A Track & Field Record Book Trivia Tour

While we wait for this still-dormant 2014 indoor season to get to its record-breaking levels (It will!!  Soon!), here's some facts & trivia from my T&F Record Book.
All are about INDOOR track and field!

Mo Farah holds 2 British records.
2 Mile          8:08.07     2012
5000           13:10.60    2011
Farah's NOP teammate, Galen Rupp, holds 1 USA mark.
3000            7:30.16     2013
That may change this year!

Speaking of NOP members, did you know Mary Cain finished faster than Tirunesh Dibaba in that Boston 2 mile last year?
Last 200's:
Cain          31.15
Dibaba      31.68
But Dibaba's last 400 was faster, 64.59 to Cain's 65.91.

Laban Rotich holds more individual year age records in the 1500 than Bernard Lagat.
Rotich     31 (3:36.76), 34 (3:38.34), 36 (3:39.28), 38 (3:39.78)
Lagat      30 (3:33.34), 33 (3:35.23), 37 )3:36.20)
He also totally cleans Lagat's clock in the mile...by a 4 to 1 margin!

Brad Hudson is a respected coach in California.
He's also the 5th fastest HS 5K indoor runner in history, with a 14:29.28 in 1984.

In the great Ethiopian (& World!!) "War Between the D's", Defar clearly wins.
She owns 3 national indoor records.
Dibaba has none!

After Lisa Bernhagen's HSR of 6-3 in the HJ, only 13 others have hit 6-0!
And just 2 of those 14 came in the 21st century!
The oldest, Joni Huntley's 6-0.50 in 1974, is now 40 years old!

Brianna Jackucewitz ran her 16:43.02 5K PR (Then a HSR!!) in 2004.
She was a 7th grader!
She never bettered that mark.
It still ranks 7th on the A-T indoor HS list!

Heike Drechsler owns 10 individual year age records in the LJ.
17 (21-8.75), 19 (22-11.25), 21 (23-11), 23 (24-2.25), 29 (23-7.25), 30 (23-3.25),
34 (22-2.25), 35 (22-6.25), 36 (22-1.75), 37 (20-5.25)
She turned 49 on December 16th!

Brittany Riley, the WT leader, was just 20 when she hit her 83-10.25 WR!
But Amber Campbell dominates the individual year age records!
She has 7.
Riley has 3.

Bianca Knight holds both the indoor HS and Collegiate records in the 200.
Her HSR 22.97 came in 2007, as a HS senior.
Her CR 22.40 was in 2008, as a freshman.

Francena McCorory is the only other woman to hold both marks, her's coming in the 400.
Her HSR 51.93 was in 2006, her senior year.
Her CR of 50.54 from 2010 also came in her senior year...in college!

There are no men who hold both!

Well, hope you enjoyed this little track (and field) trivia tour.

Next post HOPEFULLY will contain some astounding 2014 records!!
