Folks, It's the Penn & Drake Show!

 Thank you, thank you!
And welcome to the Annual Penn & Drake Relays Show!
You'll see the Elites!
The Collegiates!
High Schoolers!
Relay teams galore!

But this year's Emmy goes to (Envelope please!) PENN!!
No contest!

In a thrilling last leg of the 4 X 1500, Katelyn Tuohy and Krissy Gear battled almost to the line, with Arkansas getting the Collegiate Record over North Carolina State, despite Tuohy's 4:09.8 being faster than Gear's 4:10.7!!
Both teams took over a dozen seconds off Tennessee's old mark, dating from 2009!
Arkansas's time was 16:53.87, while NC St ended in 16:55.19!
It's also the Meet Record, obviously!

The Men's University 4 X Mile (Why don't the Women run the 4 X Mile also??) was slower, but exciting!
Texas won in 16:17.45, followed closely by Virginia (16:17.89), Providence (16:17.92), and Georgetown (16:18.04)!
Two more teams ran 16:19.01 or faster!

Both DMR's were good also!
BYU's Women ran 10:50.22 for the win, making them 3rd A-T School!
Mississippi ended in 10:55.81, and are ranked 7th A-T School!
Indiana's 10:59.54 makes them 15th A-T School!
Mississippi also took the Men's race, their 9:29.45 prevailing over the 9:29.79 by Wisconsin!
Mississippi is now 9th A-T School, while the Badgers rank 12th A-T School!
Connecticut's 9:30.31 makes them 13th A-T School!
In 4th came Virginia, their 9:30.69 making them 15th A-T School!
Back in 7th was Miami of Ohio, their 9:33.08 ranking them 20th A-T School!

Mississippi had a great meet, as their Men also won the 4 X 800, time of 7:13.71!

The individual races were great also!
Especially the Women's 600!!
Athing Mu won in 1:22.74!
(I don't have a list for the OUTdoor 600, but Mu is 2nd A-T World & US!)
Natoya Goule took 2nd in 1:24.09, which is the National Record of Jamaica!
Nia Akins was next in 1:25.14!

But then came a shocker!
High School Junior Sophia Gorriaran's spectacular 1:25.22 finished ahead of Ajee Wilson's 1:25.87!
Olivia Baker also beat Wilson, time of 1:25.28!
Imagine these times being run INdoors, where I do have A-T lists!!
Wherever they run, Gorriaran's time is absolutely astounding!!
This puts her on point for a HSR over 800 meters later this season!!
Roisin Willis, you've been warned!!
As for Ajee, her 1:25.87 was NOT a "bad" race, even though she faded over the final 150!
It's just that 5 women ran faster!!

The Men's 600 was good, but paled in comparison to the Women's!
Alex Amankwah won it in 1:15.88 to Rajay Hamilton's 1:16.00!
Kameron Jones's 1:16.47 took 3rd!

The elite Men also had a 4 X Mile!
They'd talked of going sub-16!
But it turned out to be just trash talk, as the opening leg took 2:08-ish for the first 880 yards!!
But the On AC's Joe Klecker and Ollie Hoare salvaged a bit of the rep, their legs being 3:58.25 and 3:55.18, respectively!
Their team won in 16:04.89 over Dublin TC's 16:10.04!
On's time ranked them 8th A-T World!

South Carolina won the Women's 4 X 400, their 3:26.53 prevailing over Ohio State's 3:28.07, the latter ranking them 18th A-T School!
Sydney McLaughlin won the 100H in a decent 12.75!
Sage Hurta dipped under two minutes in the 800, her 1:59.76 being her initial foray into sub-2 territory!
High Schooler Juliette Whittaker ran 2:01.55 in finishing 2nd!
Anavia Battle sped the 300 in 36.70!

Devon Allen sped the 110H in 13.11, beating Omar McLeod's 13.22!
Not bad for a possible Pro footballer!!
Isaac Updike took the 3000SC in 8:22.96!
In the field, Claudio Romero's Discus Throw measured 219-10, making him 5th A-T Collegiate!
He also gets the National Record of Chile!

As noted at the onset, HS'ers also are welcomed to Penn, the most prominent usually being Jamaica's HS's!
However, my records and lists are for US High Schools, not their international brethren!
So, with that in mind, here's a few of the better HS marks from this year's Penn Relays!

Jenna Mulhern ran her 5000 in 16:07.50!
This makes her 12th A-T HS!
Ferenc Kovacs (Don't think he's related to SP'er Joe!!) ran his 5000 in 14:08.24!
This makes him 17th A-T HS!
Gary Martin and Juliette Whittaker took the HS Miles!
Martin ran 4:01.04, while Whittaker's time was 4:41.18!
Angelina Perez's 3000 took her 9:18.11, making her 17th A-T HS!

Finally (from Penn), we have Benjamin Shue!
His Discus Throw of 193-0 is the Frosh Class Record!!

Drake's meet had bad weather, though not majorly bad, just enough to lessen the quality of the marks, but not enough to dampen the enjoyment of the crowd!

Delilah Muhammed led the way with a time of 53.88 over the 400H!
It was a Meet Record!
Also getting an MR was North Carolina A&T Men's 4 X 100 Relay team!
Their time was 38.84!

Randolph Ross got the 400 win, running 44.95!
The 400H winner was Alison Dos Santos's 48.41!
Dan Michalski won the 3000SC in 8:28.93!
Vashti Cunningham HJ'ed 6-2.75!

The Relays (in a Relays meet) were good!
The 4 X 1600's went to Iowa State's Men in 16:23.05, and to Oklahoma State's Women, time of 19:03.37!
Iowa State's Men also took the 4 X 800, time of 7:17.47, while the Women's race went to the 8:25.25 of Kentucky!
Oklahoma State's Women also won their DMR, time of 11:04.65!

Finally, Ryan Crouser is in heavy training, so with the bad throwing weather, his winning SP mark was "only" 70-11.75!

Next post will be VERY soon, and will have an amazing time to report!
Also included will be stuff from the LSU Invitational and the Payton Jordan meet, along with assorted other goodies!

See you soon!
