Same format as for the Men!
Following the schedule for FINALS, day by day!
FRIDAY's FINALS
5000 (16:10.79)
The "problem" of Weini Kelati!
What to do if she CRUSHES the MR by 20 seconds or more--which she seems capable of doing?
Well, I'll deal with that later!
But even with Kelati's time a possible question mark, the possibility of seeing this event's MR (and HSR!!) being broken for the SIXTH consecutive year is pretty secure.
After the Eritrean-emigre, we have standbys Stephanie Jenks and Hannah Debalsi, plus Maryjeanne Gilbert to make things interesting!
All that said, IF Kelati runs up to her potential, look for a time well under 16:00 for her---maybe even faster than Mary Cain's OUTdoor HSR of 15:45.56!!
DMR (11:38.60)
The Lake Braddock TC has Mile stud Kate Murphy on anchor!
If she can run 4:40 or so, the other legs would have to be about 3:38, 60, and 2:20 to get the MR!
Anything faster than those times for the 1200, 400, and 800, and Murphy can cruise home!
The North Rockland TC has Middle Schooler Katelyn Tuohy anchoring.
The John Jay TC is made up of 2 Nuttall's and 2 Nohilly's!!
HJ (6-0.50)
WORLD Class HJ'er Vashti Cunningham is at the USATF meet, with an excellent chance to make TeamUSA for the Portland WC's!!
(See my USATF Preview later tonight!)
So that leaves this event's MR fairly safe.
Top contenders should be Shayla Broughton and Lily Lowe.
Emerging Elite 2 Mile
There's one name worth watching--Rylee Bowen!
SATURDAY's FINALS
Pentathlon (4068 points)
No one will take the Meet and HS Record from Kendell Williams!
Watch for Shayla Broughton to lead the others.
1 Mile Walk (7:00.33)
As with the Men, not aware of the potential of any of these Walkers.
But let's cheer them on!
Will the 7 minute barrier be broken?
Shuttle Hurdles Relay (31.22)
Again, as with the Men, don't keep lists or records for this event.
(Had to check my HS Track book for the record!)
Will report, however, if broken!
4XMile Relay (19:59.24)
Don't know why California's Great Oaks team, with its incredible depth, and star Destiny Collins on anchor, didn't enter!
I'm sure they'd break the HSR!
The Ursaline School TC, with Anna Flynn, is worth watching.
You know how we always joke about Belgium's Men's 4X400 team being the BORLEE team, because of 3 from that family usually on the team?
Well, would you believe that there's FOUR from the Mancini family on the--sic!--4XMancini TC, from Pennsylvania?!!
Pretty certain the 2 sophs are twins!
Then there's a frosh and a senior Mancini girl also!
Oh, BTW, Anna Flynn has the help of two other Flynn's on HER team!!
SMR (3:52.68)
The Suffern TC has 600 stud Kamryn McIntosh on the 800.
But they'll be chasing a SUPER team from Rush-Henrietta!
And THAT team, which has Lanae Tava Thomas on one of the shorter legs, and Sammy Watson on the 800, will be chasing the HSR, which is also this MR!
I say they'll get it!
4X800 Relay (8:54.11)
Middle Schooler Tuohy will probably anchor her North Rockland HS TC team!
Lincoln Sudbury TC has Ariel Keklak anchoring!
Don't be too surprised to see 8th Grader Tuohy breaking the tape!
(But not the MR!)
SP (56-7.50)
As with the Men, this field has some excellent throwers!
Alyssa Wilson, who recently got a PR of 54-11, should be favored, as she's been consistent over 52 feet all season!
But so has Nickolette Dunbar, whose PR is 53-2!
But there's more!
All with 50+ marks, we have Sophia Rivera, Kathleen Young, and Elena Bruckner ready to pounce if the frontrunners stumble!
There's also WT leader Jill Shippee ready to join this sorority!
Should be one of the best Women's events, with 50-50 odds to take down Raven Saunders's HSR!
LJ (20-11.75)
This MR can go down, but might not!
Courtney Corrin should win this, but watch for Tara Davis and Samiyah Samuels to challenge.
SUNDAY's FINALS
4X200 Relay (1:36.25)
Looks like this MR is safe.
2 Mile (9:55.92)
Weini Kelati returns from Friday's 5000 to challenge this MR.
And she CAN break it!
However, Hannah Debalsi and Kate Murphy should challenge, even though they'll have had previous races too!
Add Kelsey Chmiel, Sara Platek, and Jessica Lawson as possible high placers!
Might Kelati challenge Cain's 9:38.68 HSR??
60H (8.11)
I'm guessing Dior Hal's HSR is safe here!
But there's a fairly strong field in this event!
Anna Cockrell will have Alexis Duncan, Tonea Marshal, Tara Davis, and Tia Jones to challenge!
Looks like the future of American Women's High Hurdling is secure!
60 (7.26)
This MR could go down, despite no one having broken 7.30 yet this year!
Another good field sees Lauren Rain Wiliams being tested by Lanae Tava Thomas, Lynna Irby, Cassondra Hall, Zaria Francis, Tia Jones, and Jayla Kirkland!
400 (51.93)
Sydney McLaughlin-according to Mile Split, will be going "balls out" here, hoping to get Fran McCorory's HSR!
And she CAN!
Lauryn Ghee and Brooklynn Broadwater will run fast too, but nowhere near McLaughlin!
Mile (4:38.46)
Kate Murphy will have Katie Rainsberger and Stephanie Jenks-two women who don't mind leading-to push her to a MR-something she's more than capable of getting!
But will they turn it into a tactical race, going just for the win?
Murphy seems capable of 4:32!
Brianna Gess, Rylee Bowen, Madie Boreman, Ariel Keklak, and Anna Flynn should be in the mix too!
800 (2:03.59)
If Sammy Watson is fresh, she can not only challenge this MR, but maybe the HSR of Mary Decker (Slaney) as well!!
That's 2:01.8, dating from 1974!!
Sarah Edwards and Clare Martin, who ran fast 1000's recently, will be up there!
200 (23.46)
Here's another MR that can be broken!
Lauren Rain Williams should be the tape breaker, and maybe the MR breaker too!
Several women will give her a race, among them Lanae Tava Thomas, Lynna Irby, Jayla Kirkland, Tia Jones, Zaria Francis, and Anna Cockrell.
4X400 Relay (3:42.03)
Ms McLaughlin returns here with her Union Catholic team to go after this MR.
It's doable, unless all her other races wear her out!
Springside Chestnut Hill has Ms Broadwater as their anchor!
WT (68-2.50)
The MR is the HSR, and won't go down!
But Jill Shippee is a 60 footer, and could add some to that mark.
Kamryn Brinson might move up to 60 also!
Shot Putters Alyssa Wilson and Nickolette Dunbar join the party!
TJ (44-2)
The best--Titiana Marsh--isn't here!
That should give the win to Chinne Okoronkwo.
But watch for Tara Davis!
PV (14-2.75)
No 14's this year--yet!--but it may stay that way, as the Women's HS PV is not quite up to the heights--literally speaking!--it was in recent years!
Carson Dingler is the best one here.
Erica Ellis, the Frosh who competed in meets with Jenn Suhr back in December-might go for the Frosh Class record of 12-9.
A noted name is that of Reagann LeLeux, younger sister of Morgann!
She's a Soph!
Freshman 60
A "name" athlete here is Tia Jones!
