Records Keep Going Down, Down, DOWN!

It's been observed of late (on the T&FN Message Board) that this early OUTdoor season is seeing a LOT of marks not expected to happen in March and April!
Some feel there should be a letdown in a "post-Olympic" year!
I disagree!
This past INdoor season saw a record number of marks added to my Top 24 A-T Performers lists!
As you'll soon see, this trend is continuing OUTdoors!
So instead of referring to 2022 as a "post-Olympic" year, I see it as "a World Championship year"--and even more important, as a HOME WC year!!!
Whatever the reasons, it's exciting!!

The Arcadia meet for HS'ers is one such venue for great early season marks, even if limited to High Schoolers!
As noted many times, I don't care about marks made over the 1600 and 3200 distances, as I prefer the One and Two Milers!
However, we can't ignore what 2 of the Newbury Park crew ran over 3200 here!
Colin Sahlman timed 8:34.99 (sub-60 last 400), beating his teammate Lex Young, who ended in 8:35.72!
Dalia Frias also shone over that distance, as her 9:55.50 showed us!

Both Moll twins took over after the other PV'ers had finished!
Amanda wound up beating her sister Hana, 14-4 to 13-10!
JaiCieonna Gero-Holt (Gotta create a shortened name for this phenom!!) High Jumped 6-0, but missed the Frosh Class Record by three-fourths of an inch!
Gabriela Garcia's JT of 165-0 ranks her 23rd A-T HS!
Simeon (sp??) Birnbaum won the Mile in 4:07.88!
Allison Ince took the 800 in 2:05.42!
Cade Moran won the SP with a 66-10!

But the standout performance goes to Sadie Englehardt!!
Her 4:35.16 full Mile breaks her own already great Frosh Class Record from just weeks ago!!
She now ranks 3rd A-T HS--as a freakin' 9th Grader!!!
In 2nd came Chloe Foerster, whose 4:40.27 misses my HS list by a mere 0.03 seconds!!

Florida's Jones Memorial was STACKED this year, and the marks were reflective of that!!
For example, Erriyon Knighton--still a HS'er despite being a Professional--ran the 100 in 10.04!
As you know, I have a special Records section for HS PRO's, which has both the records, and Class records!
Knighton's time is the HS PRO record and the Junior Class record for HS PRO's!!
And he beat Noah Lyles, who ran 10.05!
In a separate race, Matt Boling's 9.98 misses the Collegiate list by just 0.01 seconds!

Moad Sahafi took the 2 lapper in 1:43.69, nabbing him the Senior Class Record!
He ranks 3rd A-T Collegiate!
Trey Cunningham ran the 110H in 13.22--in his heat!!
This ranks him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
He won the final in 13.38!
Randolph Ross and Ryan Willie had a close race in the 400, Ross edging Willie, 45.15 to 45.16!
Matthew Hudson-Smith, a Brit, took another 400 in 44.82!
Quincy Hall won the 400H in 48.55!

Both Men's Relays were top tier!
An Adidas team--with Knighton and Grant Holloway on 2 of the legs!--took the 4 X 100 in 38.09!
But the 4 X 400 saw the 2nd place team (!!) break the Collegiate Record!!
An Adidas team won in a quick 2:57.72!
Right behind them, Florida's 2:58.53 broke the Collegiate Record!!
Georgia was next in 3:02.20!
They were followed in quick succession by TCU's 3:02.26 and Texas A&M's 3:02.37!

The Women were definitely no slouches!!
Favour Ofili took the Collegiate Record under 22 seconds, her 21.96 also being the Soph Class Record and the National Record of Nigeria!!
Charokee Young also got under a significant barrier by winning the 400 in 49.87!
This breaks her own Soph Class Record, and ranks her 4th A-T Collegiate!

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won a 100H race in 12.39, beating Nia Ali's 12.59!
In a separate race, after a heat of 12.67, Grace Stark timed 12.58, making her 10th A-T Collegiate!
In 2nd was Alia Armstrong, whose 12.61 makes her 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Paula Salmon's 12.63 in 3rd makes her 17th A-T Collegiate!

Shaunae Miller-Uibo's 49.91 led the 400!
Melissa Jefferson sped a 100 in 11.00, making her 21st A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
In another section, Shania Collins won in 10.98!
The Tumbleweed TC took the 4 X 100 in 42.33!
In 2nd came North Carolina A&T, whose 42.83 making them 10th A-T School, tied with 1 other!
Sinteyehu Vissa won the 800 in 2:01.06, making her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
She beat Imogen Barrett's 2:01.65.
Barrett also ran the 1500 in 4:14.65!

Field events weren't ignored!
Jasmine Moore took the Triple Jump with her 46-2!
Natricia Hooper was close, her 46-0.50 making her 17th A-T Collegiate!!
Remember Madison Wiltrout?
Several years ago, when a HS'er, her 185-8 won her the HSR in the Javelin Throw!
Then she got injured, and needed surgery, so the rest of her HS career was spent clawing her way back!
And now she's finally PR'ed!!
Her 187-4 at the Jones meet misses my Collegiate list by 11 inches!
But keep an eye on this former prodigy!
Katelyn Fairchild--another star when in HS--hit the ground at 179-2!
She's a Frosh!

The Brian Clay Invitational is another Spring meet that produces solid marks!
That rep was sustained here by Abel Kipsang, who ran a stunning Collegiate Record time of 3:33.74 in the 1500 meters!!
It's also the Soph Class Record!!
Canadian Pro Will Paulson pushed him, timing 3:33.97!
In a separate section, Abdi Nur won in 3:36.33!
This ranks him 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Jonathan Davis ended in 3:36.85, making him owner of the caboose position on my A-T Collegiate list!!

Maybe even more interesting for history buffs is who were shoved OFF my Collegiate list!!
Eamonn Coghlan is now OFF the list, his 3:37.01 dating from 1976!!
Also GONE is one Matthew Centrowitz, whose 3:36.92 dates from 2009!!

Thomas Staines won the 800 in 1:45.28!
Max Vollmer scored 8022 points in the Decathlon!
Katelynn McDonald ran the 800 in 2:00.98, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!
Anna Camp Bennett's 2:01.09 took 2nd!
Elise Thorner won the 3000SC in 9:40.98, making her 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Logan Jolly also ran well, ending 2nd in 9:45.47!

Both 5000's were good!
Taylor Roe took the Women's race in 15:21.47, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!
Brian Fay won the Men's division in 13:16.52!
This makes him 7th A-T Collegiate!
Morgan Beadlescomb kept it tight, his 13:17.16 making him 9th A-T Collegiate.
Eduardo Herrera was 3rd in 13:20.30, making him 20th A-T Collegiate!

Coming in the next post will be the best marks from the venerable Mt SAC Relays, which came attached this year to USATF's Golden Games, the so called elite portion of the meet!
BTW, Mt SAC was returning after 2 years absence due to Covid and other factors!
Welcome back!!

See you soon, as I continue to bring my blog back up to the present day!!
