Class Record!
Sister Hana was 2nd with 14-5.25.
Add the marks together, and you have a combined total of 29-2.25!!

There's more HS stuff, but we go OUTdoors for these--
Aaron Sahlman ran the mile in 4:05.01.
His brother Chris took a 3200 (Ugh!) in a fast 8:33.32!
Leo and Lex Young followed in 8:39.57 and 8:43.93, respectively!
Not bad for VERY early OUTdoors for the Newbury Park 4-some!

Finally, Sadie Englehardt ran a Mile in 4:38.24!
It's the Frosh Class Record for OUTdoors, and ranks 8th A-T HS!

Next post will have USATF results, and maybe more!
See you soon!

Lievin (on a jet plane) & Lilac & so much more

The title was supposed to be funny--that is, if "Lievin" is pronounced like "leaving"!!
Anyway, tons of stuff to report, so let's get to it!!

At a Clemson meet, Randolph Ross sped a 400 in 44.83, goof for 6th A-T US, and 7th A-T World!
Abby Steiner's 22.37 is a Collegiate Record, and makes her 2nd A-T US, and 5th A-T World!
(My notes say this was an American Record, but might have been a mistake, so for now, I'll just note the time!)
Speaking of Steiner, her Kentucky 4 X 400 squad ran 3:27.27, making them 4th A-T School!
Texas was 2nd in 3:28.05, with South Carolina taking 3rd in 3:29.36!
Tripp Piperi's 70-4.25 took the SP!
Alexis Holmes's 400 of 51.27 makes her 21st A-T Collegiate, and 24th A-T US!

But maybe the best marks came in the 60H for Women!
After a heat of 7.86, Danielle Williams sped the final in 7.75!!
This makes her 11th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
Taking 2nd was Paula Salmon, whose 7.83 made her 3rd A-T Collegiate, and 12th A-T US, tied with 5 others!
Taken OFF the World list was the inimitable Jackie Joyner-Kersee!
Her 7.81 dated from 1989!!

Seattle does have an OT, but their field event marks are all valid!
Alina McDonald PV'ed 15-1 there!
And Hana Moll cleared 14-6.25, but in a different section!
Daniel Haugh's WT measured 81-9.50, but wasn't a PR!
Shey Taiwo's 82-7.75 was, however!
It makes her 2nd A-T Collegiate, and 3rd A-T on both the US and World lists!
As a bonus, she nabs the Age 22 Record!!
Janeah Stewart was a solid but far back 2nd, reaching 78-8.25!

What I thought was an enroute time for Moad Zahafi was not!!
His 800 in 1:46.29 was a separate race!
The Texas race makes him 21st A-T Collegiate!
That other race was a 1000 in 2:19.99!
It makes him 9th A-T Collegiate!

In a New Mexico meet, Lamara Distin High Jumped 6-3.50!
This makes her 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with a gang of 5 others!
Josefini Eriksen ran the 600 in 1:28.27, making her 19th A-T Collegiate!
And Charokee Young--a rising star at Texas A&M in Athing Mu's wake--ran a 400 in 51.24, making her 21st A-T Collegiate!

The new Spokane venue gave us the Lilac Grand Prix meet, with a pair of results well worth mentioning!!
Donavan Brazier blazed his 600 in 1:13.97!
This gave him the Age 24 Record!
Isaiah Harris's 1:14.95 in 2nd makes him 3rd A-T US, and 4th A-T World!!

Then the newly formed club called Nike Union AC broke the "World Record" (not officially recognized!) for the Distance Medley Relay!
Their 10:39.91 took less than a second from the old mark!
This blog counts it as the World and American Records!!
The splits were 3:16.61 for Ella Donaghu, 52.68 for Raevyn Rogers, 2:02.89 for Sinclaire Johnson, and 4:28.33 for the Shannon Osika anchor!
However, those splits don't add up to the final time--off by 0.60!!
But I'm guessing they're close!

Before we move to France (Lievin), let's check in on the HS crowd!!
Their performances are fast moving into Collegiate territory, per their quality!

Autumn Wilson's 60 in 7.28 makes her 16th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
Emma Gates HJ'ed 6-0!
James Donahue's 800 in 1:50.34 makes him 10th A-T HS!
Rheinhardt Harrison ran a Mile in 4:01.15, making him 7th A-T HS!
Mezzi Stiff (A different kind of name, but tres cool!!) had a SP mark of 51-10.75!
It ranks her 16th A-T HS!
Wyatt Stewart's PV of 17-7 makes him 9th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!

Yet another Oversize Track mark left OFF any official list, and ineligible for any record!
Pioneer (Michigan) HS ran the DMR in 11:21.95 on an OT in their home state!!
But no HSR, and no list notation!!
Sad.

Ellie Shea got the Soph Class Record with her Mile of 4:40.01!!
It ranks 12th A-T HS!
Knocked FROM my HS list was Suzy Favor-Hamilton!
Her 4:44.2 was from 1986!

For some reason, I really didn't expect Lievin to be so good--but it was, and in almost every event!!
Including a World Record!!
Jakob Ingebrigtsen took off from the gun and never looked back!
His 3:30.60 over the 1500 distance broke his own National Record of Norway, and gave him the Age 21 Record!
Sam Tefera's 3:33.70 was a far back, but quality 2nd!

Grant Holloway ran his heat in 7.40, then broke it open in the final with his 7.35!
This breaks his own Age 24 Record!

The distances for both sexes were good!
(Besides Inge's WR!!)
Gudef Tsegay fell in the early going, but recovered to take the Mile in 4:21.72!
This ranks her 12th A-T World!
Axumawit Embaye took 2nd in 4:25.30!
In 5th came Esther Guerrero's 4:28.54, good for the National Record of Spain!

Ejgayehu Taye was 2nd in 8:26.77, making her 10th A-T World!
It's rarely run, but a Men's 2000 produced some list-making times!
Samuel Zeleke won it in 4:57.00, making him 15th A-T World!
Abel Kipsang kept it tight, his 4:57.21 making him 18th A-T World!
Azashine Habz (sp??) ran 4:57.22, making him 19th A-T World, and giving him the National Record of France!!
Jimmy Gressier was 4th in 4:57.97, good for 24th A-T World!!

Lemeche Girma won the 3000 in 7:30.54!
Selemon Barega was 2nd in 7:30.66!
Then came Getnet Wale in 7:30.88!
Birhanu Yehualaw (??) ran 7:31.77, breaking his own NR of Bahrain!
It makes him 16th A-T World!
Andreas Almgren was 5th in 7:34.31, giving him Sweden's National Record!!
Natoya Goule won the 800 in 1:58.46, breaking her own National Record of Jamaica!
It makes her 23rd A-T World!
In 2nd came Halimah Nakaayi's 1:58.48!
This is the National Record of Uganda!!

Lamont Jacobs has become a force to be reckoned with!
His 6.50 easily won the 60!
But 2nd isn't always a loser!
Not at least for Ferdinand Omwurwa, whose 6.57 is the National Record of Kenya!!
Lazaro Martinez took the TJ with his 56-5.75!
Yulimar Rojas took a break from the TJ, winning the LJ with 22-4.25!

The Pole Vaults were solid!
Chris Nilsen and 19-4.75 are becoming like twins!!
Yes, another one!
The Women were led by Anzhelika Sidorova's 15-11.
This gave her the Age 30 Record!
Iryna Zhuk took 2nd with 15-9!
This broke her own NR of Belarus!
And it made her 16th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Also clearing 15-9 was Katie Nageotte in 3rd!

Europe gave us several other marks worth noting!
Chase Ealey had a SP of 63-0 in Sweden!
Abraham Seme ran the Two Mile (unusual outside the US!!) in 8:25.41 in Germany!
Sara Kuivista got Finland's National Record with her 800 in 2:02.64!
Pal Lillefosse flew over 19-1.50 in the PV to break his own National Record of Norway!
No NR (or even PR!), but KC Lightfoot's PV of 19-6.25 was rock solid!

A meet in the Netherlands had some good marks!
Jessica Schilder got the National Record of the Netherlands with her SP of 63-2.25!
Eleanor Patterson nabbed Australia's NR with her HJ clearance of 6-6.25!

He defeated Andrey Romanov, who threw 262-5!
Jimima Montez won a 20000 meter Walk in 1:27:27, giving her Australia's National Record!!

I'll close with a few miscellaneous marks--
Ajee Wilson won a 600 in 1:25.59, beating Charlene Lipsey's 1:27.36!
Alex Amankwah took a 600 in 1:15.78!
He misses the World list by just 0.08 seconds!
Don't know her first name, but a woman with the last name of MacKay ran a 1500 in 4:13.14, making her 14th A-T Collegiate!

See you soon-ish with much more INdoor news!!

Historic Times at Valentine

The title refers to the Valentine Invitational in Boston!
The "historic times"??
Let's just say that when the "B" 5000 race produces times we expect from the "A" race, and makes a mass invasion of the A-T list, then we have to think--What will the main race give us??

Woody Kincaid returned to form, winning the "B" race in 13:05.56!
This puts him 4th A-T US, and 16th A-T World!!
Ageless Lopez Lomong took 2nd with 13:07.40!
A bit back in 4th was Sean McGorty's 13:09.21.
This makes him 11th A-T US!
Adriaan Wildschutt came 5th in 13:09.36!
That's the Junior Class Record, and makes him 2nd on the A-T Collegiate list!

Steepler Evan Jager ran 13:13.23, making him 16th A-T US!
Dylan Jacobs was close behind, his 13:14.04 making him 4th A-T Collegiate, and 18th A-T US!
Willy Fink (13:16.97) and Brian Barraza (13:17.11) were 8th and 9th, respectively!
Fink is now 20th A-T US, while Barraza is 21st A-T US!!
(We're not done yet!!)
Bernard Keter's 13:21.28 makes him 24th A-T US!
A Muhammed ran 13:26.40, which makes him 20th A-T Collegiate!
And Matthew Carmody ran 13:27.34, making him 21st A-T Collegiate!

Now let's look at the "fast" race results!!

Grant Fisher cut about 9 seconds from his PR, his 12:53.73 slashing over 7 seconds from Galen Rupp's old American Record!!
He did it with a last 1600 of just under 4 minutes!!
He is also 5th A-T World!
And he gets the Age 24 Record!!
Canada's Mo Ahmed ran 12:56.87--over 3 seconds behind--but breaks his own National Record, plus getting the Age 31 Record!
He is 7th A-T World!
Marc Scott finished right behind, his 12:57.08 gaining him the Age 28 Record, and making the Brit 8th A-T World!
BTW, he also breaks his own British NR!!

Emmanuel Bor ran 13:00.48 (also faster than Rupp!!) in 4th.!
He gets the Age 33 Record!
And he's now 2nd A-T US, and 10th A-T World!
Sam Atkin's 13:03.64 makes him 13th A-T World!
Jonas Raess (sp??) was 6th, his 13:07.95 making him 24th A-T World!
Conner Mantz ended in 13:10.24, making him 11th A-T US!
Hilary Bor's 13:10.98 was 9th, and makes him 12th A-T US!
Dillon Maggard ran 13:13.62, making him 15th A-T US!

Guess who is now OFF the US list??
Yep, the child abuser and drug dispatcher himself--Alberto Salazar!
His 13:22.6 from 1981 is GONE!!
Good riddance!!

Yared Nuguse also got in on the record breaking action!
He gets the Collegiate Record, the Senior Class Record, and 7th A-T US with his 3000 winning time of 7:38.13!!
Finishing off the Men's portion, Neil Gourley's 3:35.32 gets him the World Leader in the 1500!!

But don't think the fast times and records were all from the Men!!
No way!!

A High School girl WON the 800 against Professionals and Collegiates!!
Roisin Willis's 2:00.06 slashed about 1.7 seconds off Sammy Watson's HSR!!
She also gets the Senior Class Record, and is now 17th A-T US!!
But she wasn't the only HS kid in the race!
Sophia Gorriaran ended in 4th, but her 2:00.58 nabs her the Junior Class Record, and the Age 17 Record!
She is 2nd A-T HS, and 24th A-T US!!

Lucia Stafford (Gabby's sister) took the Mile in 4:24.42!
Back in 6th was Emily Mackay, her 4:30.94 making her 19th A-T Collegiate!!
In 8th was Julia Heymach, her 4:31.35 making her 24th A-T Collegiate!!
Lauren Ryan ended 2nd in the 3000, but her 8:47.88 got her the Junior Class Record, and makes her 4th A-T Collegiate!!

Then we have the 5000!!
What a race!!
Gabby DeBues Stafford had the lead, when Elise Cranny sprinted past her with less than 200 to go!
But Stafford had something left, and she retook the lead, winning in 14:31.38!!
This breaks her own National Record of Canada by a LOT, and makes her 5th A-T World!
Cranny didn't lose much ground, and her 14:33.17 shatters Shalane Flanagan's 13 year old AR by about 14 seconds!!
She now ranks 6th A-T World!!

Courtney Frerichs was far behind in 3rd, but her 14:48.75 makes her 4th A-T US, and 13th A-T World!
Millie Paladino's 15:02.63 gave her 4th place, and makes her 9th A-T US!
Elly Henes was right behind, her 15:03.27 making her 10th A-T US!!
WHEW!!!!

The Razorback Invitational was also a solid meet!
Trey Cunningham improved to 7.42 over the 60H!

One last thing--
I want to make a statement here, by making note of some marks run on Oversize Tracks--in Seattle and Nashville!
I wish to again emphasize the uselessness of running such fast times when they DON'T COUNT for anything but bragging rights!!
I won't even give exact times, since they're totally meaningless!
Abdi Nur ran the 3000 in 7:40 in Seattle, followed by the 7:42 of Eduardo Herrera.
Ky Robinson took the 5000 in 13:21, followed by the 13:24's of Brian Fay and Cole Sprout!
Carrie Verdon ran 5000 in 15:33, with Emily Covert ending in 15:35!
In Nashville, Mario Romo ran an illegal Mile in 3:53!
Who cares??!!

See you soon with more from the INdoor season!!
