Vaulters Soar Early.....and the Outdoor Q's

We're outside!
From this time on, my blog will be all about the great OUTDOORS!!

Just as I did during the INdoor season, my posts for the next several months will deal solely with OUTdoor track and field.
Oh, there will be some marathons and other road races reported on, and we'll get the rare INdoor Pole Vault or Shot Put when the weather's bad, or just to entertain Mall shoppers.

But the other 99.99% of the time, all the records and marks and athlete's places on my various DDD's will be from OUTDOOR meets.

That's one thing you can depend on!
I don't mix or combine indoor marks with outdoor marks.
They are kept totally separate!!

(T&FN has what they call a "comprehensive" yearly list on their website.  This means that AFTER the INdoor season ENDS, they still put an athlete's INdoor marks on their lists....if it was better than what that athlete has produced OUTdoors thus far!!  To my mind, that just confuses people!  So once INdoor ends, I store my INdoor part of my book in my file cabinet!!  What you get is 100% OUTdoor.......except for those anomalies listed above!)

So, before tomorrow's 1st day of the Texas Relays....which SHOULD produce all kinds of great marks.....here's a few marks from the first days of the 2014 OUTdoor season!

As with indoors, the outdoor season has begun with the PV the highlight.

Desiree Freier, the new HSR holder Indoors, has soared 14-0 outdoors, moving her into 3rd on the outdoor A-T HS list!!
I have a feeling she'll soon hold BOTH HSR's!!

But she better watch out for Lexi Weeks.
This young lady is already at 13-10!!
That mark places her 8th A-T HS.

At the Collegiate level, Duke's Megan Clark has PR'ed again, this time to 14-7.25!!
That makes her 8th A-T Collegiate, although tied with 5 others!
And she's just a Sophomore!!

He hasn't quite reached my OUTdoor DDD just yet, but INdoor HSR holder Devin King has gone over 17-5 already, just ONE INCH shy of making my Top 24 Performers list!!
Think this dude will make it??
LOL

The only other early early EARLY season marks come from the SP and HT.

Stamatia Scarvelis got an outdoor PR with her 52-4.50.
This makes her 13th A-T HS.

In the HT, USC Senior Remy Conaster has tossed the ball and chain 238-8 for 23rd A-T Collegiate!

How good was the 2013 Outdoor season?
Well, compared to the 2014 INdoor season, not so great!!
Remember that 395 marks from 2014 are now embedded on my various DDD's from Indoors.
But 2013 OUTdoors??
There were just 293 marks that date from 2013 on my Top 24's!!
Here's the breakdown:

World          A measly 18 Women's marks made it last year, compared to an also-paltry 33 Men's marks!!
US              Here, the Women ruled, by a score of 47 to 32.
Collegiate    And here, the Women REALLY dominated!  They won, 66 marks to 30 for the Men!
HS              The Girls (Women?) almost tripled the Boys (Men?) score, 49 to just 18!!

Overall, the Women put 180 marks on my 4 Outdoor DDD's in 2013.
The Men?  Just 113.

Will....or CAN....they do better in 2014?
And I'm talking about both Men AND Women!!

But what exactly does it take for an athlete to get on one of my DDD's??
I mean, MINIMUM standards!!
You know, just to make it into 24th place!!
Well, here are the marks needed to get you (or your favorite athlete) onto these lists.
Following are the 24th best marks in the 4 categories.
I'll list them by event, and the categories will go---left to right---as follows: World, US, Collegiate, HS.
If I don't have a list for an event or category, I will indicate that by "*****".
