Many Roads to Eugene (a pun of sorts!)

This blog covers all facets of our sport--Track & Field, of course, INdoors & OUTdoors, Men & Women!
But also races run (or WALKED) on various Roads around the World!
And this post is FILLED with goodies from the Roads!

Robyn Stevens got named USATF's Athlete of the Week recently, and for good reason!
Her 35K race in Dudince, Slovakia was near perfection!
The only US Woman there, she began in 11th place, then moved to 4th, and finally ended in 5th (slowed due to a hamstring niggle)!
That's a VERY high placing for an American in an international race!!
Her time of 2:49:29 smashed the American Record of Miranda Melville by close to 11 minutes!!
Shenjie Qieyang won the race in 2:43:06, with Kimberly Garcia 2nd in 2:43:19!
Stevens finished just 17 seconds out of 4th!!
The Men's race went to Massimo Stano, time of 2:29:09!
He beat Jose Doctor's 2:29:24!
Jose Barrondo took the 20K in 1:20:56!

A China 35K went to Hao Xu in 2:31:48, with the Women's winner being Zhenxia Ma's 2:47:38!
A 35K in Japan saw the Men's race going to Masatora Kawano, his 2:26:40 making him 2nd A-T World!
Dasuke Matsunaga ended 2nd in 2:27:09, making him 3rd A-T World!
And Tomoshiro Noda's time of 2:27:18 in 3rd makes him 4th A-T World!
For the Women, Soreno Sonada won in 2:45:48, making her 4th A-T World!!

The World Team Trials 20K was Walked on a track!
Canada's Ben Thorne won in 1:24:46, but the first American was Nick Christie in 1:30:32.
Katie Burnett won the Women's race in 1:44:02!
Finally (for the Walks), Christie won the USATF 20K (road) in 1:24:36!
Miranda Melville's 1:36:01 finished well ahead of AR holder Maria Michta-Coffey's 1:39:55!!

The Boston Marathon returned to its traditional spring date!
Evans Chebet removed himself from Lawrence Cherono very late in the race, winning in 2:06:51 over Cherono's 2:07:21!
In 7th came the lead American, Scott Fauble!
His 2:08:52 makes him 8th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
In 9th was Elkanah Kibet's 2:09:07, making him 14th A-T US!

Maybe the greatest RACE of the year was Boston's duel over the final mile between Ababel Yeshanah and Peres Jepchirchir!
Going back and forth several times, Jepchirchir finally prevailed, time of 2:21:01 to Yeshanah's 2:21:05!
Mary Ngugi was 3rd in 2:21:32!
Forty two year old Edna Kiplagat ended 4th in 2:21:40, great for ANY age!!
The leading American turned out to be Nell Rojas, her PR of 2:25:57 making her 17th A-T US!
(As my readers know, I include Boston course times on my lists, as I feel its toughness offsets it's slight downhill measurement!)
Stephanie Bruce is ending her career, and finished 12th in 2:28:02!
Des Linden was 13th in 2:28:47!
Favored American Molly Seidel DNF'ed around 16 miles!

The Hamburg Marathon saw Yelemzerf Yehualaw run the fastest ever debut race, her 2:17:23 giving her the Ethiopia National Record, and the Age 22 Record!
It makes her 6th A-T World!
Cy Kotut's 2:04:47 just edged Stephen Kissa's 2:04:48, but Kissa got the NR of Uganda as a consolation prize!!
The Women's division at the Vienna Marathon was won by Vibian (correct spelling!) Chepkurui, time of 2:20:59!
The always quick Rotterdam Marathon Men's race was won by Abdi Nagiege (sp??) in 2:04:56!

Mosinet Geremew won a close Men's race in 2:04:43 over the 2:04:49 by Hespasa Nieyasa (sp??)!!
Daniel Nascimento was 3rd in 2:04:51, but gets Brazil's NR for his effort!
And...we have Elish McColgan winning a 5K race in 14:45!!

I have such a variety of marks from everywhere that I've decided to report them in event groups!
