NBIN Complete (& More)

Out of curiosity, I looked back at my NBIN reports from 2016 and 2017!
Two years ago, 7 HSR's were broken, and 16 Meet Records!!
In 2017, there were 9 HSR's broken!
(I don't know the number of Meet Records taken out!)
And this year?
The Men saw ONE HSR fall, with the Women doubling that total!
In the MR department, a total of just 5 MR's were broken!!
NOT the greatest year in NBIN history!!

But one thing this meet ALWAYS produces---every year!---are the biggest truckload of Top 24 Marks for a HS meet!
And that's where most of the news will come from!!
Let's do the HSR's first!

The Jungle TC took down the 4 X Mile Relay mark by 5.35 seconds, their 17:01.82 averaging about 4:15.45 per Mile!!
It's of course the NBIN Meet Record!

The Women's Bullis TC was rather productive, getting TWO High School Records!!
They nailed the Shuttle Hurdle Relay (4 X 55 meters) with their 30.44!

But even more impressive was their 1:34.75 over the 4 X 200 Relay route!
Averaging 23.69 each leg, they crushed the record by a whopping 1.11 seconds!!
Both marks are also NBIN Meet Records!

The individuals looked at the most pre-meet were Katelyn Tuohy, Anthony Schwartz, Ty Cooper & Brian Herron, and Trey Knight--and all of them produced great marks!

Schwartz had said he wanted Casey Combest's HSR of 6.57 in the 60!
And Heat and Semi times of 6.63 and 6.62 made that promise seem likely!
That 6.63 made him---in his first-ever INdoor race!!--4th A-T HS, tied with 3 others!
Mario Heslop took 2nd with 6.72.
The 6.62 moved him up to 3rd, tied with 1 other!

In the Final, he was all alone at the tape, his 6.59 falling 0.02 short of Combest's mark!!
He moved from 3rd, tied with 1 other, to 2nd!!

Tyrese Cooper fell foul to some sad outcomes!!
In the 60 Heats, he False Started!
Then, in the 400 Final, his hamstring stopped his race on the 1st lap!

But that didn't keep Brian Herron from taking the reins, his 46.31 breaking his own Junior Class Record, as well as the NBIN Meet Record!!
This was a productive race, as 2nd placer Nicholas Ramey's 46.78 made him 9th A-T HS!
And 3rd placer Trey Johnson's 46.99 made him 14th A-T HS!!

Trey Knight had an INCREDIBLE 6-throw series in the Weight Throw!!
While falling short of his Soph Class Record, his 82-11 easily took the Gold!
But what a series!
Four of his 6 efforts went 80-6.50 or farther!
And the "worst" throw was "just" 78-4.50!!
Can't wait to see what he does with the OUTdoor Hammer!!

And Ms Tuohy??
Well, when you say a Two Mile time of 9:58.89 is just so-so, you know you're talking about one amazing runner!!
As her early season times of 9:05.26 (3000) and 15:37.12 (5000) indicated!!
But she wanted to help her North Rockland team more than she sought solo glory!

After legs of 4:38 for 1600 in the DMR (They won it in 11:44 & change!), and about 2:10 in a losing SMR, she took to the starting line in the Deuce, facing a not-so weak foe in Kelsey Chmiel, who holds the OUTdoor Soph Class Record in the 3000, with her 9:18 from last spring!!
And stick to Tuohy Chmiel did!!
Having watched her 5000 HSR many times, I saw immediately that the fluid motion she showed throughout those 25 laps earlier were not there in the Armory!!
Despite a first Mile in 4:50, I could see she wouldn't be able to hold it!
Too much taken out of her legs in those 2 Relays!!

Despite that, her 9:58.89 SMASHED the Soph Class Record by about 12 seconds!!
This makes her 5th A-T HS!!
(She actually split faster during her 5000--by about a second!!)
Chmiel's 10:02.36 moved her from 21st A-T HS to 6th!!
Enroute, Chmiel split 9:21.12 at 3000, moving her from 10th to 8th on that A-T HS list!!

The 5000--for the first time since the 2010 race (!!)--did NOT produce a HSR!!
But Jacqueline Gaughan's 16:19.42 did win that race--easily!
It makes her 9th A-T HS!
She was in the 2 Mile also, her 10:16 & change taking a far back 3rd!

Another NBIN Meet Record fell in the Mile Walk, with Taylor Ewart Walking to clear victory with her 6:49.12!
She'd been on pace to break her own HSR (6:45+), but she backed off the last few laps--to save herself for the Two Mile RUN, where she finished 11th in 10:40!!

Another impressive athlete was the Super Frosh Tamari Davis!!
Starting things off with a blast, she sped the one lapper Heat in 23.24!!
This broke her own Frosh Class Record, and moved her from 7th to 6th on the A-T HS list!!

She then ran her 60 Semi in 7.33.
In the Final, she showed that the 200 might be her SECOND best distance!!
Her 7.25 broke her own Frosh Class Record, and the NBIN Meet Record!!
She moved from 15th A-T HS, tied with 6 others, to 5th, where she's tied with 1 other!!
But maybe more astounding is that at Age 15, she is just 0.05 seconds removed from Ewe Swoboda's Age 17 World Record!!
BTW, both her 200 and 60 times are World Age 15 Records!!

In the 200 Final, all her speedy racing caught up with her, as she could produce "only" a 23.46!!
She won that race, but Abby Steiner's 23.51 was a fairly close 2nd!
Steiner is 13th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

The Men's 200's were fast also!
The Heats saw Eric Allen run 21.08, making him 10th A-T HS!
Austin Kratz was 2nd, his 21.11 not a PR!
Ty Cooper ran his only complete race, his 21.36  in 3rd matching Mario Heslop's 21.36 in 4th!

In the Final, it was Kratz's 21.01 taking the W, moving him from 11th A-T HS, tied with 4 others, to 7th!
Eric Allen tied his PR of 21.08 in 2nd, leaving him 11th A-T HS!

Both 60H events were full of fast times!!
In the Men's Heats, Pentathlete's (See below!) Ayden Owens and Kurt Powdar both ran 7.71's, with Powdar's making him 19th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
He improved to 7.64 in the Semi's, moving him up to 10th, tied with 1 other!

BUT---he False Started in the Final!!
So Ayden Owens took the Win with his 7.59!
This moves him from 17th A-T HS to 4th, tied with 1 other!!
Another Pentathlete--in fact the Winner here!--finished a far back 2nd, but Kyle Garland's 7.74 misses my HS list by just 0.01 seconds!!

Speaking of that 5-event Event, Garland's 4169 score keeps him 4th A-T HS!!
But Powdar's 3969 in 2nd makes him 11th A-T HS!!

The Women's Pent was even better, as HJ specialist Anna Hall came THIS close to the "untouchable" 4068 HSR of Kendell Williams from 2013!!
Her 4054 points gave her the Junior Class Record!
She moves from 4th A-T HS to 2nd!!
Sterling Lester scored 3976 in 2nd!
She moves from 18th A-T HS to 3rd!!
And Annika Williams's 3765 in the Bronze position makes her 6th A-T HS!!

Now back to those 60H's!
The Women's Semi's saw Jasmine Jones and Grace Stark run matching times of 8.15!
While not a PR for Stark, for Jones, it's the Soph Class Record, breaking one Sydney McLaughlin's mark of 8.17, dating from 2015!!
Time flies, eh??
It also made Jones 8th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

And the Final, as expected, was faster still!
A Ms Jones won the race, but it wasn't Jasmine!!
Tia Jones ran 8.05 to take down the Junior Class Record!!
Stark ended 2nd, also in 8.05--separated by thousandth's of a second!!
So she ALSO gets the Junior Class Record!!
For Jones, she moves from 8th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 2nd, where she's now tied with Stark!
For Stark, she moves from 5th A-T HS into 2nd, also tied there with Jones!
Jasmine Jones ran a solid 8.17 in 3rd!
And Emily Sloan ran 8.19 in 4th, also not a PR!
Jada Hicks's time of 8.28 in 5th makes her 20th A-T HS!!

In the rest of this prestigious meet---
Athing Mu first won the Emerging Elite 400 in 54.98, setting a Meet Record!
She later took the "elite" 800 in 2:06.59, moving her from 17th A-T HS to 14th!

Jett (!!) Charvet took the Men's race in 1:50.91, making him 15th A-T HS!
Second was Ian Delgado's 1:51.06, making him 17th A-T HS!

Chad Johnson took the Men's 5000 in 14:42.59, making him 16th A-T HS!
Connor Nisbet's 14:44.82 followed, making him 19th A-T HS!

With Brodey Hasty providing a 1600 anchor of 4:09.29, his Brentwood TC DMR team ran 9:56.31, just 0.13 seconds off the HSR!
St Anthony's of NY was 2nd in 9:58.36, making them the 3rd best Team A-T!
Speaking of Mr Hasty, he took the Two Mile in 9:00.38!
Ryan Oosting ran 9:01.87 for 2nd!

The Men's PV saw Zach Bradford clear 18-0.50, moving him from 7th A-T HS to 2nd--behind Mr Mondo Duplantis!!
KC Lightfoot improved to 17-9, but he remains 8th A-T HS!
Favored Reagann Le Leux ended just 7th in the Women's event, her best being 12-10.25!
The winner was Nastassja Campbell's 13-6.25, which makes her 22nd A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

Jasmine Moore's TJ of 42-11.75 breaks her own Junior Class Record!
She moves from 7th A-T HS to 6th, tied with 1 other!
Arianna Fisher took 2nd with her 42-0.50, making her 19th A-T HS!
Moore also took 3rd in the LJ, her 20-5.25 moving her from 22nd A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 18th!

The Women's 400 had some good marks.
Arria Minor took the Heats with her 53.57, but Alexis Holmes's 53.67 makes her 19th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Minor's 52.74 took the Final, moving her from 15th A-T HS to 5th!
Holmes improved slightly, to 53.63, but it moves her from 19th A-T HS, tied with 1 other, to 19th, but with no ties!
Kimberly Harris ran 53.77 in 3rd, making her 21st A-T HS!

Mayson Connor took the Men's HJ with his 7-1.75, which misses my HS DDD by 0.25 inches!!
The Jungle TC ran 7:39.30 in the 4 X 800 Relay, making them 2nd A-T HS!
And in the Mile races, Dustin Horter ran 4:08.03, making him 24th A-T HS!
The Women's race went to Katelynn Hart's 4:45.47!

Well, let's close off this baby with some OTHER news!!

I first must tell you that Anita Marton's winning SP mark at the WC's--64-4.50--is the National Record of Hungary!!
(She just opened her OUTdoor season with a World Leading mark of 62-11.75!)

Sandra Perkovic opened her season with meets 2 days apart!
Her DT marks were 224-6 and 226-9!

In the Gate River 15K--a USATF race--Molly Huddle walloped Jordan Hasay by 50 seconds, her 47:50 beating Hasay's 48:40!
Molly Seidel ran 49:20 for 3rd, while Rachel McFarlane also got under 50 minutes with her 49:43 in 4th!
Len Korir took the Men's race in 43:06, beating Sam Chelanga's 43:15, and Martin Hehir's 43:19!

Johannes Vetter improved to 304-1 in the JT at the European Throwers meet!!

Meskerem Assefa won the Nagoya (Japan) Women's Marathon with her 2:21:45!

Finally (!!), we have Galen Rupp winning the Rome Half Marathon in 59:47!
This course is point-to-point, and loses about 20 meters in altitude!
But with crosswinds, and a couple of up-hills, it's considered a tough course!
Anyway, Rupp's time is just 4 seconds removed from Ryan Hall's American Record of 59:43!!
Rupp moves from 6th A-T US to 2nd!!

And that closes my Results reports from the 2018 INdoor season!
Coming soon (next 10 days or so??) will be my INdoor Wrap-Up, followed by several OUTdoor Previews!!
But more on that later!!

See you soon--OUTdoors!!
