2019 OUTdoors World & US Athletes of the Year (a bit late!)

Sorry for the long delay in doing my AOY's for the World & US for 2019 OUTdoors, but if you've read my recent posts, you know I just had cataracts removed on September 10th, so now able to do what's needed to produce my blog again!

Loyal readers also know I give most weight in AOY picks to Records broken--from HS and Collegiate, to US and the World!
While other criteria are considered , those who break the Records will tip the scales!
Thus, a few of my choices might surprise you--even cause argument!
Don't forget these are MY selections, and that I welcome any disagreements!

First, a listing of World and American Records broken in 2019 OUTdoors--
World Records, Men (Geoff Kamworor--Half Marathon in 58:01)
American Records, Men (Donovan Brazier--800 in 1:42.34)  (Sam Kendricks--Pole Vault of 19-10.50)
(4X100 Relay--37.10)
World Records, Women (Shaunae Miller-Uibo--300 in 34.41)  (Sifan Hassan--Mile in 4:12.33)
(Brigid Kosgei--Marathon in 2:14:04)  (Delilah Muhammed--400H in 52.20, then 52.16)
L Huong--50k Walk in 3:59:15)
American Records, Women  (Shelby Houlihan--1500 in 3:54.99)  (Delilah Muhammed--400H's in 52.20 and 52.16)

Athlete of the Year--World MEN
Oh boy!
Three guys shoved a 16 pound ball past 75 feet--in one meet!
My pick ran SLOW in the Doha final in his event!
But my choice is KARSTEN WARHOLM!!
His 46.92 earlier in the year was the first sub-47 since Kevin Young's WR!!
He went undefeated!
And he was always entertaining in doing so!

Honorable Mentions
Geoff Kamworor gets lead here, due to his WR Half!
Others include Christian Coleman, Noah Lyles, Tim Cheruiyot, Ken Bekele, Grant Holloway, Sam Kendricks, that trio of SP'ers (Joe Kovacs, Ryan Crouser, and Tom Walsh), and a Special Mention to Doha's Main Attraction and HJ Winner, Mutaz Barshim!!

Athlete of the Year--World WOMEN
A Mile WR always gets my attention, and one person breaking the WR twice in one year is definitely noteworthy!
But Paula Radcliffe's WR Marathon from 2003 was NOT supposed to be broken!
Several All Time greats had tried, but none came closer than 96 seconds removed!
Thus, when the Record was MANGLED by a full 81 seconds in Chicago, my AOY for 2019 OUTdoors was determined!
Her name is BRIGID KOSGEI!!

Honorable Mentions
Delilah Muhammed gets first dibs here, with her double dip into the WR pool in the 400H
Sifan Hassan got the Mile Record!
Others include Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, Dina Asher-Smith, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Sydney McLaughlin, Mariya Lasitskene, Anzhelika Sidorova and Sandi Morris, Yulimar Rojas, and Katerina Johnson-Thompson!!

Athlete of the Year--United States MEN
When you break a Record that's been around awhile, and when that Record is held by a Legend, you get my AOY!!
DONOVAN BRAZIER finally nailed Johnny Gray's iconic mark with his 1:42.34, which also got him the Gold medal in Doha!
The SP'ers were fantastic, but they did NOT get the AR, however controversial that mark is!

Honorable Mentions
Joe Kovacs and Ryan Crouser got Silver and Bronze with their 75's!
Others include Christian Coleman and Noah Lyles, Lopez Lomong, Grant Holloway and Daniel Roberts, Will Claye and Christian Taylor, and Sam Kendricks.

Athlete of the Year--United States WOMEN
She not only got the American Record at USATF, but the World Record as well!
Then, in one of the best races of the year in ANY event, DELILAH MUHAMMED did it again in Qatar!!
I did give strong consideration to Shelby Houlihan, who blew away the old 1500 AR by 1.30 seconds!
But in the end, had to go with Muhammed--for the Record, and for defeating the Woman who I thought would win, and even go sub-52!!

Honorable Mentions
Shelby Houlihan leads the way here!
Others include Sydney McLaughlin, Ajee Wilson, Emma Coburn, Sara Hall, Nia Ali, Keturah Orji, Sandi Morris and Jenn Suhr, DeAnna Price, Erica Bougard and Kendell Williams!!

Performance of the Year--World MEN
Geoff Kamworor's 58:01 in the Half Marathon!

Performance of the Year--World WOMEN
Brigid Kosgei's 2:14:04 Marathon!

Performance of the Year--United States MEN
Donovan Brazier's 1:42.34 in the 800!

Performance of the Year--United States WOMEN
This one was tough!
But in the end, Shelby Houlihan's 3:54.99 in the 1500 prevailed--even though she didn't even medal in Doha!!
Delilah Muhammed did break the AR--and WR!!--twice, but her margins were far less than Houlihan's!

My Event of the Year is based on the number of Marks that make my Top 24 lists (my DDD's).
Thus, the Men's Marathon led with 8 Marks from 2019!
The Half Marathon and 4X100 Relay have 5 each!!
For the Women, The Marathon leads with 7, while the Half Marathon has 6, and the 1500 has 5.

BTW, the US Event of the Year are somewhat different from the World leaders!
The Men's leaders are the 100 and 400 with 4 apiece!
The 200, Marathon, Triple Jump, and Pole Vault have 3 each!
The Women best Event is the Hammer Throw, with 7 Marks!
The Marathon and Pole Vault have 5 Marks each!
The 1500 has 4.

My Personality of the Year awards can go to a person (or organization!) that is not always seen in a positive light!
Time Magazine has chosen some pretty nasty people for their Person of the Year--Ayatollah Khomeini, for example!!
So don't be TOO shocked when you see who I've chosen for my Personality of the Year for the World Men!!

Personality of the Year--World MEN
NIKE!!
YIKES!!
Yep, my friends, that nasty old shoe company gets my Personality of the Year award for the Men!!
You know the reason!
The Mary Cain saga explains it all--or should!
Alberto Salazar was Mary's coach.
He was banned for 4 years for alleged drug distribution to his star athletes!
Salazar was hired by Nike.
(There are other reasons to throw Nike under the bus, but this one is egregious enough!)

Personality of the Year--World WOMEN
It's not necessary for my Personality pick to be a Record breaker!
In this case, no WR was broken, but she broke a few others!
So this Award goes to SIFAN HASSAN!
Her 3:51.93 in Doha led a long string of Women to a long string of various Records broken (National, Age, Place).
But it was the WAY she did it that made me choose her for this Award!
She acted as her own personal rabbit, leading from the gun in the greatest 1500 race ever!!
That takes guts (and other unmentionables!  LOL)!!

Personality of the Year--United States MEN
This one is more personal!
I just LIKE this dude!!
A great athlete, but also a charming and loquacious and just cool dude, my winner is GRANT HOLLOWAY!!

Personality of the Year--United States WOMEN
MARY CAIN!!
Watch her 6:59 long NYT op-ed from last November 15th--and have a pile of hankies handy!
See my previous post for the whole story, but Cain's story went viral within hours!
She received numerous messages of support and love from elite athletes--Men and Women--from around the globe!
She has already inspired many teenage girls--from Middle School and High School and Colleges--with her honesty and courage.
And she is coming back!
She is stronger now, despite the horrors she experienced for years!!
An easy choice!

Coming soon--
my first report on the 2019-2020 INdoor season!!
(My eyesight was so bad, I don't even know most of the Records and Marks I'll begin researching soon!!)
These results are old, but hopefully you'll enjoy remembering them!

2019 OUTdoor Season Ends

I'll get to the NCAA and both High School XC Championships soon, but first a question--
Is Valencia, Spain fast (pun intended!) becoming THE place to run fast 13.1's and 26.2's, as well as a WR in the 10k?
In a previous post, I reported on a fairly fast Half there.
But the Women's Marathon was stunning--for speed and depth!

Reza Dereje took Gold with a solid 2:18:30.
She gets the Age 22 Record, and is 8th A-T World!
Azmera Abreha ran 2:18:33 for the Age 21 Record, and is 10th A-T World!
Berhane Dibaba's 2:18:46 is good for best 3rd Place mark, the Age 26 Record, and it makes her 12th A-T World!
That takes care of the podium!

In 4th came Vivian Cheruiyot, her 2:18:52 the best 4th Place mark, and gives her the Age 36 Record!
Zunela (sp?) Yimer's 2:19:28 is the best 5th Place mark, and makes her 14th A-T World!
Workenesh Edesa's 2:20:24 is the best 6th Place mark!
Purity Rionoripa's 2:20:39 takes the best 7th Place mark!
A Gebremeskel's 2:22:29 is good for the best 8th Place mark!
And Tadelech Bekele's 2:22:53 takes the best 9th Place spot!!
Whew!!

The Men's race wasn't exactly a snorefest!
Kinde Atinaw won it in 2:03:51, and makes him 15th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
K Ozbilen's 2:04:18 is Turkey's new National Record, and makes him 23rd A-T World!1

Then there's a 10k run there also--different date!
Josh Cheptegei ran alone (with pacers??) to a 26:38 Road World Record!!
He was a full 100 seconds ahead of second place!!

I'll return to the Roads later, but let's wrap up the Collegiate and HS Cross Country seasons!!
BYU took the Men's team title with 109 points, with Northern Arizona's 163 nipping Colorado's 164 by 1 point!
Perhaps indicative of strategy over speed, or just the talent level of 2019's NCAA Cross people, but NO marks came close to making my Top 24 A-T lists for this meet!!

2.   Carter Solomon           15:16.9

Taken OFF my list was a HS legend--Jordan Hasay!!

OK, a bit more, and we'll close out the 2019 OUTdoor season (except for my picks for Athlete of the Year for the World and US!!).

Is Fukuoka losing it's historic place in the pantheon of Marathons?
That the winning time (for Mahjoulo Dazzi) was just 2:07:10 doesn't say much for my including it in future reports!

A race in the United Arab Emirates fared better!
Reuben Kiprop--who began the race as the rabbit!!) took the W in 2:04:40!
(Is his career as pacer over??  LOL)
Vivian Kiplagat won the Women's race in 2:21:11.

In the 50k Walk in Takahata, Japan, Masatara Kawano Walked a Japan National Record--and World Leading!--time of 3:36:45!!

In the USATF Club XC Championships, Morgab Pearson took the Men's race in 29:59.
But in the Women's 6k, a VERY interesting 1-2 happened!
A one time HS stud named Aisling Cuffe took the race in 20:07.
Who did she beat?
The CURRENT High School star--Katelyn Tuohy--who ran 20:11.
One for the history books, if you ask me!!

Finally, in a Hawaii Road Mile, Ed Cheserek (3:53.3) and Elle Purrier (4:26.0) were the winners!1

Next--my World and US AOY's!!

Three Stories

A Story That Should Not Happen

Salwa Naser seemed so special.
Her 400's were 50 second masterpieces, each one faster than the last.
In just a brief time, she became a feared, and fearless runner.
Her finest--or so we thought--was her 48.14 win over Shaunae Miller-Uibo in Doha a year ago.
Until.....!
Until about 9 months later, when she was "provisionally" banned for 2 years because of three missed drug tests!
I've been searching for any "final" resolution of her case, but haven't found any!
It's been over 15 weeks, and nothing!
If she is indeed banned, or even if she isn't, it seems her 48.14 will not be accepted, and the Gold goes to SMU.
I became a fan of Naser's, and am saddened that such a talent would so stomp on her future for a reason such as this.
Moral?
If you have real talent, use it!
If your talent is limited, do NOT use drugs, or avoid being tested!
The truth will out, and in the case of Ms Naser, it sadly has.

Peter (Excuse me, SIR Peter!!) Snell died just 5 days before turning 81 last December!
What memories I have of this man.
A reported last 220 of 24.5 in a Coliseum Relays Mile against my then-fave American Miler, Dyrol Burleson, leaving that also great kicker far behind.
Narrowly losing to then-High Schooler Jim Ryun in the 1965 AAU in San Diego, where Ryun set a HSR that wouldn't be broken for 36 years!
Seeing his double Gold in Tokyo 1964.
Reading his fantastic memoir "No Bugles No drums", and loving every word.
Just after getting my first issue of Track and Field News in early 1962, reading of his first World Record, run on a 385 yard (!!) grass track in his native New Zealand.
Seeing his massively muscular  valves, thinking he doesn't LOOK like a middle distance runner!
Amazed by stories of 22 mile training runs in NZ--under the guidance of famed coach Arthur Lydiard--over hills and sand dunes--with mates Murray Halberg, Bill Baillie, and other NZ stars.
His being a member of the WR-breaking 4 X Mile Relay team.
His string of great INdoor races--and Records broken in them!
His awkward form which never revealed his secret--a finish better than anyone else on Earth in the first 5 years of the 1960's!
After a life of great contributions--to T&F, to medical research, tp the World--Peter Snell IS missed!
Rest in Peace, Sir Peter!

Many others have died in the past many months since my blog stopped.
I'd like to take a moment to list them here--
Tom O'Hara, a Miler
Blaine Lindgren, a High Hurdler
Paul Geis, former Oregon Distance runner
Harrison Dillard, a true legend
Janis Lusis, Javelin Thrower
Bobby Morrow, another legend of the sport
Ron Larrieu, Fran's older brother, whom I ran in the same 6 mile race with at Pierce College in LA in August 1964--He ran sub 28:00 (racing Billy Mills!!), while I ran 37:11
Dick Buerkle, a fast Miler with a bald scalp
Ben Jipcho, one of the early Kenyan greats
and Steve Smith, the first INdoor 18 foot Pole Vaulter
They are all remembered!

Mary Cain broke--no, DESTROYED!--eleven High School Records between July of 2012 and June of 2013--with TEN of those coming in the six month period of Ja nuary to June of 2013.
She was then just 16 and 17 years old--and considered the future of US Women's distance running--an inspiration to many even then!
(I'll never forget the picture of this confident yet child-woman standing right next to the great Tirunesh Dibaba--considered perhaps the greatest female distance runner of All Time--prior to their Two Mile race in Boston!

We know the rest of the story--prior to last November 15th--or do we?
She ran wonderfully most of 2014, after going Pro and joining the Nike Oregon Project, coached by Alberto Salazar.
But toward season's end, she didn't show at a couple of "scheduled" DL meets.
Why?
In 2015, she never really got going, her best times much slower than  her Senior year of HS in Bronxville NY!
What was wrong with her?
Let's Run people speculated on weight gain, pregnancy, drug use!
I felt it had a LOT to do with her association with Salazar.
This was based on his awful behavior toward cancer victim Gabe Grunewald at the 2014 INdoor USATF.
She'd been so fantastic BEFORE signing on with NOP and Salazar!
And it got much worse in 2016.
For all intents, it seemed her talent, her love of running, had vanished--or had been killed!
Then, nothing in 2017 and 2018.
We waited--and hoped--that SOME word would come from her, or her agent, or Salazar!
(I believe her agent wrote something about injuries, and her being back in training.)
In the fall of 2018 (?), she won a small 4 mile road race through Central Park, her time of 21:50 nothing special, but maybe a hopeful sign!

In September or October of 2019, the 4 year investigation of suspected Performance Enhancement Drug use by Salazar's star athletes came to a conclusion--
Alberto was banned for four years from coaching and the sport!
Good riddance to bad rubbish, IMO!

But that was NOT the end!

On November 15th, the entire world of Track and Field was shocked by what Mary Cain said in an emotionally wrenching 6:59 long video op-ed in the New York Times online!

She revealed that Salazar had been body shaming her--while still a teenager!!--for YEARS!
She told of a time at a meet on a rainy day--many athletes gathered under a tent on the infield--when Salazar yelled at her she needed to LOSE weight--that he wanted her at 114 pounds--that she needed to get thinner, thinner, THINNER!!
She grimly spoke of being given a drug--supposedly legal--that would help her lose weight while staying strong, able to withstand the monstrous workouts Salazar was INfamous for!
This drug, she said, caused her to lose her periods for three years!!
And weakened her body to such an extent that she broke FIVE bones--in 5 separate times!
Because she wanted to be great, to run fast--and please this old coach who she said she loved and respected--but wasn't performing up to her own, and to his standards--she began cutting herself!
Where?
Her legs!!
And then  the ultimate--she considered suicide!!

This EVIL demonic being had completely destroyed Mary's talent, her body, her mind, her passion and enthusiasm, her bubbly charming spirit--her SOUL!!

She has emerged from this in a wonderful way.
Many people--including former NOP whistleblower Kara Goucher--said she was so inspirational, so strong, so brave ("BraveLikeGabe"?!)--and rallied to her side.
Millions of people made that video viral!
Middle School and HS girls, in particular, said how they looked up to her, and loved her, for what she had done!

I'll report more on her 2020 season later, but suffice to say, she was coming back prior to the Covid lockdown!

We love you, Mary, and wish you only the best and happiest life from here on!

Excuse me, while I wipe tears from my eyes.

WR in Chi-town (& much more!)

My first post post-surgery reported on the WC's in Qatar last year!
This one covers a bunch of stuff--the WR in Chicago's Marathon, the Berlin and NYC Marathons, a bit from the Collegiate Cross Country season, a tiny bit of T&F marks, plus some corrections & additions to my previous post!
So happy to be back!

2:14:04.
Take that in a moment.
Or try this--reduce Paula Radcliffe's "unbeatable" WR of 2:15:25 by a mere 81 seconds--or a bit over 3 seconds per mile!
Or this--Brigid Kosgei ran FOUR 10k's in about 31:55--without stopping!!
So she had male pacers most of the way!
Well, so did the venerable Paula!!

She gets the WR, the Kenyan National Record, and the Age 25 Record!

Berlin's race changed things in several parts of my Record Book!
Ken Bekele SMASHED the Age 37 Record with his amazing 2:01:41!!
He's 2nd A-T World.
Berhanu Legasse also smoked, his 2:02:45 making him 3rd A-T World, and giving him the Age 25 Record!
Two American Women ran well.
Sara Hall is now 6th A-T US due to her 2:22:16.
New American citizen Sally Kipyego ran 2:25:10, making her 11th A-T US!

Amsterdam's Marathon saw Len Korir run 2:07:58 in 11th place, making him 5th A-T US!
Degitu Azimeraw took the Women's race in 2:19:26, making her 16th A-T World!
In Frankfurt, Valary Alyabei (sp ?) ran 2:19:10, making her 12th A-T World!

The difficult NYC Marathon course doesn't usually produce really speedy times, but does have good competitions among some big names!
Geoff Kamworor won the Men's division with his 2:08:13, beating Albert Korir's 2:08:38.
Joy Jepkosgei defeated the venerable Mary Keitany by almost a full minute, 2:22:38 to 2:23:32!

The Valencia (Spain) Half-Marathon had some fast races.
Yomif Kejelcha won the Men's race in 59:05.
Senbere Teferi won the Women's race in 65:32.
She gets Ethiopia's National Record, and is 11th A-T World!
She beat Sifan Hassan, whose 65:53 took 2nd!

A 15k in the Netherlands produced "WR's"--except that the WAF doesn't recognize WR's for this road distance!!
(And being honest, this distance doesn't really excite me either!!)
Nonetheless, these ARE impressive times!
Stephen Kissa ran 41:49, beating Edwin Kiptoo's 41:51.
In the Women's race, Letesenbet Gidey shattered the previous best by well over a MINUTE with her startling 44:20.

Let's see what these times mean, official or not!
Kissa's time is approximately three 13:56 5000's, back to back.
Add one more, and you get 20K in 55:45!
Add about 3:02 for the final seven tenths of a mile, getting a Half time of about 58:47.
Not bad, but not a WR there either!

But the Women's time translates to a trio of 5k's of about 14:47 each!!
You read that right--THREE 5000's--non-stop--of 14:47!!
Or 20000 meters in 59:08.
Or a Half in about 62:28!!!
That's close to TWO MINUTES faster than the actual World Record in the 13.1 mile event!!
Absolutely stunning!!

OK, let's take it down a notch, moving to Cross Country, Collegiate style!
As my "fans" know, I don't "do" XC very much!
Just ain't my thing.
(Although I did enjoy the few XC races I ran long ago and far away!)
So let's see who won some of the major Conferences in 2019!

Peter Seufer and Elly Henes took the ACC's.
The Big 10 had Oliver Hoare and Alicia Monson winning the individual crowns.
The Big 12's were won by Edwin Kurgat and Callie Logue!
(A bit of personal trivia--I love the name Callie, as she's one of the main characters in the TV show "The Fosters", which I've binge watched a few times!  LOL)

The Mountain West Women's race had the fastest time of the season, I believe--although times in XC aren't important!.
Weini Kelati took that race in 19:11.
PAC-12's winners were Joe Klecker (defeating Cooper Teare), and Fiona O'Keefe, whose 19:32 beat Ella Donaghu b y 2 seconds.
Finally, the SEC's winners were Vincent Kiprop and Katie Izzo.
Kiprop's 22:51 beat Gilbert Kigen's 22:55.
Izzo's 19:38 beat Taylor Werner's 19:42!
(Werner later reversed places with Izzo in another meet!)

Finally, in the "new" news department, Darlan Romani won the World Military Games Shot Put in China with a good 73-4.50.
Mariya Lasitskene took the Women's HJ there in 6-7!

Reading my previous post--and after a bit more research--I found some deletions and a few errors.
So here's the new info--
Dina Asher-Smith's double was 10.83 and 21.88, not 10.88!!
And T&FN's eTN lists both as British NR's!!

In that amazing Women's 1500, Winny Chebet's 3:58.20 is the best 7th Place mark!
I made a mistake with Jenny Simpson's place!
Her time of 3:58.42 is the best EIGHTH Place mark, not 9th!!
In 9th came R Arrafi's 3:59.93, which does NOT set a Place record!!
But in 10th was Ciara Mageaan (sp?), her time of 4:00.15 giving her the best 10th Place mark!

And in the Women's 4X400 Relay, the US's winning time was 3:18.92, NOT 3:16.92!

In my next post, I'll speak about some tragic subjects--
the death of the A-T Great Miler, Peter Snell
the shocking (yet, to me, NOT so shocking!!) revelations from Mary Cain
and the drug ban handed down to Salwa Naser!!

There may be other subjects I'll cover, as I intend to do a bit more research before beginning that post!
Meanwhile, enjoy this one, and the previous one!

Doha--One Year Removed

 Remember me?
Your once-blind blogger who wrote almost 600 posts before cataracts made me "retire".
Cataracts gone, so here we go again!

The idea is to cover EVERYTHING I missed since the Doha WC's began!
What I DID post was just an attempt to keep my blog alive!
So let's take a deeper look back at what was a really great meet, even comparing it to previous WC's!
However, because of the time lapse, my report will not be AS complete as others were, but will include all the significant Records and Marks I now CAN glean from my various sources!!
The reportage will follow the order of the material as I made notes of it on paper, NOT in chronological or "best" order!
My apologies!
BTW, all Records and places on lists are as of the date of the meet or event, NOT their current standing!
Forward, then!!

Christian Coleman's 9.76 makes him 3rd A-T US, tied with 1 other, and 7th A-T World, tied with 2 others.
On my Combined Events list for the 100-200, his 9.76 & 19.85 adds to 29.61, making him 6th A-T US, tied with 2 others!
Steven Gardiner's 43.48 broke his own Bahamas National Record.
It makes him 6th A-T World!
Anthony Zambrano's 44.15 is the new NR of Colombia!
Donovan Brazier finally got Johnny Gray's American Record with his 1:42.34 victory!
It's also the Meet Record!
Bryce Hoppel's 1:44.25 makes him 23rd A-T US!

Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce won the 100 in 10.71.
But Dina Asher-Smith had a great double, times of 10.88 and 21.88.

We now know Salwa Naser's "48.14" doesn't count, due to her drug ban!
Sad.
Shaunae Miller Uibo's 48.37 gets the Bahamas NR, and makes her 6th A-T World!
On the C-E list for the 100-200-400, her times of 11.18, 21.74, and 48.37 adds to 1:21.33, making her 4th A-T World!

In the Men's 10k, we saw Josh Cheptegei win in 26:48.86, followed by Yomif Kejelcha's 26:49.31, and Rhonex Kipruto's 26:50.32.
Mo Ahmed's 26:59.25 nailed the NR of Canada,
Lopez Lomong's 27:04.32 makes him 3rd A-T US!
H Dahesya's (sp?) 1:58.04 gets her Uganda's NR!

What a Women's 1500!!
Sifan Hassan's self-rabbited 3:51.93 did a bunch of stuff!
Got her the Meet, Netherlands National, and the Age 26 Records!!
On my C-E list for the 1500-3000, her 3:51.93 and 8:18.49 adds to 12:10.42, making her 3rd A-T World!
Faith Kipyegon's 3:54.22 gets her Kenya's NR, and the best 2nd Place mark!
Dudef Tsegay's 3:54.38 is the best 3rd Place mark!
Shelby Houlihan got the American Record and the best 4th Place mark with her 3:54.99!
Laura Muir gets the best 5th Place mark with her 3:55.76.
Gabby Stafford's sudden 3:56.12 is the best 6th Place mark, and the Canadian NR!
Jenny Simpson ended 9th in 3:58.32 (NINTH!!).
Nikki Holtz's 4:01.52 in a heat makes her 14th A-T US!

The Women's 5K went to Helen Obiri's 14:26.72.
She was followed by Margaret Kipkemboi's 14:27.49, and Konstanze Klosterhalfen's 14:28.93.
But in 9th came new Pro Karissa Schweizer's amazing 14:45.16 (after a 14:52+ heat!!).
Her previous best had been a pair around 15:02 just after graduation from Mizzou!!
This makes her 5th A-T US!!
Then comes Elle Purrier's 14:58.17, which makes her 16th A-T US!
In the Women's 10k, Hassan won it in 30:17.52.
Marielle Hall's 31:05+ makes her 6th A-T US!

T Gayle's 28-6.25 makes him 11th A-T World, and is the Jamaica NR!
No Records, but Sam Kendricks and Mondo Duplantis both cleared 19-7  in the PV, Sammy getting the win!
And the astounding Men's Shot Put!!
The first 3 ended within one-fourth inch of each other, and all hit the 75's!!
Joe Kovacs's 75-2 shot past (Heh.) the 75-1.75's of Ryan Crouser and Tom Walsh!
Kovacs got the Meet Record, the Age 30 Record, and makes him 3rd A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Crouser got the best 2nd Place mark, the Age 26 Record, and makes him 5th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Walsh gets the NZ National Record, the best 3rd Place mark, and makes him 5th A-T World, tied with 1 other!
Darlan Romani's great 73-11 netted him just the best 4th Place mark and 12th A-T World.
Kovacs and Crouser are now 2nd and 3rd A-T US, respectively!

Delilah Muhammed's WR and American Record of 52.16 beat Syd McLaughlin's 52.20!
Muhammed also got the Meet Record and Age 29 Record, while Syd got the Age 20 Record, and best 2nd Place mark!
Lots of C-E action for both!
DM's 50.60 and 52.16 adds to 1:42.76, making her 5th A-T World.
Her 13.33 and 52.16 adds to 1:05.49, making her 2nd A-T US!
SMc's 50.07 and 52.20 adds to 1:42.27, making her 2nd A-T World.

Lea Sprunger's 54.06 gets Switzerland's NR!

Mariya Lasitskene's 6-8.25 beat Yaroslava Mahuchikh's 6-8.25, but the latter gets the Age 18 Record!
Yulia (sp?) Levchenko and Vashti Cunningham both cleared 2 meters, or 6-6.75!
The Women's 3000Sc saw Beatrice Chepkoech win in 8:57.84.
Emma Coburn improved slightly to 9:02.35.
Gesa Krause's 9:03.33 gets her Germany's NR, while Winfried Yavi's 9:05.63 makes her 11th A-T World.
Nia Ali might have T&F's shortest name, but she's long on talent!
Her big PR to 12.34 is 9th A-T World, and 4th A-T US, tied with 1 other!
Keni Harrison's 12.46, and Danielle Williams's 12.47 followed!

In the Men's 4X100 Relay, the US's 37.10 gets the American Record!
Great Britain got their NR with their 37.36, making them 3rd A-T World.

And Brazil's 37.72 National Record makes them 8th A-T World!
The US's 2:56.64 took the 4X400 Relay over Jamaica's 2:57.30.

Almost done, so stay with me!

Wow!!

Kelsey Barber took the Javelin Throw with her 218-4.
DeAnna Price took the Hammer Throw with her 254-5!
Katerina Johnson-Thompson's 6981 score in the Heptathlon gets her GB's National Record, and 6th A-T World!
Nafi Thiam was way back with her 6677!

Jamaica's Female 4X100 squad won it in 41.44, but Switzerland's 42.18 got their NR!
The US won the 4X400 with their 3:16.92, while Poland's 3:21.89 got their NR, and places them 11th A-T World!

Other events just didn't warrant space in this truncated report!
My apologies!
