Mondo Conquers---DL "Season" Ends

 NOTE--
To remind my readers, this blog "retired" for about 11 months due to cataracts--removed September 16!
Since late September, I've had the goal of covering all this blog had missed--without reporting "today's" results.
When you describe a movie, you don't tell the ending--you avoid "spoilers".
Thus, I've been reporting--chronologically!--all the results (beginning with Doha '19's WC's) this blog normally covers!
This post brings us back to Doha--for the final Diamond League meet of the WEIRD 2020 season!
And so much more!
I promise you this blog will reach "TODAY" soon!

MONDO (Duplantis)--yes, his name deserves an all caps intro!
As did SERGEY BUBKA in his day--back when HE held both the INdoor and OUTdoor WR's in the Pole Vault!
Then came Renaud Lavillenie's INdoor WR of 20-2.50--leaving Bubka as the OUTdoor WR holder!
And along came Mondo--taking down Lavillenie's INdoor WR--and now Bubka's OUTdoor WR!
He has definitely CONQUERED the World of the Pole Vault!!

He topped Bubka's 20-1.75 by a quarter inch, his 20-2 coming in the Golden Gala DL in Rome!
He broke his own Age 20 Record, his own Swedish National Record, as well as the Rome Meet Record!!

A real shocker came in another field event--the Javelin Throw!
In a meet in Poland, Germany's Johanne Vetter came THIS close to the iconic WR of Jan Zelezny!
OK, so it was over two feet shy, but it's the closest anyone in  history has come to Zelezny's mark!
His 320-9 (97.76 in metric!) gives Vetter the Age 27 Record, and breaks his own NR of Germany!
As noted, he ranks 2nd A-T World!
He had another spear chuck in the series reaching 311-2--which was a PR for him--then!
All his other marks were under 300 feet!

In that same meet, Ryan Crouser had a SP of 74-5.25--one of several great marks he's had in 2020!
Michel Haratyk was 2nd with 71-5.50!
Crouser got the Ostrava Meet Record with a toss of 73-7.25!
Another MR--Zagreb's--fell to the former Duck--mark being 74-7.25!
In Serbia, he threw 74-1.50!
Impressed??

Other good field event marks--
Christian Taylor and Hughes Zango tangled in Ostrava in the TJ--Taylor prevailing 57-3.50 to 57-2!
Taylor improved in the ISTAF meet with 57-7.75!
Yulimar Rojas got a TJ World Leader with her 48-3.25!

Harry Coppell tied the NR of Great Britain with his PV of 19-2.25!
Duplantis cleared 19-4.75 in the ISTAF meet!
Ho hum.
Mondo beat Sam Kendricks and Lavillenie in the Doha DL--all clearing 19-1--and all tying the Meet Record!

Leonardo Fabbri's SP of 72-1.75 fell short of my World DDD by less than 5 inches!
In Germany, Malaika Mihambo LJ'ed 23-0.75 for a World Leader!
Rudy Winkler added an inch to his Hammer Throw PR with a 264-10.
He remains 3rd A-T US!
In Japan, Yuki Hashioka LJ'ed 27-2.50, also a World Leader!

Dan Stahl got the Zagreb MR with his DT of 225-11.
In China, Jianan Wang topped Hashioka's WL with his LJ of 27-3.25.
Finishing 2nd was Changzhou  Huang, mark of 27-2.
Also in China, Shiying Liu's Javelin Throw traveled 220-9, making her 19th A-T World, tied with 2 others!

The Rome and Doha DL's produced fast (and deep!) 3000 meter races!
Rome gave us the Men's race, with Jacob Kiplimo leading the way with a speedy 7:26.64!
This is the Rome MR, and the National Record of Uganda!
It makes him 8th A-T World!
Jakob Ingebrigtsen continued his slough of fast times with a 2nd place mark of 7:27.05.
It's Norway's NR, and makes him 9th A-T World!

Stewart McSweyn got another NR of Australia with his 3rd place mark of 7:28.02.
He is 17th A-T World!
Yemana Crippa's 7:38.27 in 4th gave him Italy's NR!

In Doha, the Women's 3K went to Helen Obiri's 8:22.54!
She gets the Age 30 Record!
Agnes Tirop came 2nd with her time of 8:22.92!
She's 14th A-T World, tied with one other!
That "other" finished 3rd here--also in 8:22.92!!
Her name is Beatrice Chepkoech, and she's perhaps better known as the WR holder in the 3000SC!!
In fact, she improves her lead in the World Combined Events of the 3000 and 3000SC!
Her 8:22.92 and 8:44.32 adds to 17:07.24!
She's FAR out in front on this Combined Events list!!

But there's more!
Margaret Kipkemboi ended 4th with her 8:24.76!
She's 21st A-T World!
Hyvin Jepkemoi's 8:25.13 makes her 22nd A-T World!
Gudef Tsegay's 8:25.23 makes her 23rd A-T World!
And she also gets the best 6th Place mark!
Laura Weightman's 8:26.31 gives her the best 7th Place mark!!
And back in 10th was Australia's Jessica Hull, her 8:36.03 making her Australia's Standard Bearer!!

Cut OFF the World list were a few icons of the sport--
Genzebe Dibaba
Zahri Ouaziz
Mary Slaney!!
Slaney was the only American on my World DDD list!
But no more!!
(Who will take her place??)

Other Distance marks of note--
Laura Muir won a race in Poland--her 3:58.24 taking the 1500 over Sofia Ennaoui's PR of 3:59.70!
Ostrava gave an 800 PR to Jake Wightman--time of 1:44.18!
Also in Ostrava, Jacob Kiplimo got the 5000 Meet Record with his 12:48.63!
Selemon Barega took 2nd with his 12:49.08!
In 3rd was Italy's Yemena Crippa--his 13:02.26 being his Nation's NR!!

Faith Kipyegon continued her fine season with the Ostrava MR in the 1500--time of 3:59.05!
Sifan Hassan ran the 5000 in 14:37.85.
In Italy, Matthew Ramsden got 2020's fastest Mile, time of 3:51.23.
Kellyn Taylor ran the 10000 in a PR of 31:07.40.
BUT--it may not count as legal!
It was a mixed race time trial, I believe!
For the nonce, this blog will accept it!
It makes her 7th A-T US!
Stephanie Bruce also PR'ed with 31:34.87, making her 21st A-T US!

The Prague Half Marathon gave us the Women Only WR!!
Peres Jepchirchir ran 65:34!
This makes her 6th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
The Men's race went to Kandie Kibiwott's 58:38!
He's now 5th A-T World!

ISTAF's Meet Record in the Women's 1500 went to Laura Muir's 3:57.40!
Laura Weightman PR'ed with her 4:00.09!
(Sooooo close to the 3's!!)
Jessica Hull has strengthened her claim to Australia's best ever distance runner with her 4:00.42 National Record in 3rd!
In 5th was Shannon Rowbury, with yet another fast time in 2020--this one being 4:02.56!

Hyvin Jepkemoi got 2020's World Leading 3000SC with her 9:06.14!
In Italy, Hedda Hynne got Norway's NR with her 800 in  1:59.15!
But then in Switzerland, Hynne chopped more than a second off that time, her 1:58.10 breaking her own NR!
Selina Buchel took 2nd with a good 1:58.37!

Doha's DL gave Stew McSweyn Australia's NR in the 1500--time of 3:30.51!
Selemon Barego improved to 3:32.97 in 2nd!
This time, plus his 12:43.02 in the 5000, adds to 16:15.99 on my Combined Events list!
He's 4th A-T World there!
Steepler Soufiane El Bakkali PR'ed in 3rd with 3:33.45!
Faith Kipyegon PR'ed in the 800 with 1:57.68.
Add that to her Mile time of 4:16.71, and you have a total time of 6:14.39.
She ranks 8th A-T World on that C-E list!
Finally (in the distances!), we have a couple of speedy 10K's.
Nicholas Kimeli ran 26:58.97 in the Netherlands.
And Richard Yator timed 27:01.42 in Japan!

We're left with the Speedsters!
Karsten Warholm ran the 400H in 47.08 at ISTAF!
It's the Meet Record!
The old mark was run by Edwin Moses--in 1980!!
He cut 0.01 off that time in Rome, his 47.07 getting the MR!

Elaine Thompson (aka ET) ran home (HaHa!) in 10.85 in Rome!
(Home and Rome rhyme--Gosh, I'm really sharp today!!  LOL)
She also had a 100 of 10.87 in Doha!
Aaron (sic!) Mallett PR'ed in the 110H with his 13.15!
Payton Chadwick ran the fastest American 100H of 2020--time of 12.78!!

WR's in Hour Run--and some DL News

 Yes, I said the One Hour Run--run on a track!
I ran a few of those back in the day (all at Humboldt State's old 440 yard track!).
They were fun!
You run in circles until the timer yells "STOP!".
Each runner would stand where he/she stopped until the distance was recorded!
Chuck Smead--former 2:13 marathoner--ran 12 miles 307 yards--passing 10 miles in 49:15.
That was the Club record!
My best was 9 miles 1150 yards!

Anyway, the ELITES destroyed both WR's--Mo Farah and Sifan Hassan!
Farah's distance (in yards) was 13 miles and 446 yards--translated to 21,330 meters!
He probably passed the Half Marathon distance in about 59:25!
Sifan Hassan's yards distance was 11 miles 1341 yards!
Or 18,930 meters!
Her estimated Half time might have been 67:00!
Rashir Abdi was 2nd behind Farah, but just 8 meters back!!
He was ahead at 20K, and his 56:20.02 is the WR for that distance on a track!!
Lonah Chemtai was 2nd Woman with 18,571 meters, with Eva Cherono ending with 18, 341 meters in 3rd!
Loved that Hour Run stuff!!

BTW, that was during the esteemed Brussels DL!!

MASTER of the Pole Vault UNIVERSE--aka Mondo Duplantis--kept on pushing his Swedish fanny over some high bars!!
First at 19-8.50--breaking his own Age 20 Record in Stockholm's DL!

Then he was in Lausanne--for s street exhibition PV.
And yes, I'm supposing his Vault of 19-11 counts!!
Thus, he got Lausanne's MR, again broke his own Age 20 Record, as well his own Sweden National Record!
He's 2nd A-T World OUTdoors!
But here he got a bit of a scare!!
Sam Kendricks finally got his 2020 act together (He'd been at the 19-0.25 level!), and got the best ever 2nd Place mark with his clearance at 19-9!!

Faith Kipyegon took another shot at the WR for 1000 meters, but again fell short--this time in 2:29.92--but over 6 seconds ahead of 2nd place!

Karsten Warholm continues on his torrid path as the latter day version of Edwin Moses!
He got a PR, time of 46.87--just 0.09 short of Kevin Young's World Record!!
He gets his own Norway NR, and his own Age 24 Record, and remains 2nd A-T World!
It's also the Stockholm DL Meet Record!

Ryan Crouser didn't PR with his SP of 74-6.50--but he might have gotten the best ever 6 throw series!!
(Anyone know?)
He threw 73-0.75, then 74-6.50, then 74-5.75, followed by a 74-3, another 74-3, and ended with a toss of 73-7.50!!
WOW!

In a different meet, Nick Ponzio threw the SP 70-10.50!

Hughes Zango beat Christian Taylor in a good Triple Jump--a World Leading 57-2.25 to 56-10.75!

In different meets, Yaroslava Mahuchukh and Yuliya Levchenko got co-World Leading High Jumps of 6-6.75!
In Germany, Australian Nicole McDermott cleared 6-6!

Johannes Vetter threw the Javelin 298-1!

Some good Middle Distance marks--
Stockholm's Men's 1500 saw Tim Cheruiyot defeat Jakob Ingebrigtsen 3:30.25 to 3:30.74!
Australia's Stew McSweyn took 3rd in a PR of 3:31.48!

Laura Muir took the World Lead with her 1500 win in 3:57.86.
Back in 6th came Vet Shannon Rowbuty in 4:03.04, her fastest in 4 years!!

Donovan Brazier got his fastest OUTdoor 600 with his 1:15.07!
Puerto Rican Wes Vazquez was 2nd in 1:15.31.
Cory McGee got a PR in the two lapper with 2:00.16.
In 3rd was Steepler Emma Coburn with a PR of 2:01.10!
Jemma Reekie also PR'ed--in another meet--in a World Leading 1:58.63!

High Schooler Sophia Gorriaran also PR'ed--at 2:02.90--making her 11th A-T HS!!

Some sprint news--
Nadine Visser ran 12.68 for 100H, but 2nd placer Luca Kozak's 12.71 became the new NR of Hungary!!
In Jamaica, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce sped the 100 in 10.86--the World Leader.

Finally, I want to give you ANOTHER Record that was NOT reported in my previous post---
Shannon Rowbury's 14:45.11 in the 5000 was the Age 35 Record!!

Monaco Record-Breaking Assault

 NOTE--For reasons I won't go into, there was a large space between blog posts!
But problem's been resolved, and I'm ready to continue my RE-counting of the late 2019 and all the 2020 T&F Records & Marks this blog is known to cover!
We pick up in late July, and go to the Monaco DL and surrounding action!

The tiny Principality of Monaco again gave us a slough of great Records & Marks--despite this being a DL season ridden by Covid horrors!

Josh Cheptegei took down one of the most respected Distance Records in the Men's 5000!
Goodbye Ken Bekele!!
Cheptegei passed 3K in 7:35.14--then picked it up!
His 12:35.36 took almost 2 full seconds off the Legendary Bekele's time!
His closing 2000 of 5:00.22 was superb!
But will this masterpiece last a similar 16 years that Bekele's did?

Besides the WR, he gets the Meet Record, the National Record of Uganda, and the Age 23 Record!!
Nicholas Kimeli took 2nd in a PR of 12:51.78!

While Cheptegei's run was the headliner, perhaps the best EVENT was the Women's 1000--rarely run by Elites!
Faith Kipyegon attacked the race like an 800, and ended with 2:29.15, making her 2nd A-T World!!
She also gets the Kenya NR, the Monaco Meet Record, and the Age 26 Record!
But hang on, Baby, lots more to come!!

Laura Muir took 2nd with her 2:30.82.
She gets the National Record of Great Britain, and the Age 27 Record!
It makes her 6th A-T World!
Ciara Mageean was 3rd in 2:31.06.
She gets Ireland's NR, and the best 3rd Place mark!
Jemma Reekie got the best 4th Place mark with her 2:31.11.
She is 9th A-T World!

Halimah Nakaayi ran 2:32.12.
She broke her own NR of Uganda, got the best 5th Place mark, and is ranked 23rd A-T World!
Sofia Ennaoui's 2:32.30 gave her Poland's NR, and the best 6th Place mark!
Back in 9th came American Raevyn Rogers.
Her 2:37.10 makes her 12th A-T US--NOT noted in the eTN!!
(A good reason to read my blog!!)

Then there was the Men's 1500, and the Women's 5000!
Tim Cheruiyot took Gold with his 3:28.45!
Jacob Ingebrigtsen was 2nd with his 3:28.68.
This takes Norway's NR away from Brother Filip!!
He gets the Age 19 (!!) Record, and now ranks 8th A-T World!!
Jake Wightman of GB took 3rd with 3:29.47.
He's 22nd A-T World, tied with 1 other!

Helen Obiri's 14:22.12 gave her the Monaco Meet Record, as well as the Age 30 Record!
BTW, Obiri now has 4 Age records--and they are CONSECUTIVE--Ages 27, 28, 29, and 30!!
Letesenbet Gidey took 2nd with 14:26.57.
Laura Weightman's PR of 14:35.44 took 3rd.
Jessica Hull got Australia's NR with her 14:43.80!
In 5th came the venerable Shannon Rowbury--with a solid time of 14:45.11.

I'll return with a lot more from Monaco, but let's go to the late July and early August material first!

Valerie Allman smashed the American Record in the Discus Throw with a solid 230-2!!
She missed the World DDD by 13 inches!!
At that same Idaho meet, Chase Ealey go the Season Leader in the SP with her 63-8.25.
And Kara Winger threw the Javelin 211-5!

Remember the Portland IntraSquad meet which saw Shelby Houlihan destroy her own AR in the 5000?
It was a race with only the Bowerman TC involved!
Well, here we go again!!
Same venue, same team!
The 4 X 1500 were the events this time--both Men and Women!
Evan Jager, Grant Fisher, Sean McGorty, and Lopez Lomong averaged approximately 3:38.75 per 1500, with their final time of 14:34.97 getting the American Record!

Colleen Quigley, Elise Cranny, Karissa Schweizer, and Shelby Houlihan averaged about 4:06.75, their final time of 16:27.02 given the American AND World Records!

Asterisk time??
According to the eTN, both times may NOT be ratified as Records!!
They said it was due to the type of meet and races!
We shall see--BUT my blog DOES recognize them as the Records given them!!

Another Oregon meet saw Donovan Brazier run the 800 in 1:43.84--a World Leader.
Shannon Rowbury took the 1500 in 4:03.62.
And Brenda Martinez's 2:02.81 took just 3rd in the 800--but it made ME happy to know she had not retired--as I was thinking she had!!
In Connecticut, Elle Purrier showed some 800 speed with her PR of 2:00.70!

The state of Georgia saw Katie Nageotte reach for the stratosphere in the Pole Vault!
She rose to 16-1.75 in a dominant performance!
(2nd was under 15 feet!)
She gets the Age 29 Record.
It makes her 3rd A-T US, and 6th A-T World!
She becomes the 9th Woman to top 16-0 OUTdoors!
And she is the 3rd US Woman over 16 OUTdoors!!

Still in the Women's PV, a couple of National Records fell!
Michaela Meijer's 15-10 broke Angelica Bengtsson's NR of Sweden!
It makes her 11th A-T World, tied with 3 others!
(A reminder--these rankings are for OUTdoor marks ONLY--no INdoor marks were considered!)
BTW, Bengtsson took 2nd with 15-0.25!
Iryna Zhuk took down the NR of Belarus--her own!--with her mark of 15-5.75!

In Switzerland, the newest 400H star--Femke Bol--ran a flat 400 in a PR of 51.13--winning the race!
In the same meet, Ciara Mageean ran the 800 in 1:59.69--getting Ireland's NR!!

In Greece, Elena Tzenggo threw the Javelin 209-10--getting the Age 18 Record!!

Jamaica's Female Sprint stars strutted their stuff in separate heats of the 100.
Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce ran 10.87, while Elaine Thompson's time was 10.88.
(Why didn't they race each other??)

Bence Halasz had a PR in the HT with his 262-1.
Auriole Dongmo (sp?) got a SP World Leader--and Portugal's NR--with her 64-1!

High School Soph Emiyon Knighton had a great Sprint double!
After a 10.29 in the 100, he sped a half lap in 20.33!
This is the Soph Class Record!
And it makes him 10th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!!

OK, back to Monaco, etc!!

Noah Lyles sped the 200 in 19.76--with brother Josephus WAY back in 2nd!!
(First time brothers got 1-2 in a DL??)
Donovan Brazier improved to 1:43.15 in 2020.
But Bryce Hoppel's 1:43.23 in 2nd makes him 7th A-T US!!
Soufiane El Bakkali's 8:08.04 took the World Lead in the 3000SC!

Karsten Warholm's 47.10 in the 400H gives him Monaco's Meet Record--and the Age 24 Record!!
(The latter mark was Edwin Moses's--dating from 1979!!)
Mondo Duplantis cleared the PV bar set at 19-8.25.
He broke his own Age 20 Record!
And he tied Monaco's MR--first done in 1999!!

Orlando Ortego got the World Leader in the 110H with his 13.11.
Grant Holloway was just 4th with 13.19.
Lynna Irby took the Women's 400 in a World Leading 50.56.

At other sites--
Dan Stahl got a great Discus Throw of 234-2.
Johannes Vetter made the Javelin go past 300 feet--with 300-2.
Nadine Visser's 12.68 gave her the World Lead in the 100H.
In Russia, Anzhelika Sidorova cleared 15-9 in the PV.
Alina Shukh scored 6386 in the Heptathlon in the Ukraine--another World Leader!

In Florida--Where else??--Kenny Bednarek improved to 19.80 in the 200, making him 14th A-T US!
He's short of my World DDD by a measly 0.01 seconds!!
Sha'Carri Richardson had a great series of Marks!
She sped her 200 in 22.00, making her 11th A-T US!!
Her winning time in the Century was 10.95.
But her heat was in 10.83--slightly spoiled by a just over the allowable wind of 2.1!!

Back in Georgia, Justin Robinson ran a World Leading (!!) 44.91 in the 400.
A World Leader??!!
Jeez!

And we end this post with some GREAT High School times!
In Nashville, Tennessee, the one and only Rheinhardt (LOVE his name!!) Harrison didn't win the Mile, but his 4:01.34 gives him the Soph Class Record!!
It also makes him 20th A-T HS!
His enroute 1500 time of 3:46.02 gives him his second Soph Class Record!!

Sophie Gorriaram (sp?) ran an 800 in 2:02.97, making her 13th A-T HS!

I don't normally report 3200 times, but this one is too good to ignore!
Jenna Hutchins's time was 9:49.83.
If the race had been extended an extra 18+ meters, her Two Mile time might have been around 9:52.0!!

Bowerman Babes--What a Crew!

Let me remind readers at the onset--I did not give Jerry Schumacher's crew of great American runners that nickname--THEY did!
Yes, the ladies in question--Shelby Houlihan, Colleen Quigley, Gwen Jorgensen, Elise Cranny, Courtney Frerichs, Karissa Schweizer, among others--attached that moniker to themselves!
To be blunt--looked at from a white male perspective--these ladies ARE "babes"
They're HOT!

But "HOT" can describe incredible talent and ability being used to its utmost--as well as one's physical appearance!!

And on July 10th, in a meet called the Portland IntraSquad, this team of "babes" SMASHED the 5000 American Record to pieces--and then some!
Done in a methodic thoughtful manner--with metronomic pacing (first 7 laps paced by Quigley, Cranny, and Frerichs were ALL 70 seconds each!!)--the last 1600 meters came down to a Race for the Record--between AR holder Houlihan, and the most improved runner of the past year, Schweizer!
After passing 3200 in 9:21 (one lap slowed to 71!), the pacers dropped away!
(I wish they'd been timed officially at Two Miles--their times would all be some of the best!!)

Houlihan hit top form in the last 400--Schweizer trying to match Shelby's moves--an d took down her own AR with 14:23.92!
Schweizer ended in 14:26.34--taking 19 seconds off her previous best!!
Houlihan' is 13th A-T World!
Schweizer is 15th A-T World--and of course 2nd A-T US!
They negative split the race!!
In my Combined Events for the 1500 & 5000, Houlihan's 3:54.99 and 14:23.92 adds to 18:18.91.
This makes her 5th A-T World, and Number One on my US list!
Schweizer's 4:02.81 and 14:26.34 adds to 18:29.15.
She is 2nd A-T US!

A Men's 5K was also held, with some incredible results!
Canada's Mo Ahmed crushed through the 13 minute barrier, timing 12:47.20 to break his own National Record.
He gets the Age 29 Record, and is 10th A-T World!
Lopez Lomong timed 12:58.78--his first sub-13--making him 8th A-T US!
On my C-E list for the 1500 and 5000, Ahmed's 3:34.89 and 12:47.20 adds to 16:22.09.
He is 11th A-T World.
Lomong's 12:58.78 and his 10K of 27:04.20 adds to 40:02.98.
He is 3rd A-T US!
His 3:32.20 & 12:58.78 adds to 16:30.98, making him 4th A-T US!
And this is supposed to be a quiet year??

Ryan Crouser took the World Lead with a SP of 71-9 in Georgia!
Returning there later in July, he got a quarter inch PR with his 75-2!
This is the Age 27 Record.
It makes him 3rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
He is 2nd A-T US, tied with 1 other!

In that 1st Georgia meet, Katie Nageotte cleared 15-5 in the PV.
Then, she lost to Sandi Morris's 15-9.25 in South Carolina, clearing the same height!
Finally, in the 2nd Georgia meet, she topped 15-10.
She's now 10th A-T World, tied with 3 others.
She's 3rd A-T US, tied with 1 other!

Michael Norman sprinted to a 100 in 9.86, moving him onto my C-E for the 100 & 200 & 400!
The time itself makes him 17th A-T World, tied with 8 others!
And he's 8th A-T US , tied with 2 others!

His times of 9.86 & 19.70 & 43.45 adds to 1:13.01.
He is 3rd A-T World, and 2nd A-T US!
For his C-E's of 9.86 and 19.70, his time of 29.56 makes him 6th A-T US!

Rai Benjamin took second in 10.03!

Karissa Schweizer returned to action with a new 1500 PR of 4:00.02.
It makes her 8th A-T US!
It also improves her 1500 & 5000 C-E time--her 4:00.02 and 14:26.34 adds to 18:26.36.
This makes her 11th A-T World, and strengthens her hold on 2nd A-T US!!
What ARE her limits??

Other events--
Benard Kibet ran the 10000 in 27:14.89 for the World Lead in Japan.
Bedan Karoki took 2nd in 27:15.97!
Nazomi Tancha got the Japan National Record with her 3000 in 8:41.35.

In a home meet, Jamaica's Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce took the World Lead with a 100 in 11.00.
In HS events, Tyus Wilson HJ'ed 7.1.
Maria Deaviz had a SP of 53-0.25, making her 13th A-T HS!
Amanda Moll, a Washington Pole Vaulter, cleared 14-3.75 to get the Frosh Class Record!
This is better then the Soph Class Record!!
It makes her 7th A-T HS!!
Also, she becomes the 18th Woman to clear 14 feet or higher OUTdoors!!

In Oregon, Nijel Amos ran a 600 in 1:15.86.
Nia Akins led a trio of Women to fast 600 times.
Her 1:27.20 beat Sadi Henderson's 1:27.43, and Chanelle Price's 1:27.49!
Shannon Rowbury took the World Lead with her 3000 in 8:40.26.

Daniel Haugh threw the Hammer 250-1.
In Belarus, Nastassia Mironchyk-Ivanova took the LJ World Lead with her 22-9.
In Japan, Rosemary Wanjiri ran the 10K World Leading time of 30:38.18!
Aliona Dubitskaya threw the SP a World Leading 63-2.75.
The fast improving Femke Bol broke her own Netherlands National Record in the 400H with her 53.79.

Nick Ponzio had a SP of 71-3.25, taking up the caboose position on my US DDD list!!
Noah Lyles ran 200 meters in  19.94.
Steven Gardiner timed 19.96.
Cory McGee ran the Mile in 4:21.81, making her 8th A-T US!
Rudy Winkler has a new Hammer Throw PR--his 264-9 making him 3rd A-T US!!

Mauricio Ortega's DT of 230-7 gives him Colombia's NR, and makes him 24th A-T World!
In 2nd came Juan Calceda's 228-4, which gives him Ecuador's NR!!

Finally, there's Shaunae Miller-Uibo's 10.96 in the 100, a big PR!
Her times of 10.96 & 21.74 & 48.37 adds to 1:21.07.
This makes her 3rd A-T World i n that C-E department!
(She also ran the 200 in 21.98!)

I saved SMU for last for a reason!
Going back about 4 weeks, when I had just started recapping the T&F world's events beginning with 2019's WC's in Doha--I inrterrupted my trip down Memory Lane with a post titled "Three Stories".
As you might remember, the 1st of those stories was about Salwa Naser!

A few months earlier--June?--she had been "provisionally" banned because of a series of missed drug tests.
I THOUGHT that mean's she'd lose her 48.14 Gold winning time from Doha, and all that came with it--and would mean that Miller'-Uibo's 48.37 would be given the Gold!

After a controversially long deliberative process, the AIU (Athlete Integrity Unit), chose to NOT press charges against Naser.
Apparently, she gave the right address for where she'd be--but no clear directions for how to find her particular apartment!
Also, another of her FOUR missed tests was backdated to January 1st, thus re moving it from the charges!!

So Naser's 48.14 stands, as does her Medal.
She is NOT banned!!

But Shaunae Miller-Uibo did NOT like the AIU's action.
(Apparently, Christian Coleman is under scrutiny for basically the same reasons, and HIS case may be affected by Naser's case!!)
SMU took to her InstaGram account, and attacked everyone and their brother, ranting on at length about this.
But who can blame her?
She had the most to gain from a ban for Naser!!

Late Start Not a False Start!

Maybe it's 3 months late--maybe we're socially distanced & quarantined--maybe this whole freaking world has gone apocalyptic--but what the f--k do we care?--
Our Sport is BACK!!

Yes, the INdoor NCAA and NBIN  and WC's were cancelled!
Yes, we had no early Relay season--Texas, Florida, Penn, Kansas, Drake all gone!
London Marathon postponed, Boston Marathon cancelled!
No Doha and Shanghai or Pre DL's!

So what DID we get??
Well, let me tell you!

NOTE--
The following report covers the period from around June 10 to July 4th!
At this writing, I have no reason to believe that any of these Records and Marks will not be ratified or accepted due to the strange ways they were presented and conducted!
No crowds, limited events per meet, Covid tests as well as drug testing, some "intra-squad" competitions, you name it!
But these athletes must have done some things right during the 3 month hiatus, as you will discover below!
Enjoy!

It began at the truncated Bislett Games--now called the "Impossible Games"!
What??!!

And it was the Ingebrigtsen family (and one other Norwegian!) who set the Oslo track afire!!
Filip set a Norway National Record with his 1000 of 2:16.96!
Then younger brother Jakob tore around the oval 5 times, blazing a 2000 in 4:50.01 for yet another Norway NR!!
I don't have a list for the 2K, but it's 7th A-T World!!
His brothers followed, with Henrik timing 4:53.72, then Filip doubling back with 4:56.911!

Similar to when the Pre meet held their Distance Friday a few years ago, and they had a 10000 AND a 30000 meter race--separate races!!--both of which produced super fast times!--
Sondre Moen ran 62 and a half laps (25K) in the World Record time of 1:12:46.5!!
It's also the NR of Norway--obviously!
It may be rarely run, but it's a GREAT time!!

Oh, BTW, Karsten Warholm also got into the WR action, running the 300H in 33.78, crushing the old mark by about seven tenths of a second!!

Mondo Duplantis continued his strong season--a bit belated!--with his OUTdoor opener of 19-3.75!1
Some days later, he cleared 19-5.75, getting the Age 20 Record!!

Other PV news--
In Mexico, 2 Americans got PR's, both clearing 19-4.25.

Jake Wooten beat Matt Ludwig, both now ranking 11th A-T US, and tied with each other!!
In 3rd came another PR, Audie Wyatt's 19-1.

Remember Wilma Murto?
A teen prodigy, I hadn't seen her name in results the past year or more!
She went over 15-1 in a meet in Finland!
Michaela Meijer got a World Leader with her 15-5.75 in Sweden!

High School PROBABLY saw the OUTdoor HSR being broken!
Even though the eTN says it was SECOND best!!
Leah Pasqualetti topped the bar set at 14-8.25 in a California meet!!
By MY records, this is the HSR!!
I believe T&FN said it was 2nd because they include INdoor marks on their "absolute" lists!
I do NOT!!
Thus, if you believe the INdoor and OUTdoor seasons are 100% separate and distinct--with 100% separate and distinct lists and Records--then Pasqualetti is the new OUTdoor HSR holder!!
She also gets the Senior Class Record!
Paige Sommers was a solid Silver with her 14-1.75!!

Not a HS mark--actually a MIDDLE School mark--
One Veronica Vacca went over a bar measuring 12-0 in New Jersey!
According to the eTN, this is the Age 13 Record AND the 7th Grade Record!
And she shattered her previous best by "just" 14 inches!!
A female Mondo in the making??

Amanda Moll--another HS'er--cleared 13-9, missing the Frosh Class Record by a quarter inch!!
Anthony Meacham went over 17-0.75 early.
Finally, getting back to the World scene, Tina Sutej broke her own Slovenia NR with her 15-7.
She misses my World DDD by that same quarter inch!!

The Distances (besides those great Norway times!) got off to a quick start!
Rose Almanza ripped off a couple of speedy 800's--1:59.83, then 1:58.92--in separate meets!

In the HS world, John Lester ran the 800 in 1:48.26, ranking 20th A-T HS!
Cruz Culpepper took 2nd in 1:48.50!
Then in a livestreamed one-off race against the clock, Leo Daschbach became the latest sub-4 guy, timing 3:59.54!
He's 8th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
His 1500 split of 3:44.6 ranks him 15th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
Cole Sprout took 2nd with a fine 4:02.42!

Sophia Gorriaram ran the 800 in 2:03.36.
She's a Frosh, and is about one second off the Frosh Class Record set by the great Robin Campbell in 1974!!

Nico Young followed (a few months later!!) his INdoor HSR in the 3000 with a fast 5000 OUTdoors!
He timed 13:50.55, making him 4th A-T HS!
His 3000 split of 8:09.99 makes him 14th A-T HS there!!

In an Oregon race, a pair of ex-Stanford guys went at it, Sean McGorty's 13:11.22 taking the World Lead over the 13:11.68 of Grant Fisher!!

The Women weren't left out!
Shelby Houlihan led things off with her 4:02.37 win in the 1500.
Karissa Schweizer sped a PR of 4:02.81 in 2nd, making her 19th A-T US!!
Cut OFF my US list was the late great Kim Gallagher, her time being 4:03.29 back in 1982!
She tragically died at age 38 from cancer!

Elise Cranny began in HS as a 800-Mile girl.
But she showed a bit of potential over longer distances (She has LOTS of XC experience!!) with her 5000 in 14:48.02!
This makes her 7th A-T US!!
She needed that to beat another "transferee"--she from the 3000SC--Courtney Frerichs's time of 14:50.06!
She's 8th A-T US!
Another SC'er--Colleen Quigley--got a 5K PR with her 15:10.42 in 3rd!

Donovan Brazier took the World Leader position with his 1500 time of 3:35.95!
Chanelle Price returned with an 800 in 2:01.47.
I hadn't seen her name in results of late--but good to have her "back"!

The Throws had some great stuff to offer!
Let's begin there with a High School Record!
Trey Knight began his "season" with a good HT of 243-2.
Then he got serious!
His 261-7 disappeared into the sunset, nailing the HSR and the Senior Class Record in the process!!
A long-developing potential fulfilled!!

Daniel Stahl had meets of 218-3 and a World Leading 230-5 in the Discus Throw!
In Austria, Lukes Weidholdinger (sp ?) threw the DT 225-2.
Kristja Cah got the NR of Slovenia with his opener of 217-6 in the DT.
He then broke his own NR with 225-6 a few days later!

Bence Halasz got a HT of 258-9--a World Leader!
Cheyenne Figueroa whipped her Hammer out 187-5, making her 22nd A-T HS!
Maria Devitz got a good Shot Put mark of 52-1.25--making her 23rd A-T HS!
(Let's not forget that these were isolated events, as the entire HS and Collegiate seasons were cancelled due to Covid!!)
In Arizona, Nick Ponzio lifted his SP to 69-2.
Finally, in China, Huihui Lu got a World Leader in the Javelin Throw with her 221-10!

Other stuff--
Ivana Spanovic's 22-3.75 LJ was a World Leader early on!
Kristja Pulli LJ'ed 27-1.75 for the National Record of Finland!
Andy Diaz got the TJ World Leader with his 56-9.25!
Also in Cuba, Adriana Rodriguez got the Heptathlon World Lead with her score of 6309 points!
Topping Ms Spanovic's mark was Khaddi Sagnia's LJ of 22-4.75!

The Sprints weren't ignored--
Veteran Amantle Montsho must have been prepping for another Olympics when she ran a 400 in the World Leading time of 51.22!
Not quite an Age 36 record, but good!
She turned 37 on July 4th!!

A World Lead in the 100H went to Elvira Herman's 12.73 in Belarus!
Steven Gardiner ran a pair of 300's in different meets--31.95, then the World Leader of 31.83!
Trayvon Bromell ran a fast 100 in Florida (Where else??!!), his time being 10.04!
Kenny Bednarek got the 200 World Leader with his 20.08!
ShaCarri Richardson sped 11.05 for the Women's World Lead!

Shaunae Miller-Uibo was busy--getting the 200 World Leader with her 22.61--following that with a 400 in 50.52.
She beat former HS Sprint phenom Kaylin Whitney, who PR'ed in 2nd with 51.99!!

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (aka JCQ!) sped a 300 in 36.12.
Finally--REALLY!--Femke Bol ran the 400H in the Netherlands National Record time of 54.47!

So, they said this season was cancelled--and much of it WAS!
But as you just read, these athletes--of all levels of the sport!--weren't just homebound and quarantined 24/7!
Even with the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games being moved to 2021 (!!), action on the Track and Field was pretty darn HOT!!

UNmasked Look at T&F 2020 OUTdoors

 For long time readers of my blog, you know that the "OUTdoor" season normally begins with my coverage of early Relay meets--Texas, Florida, Penn, Kansas, Drake!
Toss in reports from the Boston & London Marathons, and all the marks from Down Under--which really begins on January 1.
Oh yes, and not forgetting "ending" the INdoor season with the NCAA and NBIN meets here, and the World Championships--wherever!

Then CoronaVirus-19 hit us like ten tsunami's, or 15 Level 5 hurricanes, or--well, you know!!

If you want the ENTIRE history of this Pandemic, check out "Think Global Health".
They have a COMPLETE (and very simply written!) day-by-day account of this Horror Show--when each Nation had its 1st case or death, when they shut down, what Trump said or did--or didn't do!
I just found it a few days ago--and it SCARED me half to death!!

But this blog is about Track and Field--and XC and Road Racing, not the Pandemic!
Yet I must talk about what it's done to our 2020 season--beginning right around the first of March!

We'd just had the USATF meet, and were looking ahead to the NCAA & NBIN & the WC's!
Then--POOF!!--they're GONE!!
Cancelled or postponed, but gone!

No INdoor Collegiate, HS, or World Champs this year!
None of those above listed Relays, or any of the great Stanford distance affairs.
No Spring Marathons!!

And then--no early Diamond League meets, and others delayed!
Finally, no Olympic Games in Tokyo--or at least not until 2021!!

For these "looking back" posts I've been doing since my cataract surgery, I've relied mainly on the eTN put out by Track and Field News!
One indication of what's happened this year is to see the last results eTN dated from right after the INdoor USATF meet.
The NEXT one BEGINS with results from OUTdoor meets--in JUNE!!
About THREE months had gone by--no Track Newsletter, no Meets, NADA!!

Well, I'm about to tell you of the results that DID happen since those June meets!
As with my last 13 posts, I'll recount the Marks and Records in chronological fashion.
I have no idea how many posts it will take to bring you--and me--and this blog!--up to the present day!
But please continue with me on this Journey of Discovery (I couldn't see very well, so I don't even know all of what happened these past few months!).
As ever, you'll get ALL of the great Records and Marks I can find!

One more thing.
Because of the "odd" nature of these "meets"--or "competitions"--I will be adding extra commentary along the way, mainly when I believe certain events or marks might be "questionable"--due to the "social distancing" and such!

INdoors 2020 Suddenly Ends with AOY Selections

 Just like that, the amazing entity known as the 2020 INdoor Track & Field season--vanished!
Even knowing the reason--CoronaVirus19--doesn't lessen the disappointment, the hurt, the dreams for what might have been!
And what poor timing!
Just before the two best non-Pro events of the season--the NCAA and NBIN Championship meets!
Look back at my "catch up" posts during the past month to see the potential--now gone!!

But let's stop whining!
Instead, let this blog do what it always does at ends of seasons--no matter the reasons (and I rhymed!!  LOL)--report the last known results, then choose my Athletes (etc) of the Year!
Unlike the OUTdoor AOY's, I do ALL of them at once for INdoors--meaning for my 4 core groups--HS, Collegiate, US, and the World!
So take off your mask (if you're inside your home!), get the old popcorn ready, and read on!

I'll begin with my INdoor results since my previous post!
My OUTdoor results will come after my Award Ceremony!

Lucky for us Marks Researchers, several of the Conferences were held on Oversize Tracks--meaning I can IGNORE EVERY track race longer than 60 meters!
It's shitty and unfair for EVERY runner who does those events, and I still don't understand WHY!!
If I were an athlete, I would boycott any meet held on an OT--even if it meant quitting the team!!
OK, enough!
Sorry.

The Big 10 saw Andrew Liskowitz throw the SP 68-11.75.
He's ranked 20th A-T Collegiate!
The Big 12 had a tie in the Men's Pole Vault, with both KC Lightfoot and Zach Bradford reaching 18-11 to co-hold the Meet Record!
Abby Steiner lit a fire on the track at SEC's with her 200 in 22.57!
She's now 15th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Corey McLeod LJ'ed 26-10.50, making him 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
And while Tonea Marshall won the 60H with her 7.89, it was 2nd placer Grace Stark who gets the Frosh Class Record with her time of 7.91!
She's 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Anzhelika Sidorova ended her spectacular INdoor season with her best mark--16-2.75 in Russia!
She broke her own Age 28 Record, and ranks 3rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Lijao Gong got a SP World Leader of 64-7.50!

HS'ers had a few good marks--
A 600 race saw Radeem Hayals run 1:18.48 to rank 6th A-T HS!
Second went to Josh Peron's 1:19.97, ranking him 21st A-T HS, tied with 1 other!
Madison Whyte sprinted a 300 in 37.81, good for 11th A-T HS!
Finally, Karrie Baloga ran a Frosh Class Record time of 9:34.52 in the 3000 meters!!

World Athlete of the Year-MEN
Who else but two time World Record breaker MONDO DUPLANTIS!
Absolutely NO contest!!
Honorable Mentions go to Christian Coleman, Donovan Brazier, Grant Holloway, Sam Kendricks, and Ryan Crouser!

DONOVAN BRAZIER gets this for his AR 800, and a fast 600!

They chose Ajee Wilson, but I saw her AR in the 800 as being less than her UNratified AR of 1:58.24, erased because of her tainted beef ban!  
KARISSA SCHWEIZER not only smashed a solid Record by a venerable athlete, but she beat a far better kicker than I thought Schweizer to be!

The Men's race went to Berhanu Legesse in 2:04:15.
Bashir Abdi was 2nd in  a Belgium National Record time of 2:04:49!
In 4th, Suguru Osiko got Japan's NR with his time of 2:05:29!

In the Women's race, Israel's Lornah Salpeter ran a National Record time of 2:17:45!!
This makes her 6th A-T World!!
Birhane Dibaba was 2nd in 2:18:35.
She is 13th A-T World!

Next post will be either my first results post of the 2020 OUTdoor season--however truncated it's been!

Boston-Atlanta-Lievin-UAE & More

 2020 became a Season for the Ages in late February--and it wasn't limited to INdoors!
They put on a Record breaking distance show at Boston's "Last Chance" meet!
Atlanta had the Olympic Trials Marathon!
Lievin's "World INdoor Meet" was superb!
The United Arab Emirates RAK Half Marathon gave us a World Record!
And soooo much more!!

I felt Shelby Houlihan could go sub-8:30 in the 3000, based on her OUTdoor PR of 3:54.99 in the 1500!
In fact, IMHO, sub-8:20 wouldn't be entirely out of the question!
And I knew Karissa Schweizer had entered the Pro ranks with a BANG in 2019.
But I did NOT think Karissa had any chance to outkick the best kicker this nation (and the World?) has right now!
Thus, when Ms Schweizer did just that over the final half lap, I was stunned!!

Schweizer's 8:25.70 took 7.6 seconds off Shalane Flanagan's American Record in topping Houlihan's 8:26.66!!
Whether Shelby just wasn't in her best shape, or it's Schweizer who now heads the A-list of US distance runners, but this result was an absolute SHOCKER!!

Karissa gets the AR, and is now 5th A-T World!!
Shelby is 7th A-T World!, and 2nd A-T US!
Colleen Quigley also mixed it up, timing 8:28.71.
She ranks 9th A-T World, and 3rd A-T US!
Shalane is suddenly FOURTH A-T US!!

They were all timed at 2000 meters enroute, and THAT list got several revisions!
As noted, Houlihan led early, so her 5:40.33 at 2K makes her 14th A-T World, and 2nd A-T US!
Schweizer's 5:40.57 gets her 15th A-T World, and 3rd A-T US!
Quigley timed 5:40.81 at 2000, and is 18th A-T World, and 4th A-T US!
Their rabbit--Kate Grace--was timed at 2K also, so her 5:41.87 makes her 7th A-T US!!

BTW, in another 3000 race. 2nd placer Grace Forbes of Rice ran 8:56.82.
She gets the Frosh Class Record, and is 18th A-T Collegiate!
Back in 6th, Mary Cain ran her best race of 2020, timing 9:07.51!

In the Women's 5000, Konstanze Klosterhalfen's 14:30.79 gave her Germany's National Record, the Age 23 Record, and makes her 4th A-T World!

This was a great race for Americans!!
Vanessa Fraser took 2nd with her 14:48.51.
This makes her 2nd A-T US, and 10th A-T World!
Emily Infeld was 3rd in 14:51.91.
She's 3rd A-T US, and 14th A-T World!
Courtney Frerichs ran 15:02.91, so ranks 7th A-T US, while acting as caboose on my World DDD!
Gwen Jorgenson timed 15:10.98, and ranks 12th A-T US!
Jessica Tonn ran 15:12.33, and is 15th A-T US!
Then there's Erica Kemp's 15:14.78, which ranks her 17th A-T US!!
Incredible!!

Boston gave a "Last Chance" to the Men also!
Josh Thompson sprinted to a 1500 in 3:34.77.
This is 2nd A-T US, and misses the World list by a mere 0.01 seconds!!
Brannon Kidder's 3:36.51 makes him 11th A-T US!
Abe Alvarado's 3:36.82 makes him 13th A-T US!

In 4th, Oregon's James West got the Collegiate Record (taking it away from ex-Duck Ed Cheserek!), his 3:36.93 also being the Senior Class Record!
Sam Tanner finished 6th with his 3:39.99, which makes him 10th A-T Collegiate!

In the Mile, Charlie Hunter won it in 3:55.41.
This makes him 13th A-T Collegiate!
Cooper Teare was close behind, his 3:55.50 making him 15th A-T Collegiate!
Cut OFF my Collegiate list was the late great Tom O'Hara, whose 3:56.4 dated from 1964!!

Lopez Lomong took the 3000 in 7:37.79!
He's now 6th A-T US!
Ryan Hill's non-PR was next, followed by Evan Jager's 7:38.35, which ranks him 7th A-T US!
Grant Fisher's 7:39.99 makes him 13th A-T US!

In the 5K (!!), we saw Shadrack Kipchirchir race to a 13:08.25 time!
This makes him 7th A-T US, and 21st A-T World!
Great Britain's Marc Scott ran 13:08.87.
This gives him his National Record, and 23rd A-T World!

Ed Cheserek (13:09.05) and Eric Jenkins (13:10.07) followed!
Willy Fink ended 7th in 13:17.15, and rates 13th A-T US!
Andy Bayer's 13:24.67 rates him 18th A-T US!
Jordan Mann's 13:27.88 ranks him 20th A-T US!
And Jacob Thomson ran 13:28.35 for 24th A-T US position!!

Before her pacing duties, Kate Grace won the 1000 in 2:35.49, making her 5th A-T US--and barely missing the World list!
In the 1500, Heather McClain ran 4:05.29, ranking her 8th A-T US!
Emily Lipari's 4:06.49 makes her 15th A-T uS!
(Believe it or not, HS'ers did well in Boston also, but I'll save those for my HS report a bit later!!

NOTE
As we now know (in October!), the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was postponed until 2021 due to the Pandemic!
That said, I'll still report the bare bones results of the Olympic Trials Marathon, held in the 1996 OG city of Atlanta!!
I haven't seen the details as to whether this "team" will be our reps in Tokyo next year--or whether there will be ANOTHER Trials Marathon!

Galen Rupp's 2:09:20 was the winner!
Jake Riley's 2:10:02 was 2nd, and makes him 21st A-T US!
Ancient Abdi Abdirahman (How's that for alliteration?!  LOL) took the Bronze with his fine 2:10:23!
Left "off" the team was Len Korir, his 2:10:28 JUST missing!!

Aliphine Tuliamuk prevailed in the Women's race, her 2:27:23 beating Molly Seidel by 8 seconds!
The somewhat surprising Seidel timed 2:27:31, which ranks her 21st A-T US!
New Citizen Sally Kipyego was 3rd in 2:28:52!
The Ready Steady Des Linden took the dreaded 4th in 2:29:03!

Wayyyy back--in 76th--came HS Junior Tierney Wolfgram.
Her time was a very decent 2:42:47!!

The World INdoor Tour has been going on, but thus far, I've treated the meets like any other!
But this one--in Lievin, France--was pretty good!

Ronnie Baker sprinted the first of a pair of 6.44's in the 60--the 2nd being later in a meet in Madrid!
Sam Teferi got the World Leader with his 1500 time of 3:35.54!

Both PV's were great!
New WR holder Mondo Duplantis missed 3 tries at another WR, but did go over 19-11.
Sam Kendricks was 2nd at 19-4.25!
Ben Broaders reached 19-0.25 for Belgium's National Record!

Sandi Morris led the Women with her high bar of 15-10.
She needed it to beat HOT Robelys Peinado's 15-8.25!
She'd been beating Venezuela's NR by an inch or less, but this time she WHOMPED it, clearing 15-8.25, to add more than 5 inches to her NR!
It also makes her 17th A-T World, tied with 1 other!!
Yaroslav Silva and Angelica Bengtsson both cleared 15-6.25, and were listed as tied!

In the 3000, Getnet Wale timed 7:32.80, making him 17th A-T World!
Selaman Barega's 7:33.19 makes him 21st A-T World!
Berhanu Yemataw ran 7:34.59 for Bahrain's NR!
Finally (for Lievin!), Lemlem Haila broke her own Age 18 Record in the 1500 with her 2nd place finish in 4:01.57!

At that UAE Half, Yeshanah Ababel got the World Record with her brilliant 64:31!
It's the Ethiopia National Record, and the Age 28 Record!
She beat Brigid Kosgei's 64:49.
This gives the WR holder in the Marathon Kenya's NR, the Age 26 Record, and makes her 2nd A-T World!!
Rosemary Wanjiri was next in 65:34!
But then followed a string of Place bests!!
Y Yalemzerf ran 66:35 for the best 6th Place mark!
M Shauri's 66:37 is the best 7th Place mark!
She also gets Tanzania's National Record!!
Viv Kiplagat ran 66:38 for the best 8th Place mark!
D Azimeraw's 67:02 gets the best 9th Place mark!
While one full minute behind, F Chemutai's 68:02 gets her the best 10th Place mark!!

The Men's race went to Kandie Kibiwott's 58:58.
This makes him 22nd A-T World, tied with 1 other!

A meet NOT in my title produced a World Record and assorted other goodies!1
Madrid was the venue where Yulimar Rojas took a firm grip on her Gold position, Triple Jumping out to a VERY classy 50-7.50!!
It's the World Record, and breaks her own Venezuela National Record, and her own Age 24 Record!!

Behind the 2nd 6.44 of Ronnie Baker (See above!) came Darnell Kemp's 6.48!
He's 16th A-T US, tied with 5 others!
In the 60H, Damien Czykies (sp?) ran 7.48 for Poland's N ational Record!
Juan Echevarria took the World Lead with his 27-7.25 in  the LJ!
Filip Miheljevic's SP landed at 71-4, giving him Croatia's NR, and making him 22nd A-T World!

At the Virginia Tech Challenge, Bridget Guy cleared 15-1.50 in the Pole Vault.
Good enough to make her 14th A-T US, tied with 3 others!
But even more significant (for my Record Book!) is that it sent OFF the list the last sub-15 Vaulter!!
You need a 15-0.25 clearance to make my United States DDD now!!

At LSU, Morgann LeLeux topped 15-5 in the PV, making her 8th A-T uS, tied with 1 other!
Rachel Tanczos sent the WT out 76-5.75, making her 15th A-T US, and 21st A-T World!
Taylor Scaifi's 75-1.25 makes her 19th A-T US, and 24th A-T World!

In a Nebraska meet, Mondo Duplantis lost his short-lived Collegiate Record in the PV!!
Chris Nilsen's 19-5.50 added one half inch to Mondo's 2019 mark!
It's also the Senior Class Record!
It makes him 4th A-T US, tied with 2 others, and 15th A-T World, tied with 3 others!

Robelys Peinado (See above!) had another good mark before Lievin, earlier breaking the Venezuela NR with her 15-3!

OUTdoors, in New Zealand, Valerie Adams had mixed results in the SP!
She lost one--barely--but won her first with a toss of 61-8.50!
At least we know she's in the game!!

Julia Ratcliffe whipped the Hammer out 237-4 for New Zealand's NR!

Back INdoors--
Russia's Anzhelika Sidorova cleared  16-1.75 in the PV, getting the Age 28 Record, and making her 4th A-T World!!

Yaroslava Mahuchikh topped the HJ bar set at 6-7 in the Ukraine!
Mondo (No need for further ID!) cleared 19-8.50 in a good competition!
Renaud Lavillenie took 2nd with 19-5.75, while Sam Kendricks got the Bronze with his 19-3!
Sandi Morris took the Women's event with her 15-9.
Tina Sutej took 2nd with her new Slovenia NR of 15-6.50!

In Belgrade, Filip Miheljevic's SP of 71-8 breaks his own National Record of Croatia!

And finally (Yes, FINALLY!!), here's that promised HS report!!
Jaden Price-Whitehead LJ'ed 25-0, making him 18th A-T HS!
Aaliyah Butler ran a 400 in 53.03, making her 12th A-T HS!

At that Boston meet, HS'ers shone!
Alex Fleury ran the Mile in 4:05.57, making him 9th A-T HS!
Gavin Sherry ran Two Miles in 8:53.25, making him 20th A-T HS!

NOTE
Jack Shepard's HS Track 2019 edition lists the Women's Soph Class Record INdoors as belonging to Mary (Decker) Slaney!
The time given is the SPLIT time of 2:01.8, on her way to an 880 yard time of 2:02.4!
Jack has always listed this mark as the Soph Class Record!
BUT--in an eTN, both of the following times are listed as being the new "Soph Class Record"!!
Based on MY REcord Book--and Jack Shepard's much-respected book--they are NOT!!
But great times nonetheless!!

Last but not least, we go OUTdoors again!!
Prior to this meet, Paige Sommers's PR in the PV was 13-6!!
She topped that by a FULL FOOT--her 14-6 giving her the JUNIOR Class Record, and making her 4th A-T HS!!

Covid's horrors may have been THIS close, but these great athletes made the closing days of "normalcy" a damn fine show!!

Oh Mondo OH!

 Back in the day, a dance craze called "Limbo" asked "How Lowww can you goooo?".
We might be asking of Armand "Mondo" Duplantis--"How Highhh can he goooo?"
After his SECOND World Record--and his FOURTH Personal Record of the year, the question may not have a definitive answer!

In Glasgow, the PV phenom raised the bar (Heh.) of his event by half an inch, clearing the new World, Swedish National, and Age 20 Record of 20-3.25!
With 4 consecutive Age Records (that my Record Book includes), he's just 1 short of Sergey Bubka's total INdoors!
And Bubka's earliest is Age 22!
He holds all 4 Class Records for HS, and they appear untouchable!
He may be Sweden's G.O.A.T in all of T&F!
The only reason he doesn't hold the Collegiate Record is because he turned Pro after his Freshman year!
(Spoiler Alert!)
I believe my Athlete of the Year for World Men HAS been chosen!

Maybe it's Mondo's successes, but the PV has been big all year, with other 19 footers, and a few great marks from the Women!

In Iowa, KC Lightfoot reached 19-1.50!
This made him 16th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
At the Tyson meet, Zach Bradford went over 19-0.25, making him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 4 others!
Matt Ludwig cleared 19-2.25 at the USATF Champs, making him 10th A-T US, tied witth 5 others!
Branson Ellis took 2nd at 19-0.25.
He is 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 4 others, and 19th A-T US, tied with a full DOZEN others!!
Also at USATF, Sandi Morris won it by clearing 16-0.75.
And it SUHRly comes as no surprise that Queen Jenn  got the Age 38 Record with her clearance of 15-11!
Olivia Gruver is reaching for the skies (or in this case, the ROOF!!  LOL) with her new PR of 15-5!
This gets her 8th A-T US, and 2nd A-T Collegiate!!
In Russia, Anzhelika Sidorova went over 15-11.25!

Moving to the Track--and Roads--the Distances have also seen some great marks in 2020!
Taking 3rd at USATF, Karissa Schweizer PR'ed at 1500 in 4:08.32.
This makes her 18th A-T US!
A Boston Men's 1000 saw Rob Napolitano run 2:18.36, making him 13th A-T US!
In 2nd came Colby Alexander, his 2:19.24 making him 23rd A-T US!
A solid 3000--also in Boston--saw Luis Grijalvo winning in 7:43.73.
It makes him 6th A-T Collegiate, and is the Soph Class Record!
Third (other places taken by Canadians!) went to Geordie Beemish (!!), whose 7:44.67 makes him 7th A-T Collegiate!
And Tyler Day's 5th place time of 7:45.70 makes him 12th A-T Collegiate!

Nia Akins gets the Senior Class Record with her 800 time of 2:00.71 at USATF!
It makes her 2nd A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!
In the Women's 3000 there, High Schooler Marlee Starliper took 7th, but her time of 9:07.14 ranks her 3rd A-T HS, and is the Senior Class Record!!

Jenny Simpson galloped to a 5000 time of 14:58.67 in (Where else??) Boston!
It's the Age 33 Record, and according to my Record Book, makes her the oldest Indoor sub-15 runner ever!
It also makes her 3rd A-T US, and 19th A-T World!
Dani Jones was far back, but her 15:17.11 makes her 9th A-T Collegiate, and 17th A-T US!
Next came Makena Morley's 15:26.22, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!
Then, in 8th, was HS'er Katelynn Hart, her 16:09.56 making her 4th A-T HS!!
Mikayla Paige nipped 0.01 seconds off her 600 PR, her 1:29.70 leaving her 7th A-T HS!

At the Monaco Road 5k, Josh Cheptegai of Uganda ran the 5000 meter course ijn the World Record time of 12:51!
In second came Jimmy Gressier, whose 13:18 took the European Record!

At USATF, Christian Coleman's 6.37 got him the Age 23 Record!
Mikiah Brisco took the Women's 60 in 7.04, making her 10th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Javianne Oliver is that "other", as she ran 7.04 in the semi's, going 7.08 in the final.
Wadeline Jonathas ran 400 in 51.32, making her 21st A-T US!
Grant Holloway's 7.38 over 60H got him the Age 22 Record!
This Clemson race saw Trey Cunningham run 7.51, making him 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Also at Clemson, Anania Battle sprinted 200 in 22.66, making her 21st A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Keni Harrison took the World Lead position there with her 60H time of 7.80!

Some Relays--
Kentucky improved to 3:29.74, making them 12th A-T School!
At Tyson, North Carolina A & T ran 3:04.12, making them 8th A-T School!

Tonea Marshall sped 60H in 7.89 for the win at Tyson.
But it was Alia Armstrong's 7.95 in 2nd that gave her the Frosh Class Record, and made her 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!

Field
Donald Scott Triple Jumped 56-6.75, making him 13th A-T US!
Ryan Crouser exploded out to 74-1.75 in the SP, making him 2nd A-T World and US!
It's also the USATF Meet Record, and breaks his own Age 27 Record!!

USATF also had a great WT  competition!
Conor McCullough's 83-0.50 gave him the Age 29 Record.
It makes him 4th A-T World, and 2nd A-T US!
Dan Haugh continued his solid season, reaching 82-2, breaking his own Age 24 Record!
It makes him 7th A-T World, and 6th A-T US!
Third was Daniel Roberts, whose 80-8.50 makes him 8th A-T World, and 7th A-T US!
Then followed Alex Young's 80-1.50, which makes him 10th A-T World, and 9th A-T US!

Tori Franklin took over (from herself!!) as American Record holder in the TJ at USATF!
Her new mark of 48-0.50 is also the Meet Record!
Keturah Orji was close, her 47-11.75 making her 2nd A-T US!
Imani Oliver's third place 45-3.50 makes her 16 A-T US, tied with 1 other!

Chase Ealey's 62-3.75 took USATF's SP, while Haley Teel's 60-4.50 makes her 23rd A-T US!
At the Kerley Invite, Alyssa Wilson's WT of 75-4.75 makes her 15th A-T Collegiate, 16th A-T US, and 22nd A-T World!!
Mariya Lasitskene worked her HJ mojo yet again--clearing 6-8.75, making her 5th A-T World, tied with 2 others!
Leonardo Fabbri got Italy's National Record in the SP with his 70-10 in Sweden!
In Berlin, Malaika Mihambo went longer than she ever has, her 23-2.50 in the LJ making her 11th A-T World!

High Schooler Kyle Moon (??) sent the WT out 78-8.50, making him 17th A-T HS!
Mari Deavis (sp??) sent her SP out 51-10.25, making her 16th A-T HS!
Trey Knight reached 84-0 with his WT!

Finally, in an OUTdoor meet in Jamaica, Fedric Dacres had a DT of 228-7, no doubt the World Leader!

 The venerable Millrose Games remains this nation's (& the World's??) best Invitational INdoor T&F meet!
The 2020 version was no exception!

Leave it to one of the Wanamaker Mile's to lead the way!
Elle Purrier may have grown up on a rural farm, but she knows the ways of the city--in this case New York City!
She stomped on the American Record held for over 30 years by Mary Slaney, and left no doubt that her switch from farm to city is complete!
Her 4:16.85 took 3.2 seconds off Slaney's AR!
It's also a Meet Record, and makes her 2nd A-T World!!
She was actually behind Konstanze Klosterhalfen at the 1500 mark, so her 4:00.20 time there makes her 7th A-T World, and 2nd A-T US!
She gets the Age 24 Record for her 1500!

A deep field followed--
KK got the German National Record, and the Age 22 Record with her time of 4:17.26!!
She is 4th A-T World!
For her 3:59.89 at 1500, she gets her NR, and 6th A-T World!
She also gets the Meet Record for 1500!
(I believe it's VERY rare for one person getting the 1500 MR, another getting the Mile MR--in the same race!!)

A newcomer to the World scene (Was she known in the UK before Millrose??) is Jemma Reekie!
(LOVE that name!!)
Her 4:17.88 in 3rd gave her GB's National Record, and makes her 5th A-T World!
Her 1500 time of 4:00.56 is also a British NR, and makes her 12th A-T World!

Gabby Stafford continued being Canada's BIG star!
Her 4:00.80 and 4:19.73 are both NR's.
Her Mile makes her 8th A-T World--her 1500 makes her 14th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Nikki Hiltz's 4:24.45 in 5th makes her 9th A-T US!
Her 4:07.12 at 1500 makes her 13th A-T US!
Heather MacLean's 4:25.98 makes her 14th A-T US, while her 4:09.09 makes her 23rd A-T US!
And Dani Jones took 7th with her 4:27.88, making her 6th A-T Collegiate!
Her 4:10.11 at 1500 makes her 2nd A-T Collegiate!

Justyn Knight won the race in 7:46.36, but in 2nd came Joe Klecker, his 7:47.57 making him 19th A-T Collegiate!

Ajee Wilson broke her own INdoor 800 American Record with her 1:58.29!
It's also the Meet Record, and makes her 13th A-T World!

Ryan Crouser's SP sailed 72-9.25, giving him the Age 27 Record!
He beat Joe Kovacs's 70-0.25!

Donovan Brazier got ANOTHER American Record (!!) with his 800 of 1:44.22!
He JUST missed the Age 22 Record--by 0.01 seconds!!
But his negative splits of 53.04 and 51.18 makes him 5th A-T World!
Bryce Hoppel's 1:45.70 in 2nd makes him 6th A-T US!
Isaiah Harris's 1:46.01 makes him 12th A-T US!

Rai Benjamin sped a 300 in 32.35, getting the Meet Record, and making him 9th A-T World, and 6th A-T US!
Chris O'Hare took the Men's Wanamaker Mile in a pedestrian 3:55.61, beating Millrose Veteran Nick Willis, who timed a good 3:56.72--for being 36 years old!1
Allie Ostrander took the Women's 3000 in 8:48.94, making her 22nd A-T US!

Then we head to Europe--and MISTER SWEDEN--Mondo Duplantis!
He broke his National Record THREE times--the Age 20 Record THREE times, and got the World Record--once!
He lifted off (Literally!!) in Dusseldorf--his 19-8.25 there giving him his first set of Records!
That made him 6th A-T World, tied with 5 others!
Sam Kendricks ended way below at 19-0.25!

Then it was on to Torun, where he first cleared 19-5 (after a couple of bars in the 18's!), followed by his second set of Records at the height of 19-8.50!
Finally, he nailed the Ultimate--the World Record!!
His 20-2.75 beat Renaud Lavillenie's WR by a quarter inch!
Again--the NR, Age 20, and the WR!
(I know he holds several earlier Age Records, but MY Age Records begin at 17--and thus far, he holds the INdoor Age 17, 18, 19, and now Age 20 Records!!)

Sticking to the PV a bit, Sam Kendricks cleared 19-8.50 in a meet in France!
This makes him 7th A-T World--and 2nd A-T US!
A bit of explanation!!
The eTN stated that Jeff Hartwig's 19-9 INdoors in 2002 has NOT been ratified by USATF as the American Record!
I have no idea why!
I do honor that mark!
That explains why he gets "just" 2nd A-T US here!!

Robelys Peinado--and Venezuela!--have been breaking some Records recently!
In Ostrava, Tina Sutej won the PV with her 15-1.75!
But it was Peinado's 15-1.75 in 2nd that broke her National Record!
In France, Peinado went over 15-2.25 to break her own National Record!
But Holly Bradshaw took that event with her own 15-2.25!
Another Venezuela NR went down--to Triple Jump Queen Yulimar Rojas!
Her 49-3.75 also makes her 5th A-T World, tied with 1 other!

I'll bunch the other great marks together--
Garrett Scantling took the USATF Multi's Champ comp with a Heptathlon score of 6209.
It makes him 8th A-T US!
Annie Kunz improved to 4610 in the Pentathlon, also getting her 8th A-T US!
Emilya Dearman's 4451 makes her 15th A-T US!
And Shaina Burns scored 4375 for 18th A-T US!

Jenny Simpson won the Camel City 3000 in 8:51.99.
Raven Saunders took the SP there with 58-6.50!
Dan Haugh's WT in South Carolina went 81-0.50, making him 6th A-T World, and 5th A-T US!
It also gives him the Age 24 Record!

In Pennsylvania, Nia Akins ran 600 meters in 1:27.91, making her 10th A-T Collegiate!
V Tachinski's 1:29.04 makes her 24th A-T Collegiate!

Her time of 1:57.91 in the 800 took down one of Jenny Meadows's NR's!
It makes her 12th A-T World!
Laura Muir took 2nd (!!) in a PR of 1:58.44, making her 19th A-T World!

In Dusseldorf, Selaman Barega won the 3000 in 7:35.71--a PR!
Filip Miheljevic got the Croatia NR in the SP with his 70-7.25.
Beatrice Chepkoech got her own Kenya NR in the 1500 with her 4:02.09!.
It makes her 22nd A-T World!
Konrad Bukowiecki lobbed the SP 71-9.50 in Ostrava!
Tomas Stanek hit 71-8.75 in Torun!

Justyna Swiety-Ersetic's 51.37 got Poland's NR in the 400.
Gudef Tsegay's 4:00.69 took a quick 1500, making her 8th A-T World!
Hailu Lemlem got the Age 18 Record with her 2nd place time of 4:01.79.
It also makes her 20th A-T World!
Rababe Arafi took 3rd with her 4:02.46--and got the National Record of Morocco!
Maryna Romanchuk LJ'ed 22-10!

Before turning to High School results from Millrose, let's see what Jessica Hull ran OUTdoors in her native Australia!!
Her time over 5000 meters was 15:06.12--which I believe gives her the World OUTdoor lead as of early February!!

Lots of good HS stuff from the Armory!
Raheem Hayles sped 600 meters in 1:18.39, giving him 6th A-T HS!
Sean Dixon-Brodie TJ'ed a long 52-1.75, giving him 3rd A-T HS!
Tabitha Diggs improved to 37.67 in the 300, making her 8th A-T HS!
She beat the 37.76 of Isabelle Whitaker, she getting 9th A-T HS!

Monique Hardy's WT went out 66-11.25, making her 2nd A-T HS!!
Jasmine Jones sped the 60H in 8.12, giving her 7th A-T HS!
Taylor Ewert returned to Walking, her Mile winner timing 6:34.53.
Ho hum, Taylor!

Finally, Marlee Starliper took the HS Mile in 4:37.76, making her 4th A-T HS!
Her 1500 enroute time of 4:19.40 makes her 5th A-T HS there!
Juliette Whittaker took a far back 2nd in  4:43.89, making her 21st A-T HS!1

I've looked a bit ahead, and there's TONS more of INdoor material to go through before we turn to OUTdoors--and all that THAT entailed!!
So my plans to cover the ENTIRE INdoor season in maybe 2 or 3 posts has gone WAY down the tubes!!
