Are you ready?
This is the first of SIX posts Previewing the three HUGE Championship meets happening starting tomorrow!
I'll follow with the NBIN Women's Preview, then both genders for the NCAA and USATF meets!
(I should be finished by midnight, Pacific Time!)
I'll be doing the events in the basic order in which that event's FINALS takes place!
(It won't be exact, because of overlap from field events and the Multi's!)
The predictions are for which MEET Records might be broken, and by whom!
FRIDAY's FINALS
5000 (14:06.78)
This is one of the weakest fields I've seen for an NBIN 5K, whether Men or Women!
So look for Viraj Deokar to dominate!
The MR looks quite safe!
DMR (10:00.75)
Drew Hunter will be running anchor for his team, The Jungle TC.
But he doesn't have the back-up support needed to take down this tough MR.
Watch for Patriot Athletics, anchored by Thomas Ratcliffe, to give chase!
Emerging Elite 400
I don't normally care much about the EE races, except for the rare "stud" who's entered.
Well, would Brian Herron qualify?
He's the one who ran 47.39 on Vanderbilt's 300 meter Oversize Track!
Now he gets to show what he can do on a LEGAL track!!
Forget whatever the MR is for this!
I predict he'll get the Frosh Class record, however!
Emerging Elite 200
There's some space between them, so Herron can possibly get the Frosh Class record here too!
SATURDAY's FINALS
Pentathlon (4307 points)
Grant Holloway is entered!
If he matches his 5 PR's here, his score would be a HSR 4421 points!
With a 113 point cushion (or about 23 per event!), I predict Gunnar Nixon's record will go!
1 Mile Walk (6:06.13)
Have no idea about the potential of the Walkers!
But let's honor and respect these athletes!
Shuttle Hurdles Relay (29.20)
I don't follow this event---at any level!
But I will report a MR, if it happens!
4XMile Relay (17:07.17)
3:57.81 Miler Hunter is back again with his Jungle TC!
Again, not sure if his support is fast enough to give them the MR (and HSR!).
Let's hope he gets the baton with 13:10 or faster on the clock!
Then watch him run his THIRD sub-4 of the year!!
Other good squads include Cumberland TC, with Sean Laverty anchoring, and Fordham Prep TC, with Conor Lundy closing!
SMR (3:24.16)
This MR looks safe!
The only team with a strong leg is Xbc TC, with Brandon McGorty running the 800!
4X800 Relay (7:36.99)
VERY safe!
No real anchor studs!
LJ (25-11.50)
Grant Holloway is skipping this open event for the Pentathlon!
So look for Harrison Schrage to win, but no MR!
PV (17-11.25)
Call this movie--MONDO!
If he's on, the MR, his own HSR, AND the World Age 16 records are GONE!!
Duplantis says he wants 18-3!
And if he gets that, I doubt he'll stop there!
Other 17 footers are Zach McWhorter and Nick Johnson.
SP (71-0.25)
There are TWO 70 foot guys in this!
Jordan Geist should be favored, but watch out for Adrian (Tripp) Piperi, who just threw 70-1 OUTdoors!
The MR should be revised here!
HJ (7-5.25)
VERY safe!!
The highest jumper isn't here.
Jaron Brooks is good, and should win.
SUNDAY's FINALS
4X200 Relay (1:27.04)
TC Williams TC, with Josephus and Noah Lyles on 2 of the legs, have run 1:27.29--twice!!
I'd give them 70-30 odds to take this MR out!
2 Mile (8:40.70)
Hunter has chosen to run Relays only!
So I'd say this MR will stand.
The best shot for a win should be Garek Bielaczyc, but Aidan Tooker, Conor Lundy, and Thomas Ratcliffe should provide strong challenges!
60H (7.59)
Holloway is running this open race!
Thus, this MR is in mortal danger.
(Unless he's wiped out from the Pentathlon!)
60 (6.57)
Despite both Lyles brothers being here, as well as Cravont Charleston and Frosh Phenom Tyrese Cooper, this venerable Meet AND HS Record appears safe for another year!
But these guys have TONS of potential, so will be interesting to watch!
Will Cooper run faster than his 6.78 Frosh Class record?
400 (46.57)
Josephus Lyles CAN get this MR.
But he's racing often this weekend.
His opponents include the year's fastest, Keshun Reed, Will Allen, and fast 600 man Rodney Agyare-May!
Mile (4:03.54)
This MR appears fairly safe, unless either Viraj Deokar or Noah Affolder can shave 5 or more seconds off their PR's!
800 (1:49.94)
Brandon McGorty has the fastest 800 and 1000 this year.
But he'd have to cut about 2 full seconds off his 800 time to get this MR.
I'll give him 40-60 odds!
Don't know his times, or potential, but his NAME rings a bell!
I'm talking about Alex Lomong, who I think is Lopez's younger brother--or otherwise related!
Watch for him!
200 (20.83)
With his OUTdoor time of 20.18, Noah Lyles should DESTROY this MR!
Wouldn't shock me at all to see him go under 20.50!
Keshun Reed is also in this, but watch to see what Freshman Ty Cooper does!
4X400 Relay (3:13.34)
This MR should stand.
No real speedsters on these teams--that I know of!
TJ (52-7.50)
This event is in a dry period for HS Men!
There's just 1 fifty footer this season!
But Ronel Forde is here.
He'd have to add more than a foot to his year's leader for the MR!
WT (92-7.50)
As with the Pentathlon and the 60H, there's just one name to really watch here--Bobby Colantonio!
But he's more than 10 feet from the MR.
That said, he's a great one!
Stand by, folks!
The Women's NBIN Preview is coming soon!
