Van Damme & Weltklasse (& More)

Let's call it as I see it--the pair of titled meets SHOULD return to their status of Invitationals, and leave their DL status behind!
Alas, that ain't happening, so let's see what they produced DESPITE their designation as DL's!
(Hint--it's a LOT!!)

Mondo Duplantis continued his quest to break his own World Record in the Pole Vault, but missed!
He did get the Brussels Meet Record with his clearance of 19-10.50!
He left Chris Nilsen and KC Lightfoot back at 19-2.25, with Nilsen getting 2nd!
But it's KC who is now 13th A-T US, tied with 4 others!

Michael Cherry knocked his 400 PR down to a blazing 44.03, and got the MR!
This makes him 13th A-T US, and 23rd A-T World!
Kirani James ran 44.51 for 2nd!

Sifan Hassan nabbed the Meet Record in the Mile with her 4:14.74!
(She passed 1500 enroute in 3:56.69!)
Axumawit Embaye was well back, timed in 4:21.08 (1500 in 4:02.99).
Linden Hall got Australia's National Record in 3rd with 4:21.38!
Marta Perez was 4th in 4:21.58.
A couple of Americans came next--Elise Cranny's 4:21.90 makes her 9th A-T US, while Josette Norris's 4:22.71 makes her 10th A-T US!!
Esther Guerro ran 4:22.81 in 7th!

In the 5000, the 14:25.63 of Ejguyahu Taye took the W.
Veteran Helen Obiri was 2nd in 14:26.23!
Margaret Kipkemboi was next in 14:27.12.
This makes her 20th A-T World!
Lillian Regeruk edged Eva Cherono for 4th, 14:30.32 to 14:30.77!
Back in 9th, the US's Alicia Monson ran a PR of 14:42.56, making her 4th A-T US!!

The Women's HJ was solid!
Yaroslava Mahuchukh took the Victory with 6-7.50!
Mariya Lasitskene and Nicole McDermott both got over 6-6.75, with the Russian taking 2nd!

Fred Kerley took the 100 in 9.94.
Ferguson Rotich won the 800 in 1:43.81.
Stew McSweyn won the 1500 in 3:33.20!
Dan Stahl whirled the Discus out 227-4!
The Women's 200 saw Shericka Jackson push Dina Asher-Smith aside, 21.95 to 22.04!

Natoya Goule defeated the youngster Keely Hodgkinson in the 800, 1:58.09 to 1:58.18!
In 3rd came Jemma Reekie's 1:58.77!
Nadine Visser nipped Tobi Amusan in the 100H, with both timed in 12.69!
And Yaime Perez took the DT with her 218-1.

Before we move to Zurich, let's see what ELSE happened in other venues around this time!

In Roveretto, Michael Cherry eased a 400 in 44.55.
Marvin Bracy won the 100 in 9.98!

Elzan Bibic took the 3000 in a Serbia National Record of 7:39.45!
In the Women's 3K, Dani Jones took 4th in 8:41.01.
This makes her 19th A-T US!
And Catalin Tecucescu's 800 of 1:45.19 is the National Record of Romania!!

In Karlsruhe, Tina Sutej PV'ed 15-5.50 to defeat Iryna Zhuk's 15-3.50!
The meet in Chorzow was productive (or useful, as the British put it!).
Soufiane El Bakkali ran the 3000 in 7:37.18!
Added to his 3000SC time of 7:58.15, this adds to the Combined Events total of 15:35.33!
I believe this makes him 7th A-T World!

Ryan Crouser took the SP with his 73-5.50!
Joe Kovacs threw 72-2.25 in 2nd, while Tom Walsh's 71-1.50 took 3rd.

Hirut Meshesha was 2nd in 2:35.74!
In 3rd was Dani Jones, whose 2:36.63 makes her 11th A-T US!

A meet in Italy saw some good marks!
Michael Norman ran 9.97 to win the 100.
Josh Awotunde's 72-2.25 beat the 70-11.75 of Zane Weir!!
The latter is Italian, despite the name!

Anzhelika Sidorova won the PV with a 15-5 clearance!
Shaneika Ricketts won the TJ with 48-4.50!
Daniel Stahl won another DT, measuring 226-8!

So much was great in Zurich that I don't know where to begin!

It wasn't the greatest meet ever, but it was solid!!
So I'll report the results in the order I took the notes!

Fred Kerley took the 100 in 9.87!
Andre De Grase made him sweat, turning in a time of 9.89!
Ronnis Baker ran 9.91, while in 4th, Trayvon Bromell ended in 9.96!

De Grasse made someone else sweat in the 200, him being Kenny Bednarek!
Bednarek won in 19.70, with the Canadian close in 19.72!
Fred Kerley was 3rd in 19.83!

(As an aside, for you older folks, does seeing times run by some Men in the 200--like the ones above--make you see those numbers as YEARS??  I do!  Thus, seeing these times reminds me of 1970, 1972, and 1983!!  LOL)

Michael Cherry is winning a lot of races!
He won here also, his 44.41 nipping the 44.42 of Kirani James!
Emmanuel Korir won the 800 in 1:44.56!
Tim Cheruiyot beat The Kid (Jacob Ingebrigtsen) in the 1500, 3:31.37 to 3:31.40!
The 3000SC was slow, but it's worth noting that Ben Kigen beat Soufiane El Bakkali--times were 8:17.45 and 8:17.70!

I won't be reporting the results of the 5000 because it was run on a 560 meter banked track!!
WTF??!!

Devon Allen and Ron Levy got the same time of 13.06 in the 110H, with Allen given the W.
Karsten Warholm tempo'ed to a 400H time of 47.35!

Gianmarco Tamberi won the HJ with 7-8!
And Mondo did it again!
His PV of 19-10.50 got him the Weltklasse Meet Record!
Sam Kendricks was 2nd, with Timur Morgunov 3rd, both clearing 19-5.50!
Pedro Pablo Pichardo took the TJ with 58-1.

Familiar names took the SP, Discus, and Javelin!
Ryan Crouser's 74-4.50 is the Weltklasse MR!

At 6-8 came Yaroslava Mahuchukh!
Australia's Nicole McDermott took 3rd with a good 6-7!

Anzhelike Sidorova went ABOVE (pun intended!) and beyond with her winning PV clearance of 16-5.25!!
Enroute, she cleared 16-1.25 and 16-3.25!!
This makes her 2nd A-T World!
She also gets the Age 30 Record!!
Ekaterina Stefanidi was far back, yet cleared 15-7.75 in 2nd!!

Ivana Spanovic Long Jumped 22-10!
Maggie Ewen won the SP with 63-8.50!
