Steve would go "DUDE!"

VERY late with this report!
My eyesight is getting worse, becoming more difficult to see results, or even my own Record Book scribblings!
That said, this is a truncated report, going in order of my notes!
The title comes because I'm sure Steve Prefontaine, the Pre Classic's namesake, surely would have been proud of the distance races there!!
Not forgetting to remind you the meet was at Stanford, not in Eugene!!

Rai Benjamin destoyed the 400H field with his 47.16 best as an American athlete!
Combined with his 44.31 for the flat 400, his 1:31.47 makes him 2nd US Combined Events!
Also the Meet Record and Age 21 Record! He's 3rd A-T US!!

Beatrice Chepkoech was close to WR pace for the first K, but slowed to "just" 8:55.51.
New MR.
Emma Coburn fell hard during the race, but got back yp and moved to race speed fairly fast!
But she lost maybe 4 seconfs, so her 9:04.42 was good!
Hyvin Jepkemoi took 3rd in 9:05.81
Courtney Frerichs and Colleen Quigley ended 5th & 7th, times of 9:09 and 9:11.
Allie Ostrander ran a 6 second PR of 9:31.44, making her 19th A-T US!

The Women's 100 featured Sha'Carri Richardson and SAFP, but the newbie Pro ended 4th in 11.15, and the Super Vet was LAST in 11.39!!
A blip??
BTW, Marie Josee Ta Lou and Aleia Hobbs eneded 1-2, times over 11 seconds!

The Men's Two Mile was won by Josh Cheptegai's 8:07.54!
He barely beat Paul Chelimo's 8:07.59!!
This makes Chelimo 3rd A-T US!
Selem0on Barega was 3rd in 8:08.60!
Ge's 11th A-T World, and gets the Age 19 Record!
Six Guys ended between 8:15 & 8:19, among them Mo Ahmed and Justyn Knight!

Eric Jenkins ran 8L22.27, making him 18th A-T US!

Liljao Gong's 64-11 tookk the Women's SP over the 63's of Danielle Thomas-Dodd and Chhase Ealey!

Orlando Ortega and Michael Norman won their specialties, but the times were too slow to mention!!

The WOMEN's 800 saw a US sweep!!
Ajee Wilson beat Raevyn Rogers and a slightly surprising Hanna Green!
Ajee ran 1:58.31, while Green ran her initial sub-2---1:58.75!!

Then came THE race of the meet!!
After a 4:13 first 1500, Sifan Hassan sped a 4:05-ish to run 8:18.49!!
This was the first OUTdoor sub-8:20 since the Chinese invasion of the 90's!!
She gets the Netherlands National Record, the Pre MR, and the Age 26 Record!!

Konstanze Klosterhalfen was brilliant in 2nd, her 8:20.07 destroying the NR of Germany!!
Hassan's C-E times of 3:55.93 and 8:18.49 adds to 12:14.44!
Sorry I don't have her place there!

Who got the NR of Ethiopia??
Letesenbet Gidey!!
Her 8:20.27 beat Genzebe Dibaba's 8:21.29!!
But G-D gets the Age 28 Record!

Fifth was GB's Laura Wightman's 8:26.07!
This makes her 2nd A-T GB, behind only Marathoner Paula Radcliffe---but ahead of Laura Muir!!

Helen Obiri and Agnes Tirop ran in the 8:27's!
Karissa Schweizer's 8:42.15 was a PR for the new Pro!

A bit of a shock came from recent Oregon Duck grad Jessica Hull!!
She'd begun the year barely sub-4:10, then ran 4:06 at the NCAA's!
But she dropped her PR to 4:02.62 here!!
Kate Grace improved to 4:02.99, making her 18th A-T US!

Christian Coleman impressed with his 9.81 winner in the 100!
But impressing even more was Justin Gatlin, whose 9.87 gets him the Age 37 Record!

Mariya Lasitskene was her usualbrilliant self, winning the HJ with her 6-8.25!
But Vashti Cunningham had an ON day, hitting 2 meters for the first time!

Removed FROM my US list was Marty Liquori, his 3:52.2 dating from the year of Pre's death, 1975!!
