INdoors 2020 Suddenly Ends with AOY Selections

Just like that, the amazing entity known as the 2020 INdoor Track & Field season--vanished!
Even knowing the reason--CoronaVirus19--doesn't lessen the disappointment, the hurt, the dreams for what might have been!
And what poor timing!
Just before the two best non-Pro events of the season--the NCAA and NBIN Championship meets!
Look back at my "catch up" posts during the past month to see the potential--now gone!!

But let's stop whining!
Instead, let this blog do what it always does at ends of seasons--no matter the reasons (and I rhymed!!  LOL)--report the last known results, then choose my Athletes (etc) of the Year!
Unlike the OUTdoor AOY's, I do ALL of them at once for INdoors--meaning for my 4 core groups--HS, Collegiate, US, and the World!
So take off your mask (if you're inside your home!), get the old popcorn ready, and read on!

I'll begin with my INdoor results since my previous post!
My OUTdoor results will come after my Award Ceremony!

Lucky for us Marks Researchers, several of the Conferences were held on Oversize Tracks--meaning I can IGNORE EVERY track race longer than 60 meters!
It's shitty and unfair for EVERY runner who does those events, and I still don't understand WHY!!
If I were an athlete, I would boycott any meet held on an OT--even if it meant quitting the team!!
OK, enough!
Sorry.

The Big 10 saw Andrew Liskowitz throw the SP 68-11.75.
He's ranked 20th A-T Collegiate!
The Big 12 had a tie in the Men's Pole Vault, with both KC Lightfoot and Zach Bradford reaching 18-11 to co-hold the Meet Record!
Abby Steiner lit a fire on the track at SEC's with her 200 in 22.57!
She's now 15th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Corey McLeod LJ'ed 26-10.50, making him 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
And while Tonea Marshall won the 60H with her 7.89, it was 2nd placer Grace Stark who gets the Frosh Class Record with her time of 7.91!
She's 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Anzhelika Sidorova ended her spectacular INdoor season with her best mark--16-2.75 in Russia!
She broke her own Age 28 Record, and ranks 3rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Lijao Gong got a SP World Leader of 64-7.50!

HS'ers had a few good marks--
A 600 race saw Radeem Hayals run 1:18.48 to rank 6th A-T HS!
Second went to Josh Peron's 1:19.97, ranking him 21st A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Madison Whyte sprinted a 300 in 37.81, good for 11th A-T HS!
Finally, Karrie Baloga ran a Frosh Class Record time of 9:34.52 in the 3000 meters!!

World Athlete of the Year-MEN
Who else but two time World Record breaker MONDO DUPLANTIS!
Absolutely NO contest!!
Honorable Mentions go to Christian Coleman, Donovan Brazier, Grant Holloway, Sam Kendricks, and Ryan Crouser!

US Athlete of the Year-MEN
DONOVAN BRAZIER gets this for his AR 800, and a fast 600!
Honorable Mentions go to Coleman, Holloway, Kendricks, Crouser, plus Ronnie Baker, Shadrack Kipchirchir, Chris Nilsen, and Daniel Haugh!

Collegiate Athlete  of the Year-MEN
CHRIS NILSEN cleared the bar here--heh heh!
Honorable Mentions to James West, Tyler Day, KC Lightfoot, and the UO Distance Medley Relay team!

High School Athlete of the Year-MEN
The sole HSR breaker of the year--and my AOY--is NICO YOUNG!
Honorable Mentions go to Trey Knight and, um, uh, Trey Knight!
(Not having the NBIN limited my selections!!)

World Athlete of the Year-WOMEN
The sole World Record, so I must agree with T&FN--my Award goes to YULIMAR ROJAS!!
But she had some great competition!
Honorable Mentions go to Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Anzhelika Sidorova, Mariya Lasitskene, and Karissa Schweizer!

United States Athlete of the Year-WOMEN
Here I DISagree with T&FN!!
They chose Ajee Wilson, but I saw her AR in the 800 as being less than her UNratified AR of 1:58.24, erased because of her tainted beef ban!
KARISSA SCHWEIZER not only smashed a solid Record by a venerable athlete, but she beat a far better kicker than I thought Schweizer to be!
Honorable Mentions to Wilson, but also to Elle Purrier, Shelby Houlihan, Kate Grace, Vanessa Fraser, Tori Franklin, Sandi Morris, Jenn Suhr, and DeAnna Price!!

Collegiate Athlete of the Year-WOMEN
OLIVIA GRUVER got a pair of PR's, and just had a solid season, however shortened!
Honorable Mentions to Tonea Marshall, Jasmine Moore, and Mia Akins!

High School Athlete of the Year-WOMEN
I give this one to a Walker (and Runner, but for her Walking!!)--TAYLOR EWERT!
She's a Woman of many talents, but when she "merely" WALKS, she's "merely" astounding!
She CRUSHED her own 3000 Walk HSR by 24 seconds!!
You know the old song--"You'll Never Walk Alone"?
Well, she always DOES--far out front!!
Honorable Mentions go to--again, just one person--and like the Men's list of HM's, mine goes to a Weight Thrower--Monique Hardy!!

World Performance of the Year-MEN
BOTH of Mondo's WR's qualify--his 20-2.75 and his 20-3.25!
BOTH win!
United States Performance of the Year-MEN
Donovan Brazier's 1:44.22 in the 800!
Collegiate Performance of the Year-MEN
Chris Nilsen had a solid season, topped by his Collegiate Record 19-5.50!
High School Performance of the Year-MEN
Nico Young's 3000 time of 7:56.97!

World Performance of the Year-WOMEN
Yulimar Rojas beating her previous best by about 16 inches, and becoming just the 2nd Woman 50 footer INdoors--and Number Uno!--with her TJ of 50-7.50!
United States Performance of the Year-WOMEN
Oh boy, there were so many!!
But I had to honor Karissa Schweizer's amazing AR in the 3000, for the time of 8:25.70, but also for who she outkicked--Shelby Houlihan!
I could have gone with Elle Purrier's 4:16.85 Mile, Ajee Wilson's 800 AR, Tori Franklin's TJ 48 footer, or even Houlihan!!
Collegiate Performance of the Year-WOMEN
Olivia Gruver's 15-5 in the PV!
High School Performance of the Year-WOMEN
Taylor Ewert's 13:00.56 in the 3000 meter Walk!

My Personality of the Year Awards were harder to pick--at least in 1 or 2 spots!
But everyone's more courageous this year--so Damn the Torpedoes!!
NOTE--I could not choose Collegiate or HS Personalities, as their seasons ended before their most important meets!

World Personality of the Year-MEN
Easy one here--it's MONDO!!
United States Personality of the Year-MEN
I give it to RYAN CROUSER--for his great marks, but also for his always enthusiastic friendly demeanor--and those HATS he wears!!

World Personality of the Year-WOMEN
This one was tough!
But YULIMAR ROJAS has always appeared confident and even brazen when I've seen her on TV.
United States Personality of the Year
Like I've always said, this Award doesn't always go to the best athlete!
And JENN SUHR was NOT the best PV'er in 2020--even in the United States!
BUT--she broke the Age 37 AND Age 38 Records this past INdoor season--and I've always liked HER personality, soooo...!!

World Records-MEN
Mondo Duplantis's 20-2.75 and 20-3.25 PV's
American Records-MEN
Donovan Brazier's 1:44.22 in the 800.
Collegiate Records-MEN
James West's 3:36.93--Chris Nilsen's 19-5.50--University of Oregon's DMR of 9:24.52
High School Records
Nico Young's 7:56.97

World Records-WOMEN
Yulimar Rojas's 50-7.50
American Records-WOMEN
Ajee Wilson's 1:58.29--Karissa Schweizer's 8:25.70--Elle Purrier's 4:16.85--Tori Franklin's 48-0.50
Collegiate Records-WOMEN
They struck out this season--probably mainly because there was no NCAA Championship meet!!
High School Records-WOMEN
Tamari Davis's 7.19 (She TIED the mark!!)--Taylor Ewert's 13:00.56 in the 3000 Race Walk

Thanks for sticking around!
I have a few OUTdoor results, as noted above!

In New Zealand, Eleanor Patterson HJ'ed 6-6.25 for her National Record!
Tom Walsh threw the SP 71-2.50 there!

Finally, the Tokyo Marathon was good.
The Men's race went to Berhanu Legesse in 2:04:15.
Bashir Abdi was 2nd in  a Belgium National Record time of 2:04:49!
In 4th, Suguru Osiko got Japan's NR with his time of 2:05:29!

In the Women's race, Israel's Lornah Salpeter ran a National Record time of 2:17:45!!
This makes her 6th A-T World!!
Birhane Dibaba was 2nd in 2:18:35.
She is 13th A-T World!

Next post will be either my first results post of the 2020 OUTdoor season--however truncated it's been!
OR--a commentary on the State of the Sport amidst the CoVid Pandemic!!
Or both!

See you soon--and I do mean SEE you!!
(So nice to be cataract free!! LOL)
