SEC leads Conferences Records Binge

Year after year--despite the abundance of great marks coming from other Conferences--the SEC always has the Most and the Best--and 2017 was just more of the same!!

Lindon Victor led off (Literally, as the SEC Decathlon jump-started the weekend!) by smashing his own Collegiate Record in the Dec with a huge score of 8539 points!
This added 67 points to his CR, and took care of the Senior Class, Grenada National, and the Meet Records--all previously his own!
But still he misses the World A-T list (Top 24 Performers) by 128 points!!
Most of the improvement came in the Pole Vault, where Victor under-performed in his previous CR earlier this year!
Karl Saluri had a good 2 days, scoring 7948 in 2nd!

The Women Heptathletes did good too!
Taliyah Brooks and Payton Stumbaugh ran, jumped, and threw into the 6000 Points Club, Brooks's 6099 beating Stumbaugh's 6023.
Brooks moves from 15th A-T Collegiate to 14th.
Stumbaugh enters the list in 23rd place!

Fred Kerley just keeps getting better--and faster!!
Needing only to win to gain automatic entrance to the final, Kerley the Elder (His younger brother is Mylik!!  And he has a sister who ran 54.48 in her Texas HS meet!) instead ran the heats of his 400 like he had Wayde Van Niekerk hard on his shoulder!!
His time of 44.09 simply amazed those who follow the sport closely--and reminded us of the pair who sped those 43.93's in the heats of the Beijing World Championships in 2015!!
What would Fred do for an encore?
(He took the final in 44.30!!)
Besides being the SEC Meet Record, Kerley moves into 2nd A-T Collegiate--all the way from 21st!!
Only Quincy Watts's 44.00 is faster, and many believe that CR has about a 3 week long life---until the NCAA Championships!!
He's 11th A-T US, tied with 2 others.
And he's 17th A-T World, also tied with 2 others!!

BTW, in that 400 final, Nathan Allen was 2nd in 44.52.
This Auburn Frosh broke the Frosh Class record!!
He's 13th A-T Collegiate!!
Akeem Bloomfield took 3rd in 44.81.

Christian Coleman had a spectacular INdoor season!
We all remember his storming a 20.11 around the tight banked track, thinking of what he might do on the gentler turn of the OUTdoor track!
Well, we found out at the SEC's!!

Coleman doubled, winning the 100 in 9.97, and the 200 in 19.98!!
Sources say this is the first time a Collegian broke the 10 & 20 second barriers in the same meet--legally, that is!
He had a wind of 0.6 in the 100, and he's now 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!
He misses the US list by just 0.03 seconds!!

Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake was 2nd, his 9.99 making him 20th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!!

In the 200, Coleman's time makes him 10th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Mitchell-Blake was again 2nd, this time in 20.09!

There's much more to report from the SEC, but let's turn to the Big 12 for a moment!
That's where Annie Rhodes was thrilled to finally clear 14-9 in the PV, a height she'd been chasing for 2 years!!
But she wasn't done!
The bar set at 4.61--or 15-1.50--Rhodes brushed the bar, but it stayed on, and she's suddenly 5th on the A-T Collegiate list, tied with 1 other.
When the meet began, she was 22nd, tied with 5 others!
Rhodes also gets the Big 12 Meet Record!!
BTW, she now has the top Collegiate mark in the nation!!
She's also 16th A-T US, tied with 2 others!!

Sydney Clute's Vault of 14-6.25 gives her the Big 10 Meet Record, breaking her own mark!!
The Weeks twins stuck to each other like glue (Again!!), with Lexi and Tori both clearing 14-7.25, then stopping without attempting anything higher!
Lexi got the win, and Desiree Freier was 3rd with her 14-4.

There's another pair of sisters--though not twins!--at Kansas State via Jamaica!!
Move over, Kellion Knibb!!
Knibb had broken the National Record of Jamaica in the DT earlier this season, leaving it at 203-7.
Well, Shadae Lawrence threw 205-4 to remove Knibb's name from the Record Book!!
It's also the Big 12 Meet Record, and makes her 10th A-T Collegiate!!

Younger sister Shardia Lawrence is a TJ'er, but an excessive wind prevented her mark of 45-3 from making my DDD!.
So suddenly Jamaica has TWO women in the DT worth watching!!

Shakima Wimbley led an attack on the Women's Collegiate 400 list!!
Her 50.40 winner at the ACC breaks her own ACC Meet Record!
She moves from 24th A-T Collegiate all the way up to 8th!!
She also took the 200 in 22.54, but it wasn't a PR!

Kendall Ellis won the PAC-12 meet with a 50.66.
It's the Meet Record, and makes her 19th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other.
Elexis Guster was 2nd in 51.32.

Ashley Henderson, who suddenly emerged in 2015 from San Diego State, had a great Mountain West Conference meet!
She sped a PR 100 of 11.05 (0.2), which makes her 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
She also took the 200--in 22.54, wind a negative 1.0!!
Her SD State 4X100 team (I'll assume she was the anchor!!) ran 42.99, moving them from 21st A-T School to 10th!!

The powerful Duck Woman sprinters got lots of points for their winning team!
Deajah Stevens ran the fastest low-altitude Collegiate 200 in history!!
Her 22.09 (1.5) gives her the Junior Class record!
It moves her from 9th A-T Collegiate to 2nd!
She's 13th A-T US, tied with 1 other.
And she of course gets the PAC-12 Meet Record!

USC's Deanna Hill was 2nd in 22.41, which makes her 23rd A-T Collegiate!
Hannah Cunliffe was 3rd in 22.60!

Stevens also won the 100, using a wind of 1.4 to time 11.05, a non-PR!
Ariana Washington's 11.10 edged Cunliffe's 11.11 for 2nd!

Emmanuel Korir is becoming Double Trouble over the 1 and 2 lap distances!!
While my Combined Events list of the 400 & 800 stops at the total time of 2:28.00, Korir's 44.53 winner at Conference USA, when added to his 1:43.73 800, gives him a total time of 2:28.26!!
It also makes him 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!!

I saw a bunch of GREAT sprint times in the various Conferences---BUT they had too much wind--a few WAY too much--for me to report them!!  Sorry!
However, I do have more good marks to report.

Ioannis Kyriazis is making a habit of taking one JT, then passing his 5 other attempts!!
He did just that at the SEC, his winning (and Meet Record breaking!!) throw measuring 262-11 coming in Round 1.

Brian Williams's DT of 213-8 won at SEC, but missed the Meet Record by 1 inch, a record dating from 1985!!
But he's now 16th A-T Collegiate!

Rebekah Wales improved her JT best to 191-0, moving her from 18th A-T Collegiate to 13th!
She also moves from 18th A-T US to 14th!
This was at the SEC!

Bri Ilarda, of Providence, ran the 3000SC in 9:56.33, breaking the Big East Meet Record!
Irena Sediva broke her own ACC Meet Record with her JT winner of 192-6!
Gleb Dudorev's 243-5 Hammer Throw PR at the Big 12 makes him 19th A-T Collegiate!!
Jessica Woodard joined the 60 foot SP Club, her 60-3 winner at the Big 12 making her 11th A-T Collegiate!
She's a Junior at Oklahoma!!

Some decent Relays action to report!
Texas A&M's Men's 4X400 timed 3:00.72 to defeat Auburn's 3:02.10 at the SEC!
This makes Auburn School Number 20 on the A-T Collegiate list, tied with 1 other!!

LSU took both gender's short Relays at SEC!.
The Men ran 38.71, while the Women sped 42.56, which is the new Meet Record!!

A couple of Women's 4X400 Relay Meet Records fell.
Miami's time was 3:29.99 in beating their own MR at the ACC.
USC's Trojams beat the Ducks at the PAC-12, their 3:29.52 getting that Meet Record!

Other marks included--
Kristin Hixson PV'ed 14-9.
Quanesha Burks  LJ'ed a non-PR of 22-4.50 to take the SEC event!
Sha'Keela Saunders's 22-1.75 in 2nd tied her 2015 PR!
Devon Williams--and sister Kendell--stayed away from the Multi's, but performed well in the short hurdles!
Kendell's 12.92 took 2nd to Jasmine Camacho-Quinn's 12.81, with a 1.0 wind.
Devon ran 13.37 over the 110's (0.2), but missed my Collegiate DDD by 0.01 seconds!!
Kayla Hinton's 5869 score in the Big 12 Heptathlon was a solid PR!
Danniel Thomas threw the Discus 194-7 to win at the MAC!
Keturah Orji was seen texting her friends while winning the SEC Triple Jump with a--yawn!--45-9.25 effort!
Maggie Ewen was another yawner, winning the PAC-12 HT with a now-below average mark of 230-4!!
BUT--it's the new PAC-12 Meet Record!!
Kaycee Pilgrim took the Mountain West HJ with her 6-2.75!

Raevyn Rogers easily defeated a good PAC-12 800 field, her 2:02 and change taking care of business by 3 seconds!!
Jasmine Fray's 2:02.00 took the SEC race!
So did Devin Dixon's 1:45.71, as he beat Andres Arroyo's 1:46.14.
The ACC 800 was won by Hanna Green's non-PR time of 2:01.28!
However, it's the new Meet Record!!

Aleia Hobbs's 11.12 beat Janelle Smith's 11.13 to win the SEC 100.
Michael Norman is back in business!
His slight PR of 45.15 was enough to beat Oregon's Marcus Chambers at the PAC-12!
Jaylen Bacon---er, took home the bacon!!--winning the Sun Belt 100 in 10.00, needing the max 2.0 wind to do so!!
He's 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
He also won the 200 in 20.35 (1.9)!!
I said I wouldn't mention all the good windy times--but one had the minimal excess wind of 2.1, and is worth mentioning!
Elijah Hall sped the 200 at the American Outdoor Conference in 19.96!!
With just that 2.1 wind, he looks to be the next sub-20 guy--or at least potentially so!!
He ran the heat in 10.11, with a 1.9 wind!

Mitch Cooper's DT of 209-11 broke the Big 12 Meet Record!
MJ Erb's 5000 of 13:47.64 set the SEC Meet Record!!
Karissa Schweizer took the Women's race in 15:51.76.
Chrisann Gordon won the Big 12 meet 400 in 51.71.
Kemar Mowatt's 48.79 took the SEC 400H from Eric Futch's 48.82.
Bailey Roth won the PAC-12 3000SC in 8:39.83.
Finally, Candace Hill had another decent double--winning the 100 in 11.37 (-0.4) and 200 in 22.80 (1.4)!!

The "mystery" of Raven Saunders MIGHT be solved!!
Well, part of it!!
According to Garry Hill, some group (or something!) called CPS told him that Raven is scheduled to compete at the Regional meet!!
But no reason for her DNS's at the SEC was given!!
Nor has she answered my PM, or been seen at all on Twitter!
(She's normally fairly active there!!)

As for Elise Cranny not competing in the PAC-12, who knows!!

I'm going to close with a note of tragedy!!
Do you remember George Kersh??
He held the High School Record in the 800 (1:46.58) for about 10 years in the 80's & 90's!
He wound up with a PR of 1:44.00!
Well, his 22 year old daughter--Kaelin--was killed in a car accident (by a Highway Patrol car!!!) recently!
She was 22, a track star, and had just graduated from college!!
My condolences to George and the entire Kersh family!!
This should NOT happen!!
