One Week Makes Big Difference

During the six months that constitute what Americans consider their OUTdoor season, one week (out of about 26) can indeed make a big difference!
But a "week" isn't always 7 days from our POV, it's normally 3 or 4 out of seven!!
Thus my being LATE in reporting shouldn't interfere with NEXT week's report!!
Sorry for the lateness!!
The Gotzis Multis topped the week (sic!), but surprisingly, those thingies called the "NCAA Regioonals" produced tts share of quality marks--and some from a few unknowns!!

Katerina Johnson-Thompson and Damian Warner dominated good fields at Gotzis!
KJT scored a PR of 54 points, her 6813 total winning by close to 340 points over Laura Ikauniece's 6476!!
For KJT--who ran her 800 in splits of 59 & 69!--it makes her 19th A-T World!

The two American stars did well,.
Kendell Williams scored 6412 in 5th, with Erica Bougard's 6374 giving her 6th!
Warner's winner was 8711, but his 1st event--the 100 meters--took just 10.12 seconds!
That's Record for a Decathlon!!
Lindon Victor took the Silver with 8472 points!
Maicel Uibo scored 8353 points!!

That abomination called the NCAA Regionals is actually the "prelims & qualifying" day (or days!) for the main program happening in June!!
Whatever the reason, and whatever they call it, the athletes are our main concern here!!
And several of them came through!
(Except in the vertical jumps, where they're limited to just the Q height, so aren't really tested, or really competing!!

Also, I'm not caring whether it's the East or West regional!!
It's just the NCAA whatever!!
So I'm going to treat it as such, and combine my results into event categories--East & West, as well as Men & Women--combined!!

100, 200, 400
Jaron Flournoy--unknown to me!--ran a 200 in 20.09, missing my Collegiate DDD by 0.04 seconds!
He also ran the 100 in 10.24!
Trevor Stewart continued his fine season with a 400 of 44.55--just a sliver off his PR!
He also ran 44.77!

Andrew Hudson sprinted the half lap in 20.04, making him 23rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Cravon Gillespie, the new Ducks star, had a couple of quickie hundreds--10.01 and 10.03!!

Sha'Carri Richardson and Teahna Daniels each ran 100's of 10.99!!
This makes them 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others, including each other!!
For Richardson, it also ties the Frosh Class Record!!

Another of those unknowns--Cambrea Sturgis--sped the 200 in 22.52!1
She's a Frosh at Oklahoma State!!
But it was Anya Annabail )sp??) who produced the most cause and effect!!
Her 22.36 was not only the Collegiate Leader, but it sent OFF my Collegiate list two VERY prominent names!!
GONE are Flojo (Florence Griffith-Joyner), her 22.39 dating from 1982!!
Also OUT is Sydney McLaughlin, her 22.39 dating from her only Collegiate season--2018!!
BTW, this makes Annabail 21st A-T Collegiate!!

Let's move to the Distances!
800, 1500, 5000, 3000SC
Notice I didn't include the 10000 here!
That's because the times were too slow!
Think in the 33's for the Women, and barely in the 28's for the Men!
YUK!!

Jasmine Fray had the fastest 800--2:02.27!

Ever hear of Sinclaire Johnson?/
Good, because neither had I!!
But she had the fastest 1500 time of all--4:09.50!!
She's from Oklahoma State, and her time makes her 15th A-T Collegiate!
She beat Jessica Hull's  4:09.90!
Third was Tanya Rawlings's 4:10.20!!

The SC for the Women was fast also!
Allie Ostrander's 9:40.05 wasn't a PR, but Erica Birk's 9:42.54 makes her 16th A-T Collegiate!

Adva Cohen's 9:44.41 makes her 23rd A-T Collegiate!!

Ostrander also took the 5000 in 15:30 and chanage!1

Hurdles
Grant Holloway comtinued strong in the 110's--running 13.10 and  and 13.19!
Daniel Roberts also was good, hitting 13.13!!
Quincy Hall had the best one lapper--48.54!!, making him 22nd A-T Collegiate!1

Field Events & Relays
The Purdue Men's 4X100 squad improved to 38.75, making them  21st A-T School!!

Gleb Dudarev's 243-5 led the Hammer Throwers!
Tripp Piperi's 68-4.25 SP beat a pair of SuperStars--Jordan Geist and Payton Otterdahl!

Abigail (NOT Alyssa!!) Wilson's DT of 200.2 makes her 20th A-T Collegiate!!
Even better was Laulaga Tausaga!

Her 205-8 DT  makes her 12th A-T Collegiate!!

One more mystery athlete!1
Eldred Henry is sudden;y a 70 foot SP man!!
His 70-5.25 not only makes him 13th A-T Collegiate, but gives him the National Record of the British Virgin Islands!!

That does it for those Collegiates, but HARK, what do we hear but the rest of the World waking up!!
Well, SOME of it!!

Anita Wlodarczyk's 241-7 HT opener didn't win, but at least we know she's still alive!!
Beating the Master were Zhang Wang's 246-11, and DeAnna Price's 243-5!

Brittney Reese's three longest LJ's were  either 22-11.75 or 23-0!
BUT--they were all windy!!
Her best legal jump was in the low 22's!!
But SHE is back!!

Filip Miheljevic had a SP measuring 71-8, giving him the National Record of Croatia!

Another Super Veterean opened up with a good one!
Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce dipped under 11 seconds with her 10.97 win !in Jamaica!

Pawel Fajdek ipened his 2019 campaign with a solid HT of 262-6!!
Magnious Kirt threw the Javelin 293-1, the World Leader!

But Andreas Hofmann did him one better, his JT reaching 294-4!1

Nikola Ogrodnikove threw the Javelin 221-1, making her 16th A-T World!

Denia Caballero had a DT of 224-7!
(Sandra Perkovic will be opening her season this coming weekend at the Stockholm DL!!)

Christian Taylor TJ of 57-3.25 edged Omar Craddock's 57-2!!

Elaine Thompson improved her season's best in the 200 to 22.40!
But more interesting was the 2nd placer--one Salwa Naser!1
Her time of 22.56 is the National Record of Bahrain!!

Gudaf Tsegay became the first Woman to go sub-4 this year, her time being 3:59.57!

She beat Axumawat Embaye's PR of 4:00.17!!
Alexa Efraimson finished far back, but her 4:04.06 is still the US Leader!!

A good Women's SP saw Liljao Gong produce the World Leading mark of 66-1.50!!
Danielle Thomas-Dodd and Chase Ealey both reached 63-0.25 in 2nd and 3rd!!

The 50000 meter Walk saw some good marks!!

The ageless Yohan Deniz sped the 31.1 mile distance in 3:37:43!!

The Women's race saw a pair of National Records!
Eleanore Gonza's 4:04:50 is the NR of Italy!
Julia  Taddus (sp?) Walked 4:05:46 for the National Record of Spain!!

Several states are holding their HS State Championships, so we have a few good marks to report!!

Clarence Foote-Talley TJ'ed 51-1.50 for the HSL!

Dana Roberson's 218-4 DT ranks him 7th A-T HS!!

Chloe Cunliffe tried 3 times at 14-6 in the PV, but missed all three!
Her topper was a measly (LOL) 14-0!!

A GREAT set of times in the "metric mile"--aka the 1600!!
Taryn Parks's 4:37.07 edged out Marlee Starliper's 4:37.45!
Too bad they couldn't have measured out the full Mile!!

Finally, Katelyn Tuohy had a good triple in her County meet!
Times of 2:12 in the 800, 4:25 in the 1500, and 9:55 in the 3K!!

As noted, the Stockholm meet is tomorrow!!

Besides Perkovic's opener (See above!), we have a super Men's flat 400--Rai Benjamin vs Michael Norman!!

See you soon!
