With the whole horror movie of Covid-19 not even producing a "trailer" yet, the 2019-2020 INdoor T&F season kicked off with a fantastic array of marks in many events.
In this "memory lane" look back at all my blog missed while out with fuzzy eyesight, please note that all Records and Marks and Places on Lists are AS OF this particular post--NOT as of today, October 1st!!
That way, it will be more exciting to read--at least it is for me discovering these Marks while revising my Record Book!
Onward!
As has been common in recent years, a deep 5000 in Boston opened things up!
The Men's race saw Edwin Kurgat run 13:24.04, becoming 10th A-T Collegiate!
Way back came Matt Farrell, whose 14:28.63 ranks 6th A-T HS!!
But it was the Women's race--as usual!!--that saw a REALLY deep field!
While T&FN's eTN didn't mention it, Taylor Werner's winning time of 15:11.19 makes her 8th A-T US!!
Katie Izzo has burst onto the scene only recently, but her 15:13.09 in 2nd makes her 11th A-T US, and 2nd A-T Collegiate!
Weini Kelati's 15:14.71 ranks her 4th A-T Collegiate!
Whittni Orton's 15:22.98 makes her 18th A-T US, and 12th A-T Collegiate!
Bethany Hasz's 15:25.33 makes her 14th A-T Collegiate!
And Carmela Baez's 15:25.41 makes her 15th A-T Collegiate!!
WOW!!
I'm trying to do these in chronological order, but sometimes an EVENT is so dominant that you have to single it out!
Thus, my full report on all the times over 300 meters I've gathered!
(BTW, my research for this post ended around January 20th, or just BEFORE the "big" meets began!!)
Stephanie Davis began the string with 37.10, which makes her 10th A-T Collegiate!
Kasaun James sprinted 32.85, making him 7th A-T Collegiate, and 22nd A-T US!!
Daneisha Anderson ran a 300 in 37.17, making her 13th A-T Collegiate.
In 2nd came Taylor Manson, whose 37.38 makes her 17th A-T Collegiate!
Tamara Clark's 36.56 misses the World list by just 0.02 seconds!!
But she is 14th A-T US, tied with 1 other, and 3rd A-T Collegiate!!
Jacory Patterson set a new Collegiate Record with his time of 32.28!!
He is 11th A-T World, and 6th A-T US!!
This was at the Virginia Tech Invitational!
Caitlin Tate's 37.15 is 13th A-T Collegiate!
The Virginia Showcase meet produced lots of great 300 marks!
Cameron Rose's 32.84 becomes 2nd A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
He beat Justin Robinson's 32.87, which makes him 4th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Beating Robinson is a HUGE get, as Justin is a major 400 stud!!
BTW, Robinson also ran a 500 in 1:02.39 at this meet, making him 5th A-T HS, according to my eTN.
On the Women's side, we have Athing Mu (Still fascinated that her last name is pronounced as "MO", not as in "moo"!! LOL), whose 37.36 ranks her 3rd A-T HS!
She edged Kayla Davis, whose 37.38 gets her the Soph Class Record!
The old Record was by Sydney McLaughlin!!
This makes her 4th A-T HS!
Tabitha Diggs ran 37.99, making her 15th A-T HS!
Jonah Ross's 38.02 ranks her 17th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Shawnti Jackson also ran 38.02, thus tying her for place with Ross!
Finally (!!), we have Kimberly Harris's 38.04, which makes her 19th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Another WOW!
The Pole Vault also saw a lot of action early INdoor season!
Let's begin with the Queen of US Vaulting, Jenn Suhr!
Her initial PV of INdoors is always great, and this year was no exception!
Her 15-5.50 gives her the Age 37 Record, taking over from one Stacy Dragila!!
KC Lightfoot went over 18-8.25, making him 17th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
USAF's Kyle Pater (Who is HE???) reached 19-1, making him suddenly 17th A-T US!!
The Pole Vault Summit in Reno was pretty good, as always.
Jacob Wooten's 19-0.25 beat the same mark by Matt Ludwig!
Chris Nilsen was 3rd with 18-8.25.
The Women's W went to Lisa Gunnarsson, whose 14-9 beat the same mark by Lexi Jacobus!
Seattle's 307 meter Oversize track was not necessary to help Olivia Gruver over the bar set at 15-3.50!
She was one-fourth inch off her PR!!
Let's temporarily leave the INdoor scene, and turn to some OUTdoor stuff of note!
On December 14th--in Australia--Stew McSweyn broke the Australia National Record in the 10000!!
His time was 27:23.80!
While it wasn't Clarke's Record he broke, keep in mind that the Legendary Ron Clarke's WR of 27:39.4 came 54-plus years before McSweyn ran only 16 seconds faster!!
He's in VERY classy company!!
Back in Valencia Again (Should be a song title!! LOL), we have yet ANOTHER World Record in the Road 10k!!
(Wasn't it just broken a few weeks earlier?? See an earlier post!)
Rhonex Kipruto took the Record away from Josh Cheptegei with a time of 26:24!!
The Women's race was fast also, with three Women going sub-30!
Sheila Chepkirui won it with her 29:46, making her 2nd A-T World, according to my eTN.
Rosemary Wangiru took Silver with her 29:50, edging Norah Jeruto by 1 second!
At the USATF Cross Country meet in San Diego in January, Anthony Rotich took the Men's race in 30:36.
Second went to Emmanuel Bor's 30:58.
Third was Lawi Lalang's 31:06.
The Women's race went to Natosha Rogers, time of 35:45.
Paige Stoner came 2nd in 36:07.
Third went to Carrie Verdon's 36:24.
Lots more to report!
How about a new HSR for Taylor Ewert??
Her 13:00.56 broke her own INdoor 3000 Walk Record by about 24 seconds!!
(Not forgetting how great her XC RUNNING season was!!)
Here's the remainder of what I have--in the order I made note of them--
Janeah Stewart gets better and better in the Weight Throw!
Her latest PR went 82-3.50, giving her the Age 23 Record!
It also makes her 3rd A-T World and US!!
Abraham Alvarado ran a 1000 in 2:18.01, making him 5th A-T US!
Cheyenne Figueroa threw the WT out 62-8.50, making her 7th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
That was in late December!
Katelyn Tuohy opened her season with a 1000 in 2:49.47.
A good "rust buster", but nothing special.
Brianna Williams sprinted a 60 in 7.25, making her 5th A-T HS, tied with 2 others.
Brynn Brown ran a full Two Mile race in a quick 10:08.11.
This makes her 14th A-T HS!
(As my loyal readers know, I do NOT honor times over 1600 and 3200 meters, or times converted from them! Times on my lists are for the FULL Mile or Two Mile distance!!)
Amina Smith High Jumped 6-3.50, making her 21st A-T US, tied with a mere FIVE others!
Darryl Sullivan HJ'ed 7-7.25, making him 4th A-T Collegiate, tied with SIX others (!!), and 12th A-T US, tied with 5 others!!
Tamari Davis TIED the HSR in the 60 meters with her 7.19!!
This is the Junior Class Record, and the Age 17 Record--which in T&FN & others-speak means it's also the "World Youth Record"--a designation I pay NO attention to!!
The race was in South Carolina!
DeAnna Price took her Hammer Throw skills to the INdoor WT, and sent it flying 81-1, making her 6th A-T US and World!!
Wayne Lawrence's 1:16.55 beat Roshon Roomes's 1:16.56 over 600 meters.
Lawrence is now 15th A-T Collegiate, while Roomes is 16th A-T Collegiate!
Rachel Fatherly (Ever wonder how she'd do if her name was MOTHERly?? Just saying! LOL) threw the Shot Put 60-6, making her 19th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Another bit of Record Book trivia--
Fatherly's mark removed the final sub-60 mark from my DDD!!
You now have to produce a mark 0f 60-0.25 just to tie for 24th place on my US INdoor list!!
Talented since early in HS, Tonea Marshall sent her 60H PR into the stratosphere with her time of 7.86!
This makes her 3rd A-T Collegiate, and 22nd A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Athing Mu got the HSR in the 500 meters (Don't have this event in my Record Book, but always report fast times!) with her 1:10.22!
BTW, I did the math, and this mark--if extended to 600 meters at the same pace--sees her 600 time as about 1:24.6.
Note that her HSR for 600--also 2nd A-T WORLD!!--is 1:23.57!
Anyway, she also gets the Senior Class Record!
Finally (!!), ending this LARGE report, we go to Morgan SMALLs (Ha Ha!).
No small (Heh!) feat, she Triple Jumped 42-10, making her 8th A-T HS!
She also HJ'ed 6-0 in the same meet!
Can't wait to discover what happened next in this already explosive INdoor season just past!!
Back soon!
