Yes, it's still just April!

 The 2021 season is already challenging the whole 2020 season for top-end quality, and depth!
Yet, as i type this, it's still just April!
Loaded with mid season marks, this past week was exciting!

Keturah Orji has been at the top of the Triple Jump game since High School, and it culminated in her reclaiming the American Record from Tori Franklin with a World Class mark of 48-11.50!
She missed the World list by just 3 inches, but this was a World Leader!
Her Combined Events total for the LJ & TJ (OUTdoor marks only!) is 71-4 (22-4.50 & 48-11.50).
This makes her Number One on the US list!

Rudy Winkler led a fairly deep group of American Men in the Hammer Throw, coming within two feet of the American Record!
His 268-11 was a humongous PR by the 26 year old!
He misses the World list by 2 feet!
He is 2nd A-T US, behind just Lance Deal's 270-9 AR!
Denzel Comenentia was 2nd with 251-8.
In 3rd came Daniel Haugh, his 250-10 making him 13th A-T US!
Brock Eager was 4th with 248-7, which ranks him 17th A-T US!
Sean Donnelly followed in 5th with a non-PR of 248-4!
This was at the USATF Grand Prix meet in the new Hayward Field!

Also in Eugene, Shaunae Miller-Uibo ran the fastest pre-May 400 with her solo 49.08!
Lynna Irby, though well beaten, ran a solid time of 50.28!
Laura Muir ignored the rabbit and took off to a 61 second first lap of the 1500.
She slowed, but her 4:01.54 is fast for this time of year, especially considering how she ran it!
Helen Schlactenhaufen was 2nd in 4:04.36!
Cory McGee was next in 4:05.00!
Sage Hurta became top Collegiate with her 8th place time of 4:08.38!
This makes her 11th A-T Collegiate!
Jenny Simpson ran just 4:10.07, but termed it her "rust buster"!

The World Lead in the 3000SC was taken over by unknown Isaac Updike at the USATF meet!
His 8:17.74 makes him 20th A-T US!
He was closely followed by Mason Ferlic's 8:18.49!
This makes him 22nd A-T US!

The Drake Relays 5000 started off a surge of speedy 5K running by the young set of American Men!
The win went to Australian Morgan McDonald in 13:21.39!
But in 3rd came Nico Young, whose 13:24.25 is said to be the American Junior Record (which this blog pays no attention to!)!
He misses the Collegiate DDD by a mere 0.01 seconds!!

Then at the Eugene meet, that mark was smashed to pieces by Cole Hocker!
(The USATF meet was held in conjunction with the Oregon Relays, and that was the meet where this race took place!)
Already having made the cover of Track and Field News, Hocker's 13:19.98 was actually somewhat disappointing to him, as he'd wanted the Olympic Q time of 13:13!!
The Oregon Frosh is 14th A-T Collegiate!
Cooper Teare was close behind with his 13:20.24!
This is the Junior Class Record!
Edwin Kurgat was 3rd in 13:20.48, making him 17th A-T Collegiate!
Also in the mix was Wes Kiptoo's 4th place time of 13:21.02!
This ranks him 20th A-T Collegiate!!
The Drake and Eugene races took place just hours apart!!

Johannes Vetter opened back up the Javelin Throw's 300 footer club with his 300-2 throw!
This was in Germany!

The Men's Pole Vault saw some big names performing like they should!
At Drake, Sam Kendricks broke his own Meet Record with a clearance of 19-2.75!
Chris Nilsen was 2nd with 19-0.25!
But KC Lightfoot, who had just turned Pro, made a horrible Pro debut by No Heighting (along with Andrew Irwin!)!!
Then in Louisiana, Mondo Duplantis became the World Leader with his 19-4.25!

JuVaughn Harrison is proving he's the real thing!
He LJ'ed 27-8.25 in the same Louisiana meet, making him 4th A-T Collegiate!
He's also 20th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
A meet in Chula Vista CA saw Harrison Williams soar to a Decathlon score of 8439 points!
This makes him 12th A-T US!!
The Women's 23 foot Club in the LJ continues to produce!
Chantel Malone won Chula Vista with a leap of 23-1.75!
She had a wind-aided mark of 23-3.50!
Britney Reese is back!
She had a windy mark of 23-1.75, although her best legal mark was 22-1.50!

Alison Dos Santos of Brazil took over the World Lead in the 400H with his Drake Meet Record time of 48.15!
The Men's flat 400 saw some solid action in both Oregon and Louisiana!
Michael Norman met his former USC teammate Rai Benjamin in Eugene, with Norman prevailing, 44.67 to 44.98!
Then down south, we saw Noah Williams shock with his World Leading 44.30!
This makes him 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
He misses the US list by 0.03 seconds!!
Bryce Deadmon's 44.58 in 2nd misses the Collegiate list by the same 0.03 seconds!

A showdown of America's top Women in the Hammer Throw saw Brooke Andersen's 255-10 prevail over DeAnna Price's 249-10!
Janae Kassanavoid was far back in 3rd with her 238-10.
Erin Reese connected with a throw of 237-1 in 4th, making her 14th A-T US!

Aleia Hobbs sped a World Leading 100 of 10.91 in Louisiana!
In 2nd came Tamara Clark's 10.96!
She is now 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
Mikiah Brisco and Symone Mason followed in 3rd and 4th with times of 11.02!
The USATF meet saw Jasmine Camacho-Quinn win the 100H in 12.46!
Back in 4th came Sydney McLaughlin with yet another PR!
Her 12.87 improves her Combined Events total for the 100H and 400H to 65:07 (12.87 & 52.20).
She leads the World and US lists in this!

There is so much else to report from just this past week that I'm forced (for space reasons) to group them as I often do by events!
It's less sexy, but I want to report as much as I need to in this post!

The Sprints (everything up to 400 meters)
Drake's 100H saw Cindy Sember (formerly Ofili) speed a 12.57!
She needed all of it to defeat Christine Clemons, who ran 12.59!
Way back was Super Veteran Dawn Harper-Nelson, who finished in 13.28!
Gianna Woodruff ran the World Leading time of 55.02 over 400H!
This is also Panama's National Record!!

Trayvon Bromell sprinted the 100 twice in 10.01 (heat & final) in Eugene!
Jereem Richards took the 200 there in 20.26!
Blessing Okagbare ran 10.97 to win the Women's 100!
It was windy in Louisiana, but still impressive was Terrance Laird's time of 19.82 in the 200!
Wind was 2.4!
Wind was legal for Robert Dunning's surprise 110H time of 13.28!
This makes him 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
Sean Burrell, a Frosh at LSU, ran the 400H in 49.12!

The wind was too strong (2.6), but still impressive was Tonea Marshall's 100H time of 12.53!
Tara Davis was close in 12.61.
In Florida, unknown Raynish Jones ran the 100H in 12.73!
She misses the Collegiate list by a measly 0.03 seconds!
She competes for UCF!
I haven't seen her name in awhile--at least since 2019--but Dior Hall is back, running the 100H in 13.17 in Arizona!
Akani Simbine sped a 100 in 9.99 in Australia!
He also recently ran 9.82, but with a 2.8 wind!

In Relays, Drake saw North Carolina A&T time 3:02.14 in the 4X400!
In Louisiana, Canada's 4X100 team won over LSU, 38.49 to 38.58!
LSU won the Men's 4X400 with a solid 3:01.85, anchored by Sean Burrell's split of 44.24!
LSU won the Women's 4X100 with 42.70!
Texas A&M took the Women's 4X400 in 3:27.16, assisted to the max by Athing Mu's anchor of 49.87!
The young lady is a BEAST!!
LSU finished 2nd in a good 3:29.01.

Distances (800 to whatever!)
The Drake Road miles (which finish on the track!) went to Eric Avila's 3:59.0 and Rachel Schneider's 4:30.03!
Craig Engels took 2nd in 3:59.3, while Shannon Osika was Silver in the Women's event with 4:31.3!
A familiar name in Road miles (She was once called the Queen of the Road Mile!!) returned, Heather Kampf's 4:33.2 taking 3rd!

In the track 1500, Josette Norris PR'ed in 4:06.17 for the win!
Second went to Schneider's 4:06.51!
Leah Falland (the former Leah O'Connor) took the American 3000SC lead with her 9:32.53 win over a good field!
It's the Drake Meet Record!
Gabrielle Jennings ran 9:43.48, making the Furman runner 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
G Murphy ran 9:37.25, making her 23rd A-T US!
Dan Michalski took the Men's 3000SC in 8:29.83!

The USATF Men's 1500 saw HS phenom Hobbs Kessler finish just 6th against a field of Professionals!
But his time of 3:40.46 (56 last lap!) makes him 3rd A-T HS, behind just Alan Webb and Jim Ryun (who just turned 74!!).
Winner was Ollie Hoare in 3:33.54!!
Justyn Knight was 2nd in 3:35.85!
Then came Donavan Brazier in 3:37.58!
Classy company for the young Kessler!!

Eilish McColgan continued her hot season by winning Drake's 5000 in 14:52.94!
Abby Cooper (formerly D'Agostino) showed some of her old stuff, ending 2nd in 15:13.27!
Patrick Dever took a 5000 in Arkansas in 13:28.08!
Shamier Little expanded her repertoire a bit, taking the Arkansas 800 in 2:04.39!
Her splits were rookie style 57 and 67!!
Mercy Chelangat took Arkansas's Women's 5000 in 15:17.79!
This makes her 10th A-T Collegiate!
The Arizona meet saw Sabrina Southerland return to elite racing with a solid 800 of 2:00.76!

Australia's National Championships saw Jye Edwards beat Stew McSweyn in the 1500, 3:33.99 to 3:34.55!
It was a 3200 (UGH!), but Mia Barnett impressed with her 9:52.23 HS time!
Also on the HS front, Juliette Whittaker ran a 1500 in 4:19.79!
Charlotte Bednar became the 9th HS'er to run a sub-16 5000 OUTdoors!
Her 15:52.10 rates her 5th A-T HS!!
(This might be the place to tell you I've become a FanBoy of Cait Chock on Twitter and other social media!  Who is Cait Chock?  Her 15:52.88 from 2004 still ranks 6th A-T HS!!  Back then, it was the HSR!  After a very bad accident, she can still run, but not fast!  So, she became a comedian and artist, and is becoming fairly popular in SoCal comic circles!!  She's very talented, but it's really sad she was taken away from her deep passion for running fast!  Check out her website!)

In the Distance Relay department, we have Iowa State's 4X800 at Drake!
Their 7:12.57 (very evenly paced!) rates 5th A-T School, although I don't have a list for that event in my Record Book!

Jumps (Vertical and Horizontal)
Drake saw Sandi Morris win the PV with 15-5 over Katie Nageotte's 15-1.
Jenn Suhr was listed as entered, but didn't compete!
Donald Scott won the USATF Triple Jump with 55-5!
In 3rd came Christian Taylor with a mark of 54-2.50!
He's coming along, but slowly!
Tori Franklin won the Women's TJ with her 46-3.25!

In Louisiana, Deborah Acquah LJ'ed 22-4.25!
This is Ghana's NR!!
It also makes her 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!
Taken OFF my Collegiate DDD was one Marion Jones, whose 22-1.75 dated from her "innocent" days of 1994!!

Chris Benard took the Chula Vista TJ with his 56-3.25!
Kat Stefanidi took the Chula Vista PV with 15-1.
Nicole McDermott won the Australia Championships HJ with 2021's first 2.00 jump (6-6.75).
And she became Australia's NR holder in the process!!
Nina Kennedy took the PV Down Under with a good 15-7!

And then we come to the High School Women!!
And boy (Pardon!), have they ever been better?!
Chloe Timberg cleared 14-2.50!
This makes her 10th A-T HS!
Kenna Stimmel went over 14-0!
This makes her 14th A-T HS, tied with 6 others!
She also cleared (in a separate meet) 14-1.
This moved her to 12th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
(BTW, it's almost to the point where you need a 14 footer just to make my HS OUTdoor list!!  The bottom mark is now 13-11.25, as 21 Women have marks of 14-0 or higher!)
Olivia Lueking tied her PR of 14-3, while Amanda Moll cleared 14-0, but it wasn't a PR!
Whew!!

Throws and Multi's
Ryan Crouser took Drake's SP with a measly 71-11.50!
Well, measly for HIM!!
Chase Ealey took the USATF Women's SP with her 62-1.25!
Monique Hardy is far from making lists, but she  PR'ed in the HT with a 214-11.
She a Frosh at LSU!
Also an LSU Frosh is Emma Robbins, who ended just 4 inches behind her teammate with 214-7!
Kylee Carter won the JT with a solid 199-1 in Louisiana.
This makes her 6th A-T Collegiate, and 8th A-T US!!

Darrell Hill took the Chula Vista SP with a good 71-4.25!
Rachel Dincoff had a Discus Throw of 203-5.
This ranks her 22nd A-T US!
(Kelsey Card was a couple of feet back!)
Riley Cooks took the Heptathlon with 6160 points!

Adelaide Aquilla won the SP in Illinois with 60-0.25!
This makes the Ohio State Junior 18th A-T Collegiate!
Gwen Berry showed she shouldn't be forgotten with a HT of 240-0 in Texas!

The Aussie Champs meet saw a good Decathlon!
Ash Moloney's 8284 topped Cedric Dubler's 8175!
Finally, Ashlyn Giles threw the Shot Put 52-11, ranking her 16th A-T HS!!

Well, more exciting action has already begun for this weekend!

The Week (the Year??) of the Teenager

 Things are starting to brew on the Global front, with the Drake Relays and the USATF Grand Prix (held alongside the Oregon Relays) advertising fantastic fields in many events for this weekend!
Weather permitting----!!
But this past week easily belonged to the teenage crowd!
And I'm not talking about US HS'ers!!

Ever hear of Christian Mboma or Beatrice Masilinga before, say 10 days ago?
Neither had I!
Then suddenly the whole World heard of a race in Namibia where Mboma ran and won the 400 in 49.24, with Masilinga 2nd in 49.53!
Add to that startling news the fact that Mboma wouldn't be 18 until May 22, and Masilinga was celebrating her 18th birthday the day of the race!
Forget the altitude, or the fact it was an All Comers meet!!
Mboma got Namibia's National Record, and the Age 17 Record!
The time ranks her 19th A-T World!
Masilinga gets the Age 18 Record!
But that doesn't end it!
Mboma improved 0.02 seconds--to 49.22--a few days later at Namibia's National Championships!
She added an 800 in 2:03.57--a 5 second PR!
Masilinga added an NR in the 200 of 22.72!

Then there was a rather famous American Teenager who also performed spectacularly!!
You have heard of her--Ms Athing Mu!
She's an 18 year old Freshman at Texas A&M!
And she simply DESTROYED the OUTdoor Collegiate Record in the 800, just as she did with the INdoor 800 CR!

Her time of 1:57.73 reduced Raevyn Rogers's old record by 1.37 seconds!
Get this--her splits were about 60.0 and then 57.73 for her second lap!
Very few have ever run the 800 with negative splits that far apart--unless they ran the first lap in a jog!!
She gets the CR and the Frosh Class Record!
Second was Aaliyah Miller, whose 2:00.87 rates her 17th A-T Collegiate!
For Mu, she ranks 10th A-T US!!

There have been big marks in the past coming from the under 20 crowd!
But in 10 days or less, we saw the Ages 17 & 18 Records being crushed in the 400, and the Collegiate Record being beaten to a pulp by someone also 18!
Maybe back 55 or 56 years ago--when Gerry Lindgren and Jim Ryun were teens have we seen more than one Teenager perform as Mu, Masilinga, and Mboma did recently!~
Hmmm....interesting that all three last names begin with an "M"!
Maybe for MAGNIFICENT??

Well, let's see what the older crowd did last week!
The key meet was the Jones Memorial in Florida!
There, Justin Gatlin tied his Age 39 Record in the 100 by beating the 9.99 of Andre De Grasse with his 9.98!
In a separate race, JuVaughn Martin suddenly sprinted the 100 in 9.94.
As with the Namibians, no one had heard of him!
Maybe because his previous PR was a measly 10.40--although he did run a windy 10.17 also!
Still, a massive improvement!
It rates him 13th A-T Collegiate, as he's a Soph at Florida State!

The Hurdle races were the highlight!
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn (whom I call JCQ in this blog!) broke her own National Record of Puerto Rico with a brilliant 12.32!
This ranks her 7th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Her heat was run in 12.56!
Then Grant Holloway took the 110H in a World Leading 13.07!
(His heat was in 13.17!)
Trey Cunningham was far back in 13.28, but his PR time ranks him 13th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!

Other solid Jones Memorial results--
Steven Gardiner took the 400 in 44.71!
Sha'Carri Richardson took her 200 in 22.11!
Thomas Mardel PR'ed in the HT with his 249-11.
This makes him 11th A-T Collegiate!
An Adidas team won the 4 X 400 Relay in a quick 3:00.75!
I don't know their splits, but Teen Erriyan Knighten and Holloway ran the last two legs!

Kaylin Whitney didn't win her 400 (Jessica Beard did in 51.00), but Whitney's 51.04 was a PR in 2nd!
Fred Kerley took the 200 in 20.24.
Another race saw Kentucky Frosh Lance Lang win in 20.39!
He beat Matt Boling's 20.43!
A famous Triple Jumper also performed there by the name of Christian Taylor!
But his mark was just 53-1.50!

Amber Tanner improved by a bit in winning the 800 in 2:01.36!
She beat Gabby Wilkinson's 2:01.45, another PR!
They're both Collegians!
Maudie Styring won the 1500 in 4:11.43.
She's a Florida State Junior from Australia!
Krissy Gear ran a good 3000SC, time of 9:45.10.
And Michelle Atherley took the Heptathlon with 6100 points!

The Hammer Throw continues to produce in 2021.
Rudy Winkler threw his out 255-6 in New York.
Janae Kassanavoid improved her mark to 244-0, making her 7th A-T US!
And Trey Knight added about 7 feet to his PR with a good 226-9 in California!

Sydney McLaughlin showed up at the Brian Clay meet in Azuza CA.
In her heats, she jogged a 400 in 51.16, then ran  12.92 for the 100H!
For my World and US Combined Events lists for the 100H and 400H, her times of 12.92 and 52.20 adds to 65.12.
She now ranks number ONE for both the World and US!
Candice Hill ran her fastest 100 since 2016, time of 11.13!
And Nick Ponzio took the SP with 69-9.25!

Good field event marks happened in Eugene last week!
Turner Washington improved his DT to 217-5!
He ranks 7th A-T Collegiate!
Add Camryn Rogers's name to the above HT list---
She threw her implement 239-9, making her 3rd A-T Collegiate!
Alyssa Wilson was 2nd with a good 228-3!
Samantha Noennig had a small Shot Put PR of 59-7.50!
She's 20th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Hannah Steelman, who is quietly having a pretty fair season so far, won a 5000 in 15:30.87!
Katelyn Tuohy took 3rd in 15:47.58!
Joyce Kimeli took the Collegiate lead in the 3000SC with her 9:37.97!
She ranks 8th A-T Collegiate!
Skylar Ciccolini was the premier JT'er in the 2019 HS season!
(Remember, there wasn't a HS season in 2020!!)
Anyway, she threw her spear a good 183-9!
She's a Frosh at Missouri!

Now let's move across the oceans!!
The 3000SC National Record of China fell to Xinyen Zhang!
Time of 9:20.38!
In Jamaica, Zharnel Hughes won the 200 in 20.14.
Rasheed Broadbell took the 110H in 13.15.
That was a PR by a whopping 0.32 seconds!!
Elaine Thompson-Herah won the 100 in 11.21, while Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce busted rust with her 200 of 22.66!

A Marathon in Italy saw the Men's race go to Erick Kiptanui in 2:05:47.
Twenty runners ran under 2:09!
Angela Tanui took the Women's race in the World Leading time of 2:20:08!

Some Walk news--
The Men's 50K World Lead went to Satoshi Marico (sp??), time of 3:38:42.
The US Trials for the Pan Am's saw an unknown win the Men's 20K!
Daniel Nehnevag won in 1:26:00.
His two main victims were stars Nick Christie and Emmanuel Corvero, both of whom finished over two minutes behind!!
Maria Michta-Coffey was beaten by a Mexican, but she was first American in 1:38:47.
Versatile Collegiate Walker AND Runner Taylor Ewert finished 5th in 1:41:08, not her PR!
But what the heck, it probably was a nice break from her University responsibilities!!

A couple of good HS marks to report--
Katelyn Fairchild had a JT of 171-7, making her 13th A-T HS!
And Bryce Foster had the first HS 70 footer in the SP since 2019, mark of 71-1.
He takes up the caboose position on my Top 24 A-T Performers list!

Knocked OFF that list was a name long gone from the sport!
Doug Lane's mark is GONE, his mark of 70-11 being from 1968, 53 years ago!!!

A bit of non-results news--
Salwa Naser's appeal before CAS for her missed drug tests is today!!
Waiting to hear word!
Also, on a happier note, new Road 50K World Record holder Des Linden threw out the first ball in a recent Boston Red Sox game!!
She also announced she'll be running the fall version of the Boston Marathon this October!

A Burst of Records & Marks

 Maybe it's that the athletes are tired of a year of training with not much racing.
Maybe it's that we're within 100 days of the start of Tokyo's Olympics!
Maybe it's just a continuation of a fantastic INdoor season.
Whatever the case, last weekend (Sorry for the delay!) was a wild one!

The key meet was the one in Miramar, Florida.
Only the wind kept it from classic status!
Sha'Carri Richardson returned to her form of 2019, when she burst through to a 100 in 10.75.
She improved to 10.72, finishing far ahead of 2nd, and it was wind legal!
She gets the Age 21 Record!
She ranks 4th A-T US, and 6th A-T World!

Justin Gatlin didn't win, but he proved that at Age 39, he still can pop a goodie!
Kyree King took the W with 9.97, but Gatlin's 9.98 gave him the Age 39 Record!
But keep in mind that Kim Collins ran 9.93 at Age 40!!

Shamier Little ran a lap without hurdles in 49.91, just edging the 49.92 of Quanera Hayes!
For Little, she's 23rd A-T US!
In my Combined Events list for the US 400 & 400H, Little's 49.91 and 52.75 adds to 1:42.66!
This ranks her 2nd on that US list, and 5th on the World C-E!

That wind helped some along to quick times--
Kenny Bednarek was blown to 19.65 over 200 meters, but with a wind of 4.0!
Jenna Prandini ran her 200 in 22.29, aided by a wind of 2.3!
A 2.2 wind aided Grant Holloway to a 110H time of 13.04.
After a legal wind (2.0) carried Kendra Harrison to a 12.54 heat of the 100H, she took the final in 12.38, with a 2.7 wind at her back!

Other good marks from Miramar--
Tajay Gayle LJ'ed a World Leading 27-1.75!
Kenny Selmon's 48.81 over the 400H is also a World Leader!
Justin Robinson took the flat 400 in 45.23!
Ajee Wilson took the 800 in 2:00.57.
Danielle Thomas-Dodd won the SP with 62-10.75, with Maggie Ewen's 61-4 taking the US lead!

Another Florida meet saw HS PRO Erriyan Knighten sprint a HS PRO Record of 20.31 over 200 meters!
He also gets the HS PRO Soph Class Record!
He's only the second Male PRO in High School, Drew Hunter having been the first!
And Fred Kerley sprinted the 100 in 10.03, after a heat of 10.06!


The Georgia meet had a great Men's Multi!
In the end, Karel Tilga won it with 8484 points, making him 2nd A-T Collegiate!!
He also gets the Soph Class Record!
But he needed every point to beat Garrett Scantling's 8476 total!
This makes him 10th A-T US!
Zach Ziemek's 8213 total was a very decent 3rd!!

It wasn't in a Multi, but Heptathlete Kendell Williams reached 7.00 in the LJ, her 22-11.75 making her 10th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
A mark like that in a Heptathlon would net her 1172 points!!
Second with 22-5 was Jasmine Moore!
This gives her the Frosh Class Record, and makes her 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
But then she added a solid PR in her specialty, the Triple Jump!
Her 46-4.25 is also a Frosh Class Record, and ranks her 8th A-T Collegiate!
It also ranks her 13th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
With her 22-5 LJ, her Combined Events total for the LJ & TJ adds to 68-9.25!
This makes her 3rd A-T US on that list!!

Marie Therese-Obst added 4 inches to her JT PR, her 201-4 making her 4th A-T Collegiate!
Anna Hall scored 6200 points in the Heptathlon!
This is the Frosh Class Record, and ranks her 10th A-T Collegiate!

An Alabama meet saw Eliud Kipsang solo to a 1500 in 3:36.00!
This is the Frosh Class Record, and rates him 7th A-T Collegiate!
Tamara Clark ran the 100 in 11.07 in the same meet!

In Mississippi, Waleed Suliman ran a 1500 in 3:36.53!
He ranks 15th A-T Collegiate!

The Women's Hammer Throw--in 2 separate meets--took on major World Class status!
DeAnna Price broke her own American Record with a humongous toss of 257-10!!
This makes her 4th A-T World!
But then Brooke Andersen added a few feet to her PR, her 256-6 making her 2nd A-T US, and 5th A-T World!!
(BTW, reports say WR holder Anita Wlodarczyk is coming back from injury, and should be starting her season in May!!)

A Texas meet saw Athing Mu anchor her Texas A&M 4 X 400 squad to a time of 3:26.73, with her split of 50.21!
With a strong aiding wind, Tyra Gittens scored 6274 points in the Heptathlon, making her 6th A-T Collegiate!
I count windy Multi's, but attach a "W" to the mark on my lists!

Ruth Usoro exploded out 47-7 in the TJ, making her 2nd A-T Collegiate, and giving her the Junior Class Record!

An Arizona meet saw Sheldon Blockberger's son Johnnie sprint the 400 in 44.71!
He's a Freshman at Arizona!
Turner Washington threw the Discus 211-10!
And Samantha Noennig had a SP mark of 59-5.25!
In tying her PR, she's 21st A-T Collegiate!


Hannah Steelman took over the Collegiate 3000SC lead with her 9:46.35!
Maddy Nilles had a HT of 224-3.
But she misses the Collegiate DDD by 6 inches!

Trey Knight got a slight improvement in his HT, at 219-6!
He's a Frosh at USC!

The rest of the meet in Missouri was OUTdoors, but due to bad weather, they moved the Men's PV to INdoors!
Thus the following should be known as an INdoor mark!!
Zach Bradford went over the bar set at 19-0.75!
This makes him 9th A-T Collegiate, and 19th A-T US, tied with 1 other!

And then we have Desiree Davila--now known as Desiree (Des) Linden!!
A few months earlier, she decided she wanted to chase down the World Record (actually designated as World Best--except this blog will refer to it as the World RECORD!) in the 50000 meter run!!
So she and a small group organized their own race on a flat loop course near Eugene, and set the date for mid-April!!

Other runners stopped at the Marathon or Half Marathon distances (each loop was half of a Half, or about 6.55 miles!), but with pacer Charlie Lawrence running the whole way with her, Linden SHATTERED the World Record with a time of 2:59:54--about 5:47 per mile for the 31.1 mile course!!
She passed the 26.2 mark in 2:31:12, then ran the additional 4.9 miles in 28:42!
Brief video clips taken enroute showed her running relaxed and smooth, on the far right side of the paved bike path!!
The old WR was Aly Dixon's 3:07:20, while the old American Record was Janis Klecker's 3:13:51, dating from 1983!
Ms Klecker later became the mother of current stud Joe Klecker!!
Dixon, who is British, and still running, tweeted--Be back soon.  Just changing my bio!

On the Road(s) to Tokyo

 Days after the US OUTdoor season revved up at the Texas Relays, two Road races produced World Records!
Well, at least one of them did!
First came news that Beth Potter, not even Great Britain's best distance runner at present, had destroyed her PR in the Road (and overall) 5000, and broken the WORLD Record!!
Her unbelievable time was 14:41, and you can see even SHE thought it was UNbelievable as she crossed the line!
There's been non-stop chatter among the "experts" expressing doubt, while simultaneously congratulating her!!
All that said, it appears doubtful it will be ratified as the WR, but might be seen as a "World Best"!
More to come, no doubt!
(BTW, the race was in Lancashire, England!)

Then came the Istanbul Half Marathon!!
Simply put, Ruth Chepngetich smashed the WR by 29 seconds, timing 64:02 as she leapt  through the tape!
And what followed was amazing also!!

Besides the WR, Chepngetich gets Kenya's National Record, and the Age 26 Record!
Yehenzerf Yehualaw was 2nd in 64:40!
She gets the Age 21 Record, the best 2nd Place mark, and becomes 3rd A-T World!

Helen Obiri was running her first ever Half, and her 64:51 is the fastest ever debut in the event!
She gets the Age 31 Record, the best 3rd Place mark, and ranks 5th A-T World, tied with 1 other!

Joan Chelimo's 65:09 gets the best 4th Place mark, the Age 30 Record, and ranks 11th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Brigid Kosgei's 66:01 is the best 5th Place mark!
Hiwot Gebrkedan (sp?) was next in 66:47!
Then came G Behelech's 66:54, which rates as the best 7th Place mark!
In 10th came M Kejeta (sp?) in 67:03, which ranks as the best 10th Place mark!!

The Men's race was a goodie, as Kibiwot Kandie won it in 59:35, beating the 59:38 of Geoff Kamworor!

The Track and Field action wasn't too bad either, and in fact some Records were broken!
Paige Sommers added a quarter inch to the OUTdoor HSR in the Women's Pole Vault, clearing 14-8.50!!
She also gets the Senior Class Record!

The Women's 20000 meters Road Walk World Record was shattered by China's Jiayan Yang, her 1:23:49 an absolutely amazing time!!
That works out to about 6:47 per mile pace--WALKING!!

Two others beat the old WR!
Hong Liu's 1:24:27 was 2nd A-T World!
And Shenjie Qleyang's 1:24:45 is 3rd A-T World!!

Andrei Romanov is a 26 year old Russian competing as a Freshman at New Mexico Junior College in the Hammer Throw!
He broke the JCR with a throw of 248-5 in March!
He came within 4 inches of Balasz Kiss's Division 1 Frosh Class Record of 248-9!!
But then a bit later, he broke that record TWICE, his final mark of 250-11 a JCR, but also bettering Kiss's mark, dating from 1993!
The question then becomes--
Can a Junior College athlete break a Class Record set by a Division 1 athlete?/
Also, is it fair that a 26 year old bettered a mark set by much younger athlete's?
Then too, he's Russian!
He probably is able to compete here--despite the Russian ban--because he's not competing internationally!!
Lots to ponder!

Tons more to cover, so I'll turn to my old standby, and gather marks into event groups!!

Sprints--flat or over hurdles!
Sorry for mangling this name, but Shunsuki Izumiya (sp??) ran 7.50 for the 60H INdoors, setting the Japan NR!!
Returning to OUTdoors, Joseph Fahnbullah sped a 200 in 20.10 in Florida.
This was at the Florida Relays, where Dwight St Hillaire (Hadn't seen his name in awhile!!) beat Jacory Patterson in a 400, 44.74 to 44.81.
TeeTee Terry beat Tamara Clark in the Women's 100, 11.08 to 11.12.
Clark added a 200 win of  22.50!
Kaelin Roberts won the 400 in 51.23!

In Louisiana, Aleia Hobbs took over the World Lead with her 10.99 Century!
Kynnedy Flannel took the TX vs TX A&M duel meet's 200 in 22.55!
In Arizona, Sydney McLaughlin bettered her 2014 (when a HS Soph??) 100H PR by a BUNCH--her 13.03 easily winning!!
Internationally, Maraleidy Paulino ran the 400 in 50.31, setting the National Record of the Dominican Republic!
This was in her home country!
The Bahamas Shaunae Miller-Uibo sprinted a World Leading 200 time of 22.03!
Watch for her ever-changing hair coloring--making for a fashion statement as well as one on the track!!
Speaking of fashion, Syd the Kid (See above!) was sporting a Flojo-type leg wear in her race!
And bringing with it lots of comments and photos!
Finally, we have Allyson Felix winning a 100 in 11.31.

Jumps (LJ, TJ, HJ, and PV)
Back to that Japan INdoor meet for a moment--
Yuki Hashika (sp??) set the National Record in the Long Jump with his 26-10.50!
Claire Bryant LJ'ed 21-11, not bad for her 1st year in College!
(We're back OUTdoors, of course!)
Tara Davis followed up her Collegiate Record (See previous post!) with a much more sedate LJ of 22-0.25 at the TX-TX A&M duel!!
Davis also sped the 100H in 13.14!
Tyra Gittens HJ'ed a good 6-2.75!

In Chula Vista, some good High Jumping!
Eric Kynard cleared 7-6.50, while Vashti Cunningham went over 6-5.50!
Keturah Orji went 22-5.75 for a LJ PR.
But she misses the US list by 1.50 inches!!

Saving the "best" for last, something rather odd happened at the meet in Prairie View, Texas!
ALL FIVE entrants in the Men's PV No-Heighted!
That's correct, NO ONE got a mark!!
And this quintet included Jake Wooten and Andrew Irwin!!
Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed!!
LOL

Throws and Multis
In a March 20th meet, DeAnna Price took over the World Lead in the HT with her mark of 252-0!
Evelyn Aguilar scored 6346 in the Heptathlon, setting the National Record of Colombia!!
Thomas Mardel threw the Hammer 248-7, making him 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Camryn Rogers got a HT mark of 235-9, , making her 7th A-T Collegiate!
Huihui Liu took over the World Lead in the JT with a mark of 218-9!

Besides Claire Sommers's HSR (See above!), we have Olivia Lueking clearing a solid 14-3, making her 11th A-T HS!

I'm sure I don't need to remind my loyal readers that I have completely separate Records and Lists for OUTdoors and INdoors!!
I don't believe in "absolute" lists or Records!!

Mahayla Long now leads the HS Shot Put list with her 53-3.75!
This makes her 11th A-T HS!!

Now we move to the Distances-everything from the 800 to the 10000 on the track!
A couple of good HS marks came in the 5000 on March 20th--
Parker Wolfe's 14:06.48 ranks him  15th A-T HS!
And Brynn Brown did even better, her 15:56.89 ranking her 8th A-T HS!

The RE-opening of Hayward Field began a whole new era in United States T&F!!
It's definitely NOT the old Historic Hayward Field where UO's and the World's All-Time greats ran amazing times, but it is beautiful, I have to admit!
A personal note--While not anywhere near elite, I ran races and many miles of training in the old Hayward!
I also sat many times in the West grandstands (near the finish line and the track) watching history being made!
I miss THAT Hayward Field!
But life moves on, doesn't it?

So in the NEW Hayward Field, in its FIRST meet, Cole Hocker won the 800 and 1500 in times of 1:46.60 and 3:38.99!
The Men's 5000 saw Eduardo Herrera win in 13:24.46--but he had to use all of his speed to beat the 13:24.78 of Conner Mantz, and the 13:24.90 of Casey Clinger!
Wes Kiptoo took a tight 10K in 27:58.10, edging the 27:58.33 of Edwin Kurgat!
The 5000's were about 2 seconds away from making my Collegiate DDD, and the 10's were about 3 seconds off!!

In that Texas duel meet, Athing Mu crushed her old best in the 1500 with a decent 4:16.06!
What are her possibilities there??
Sage Hurta ran the 800 in 2:00.62, making her 10th A-T Collegiate!
This was in Arizona!
At the same meet, Leah Talland took the World Lead in the 3000SC with her 9:44.73!
Grace Forbes, a Rice Frosh, took the 10000 in 32:24.38!

As you know, I don't usually report 1600 or 3200 times, but when it's Jenna Hutchins running, you pay attention!
She knocked off a 3200 recently in 9:52.33!

Linden Hall has been quietly (noisily??) becoming Australia's best middle distance Woman recently!
First she broke the two minute barrier in the 800, and now she runs 3:59.67 to become Australia's first sub-4:00 Woman in the 1500!
Yes, that's the National Record!

A woman named A Wilson ran 2:00.84 in the 800 recently!
But this wasn't Ajee!!
It was Allie Wilson of the Atlanta Track Club!!

I'm ending with more news from the Road!
First, Fabienne Schlumpf ran the Half in 68:27!
This is the National Record of Switzerland!

In the USATF 15K Championships, Emily Sisson won the Women's race in 48:09!
(It was windy!)
In 7th place came Maggie Montoya.

Her time of 50:25 isn't important.
But a few short days after this race, she returned to Boulder and her job in the pharmacy at a Boulder supermarket just 3 blocks from her home!
No doubt we all know what happened!

She was working when gunshots rang out!
She and her co-workers ran to a back room, while the gunman continued his rampage, killing 10 people, including a Boulder policeman and one of the store's young employees, also a friend of Maggie's!

She was of course devastated and horrified, as we all were!
We watched in tears as she sat in a car talking to Anderson Cooper in a 9 minute interview on CNN!
Her boyfriend joined her!

Word is she's back training hard for the Olympic Trials!
A campaign was begun to raise money to support Maggie and her co-workers in the days and weeks that followed this tragic event!

We are here for you, Maggie!

Texas Relays leads strong opening of a normal season!

 What a difference a year makes!
After 2020 OUTdoors (& some of INdoors) was kidnapped from us by Coronavirus-19, 2021 remained a question mark as the year began!
Then an incredible INdoor season erased most negative thoughts!
While normalcy isn't quite all the way back, we can see hints it's coming!
And the Texas Relays made us believe 2020 was just a nightmare, and not reality!

Except for Patrick Boden's JT in 1990, we had not seen a Collegiate Record happen in March!
Then Tara Davis proved her CR of 22-9 in the LJ at the NCAA INdoors wasn't a one hit wonder!
She reached 22-10.50 for a massive OUTdoor PR, but she wasn't finished!
Her 23-5.25 took the CR away from Jackie Joyner-Kersee by about 6 inches!!
JJK's dated from 1985--36 years ago!!
Davis also gets the Meet Record and the Soph Class Record!
She is 5th A-T US!!
Ruth Usoro took 2nd in a PR of 22-2.25!

Terrance Laird smashed through the 20 second barrier in the 200, his 19.81 setting the Meet Record!
It makes him 5th A-T Collegiate, and 14th A-T US!!
Gabby Thomas also set a MR in the 200, her 22.17 PR doing the job!
It makes her 22nd A-T US!
Jenna Prandini was 2nd in 22.43!

Shamier Little also got a Meet Record, her 50.19 in the 400 ending more than a second ahead of her competition!
Maggie Malone is back at full power in the Javelin Throw!
She threw 201-5 in an earlier meet, then reached 204-8 in Austin!
It makes her 5th A-T US!
Ariana Ince took Silver with 194-5.
Then came Ashton Riner's 188-0, which makes her 22nd A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!!

Other solid Texas marks--
Ronnie Baker sprinted the Century in 9.94!
He gets the Meet Record!
In a separate race, Ben Azamati sped 9.97 for the National Record of Ghana!
Another MR fell to Bryce Deadmon's 44.62 in the 400!

Both Pole Vaults produced good marks!
Sandi Morris took the Women's elite with 15-9.
Bridget Guy ended with 15-5, making her 8th A-T US, tied with 4 others!
(In a separate Women's PV, Nastassja Campbell cleared 14-9.50, making her 16th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
KC Lightfoot won the Men's elite with 19-0.25!
He's 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Zach McWhorter and Hussain Al Hazam both topped 18-8.25, with Al Hazam being 24th A-T Collegiate, tied with a massive TEN others!

Damion Thomas ran the 110H in 13.22, making him 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Deborah Acquah's 45-5.75 TJ makes her 21st A-T Collegiate!
The Men's 4 X 400 Relay gave up good marks!
North Carolina A&T's 3:00.23 makes them 10th A-T School!
Texas's 3:01.28 makes them 18th A-T School!
Houston ran a speedy 38.49 in the 4 X 100!

In a separate 200 (from Laird's--See above!), Brandon Carnes won in 20.22, while EJ Floreal was 2nd in 20.29!
Isai Rodriguez won the 10000 in a quick early season 28:08.70--something you don't see too much of at the Texas Relays!
Sean Donnelly threw the Hammer 248-0!
Anderson Peters's 270-8 in the Javelin Throw beat the 265-9 of Michael Shuey!
Tessa Wilson won the 100 in 11.12, beating the 11.21 of Thelma Davies!
Tonea Marshall ran a solid March time of 12.75 in the 100H!
Valerie Allman flew the Discus out 218-0 on her 1st throw!
Taliyah Brooks scored 6252 points in the Heptathlon, making her 21st A-T US!
Finally (from Texas!), Arkansas took the Women's 4 X 400 Relay in 3:26.63, beating the 3:28.10 from Texas!

If you thought Tara Davis's 23-5.25 was incredible, what to make of the fact there were two OTHER Women passing the 23 foot barrier in March!
In Florida, Chantel Malone leapt 23-2.75!
Right behind her came Russian Darya Klishina's 23-1.25.
That mark was wind-aided, but Klishina reached 23-0 without wind!

In that same meet, a couple of famous names made "comebacks" of sorts!
Marquis Goodwin LJ'ed 26-7.75, while Tori Bowie ran the 100 in 11.46, aided by a 2.7 wind!
Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran a PR of 22.60 in the 200!
While it had a wind of 2.5, High Schooler Jaylen Slade ran 20.27 to beat Trayvon Bromell's 20.29!
Windy or not, that's a huge improvement over Slade's INdoor HSR of 20.62!!
See what he can do with no wind!!
Also in Florida Maria Therese-Obst threw the Javelin 201-0, making her 4th A-T Collegiate!!

At the Raleigh Relays, known for its good distance results, Mercy Chelangat didn't disappoint!
She sped the final 1600 of her 10K in 4:45 (!!), her final time being 32:31.43!
Cravont Charleston had a good sprint double, taking the 100 and 200 in 10.10 and 20.37!
Alex Young's Hammer Throw reached 248-7.
Sean Dolan ran 3:38.45 in the 1500!
He's a Villanova Frosh!

Jessica Ramsey had a SP of 61-1.50 in a Mississippi meet!
Lagi Tausaga had a DT of 199-6 in Indiana!
Steven Gardiner ran the 200 in 20.24 in Puerto Rico!
Tamari Davis, who just turned 18 in February, ran a 200 in 22.64!

In Jamaica, Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce opened her season with 23.19 in the 200!
Shaneika Ricketts Triple Jumped 48-0!!

Down Under is just ending their summer season!
Tom Walsh had a SP mark of 71-6!
Julia Ratcliffe broke her own NZ National Record in the Hammer Throw, her mark being 241-3!
In Australia, Nina Kennedy cleared 15-7 in the Pole Vault!

The Lake Biwa (Japan) Marathon had some impressive numbers to offer!
(Much comment from the peanut gallery remarking on how much influence the new shoes had!!)
Kenzi Suzuki won it in the National Record time of 2:04:56!
But get this--
Five runners were under 2:07 (in the all Japanese field!)!
Sixteen ran 2:08:00 or faster!
And a massive ONE HUNDRED finished in 2:15:19 or faster!!
If you say so!!

A few early HS marks to consider--
Hobbs Kessler worked his magic over the Two Mile distance, his 8:39.04 making him 4th A-T HS!!
He was timed enroute at 3000 in 8:09.14, which makes him 12th A-T HS on that list!
Ben Shearer was a good runner-up in 8:48.90!
Colin Dahlman is the fastest Miler so far, his time being 4:04.86!
The Deuce was in South Carolina, while the Mile was in Arizona!
Mia Barnett ran her Mile in 4:43.11, beating the 4:44.94 by one "Laura" Ping!
I put quotes around that because I'm wondering if they meant she's "Lauren" Ping, Grace's younger sister!
Is there a THIRD Ping out there, perhaps Grace & Lauren's even younger sister??
Whatever the case, the Ping name lives on!!
BTW, Ms Barnett also took the 3200 in 10:15.82!

It was my own mess-up, but for my previous results post, I left out some marks written on a piece of notebook paper (my method!!).
I realized that one of my pages was missing--AFTER I'd posted my blog!
So I searched for it, and later found it hidden among my 700+ pages of my T&F Record Book!!
Here are those marks--now about two weeks later!!

Neeraj Chopra had a JT of 288-11!
Nina Kennedy (See above!) broke the Australia National Record with her PV clearance of 15-9.75!
She is 15th A-T World, tied with 4 others!!
Sandra Perkovic opened her season with a DT of 214-1.
In the Nagoya Marathon, Mizuki Matsuda won in a time of 2:21:51.
I heard the weather wasn't perfect there!

I'll close by returning to INdoors for a moment!
Paul Chelimo improved his 5000 time--behind Emmanuel Bor's 13:05.60 (See previous post!)--his 13:09.90 making him 8th A-T US!!

2021 INdoor AOY's--MEN & WOMEN

 INdoors 2021 was actually a full season--although the USATF meet, the NBIN, and the Millrose Games were not held!
Collegiates had a full season, after their 2020 INdoor NCAA Championships was cancelled!
And they produced, to say the least!
So, bottom line, this blog has a wealth of material from which to choose its Athletes of the Year, Performances of the Year, Personalities of the Year, and the Events of the Year!
And here we go!

World Athlete of the Year--MEN
GRANT HOLLOWAY was an easy choice, despite his 7.29 for 60H not being the only World Record!
He had 7 marks under 7.40--in fact, no one else had even one!
And some of those were heat times!!
Honorable Mentions--Ryan Crouser and Hughes Zango deserve Special Mention for their own WR's!
Other HM's go to Elliot Giles, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Getnet Wale, Cooper Teare, Maksim Nedesekau, Mondo Duplantis, Renaud Lavillenie, and Kevin Mayer!

However, this was a tough choice, because Hobbs Kessler broke the HSR in the Mile!
I chose Slade because his HSR beat the one by Noah Lyles!
Thus, it came down to the quality of the Record broken, rather than solely for the new Record itself!!
Honorable Mentions--Mr Kessler, of course!!  
But the Men's HS depth was missing this year!
Thus, only Kessler, Kamyren Garrett, and Logan Coles make HM this season!

World Athlete of the Year--WOMEN
GUDEF TSEGAY, for leading the World in 3 events, and for her WR in the 1500, breaking an already solid mark by the venerable Genzebe Dibaba!!
Honorable Mentions--Femke Bol, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Athing Mu, Ariole (sp?) Dongmo, Yaroslava Mahuchukh, Elle Purrier, Nadine Visser, and Nafi Thiam!

US Athlete of the Year--WOMEN

Let me explain!
She didn't break any American Records, as did Tara Davis, but she led 3 events with World Class times.
But what decided it was her Relay leg of 49.54!!
No one--in a Relay or in the flat 400--has ever run faster INdoors!
In fact, I gave Mu strong consideration for my WORLD AOY--for that reason!!
Honorable Mentions--Tara Davis, Abby Steiner, Sandi Morris, Olivia Gruver, Elle Purrier, Anna Hall, Erin Reese, Raven Saunders, and Shamier Little!

As I noted at the onset, we saw a fairly complete INdoor season in 2021 (& late 2020!).
Last year, the season lost 2 of the biggest marks-producing meets--the NCAA & NBIN!
No NBIN this year either, but so many other opportunities!
(I didn't even do a count last year of the marks that made my various DDD's!
So here are my Events of the Year in my 4 core groups!1

The World Men have 45 marks listed for 2021 in my Record Book!
The Women weren't as productive on the World stage, attaining just 33 marks!

For the US, the Women did better, as they have 41 marks to the Men's 33.

The Collegiate scene were by far the busiest!!
The Men have 63 marks in my Book from 2021, while the Women have 55!!
That's 118 total for the College crowd!

The High Schoolers were the least productive!
The Women have 23 marks, while the Men have just 13!!

But overall--for all 4 core groups--the totals were VERY close!
The Men have 154 marks, while the Women total 152!
The Grand Total is back over 300--total of 306!!

Finally, we have which event led each group!
World MEN--
The 800 had 5 marks.
The 1500, 3000, and the SP had 4 each!
With 3 apiece were the 200, 400, 60H, and the WT!

US MEN--
The 400 & 800 led with 5 each!
The SP got 4.
With 3 is the 200!

Collegiate MEN--
The 5000 had a whopping 8 marks!!
The 4 X 400 Relay & the DMR each got 6 marks!
The Mile has 5.
With 4 marks are the 400, 1500, 60H, and the LJ!
The 200 and the SP have 3 apiece!

High School MEN--
The 200 has 3 marks!

World WOMEN--
The Two Mile (!!!) leads with 7 marks dated 2021!
With 3 each are the 200, 800, 3000, and the 4 X 400 Relay!

US WOMEN--
Leading with 5 marks each are the 300, Two Mile, and the WT!
The 400 has 4 marks!
The 200, 800, and the SP have 3 apiece!

Collegiate WOMEN--
The 800 leads with 7 marks!
The LJ and WT have 6 each!
The 60 & the 400 have 4 each!
With 3 apiece are the 200, 3000, TJ, the 4 X 400 Relay, and the DMR!

High School WOMEN--
The Pole Vault is far in front with 7 marks!
The 3000 and Two Mile have 3 each!!

Thus the Event of the Year is the Collegiate 5000, with 8!!

NCAA T&F & XC--WOMEN (4 CR's broken or tied)

 The Women also had some depth (See Men's report!), but what made headlines here were the number of Collegiate Records either broken or tied--3 broken & 1 tied!
They also outdid the Men in number of Meet Records broken or tied--5 broken and 3 tied!!

And since I follow her on Twitter (and have PM'ed with her father!), I was super happy when Tara Davis not only got her first 22 footer in the LJ, but then nipped the Collegiate Record by an inch with her 22-9 leap!
It's also the Meet Record and the Junior Class Record, and ranks her 6th A-T US!!

Claire Bryant's 21-11.75 took 2nd, and got the Frosh Class Record!
She's 19th A-T Collegiate!
Tyra Gittens leapt 21-11, making her 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others, 

Gittens was rather busy over the three days!
She broke the Collegiate Record in the Pentathlon with 4746 points!
This also gave her the Trinidad National Record, the Meet Record, and the Junior Class Record!
She misses the World list by 34 points!!
Anna Hall scored 4401 in 2nd!
Gittens also won the open HJ with her 6-2.75!

The Triple Jump saw TWO Women reach 46-10, with Ruth Usoro's better 2nd jump making her the winner over Deborah Acquah!
But both are credited with tying the Meet Record!!
Acquah is ranked 3rd A-T Collegiate!
Usoro has a better mark!
Ruta Lasmona's 46-5.25 makes her 7th A-T Collegiate!

The 60 saw Jamaica's Kemba Nelson shake up the formcharts a bit, as she won it all in the Collegiate Record time of 7.05!
It's also the Meet Record, and the Junior Class Record!
Twanisha Terry (I saw her referred to as TeeTee Terry!!  Makes sense!) took 2nd in 7.14, while Kiara Grant was 3rd in 7.16!
However, both TT & Grant ran faster in their heats!
Terry ran 7.09 in her heat, making her 6th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others, and 17th A-T US, tied with 3 others!
Grant ran her heat in 7.11, making her 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!

Abby Steiner improved her PR by 0.03 seconds to 22.38 to take the one lapper!
It ties the CR, the Junior Class Record, and the Meet Record!
She's 5th A-T World, tied with 2 others, and 2nd A-T US, tted with 1 other!
Tamara Clark ended in 22.45, making her 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, 7th A-T US, tied with 1 other, and 16th A-T World, tied with 1 other!

While there were 5 MR's broken--and 3 others tied!--the most depth was in the 800!
Blasting a 56.90 first 400, Aaliyah Miller survived a 2nd 400 of 63.79 to win in the Meet Record time of 2:00.69!
She also gets the Senior Class Record!
She's 2nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, and 22nd A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Athing Mu ran the 400 and in the 4 X 400 Relay (See below!).
Laurie Barton's 2:01.21 took Silver, making her 7th A-T Collegiate!
Shafiqua Maloney was inches behind her, her 2:01.22 making her 8th A-T Collegiate!
Lindsey Butler's 2:02.15 wasn't a PR!
Claire Seymour's 2:02.25 ranks her 19th A-T Collegiate!

Speaking of Mu )Pronounced as MO!), she actually LOST the open 400!!
Kaelin Roberts took advantage by running 50.84 for the Win!
She's 11th A-T Collegiate, and 14th A-T US!
Mu ran 51.03 for Silver (after a heat of 51.02!).
Third was Talitha Diggs in a non-PR of 51.26.
Then came Charokee Young's 51.41, ranking her 22nd A-T Collegiate!

But Ms Mu was NOT done!!
She only ran the fastest ever 400--open or Relay split--in INdoor history!!!
Her incredible long stride--on pencil thin long legs--covered the two laps in 49.54, bringing her Texas A&M team to victory in 3:26.68!
The World Record is 49.59!
Say what you will about running starts in Relay legs (except lead-off!), but Mu's run was absolutely stunning!!

The team set the Meet Record!
USC took 2nd in 3:27.91, while Arkansas was 3rd in 3:28.07!
The DMR saw BYU take the W with 10:52.96!
They become 6th A-T School!
Arkansas was 2nd in 10:57.19, followed by Florida State in 10:59.16, and Oklahoma State in 10:59.75!

The Weight Throw was won by Mihaily Forrest with a throw of 76-3.75!
This makes her 12th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, and 19th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Rachel Tenczos was 2nd with 76-3, making her 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Back in 9th came Monique Hardy, her 70-6.50 breaking her own Frosh Class Record!

Lisa Gunnarsson took the PV, clearing a PR of 14-11.50!
She's 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Freshman Sydney Horn was 2nd with 14-5.50!

Adelaide Aquilla took the Shot Put with a throw of 59-5.50, making her 16th A-T Collegiate!
I heard this is the first under 60 winner in a few years at this meet!
Joyce Kimeli sought a double W in the 3K and 5K, but Courtney Wayment spoiled her party by taking the 3000 in 9:01.47.
Lauren Gregory took 2nd in 9:01.67!
Kimeli ran 9:02.79 in 3rd!
However, she did win the longer race, time of 15:48.98!

\Sage Hurta (Also one of my favorite names in T&F!) took the mile in 4:30.58, making her 17th A-T Collegiate!
Her splits were 2:19 and 2:11, with a last lap of 63!
Achera Nugent took the 60H in a non-PR of 7.92!

In the 2020 XC Championships, Mercy Chelangat took control and sped to a victory in 20:01!
The next nine were--
Taylor Roe in 20:06
Amaris Tynnismaa in 20:10
Mahala Norris in 20:11
Hannah Steelman in 20:14
Taryn O'Neill in 20:23
Summer Allen in 20:23
Bethany Hasz in 20:25
Kelsey Chmeil in 20:26
And Ella Donaghu in 20:26

Others included--
Whittni Orton ran 20:35 in 17th
Krissy Gear ran 20:39 in 21st
Katelyn Tuohy was 6th or 7th for much of the race, but faded at the end to 24th in 20:47!
However, she still ranked as the top Frosh!
Haley Herberg was 55th in 21:05!

BYU took team honors with 96 points!
North Carolina State's 161 took second!

NCAA T&F & XC--MEN (Depth Rules!)

 NOTE--This and the following post covers the INdoor NCAA T&F Championships, and the 2020 edition of the NCAA Cross Country Championships--held in mid-March due to Covid!  I decided to split the posts by sex; thus this one covers the Men's results from both, while the next will cover the Women's results!  One of these days, I'll be caught up with the backlog of Records & Marks!  BTW, sometime soon I'll do my INdoor Athletes of the Year, etc!  Enjoy!

No Collegiate Records fell to the Men, but the depth of several events made this a pretty fair set of results!
The 5000 began with a first K of 2:31--OUTdoor World Record pace!!
But Winner Wes Kiptoo inevitably (and sensibly!) slowed, yet his 13:23.77 set the Meet Record, the Junior Class Record, and made him 11th A-T Collegiate!!
Then followed a trail of runners that pretty much rewrote the bottom part of my Top 24 A-T Performers list!!

Eric Hamer's 13:29.60 makes him 18th A-T Collegiate!
Morgan Beadlescomb (LOVE that name!!) ran 13:29.96, ranking him 19th A-t Collegiate!
Adriaan Wildschutt ended in 13:30.55 to rank 20th A-T Collegiate!
Aaron (Sic!) Bienenfeld was right behind in 13:31.65, making him 21st A-T Collegiate!
Shea Foster's 13:32.38 makes him 22nd A-T Collegiate!
Alec Bastien ran 13:32.98 for 23rd A-T Collegiate!!

The 200 was also solid!
Matt Boling got around 1 lap in 20.19, fulfilling much of the hype he's gotten the past year or two!
He makes 3 lists--he's 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, 4th A-T US, tied with 1 other, and 6th A-T World, also tied with 1 other!
He needed all of that to stop Terrance Laird's 20.20!
Laird ranks 7th A-T Collegiate, and 6th A-T US and World, the latter in which he's tied with 1 other!

The 400 saw a trio of speedsters take high places on my lists!
Run in sections (as was the 200), Noah Williams took a chunk off his PR, winning in 44.71!
He gets the Junior Class Record!
He ranks 5th A-T Collegiate, and 4th A-T on both the US and World lists!
Randolph Ross dipped under 45 with his 44.99!
He's 9th A-T Collegiate, 8th A-T US, and 11th A-T World!
In 3rd came Jacory Patterson's 45.14.
This makes him 13th A-T Collegiate and US, as well as 19th A-T World!

Damion Thomas wasn't the fastest winner ever, but his 7.51 makes him 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Jamal Britt's 7.52 ranks him 10th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
Trey Cunningham was right behind in 7.53, but it wasn't a PR!
Phil Lemonnonia (Sp??) ran 7.54, and is ranked 16th A-T Collegiate!
And Eric Edwards ended in 7.58, making him 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 3 others!

The Distance Medley Relay saw Oregon threaten its own Collegiate Record, missing by just 0.46 seconds!
Their 9:19.98 saw Cooper Teare run a 3:52 anchor!
It is, however, a Meet Record!
Mississippi's 9:20.75 makes them 2nd A-T School!
Texas ran 9:22.73, making them 3rd A-T School!
North Carolina became 4th A-T School with their 9:25.80!
And Virginia Tech's 9:27.67 makes them 9th A-T School!

The Field Events had some good depth!
Especially the Long Jump, which saw 3 Men top 27 feet!
JuVaughn Harrison's 27-8.75 makes him 3rd A-T Collegiate!
And he's 3rd A-T US, tied with 1 other, as well as 8th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
(BTW, he also took the HJ with 7-6.50!!  That makes him 20th A-T Collegiate, tied with a full DOZEN others!!)
Isaac Grimes's 27-4.75 makes him 6th A-T Collegiate, 11th A-T US, and 24th A-T World!
And Corey McLeod's 27-1.25 makes him 12th A-T Collegiate!1

An upset in the Heptathlon, as unknown (to me!) Karel Tilga won it with 6264 points over Kyle Garland's 6200 points!
For Tilga, he gets Estonia's National Record and the Soph Class Record!
He's 2nd A-T Collegiate, behind only Ashton Eaton's CR of 6499!!
He ranks 24th A-T World!
Garland ranks 4th A-T Collegiate, and 10th A-T US!
Ayden Owens's 5995 misses my Collegiate DDD by one point!!

The other events saw a variety of list makers and Record breakers!
Micah Williams--after a 6.52 heat--took the 60  in a PR tying 6.49.
He's 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Charles Hunter didn't PR, but his 1:45.90 was just enough to edge Finley McLean's 1:45.91 in the 800.
This ranks him 8th A-T Collegiate!

Cole Hocker (the cover boy of April's T&FN!) took both the Mile and 3000!
His 3:53.71 sets the Meet Record!
Eliud Kipsang's 3:55.92 ranks him 23rd A-T Collegiate!
Hocker's 3K winning time was 7:46.15!
He ranks 17th A-T Collegiate!
Teammate Cooper Teare ended in 7:46.23, making him 18th A-T Collegiate!

The 4 X 400 Relay had good depth also!
North Carolina A&T won it in 3:03.16!
They are 5th A-T School!
Kentucky's 3:03.61 makes them 7th A-T School!
Tennessee ran 3:04.10 for Bronze!
Georgia's 3:04.84 makes them 19th A-T School!

Emmanuel Ihenteje's TJ of 56-7.50 gives him the Frosh Class Record!
He ranks 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Turner Washington was the sole Shot Putter to reach 70 feet, his 70-1 a clear winner!
Thomas Mardal threw the WT 80-3, giving him Norway's National Record!
This event is mostly an American concept, so anytime a European gets an NR, it's usually when competing for a US College!!
He ranks 5th A-T Collegiate, and 11th A-T World!
Israel Lloyd's 78-0.75 ranks him 15th A-T Collegiate!!

The Pole Vault saw KC Lightfoot (Who else??) win it with his 19-5.50 Meet Record!
Zach McWhorter's 19-0.25 was a respectable 2nd, making him 9th A-T Collegiate, tied with 5 others!!

So why all the great marks--especially on the track--at this meet?
Some insist it's the athletes wearing some version of the controversial shoes!
Some say it's because their 2020 INdoor NCAA Championship--and their entire OUTdoor season--was stolen from them by Covid!
Some say it's that this year's crop of athletes are just better than in many previous years!
Pick and choose, but IMO, this was one of the better SET of results I've seen in the INdoor NCAA!!

And then there's the 2020--Yes, I said TWENTY TWENTY!!--edition of the NCAA XC Championships, postponed from its November date to mid-March by the Covid wipeout last year!!
There was some question as to how competitors in the INdoor meet would do in the XC race just a few days later!
At least one major team chose to forego the Hill & Dale race in favor of the banked track of INdoors!!
That was Oregon's Ducks!!

Connor Mantz took individual honors over the 10000 meter course, winning by 22 seconds in 29:26.1.
The Top 10--after Mantz, was--
Adrian Wildschutt in 29:48
Wes Kiptoo in 29:54
Nico Young (first Frosh!) in 29:58
Patrick Dever in 29:59
Blaise Ferro in 30:02
Abdi Nor in 30:05

In 10th came Danny Kilrea's 30:11

Others included--
Casey Clinger running 30:19 in 13th
Cole Sprout running 30:20 in 15th

Northern Arizona took the team title with 60 points over Notre Dame's 87!

Euro Champs not the only news

 Never expect much from Regional Championships, maybe especially INdoor ones!
The 2021 edition of the European Championships, held from March 4th to the 7th in Torun, Poland, held to that theme!
Only one Meet Record fell in the entire meet!!
But a saving grace of these meets is that many National Records tend to fall--and that was the case in Torun!!

That Meet Record was Mondo Duplantis's 19-10.25 PV win!
Absent was Renaud Lavillenie, but his younger brother Valentin took the Silver--10 inches back!!
Another "star" was Jakob Ingebrigtsen!
He was a double Gold guy, winning the 1500 and 3000!
His 1500 was 3:37.56, but his 3K was (though an INdoor PR) just 7:48 and change!
Marcin Lewindowski was half a second back in the shorter race!

Wilhelm Belocian is getting faster!
His 7.42 in the 60H beat the 7.43 of Andy Pozzi!
Belocian is 20th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Pozzi tied his PR, and is ranked 22nd A-T World, tied with 4 others!

Maksim Nedesekau (sp?) HJ'ed a World Leading 7-9.25 to beat the 7-8.50 by Gianmarco Tamberi!
Nedasekau broke his own National Record of Belarus!
He's 18th A-T World, tied with 7 others!

A pair of NR's fell in the Men's LJ!
Miltiadis Tenteglou's 27-4.75 winner was not one of them!
Thobias Montler's 27-3.75 in 2nd is Sweden's new NR!
Kristian Pulli's 27-0.50 is Finland's 1st 27 footer!

Lamont Jacobs won the 60 by a mile (Ha!) in 6.47, the World Leader!
It's also Italy's new NR--and first sub-6.50!
He's 20th A-T World, tied with 7 others!
Netherland took the 4 X 400 Relay in a National Record of 3:06.06!
They're 14th A-T Nation!!

Pedro Pichardo took the TJ with his 56-9.25!
Kevin Mayer won the Heptathlon with an impressive 6392, though it's not a PR!
The Men's SP saw a good battle between Tomas Stanek and Michal Haratyk.
Stanek won, 70-11.75 to 70-5.25!

On the Women's side, Nafi Thiam was clearly the star!!
Her 4904 won the Pentathlon by over 100 points!
It gave her Belgium's National Record, and makes her 7th A-T World!
Another Belgian finished 2nd--she being Noor Vidts!
Her 4791 makes her 22tth A-T World!
Xenia Krizsen's 4644 in 3rd was also impressive!

Femke Bol keeps breaking her own Netherlands NR in the 400 by tiny increments, her latest of 50.63 bettering her old mark by 0.01 seconds!
But she still doesn't make my World DDD!
Her 49.99 anchor split in her team's winning 4 X 400 Relay shows she's capable of much more!
Netherlands time of 3:27.15 makes them 6th A-T Nation!
Great Britain was 2nd in 3:28.20.
Poland was 3rd in 3:29.94.
Italy's 3:30.32 in 4th makes them 15th A-T Nation!
Ukraine's 3:30.38 makes them 16th A-T Nation!

Yet another Netherlands NR fell--this one to Nadine Visser in the 60H!
Her 7.77 was a lucky number, as it also made her 15th A-T World, tied with 1 other!

Ajia Del Ponte won the shortest flat race in 7.03--by a BIG margin!!
Good enough to tie the National Record of Switzerland!

The middle distances (800 & 1500) were slow, but the 800 winner (2:03.88!) was 19 year old Neely Hodgkinson!
Amy Eloise-Markovic (formerly Eloise-Neale) won the 3000 in 8:46.43, her fastest!
She graduated from U-Dub, just 90 miles from my home, so extra pride in her win!

Elli Junnila's HJ of 6-5 gave her Finland's NR, but just 3rd in the meet!
Winner was Yaroslava Mahuchukh with 6-6.75, beating Iryna Hereshchenko's 6-6 in 3rd!
Patricia Mamona's 47-8 in the TJ beat the 47-7.75's of Ana Peleteiro and Neeli Eckhardt, who took 2nd & 3rd!
A slight upset in the LJ, as Maryna Romanchuk beat Malaika Mihambo, 22-8.50 to 22-7!

Another close field event saw A Dongmo prevail over Fanny Roos and Christina Schwanitz in the Shot Put!
Dongmo reached 63-6.50, but Roos's two foot PR (!!) of 63-3.50 broke her own NR of Sweden!
Schwanitz was 3rd with 62-3.75!

The Women's PV didn't break any Records, but it was a good one!
Angelica Moser improved to 15-7 in winning, making her 22nd A-T World, tied with 4 others!
Tina Sutej took Silver with 15-5.
Then came a trio of 15-3's, with Iryna Zhuk and Holly Bradshaw tying for 3rd, and Eleni Klavadia's 15-3 taking 5th!

As with many major Championships, several elites were MIA!
Some were due to Covid restrictions, while some just chose not to partake!!
BTW, the 3 Borlee brothers ran on Belgium's Relay team, but not in the open 400!

A stated attempt on Galen Rupp's INdoor American Record in the 5000 "failed"--at least as far as Rupp's record went!
But Emmanuel Bor beat the guy (Paul Chelimo) who said he was going after the Record!
Bor's 13:05.60 gives him the Age 32 Record!
It makes him 2nd A-T US, and 12th A-T World!
Chelimo finished in 13:12.51, making him 10th A-T US!

Cut OFF my World list was one Mo Farah, whose 13:09.16 dated from 2007!!
The race took place in Virginia!

All the rest I have is from OUTdoors!!
And what a pair of 5000's we saw in San Juan Capistrano!!
Grant Fisher sprinted to the W in 13:02.53!!
This makes him 13th A-T US!
In my Combined events for the American 1500 & 5000, Fisher's 3:36.23 & 13:02.53 adds to 16:38.76, making him 8th A-T US!

Marc Scott of Great Britain ended 2nd in 13:05.13.
Sean McGorty--the former Stanford teammate of Fisher--was 3rd in 13:06.45!
This makes him 17th A-T US!
He was followed by Joe Klecker's 13:06.67, which makes him 18th A-T US!

Cut OFF my American list was the infamous Alberto Salazar, whose 13:11.93 dated from 1982!

Josh Kerr won the 1500 at this Sound Running meet in 3:35.78!
Back in 8th was Matthew Centrowitz, who ended in 3:40.31!
The Women's 1500 was won by Sinclaire Johnson in 4:05.91.
She beat the 4:06.23 of Elise Cranny!

The Women's 5000!
Not surprising in the Gold position was Emily Sisson, who ran 14:55.82, making her 10th A-T US!!
But then came a real SHOCKER!!
Allie Buchalski??
She who had not ever broken 15:20, and she suddenly cranks out a 14:57.54??!!
WOW!!
This made her 19th A-T US!
Another surprise, but not really, was Weini Kelati in 3rd, also breaking the 15 minute barrier!
Her 14:58.24 is the Eritrea NR!
Alicia Monson was 4th in 15:07.65, while Gwen Jorgensen impressed with her 15:08.28!

Down Under in Australia, a women's 1000 (!) saw Claudia Hollingsworth lose to Linden Hall's 2:35.90!
But Hollingsworth's 2:36.72 is the "World Youth Record" (which this blog doesn't recognize!), as she's just 15 years old!!
Compare this to Mary Cain, who as a young Pro, ran 2:35.80 when she was 17--INdoors!

The NCAA moved the 2020 XC season to this year!
Thus we saw some Conference XC meets happening!
(This post is delayed, so this news is from early March!!)
The most important one was the PAC-12, held in Seattle.
Eduardo Herrera took the Men's race in a quick 22:30!
Charles Hicks--a Stanford Frosh--was 2nd in 22:41.
The Women's race saw Washington's Haley Herberg win on her home course in 19:02.
She beat Ella Donaghu's 19:09 and Stanford Frosh (!) Zofia Dudek's 19:14!

Early HS marks from OUTdoors included Paige Sommers's non-PR Pole Vault of 14-3, and Katelyn Fairchild's JT of 163-10.
That ranks her 24th A-T HS!!
Not bad for March!

Better Late Than Never

 Yes, I've fallen (WAY!) behind---again!
Reasons vary--inertia, laziness, reading a LOT, watching movies a LOT!
So we're still (mostly) INdoors!
This post goes back a bit--because I somehow had "lost" one of my stat note sheets from my previous post!
Found it (in my Record Book, of all places!), so I'll lead off with that!

At the 4th--and final--ATL INdoor meet, Allyson Felix shocked a bit by speeding through 200 meters in 22.59!
She gets the Age 35 Record, and makes her 18th A-T US!!
Shamier Little ran 400 in 50.57 for an ATL Meet Record!
She's 7th A-T US, and misses the World DDD by 0.02 seconds!!
Danielle Williams tied the MR with her 60H time of 7.86!

Heather MacLean won a close 800 in 2:00.53!
This makes her 19th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Second was Ireland's Siofra Buttner in a NR of 2:00.58!
Olivia Gruver PV'ed 15-5!

But best of all was the Women's Shot Put!
Raven Saunders is all the way back!
Her 64-2.50 is a MR, and makes her 4th A-T US!
Maggie Ewen got her's out 64-1.25, making her 5th A-T US!
And Jessica Ramsey was close with her 63-11.75, making her 6th A-T US!!

The SEC--as per normal--led the Collegiate Conferences in top tier marks!
But some others contributed!
Jacory Patterson sped 400 in 45.38 for an ACC Meet Record!
Dan McArthur got his SP out 67-10.75 for another ACC Meet Record!

Elly Henes won the ACC 3000 in a MR 9:00.53!
Lindsey Butler eked out an 800 win at ACC in the MR time of 2:01.96!
It's 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Laurie Barton's 2:01.99 was a close 2nd, making her 13th A-T Collegiate!

The biggest Conference held on an Oversize Track were the Big 10's!
I feel sorry for all the runners who were in events on the oval!

The Big 12 saw Micaiah Harris time 20.38 in the 200, making him 21st A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
KC Lightfoot PV'ed 19-4.25 for the Big 12 MR!
Stacey Williams's 400 of 51.60 is a Big 12 MR!
So is Kynnedy Flannel's 22.55 in the 200!
It also makes her 15th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Another Big 12 MR was by Ruth Usoro in the TJ!
Plus, her 47-1.50 makes her 2nd A-T Collegiate behind only Keturah Orji!!
Usoro also won the LJ with her MR of 22-4.50!
It makes her 6th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
But Kevona Davis also jumped good, her 21-11 making her 20th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
Finally (at the Big 12), we have Chanel Brissett's 7.89 winning the 60H!
This makes her 8th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
A Nugent was 2nd in 7.91, making her 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!

And now for the Southeast Conference!!
The Men's 200 was spectacular!
Terrance Laird's 20.28 edged Joseph Fahnbullah's 20.32 for the SEC Meet Record!
Laird is 10th A-T Collegiate, 8th A-T US, and 13th A-T World!
(Yes, at the SEC, we often see World list marks!!)
Fahnbullah is 14th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, 12th A-T US, tied with 3 others, and on my World DDD, he's 18th A-T , also tied with 3 others!
In 3rd came highly touted Matt Boling, his 20.37 making him 22nd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, and 20th A-T US, tied with 1 other!

Noah Williams's 45.26 in the 400 makes him 18th A-T Collegiate, and 19th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
The 4 X 400 Relay was solid!
Mississippi ran 3:04.08, making them 8th A-T School!
Kentucky's 3:04.67 makes them 15th A-T School!
Georgia is 16th A-T School by virtue of their 3:04.72!
And Alabama's 3:04.90 makes them 20th A-T School!
Mississippi also won the DMR in 9:29.35!
This is the SEC MR, and makes them 13th A-T School!!

JuVaughn Harrison LJ'ed 27-4 for the SEC Meet Record!
It makes him 5th A-T Collegiate, tied with 2 others!
He's also 11th A-T US, tied with 2 others, and 24th A-T World, tied with 3 others!
Corey McLeod's 27-0.75 makes him 11th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
McLeod added the TJ, his 56-4 making him 12th A-T Collegiate!
Thomas Mondal's WT of 79-3.25 makes him 5th A-T Collegiate, and 18th A-T World!
Kyle Garland scored 6012 points in the Heptathlon, making him 23rd A-T Collegiate, and 24th A-T US!

The SEC Women were top notch also!
Athing Mu finally ran the 800 the way her talent called for!
This resulted in a new Collegiate Record of 1:58.40!
Her splits were 57.96 and 60.44!
She also gets the Age 18 Record, the Frosh Class Record, and of course the SEC MR!!
She is 2nd A-T US, behind only Ajee Wilson!!
This also makes her 19th A-T World, tied with 1 other!!

Abby Steiner seems to be the Sprinter of the moment!
Her heat time of 22.41 is a MR!
It makes her 3rd A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other, 4th A-T US, also tied with 1 other, AND she's 11th A-T World, tied with 3 others!!
She won the final, but in a slower 22.50!

Joelle Lloyd (sp?) took the 60 in 7.15, making her 19th A-T Collegiate, tied with 8 others!!
Daughter of legendary Joetta Clark-Diggs, Talitha Diggs sped the 400 in 51.14!
This makes her 19th A-T Collegiate, and 21st A-T US!
Joyce Kimeli won both the 3000 and 5000, but it was in the shorter race that her 8:56/02 got her the SEC Meet Record.
It makes her 15th A-T Collegiate!
Second was Katie Izzo in 8:56.55, making her 17th A-T Collegiate!
Kimeli's 5000 time was 15:46.68.

Arkansas's 3:28.50 took the 4 X 400 Relay, and the MR!
They are 6th A-T School!
Kentucky was close in 3:28.82, making them 8th A-T School, tied with 1 other!
Alabama's 10:59.21 in the DMR makes them 19th A-T School!

Jasmine Moore TJ'ed 45-10, making her 14th A-T Collegiate, but 9th A-T US!!
Another Jasmine--Mitchell--took the WT with her toss of 76-3!
This makes her 13th A-T Collegiate, and 19th A-T US!
Shay Taiwo (Any relation to Jeremy??) was 2nd with her 75-7.25!
This makes her 14th A-T Collegiate, and 20th A-T US!
Maddie Malone was 3rd with 75-1.25, making her 17th A-T Collegiate!
And Anna Hall won the Pentathlon with 4521 points!
Whew!

Micah Williams used a bit of altitude to speed him to a 60 in 6.49!
This is the Frosh Class Record, and the Age 19 Record!
He ranks 7th A-T Collegiate, tied with 1 other!
And he's 22nd A-T US, tied with 3 others!

Annie Kunz scored big in Seattle's Pentathlon with 4614 points!
BUT--the 800 being run  on that 307 meter OT, it doesn't count on my lists!
However, she scored 4610 last year for her PR!
In Iowa, Shauniece O'Neal threw the WT 74-6.50, making her 20th A-T Collegiate!
She goes to Southern Illinois!

A meet in Serbia saw Mondo Duplantis rise to a PV measurement of 20-0!!
He breaks his own Age 21 Record!!
That was on February 24th!
Armin Sinencevic (sp?) threw the SP 69-8.75 for the NR of Serbia!

Renaud Lavillenie had his best PV since his then WR back 6 or 7 years ago!
His 19-10.50 gives him the Age 34 Record!
Menna Vloon (Who is he???) was next with a Netherlands National Record of 19-6.50!
This makes him 14th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Chris Nilsen was 3rd with 19-2.75!
Also in that France meet, Holly Bradshaw won the Women's PV with 15-8.25!
Iryna Zhuk's 15-6.25 broke her own National Record of Belarus!

Karsten Warholm sped 300 meters in 32.47, making him 18th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
I have several OUTdoor marks to report, but let's finish my INdoor stuff first!
And we go to the Adidas High School Nationals meet, supposedly taking the place of the cancelled NBIN!!
This was held February 26th to the 28th!
There were several good marks, but the quality and depth of the New Balance meet were missing for the most part!!

Jaylen Slade sped his 60 in 6.68, making him 24th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
Sam Rich ran the Two Mile in 8:58.15.
Leonard Martens (sp??) ran the 60H in 7.71, making him 19th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!
Kamyren Garrett upped his HJ PR by a quarter inch, his 7-2.50 making him 11th A-T HS!
Logan Coles improved his WT to 78-11.75, making him 16th A-T HS!

Victoria Perrow sped her 60 in 7.31, making her 23rd A-T HS, tied with 4 others!
Hannah Douglas's 23.69 in the 200 makes her 24th A-T HS, tied with 1 other!

Avery Lewis continues to amaze!
This unbelievable Freshman flew out 21-2.50 in the LJ, breaking her own Frosh Class Record!
She is just one and a half inches from the JUNIOR Class Record!!!
She is 6th A-T HS!

The Two Mile was solid.
Syd Thorvaldson's 9:55.09 was not a PR!!
Audrey Dadamio finally ran a full Deuce, her 10:11.19 making her 22nd A-T HS!
Of course, she ran a much faster time in a 3200--which in my Record Book--counts for ZERO!!!

Kenna Stimmel PV'ed 13-11.25, making her 12th A-T HS!
Paige Sommers reached 13-9.25, making her 16th A-T HS, tied with 2 others!

Now we'll finish with some OUTdoor marks!
At the Texas Qualifier, Konstanze Klosterhalfen broke a 30 year old National Record of Germany by winning the 10000 in 31:01.71, splits of about 15:42 and 15:19!
Elle Purrier won the 5000 in 15:08.11.
Ajee Wilson beat Kaela Edwards in the 800, 1:58.23 to 1:59.86!

In New Zealand, Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill continued their battles in the SP!
Walsh won with 70-10.50 to Gill's 70-4.25!
Valerie Adams had her best SP in several years, reaching 64-6.75!
Yaime Perez had a DT of 218-9--but not in NZ!

Finally, a couple of Walk marks!
Did you know that Nick Christie and Robyn Stevens are a couple?
Not sure if they're married or just living together, but they both won their races in Santee, CA recently.
Christie's 50000 time was 4:10:53, while the Women Walked the odd distance of 35K!!
Stevens's time of 3:01.08--if extended to 50K, would be about 4:18!
